TruGreen Lawn Care - 5460

We were under contract with TruGreen for several years at our home, with very disappointing results especially in our back yard which is more shaded than the front. TruGreen came and treated the yard on a regular schedule, but the back yard never improved - even after several years of treatment.. TruGreen offered no changes or suggestions during that entire time. When we finally pushed them for improvements, we got no meaningful response - and even one no-show for an appointment to discuss the yard. They seem to have a very formulaic approach, and showed no interest in adapting their treaments to our situation when challenged. We have discontinued their service.

The yard just haven't improved at all. I paid extra for fire ant treatment. I have more fire ants than when I treated it myself. I have to constantly call about weeds. I used to do everything myself, but I am working out of town now so I have to rely on someone else to take care of my lawn. All of the lawns in my neighborhood that use Top Turf look great. I am switching to them.

My lawn is is horrible condition due excessive rain and my inability to keep up my do-it-yourself lawn treatment. The yard has so many issues that I was as overwhelmed as the yard. The heavy rain we have had this year (20 inches over the norm for this time of year) made my front lawn look like a weed patch instead of a yard. I called one highly rated company and when I told them I had a mix of zoyzia and centipede in the back lawn and fescue changing to zoyzia in the much larger front he didn't come look or give me a quote. TruGreen took the job without looking at it, saying they could make it work. They showed up and 36 hours after the first treatment some of the problem weeds and invasive grasses were showing signs of death even though it rained the evening after the application. We continue to have the wettest July in Greenville, SC history so weeds will continue be an issue until my zoyzia/centipede can get some sun and hot days. TruGreen can't control that! I was very happy with TruGreen's first treatment but this is a marathon, not a sprint. It will take at least 18-24 months to correct the multiple issues my yard has. I am not sure that any company will be able to solve my severe weed issues but at least TruGreen was willing to give it a try and it does look better after one treatment. I have five treatments left and I will let everyone know how it goes....Stay tuned. Update: 1/6/14 TruGreen has continued to treat my lawn and it looks much better than it did when they started. As I stated before, this is a marathon, not a sprint. They show up when they say they will and I appreciate that they have been upfront and honest in what they can and cannot do. They are not miracle workers but my yard is 50% better than it was back in July and I look forward to another update in about 9 months.

I have had nothing but trouble since I agreed to the service. They have charged me the wrong amount twice. I had to call to get it corrected. Now when I get my credit card statement I see they have charged me twice in the month of June. When I called to ask about this I was told the first time was to treat for cinch bugs and the second time was for weed control and fertilizer. It seems that these two applications cannot be done by the same truck consequently I have to pay twice. I will probably cancel before another application.

I paid in advance for 6 months. Had my house for sell and wanted to improve the look of the front yard. Everything was fine until I sold my home and then found out that they had sprayed my yard a month after I moved and I owed them $103. I apparently missed the bill saying that the service automatically renewed! Just be sure you read the fine print on the contract and know that service continues unless you call and cancel.

TruGreen comes on a regular basis and leaves notes of the service provided along with any recommendations for my lawn. I have had other services before but this is probably the best my lawn has ever looked. I'm very pleased with their service.

The fertilizer was suppose to kill the weeds and killed some of my grass. They are a very good company they just did not do the research on the type of grass I have. For me to fix the grass I am going to have to pull it all off and re-sod it. They used the premixed material from their truck. They would be here maybe an hour. They were very nice and seemed concerned about what happened. They were very apologetic.

They were engaged to provide chemical services to maintain my very small downtown lawn. From the beginning it was clear that their main interest was selling ancillary services at extra cost, but even in years that those services were engaged the lawn never looked markedly better than those of my neighbors who had no such treatments. For me, the last straw was this spring when--after a treatment--yellow spots appeared on my lawn. I took a photo of the lawn and sent it to their friendly 'phone representative, who promised to forward it to a technician; after a week, nothing had happened. I am on Angie's List right now seeking a new provider, and I urge anyone reading this to skip the steps of my years with Trugreen and go straight to someone else.

They provide great service they spray for weeds on your lawn. I they come out about 4 times a year to treat your lawn. They will call to tell you when your next appointment in. I love their service and my lawn looks great. The prices are competitive. If you let them know that you have a problem area they will make a special trip to treat the affected area.

Scotts Lawn Service came out when I wasn't there and looked at the yard and left an estimate on my door, in a sleeve. But I wanted to talk to him directly, so I called up and left messages, but they never returned my calls. So I wasn't happy with it. He called me a long time later. Apparently, they were too busy to bother returning my calls. I wanted him to explain to me in person exactly what they were going to do. I just would rather talk to someone personally.

The shrubs were acceptable after one year of service. The lawn was worse after one year than when they started. When confronted with the problem, they asked me what I wanted them to do. They are the professionals - they are supposed to tell me what needs to be done.

I will continue to use them in the future.

They're good...I would give them a B on the service. They seem to skip some things, but I have a really large yard. Quality is probably an A...they do a good job.

The only thing I dislike is that we never know when they are going to come. They just kind of show up and if we are there, great; if not, they may just leave something at the door. We never really have an opportunity to interact with them or ask any questions. With regard to price, I don’t really have a reference point.

In February of 2011, in response to direct mail advertising, we contacted this company because our lawn was full of weeds. They came to the house, surveyed the situation, and made a proposal for treatment. We selected their "custom care" program that included 7 treatments over the course of a year. The first treatment was on March 25, 2011. All treatments were completed as agreed. When spring arrived in 2012, approximately half of the lawn turned green with healthy looking grass. The other half remained dead. When we contacted the company to complain about the results, they responded that it was not their fault and said that there was nothing they could do to remedy the situation. Our lawn is an eyesore with huge patches of dirt where there used to be grass and we are faced with additional expenditures to make it look "normal".

Before we hired them our yard was overrun with weeds, especially dandylions. Since they started doing our yard the weeds are gone and the lawn looks great. They are a little more expensive than doing it yourself but well worth it!

They show up on time, and even call a couple days ahead. They do what they tell me they are going to do, and always do a great job.

It's $69 a visit, but I pay by the year, and get a big discount. They treat the lawn with chemicals and fertilizer. They even come in the winter. They're absolutely the best. They come, they go, don't bother me. My grass looks the best in the neighborhood and they are affordable. I give them high ratings, will continue to use them, and have used them for years.

I would recommend them to others because there are neighbors and other people who have used them too. I don't remember the price since it was a long time ago. I would use them again in the future.

We have been using their service for ten years or so. They do a pretty good job in the yard. The guys who come out for service are good. The only problem I am having right now is that when you call them sometimes you get the national number and you are talking to somebody else. They are very responsive because even when I call the national number they will get back with the people. We are on a scheduled with them and they come out when they are supposed to.

We had used them for a long time and our lawn still had tons of weeds; it didn't seem like they did what they were supposed to do and I will not use them again in the future.

They do a good job for reasonable rates. I will use them again in the future.

See above. It started very well and for three years it was great, then for some unknown reason it went downhill fast.

His price is reasonable. They always recommend what we should or shouldn't do. They have always done a great job; if I'm not pleased I call them and they come right out. I would use them in the future.

One problem is that the man came to my house and told me one price and then I was billed something different. They didn’t show up for the treatments so I called them up and they said they dropped the ball but they would make it right. They didn’t show up the next time either. My yard still looks the same as it did; I don’t notice any difference. Whoever aerated my lawn did a thorough job and covered the yard very well. The scheduling was horrible. I have never had anyone just not show up. A man came out, said it wouldn’t happen again, and offered me a couple of free things to make up for it, but they didn’t show up the second time. When I got the bill it was double what it was supposed to be because he said he was giving me a free treatment. It was just a big misunderstanding but I won’t use them again. I feel like they should have taken a soil sample to see what my lawn needs, but he said they knew what the lawns in the area needed. The aeration was good but I'm not happy with everything else that they did.
