Description of Work: I called the Pella Store in Greenville SC, with whom I have had dealing in the past, and ordered a large window to be delivered to my farm house in Orangeburg SC. They performed as expected.

Description of Work: custom sized wood windows - architect series were smeared and damaged between the 2 panes of glass on the inside. Important for customer to clean and view these windows before installation. Parent company - manufacturer- not willing to replace windows that could not be cleaned or pay for the painting which had been done before discovered. Local company cooperative but held customer hostage for replacement when the manufacturer would not reimburse the local dealer. Three years to get replacements in and no reimbursement for painting. $500 loss to customer.

Description of Work: Early last year I began the process to repace half of the windows in my vintage home with the architect series windows. I was especially interested in maintaining the look of my home while increasing energy efficiency. I chose to replace the five windows upstairs and five custom sized windows across the back dowstairs. First, when the downstairs custom windows arrived, they were not the correct pane size and number and it was very obvious that the look of the house would be changed. I did not allow them to be installed. There was another long wait but the windows were replaced with the correct pane size and number of panes. They were installed and I had them painted. Then, I attempted to clean all the windows as directed. There was no problem upstairs but the downstairs windows had numerous random smears that could not be removed. I called the dealer and they returned feeling they had techniques that would clean my windows. They came twice following company directions on cleaning. No luck! They agreed with me that I should expect a better result, took pictures to document the problem and assured me that Pella Corporation always stood behind their product. Sadly, after many months, I've learned that is not the case. The dealer says they have the replacement windows but are unwilling to pay the cost of painting the windows which has been estimated at just under 600 dollars. It is clear that the problem was created in the manjfacturing process not by the local company who sold the windows. They appear to have tried diligentlly but are not being reimbursed for the replacement windows nor the repainting. The company's warrenty does exclude the refinishing. That seems to me to be wrong thinking since I can clearly see inside the 2 panes the marks of suction cups left during the manufacturing process. Yes, I should have seen that the windows could be cleaned before I allowed them to be installed and I have learned a costly lesson.
