A very pleasant and nice man who was very kind to my dogs and tolerated their curiosity while he worked. He did a thorough job cleaning and inspecting, and discussed future needs/visits with me. He was neat and clean and left everything just as he found it. We were very satisfied to know all was well with our fireplace and to have such a nice and professional serviceman to call in the future.

Found The Merry Sweep on Angie's List. Contacted him for an inspection. He arrived on time and performed a thorough evaluation of the chimney, fireplace and ash dump. I thought the chimney needed cleaning but he told me it was fine and I needed nothing further done right now. He spent a fair amount of time explaining my system to me and charged his standard $75 service call fee. I asked him if he could install a chimney cap and he reviewed catalog information and pricing with me. I approved the work for an installed price of $525. No up front money was required. Within about a week, the cap arrived and he performed the installation. The work was done efficiently, the quality was excellent and the price was competitive.

I've had him for maybe 30 years. He does a very neat and nice job.

Arrived on time. Was courteous and professional. Explained what he was doing and why. Didn't try to sell services he did not believe were needed. Did the job carefully with no mess left behind.

The gentleman came in and I explained the problem. He went right to work removing the vines and inspecting the chimney inside and out. He gave me suggestions on how to clean the gas logs in the future ( not necessary now). He was pleasant and I would call him again, if needed.

Great. He came to inspect. Then scheduled a few days later to install. His paperwork is extremely clear and professional (computer generated). He did exactly what he said he would do and it cost exactly what he said it would. Absolutely no complaints.

The gentleman arrived on-time as agreed. He was thorough and answered all questions. Since the work was preventive maintenance, my comments are brief. However I was very please with their service.

This was by far one of my best experiences with a service professional. Mr. Bloom is awesome!

I bought my house in 2007 and had an inspection/cleaning done at that time. My previous chimney person left the company he was with and I decided to shop around for someone else on Angie's List. I left a message on his voicemail and he got back with me the next day. I told him what I had (house was built in 2001, prefab chimney, last cleaned in 2007, etc) and he quoted me $165 over the phone. He arrived promptly and went straight to work. He started on the roof. When he came in I asked him if he found anything bad up there. He said yes, but the good news is that it was minor and he could fix it. (One stop shopping - I loved it!). He found no issues with my fireplace/chimney except for the cooling vent that had slipped down. That was the repair. He laid several drop cloths down when inside, cleaned the flue, even cleaned the glass doors. When he was finishing up and writing up the invoice and I was paying him, he again said it was $165. I said "But you did that repair, don't I owe you for that?" He said it was minor and he was sticking to the price of $165. I had a few questions about my fireplace and he answered all of them. 4 days later I received a thank you letter and before and after pics of the repair. I really liked that because I was curious about the repair and now I had a visual of it and I wasn't about to go up on the roof. Blume is knowledgeable, experienced and honorable. You don't need to look any further. Blume is who you want.

Blume arrived right on time; got right to work inspecting our fireplace/chimney. Made repair to top of flue on outside with stainless steel mesh, then swept the chimney. He made us aware of repairs that we need to make within the next couple of years. He was very professional, honest and we felt he charged a fair price. We will use his service again and recommend him to our friends.

I bought this house with the chimney "as is" so I didn't really know what I had in a chimney. The house was built in the 1950s. I called Blume the Merry Sweep and was charmed by his answering machine message (another user on Angie's List obviously did not appreciate the humor of the message). I respect a chimney sweep who takes pride in his work and offers a fair and decent price. I did not enlist Blume's help back in August, to make the repairs, simply because I had other items on my list to prioritize. But I look forward to working with Blume in the future.

Called and asked them approx pricing for replacing a chimney chase. Provided a range of pricing that seemed fair. But said they would have to come out and inspect and measure. Cost charged was $95.00 . They said it would be applied to the repair cost. They provided a quote of over $1,000 to replace the chase cover, that was not in-line with the phone conversation with one of the owners prior to the inspection. Called after getting the quote to ask why the cost was not in the 300-$500 range they quoted for a non-stainless steel cover. After discussing the high quote they reduced the pricing . We chose not to use them just on the principal that they got us to pay them for quoting the job. I had the work quoted by three other reputable companies, non of those charged us.

It is over a year since he did the repairs (and I took his suggestion repairing the cap) and everything is fine. I am very happy with his work. (He has a very dry sense of humor, but he is delightful, resourceful and very professional.)

I was given a very detailed report and excellent recommendations. I appreciate the honesty and professionalism of the service provider. I will definitely use him when we make the recommended repairs.

I knew that I had this hole inside of my fireplace, just north of the firebox and south of the flue tiles. It had apparently been there since the fireplace was constructed. The area was fine on three sides and had this opening on the fourth. I had used the fireplace for years and knew nothing about this. Another chimney sweep called it to my attention over a year ago. I knew about the fissures in the chimney crown, I had caulked them a year ago. Since Blume had a report on Angie's list that sounded good, I called him and we talked. He made an appt. to come out and look at my problem. I did not want to burn the house down with a hobbie: watching fireplace fires. He arrived on time and on the date arranged. We talked about fireplaces. drawing, outside air and the hole in the chimney. He gave me the pros and cons. In addtion, he checked out the crown and said it needed to be coated, would not fall down tomorrow, but would need work at sometime. Blume gave me a written work order. I told him to do it and was going to pick a time and day. My wife asked him if he could do it now. Said he would. From then on he worked non stop. I did not see him stop for lunch or take a break, not that I would have minded a working man eating or taking a break. He finished about 5:30 pm. He had runners placed down over the carpet and throw tarps in front of the fireplace. If I could find 10 tradesmen like Blume, as honest and competent and hardworker as he is, I'd rest easier at night.

We had Blume do a proposal and quote to repair our chimney. The fireplace/chimney had not been used for about a decade when we bought the house, so we didn't really know how much work would be needed. Blume thoroughly examined the fireplace and chimney, and prepared a detailed quote. He and his assistant completed all the repairs in a timely manner, and were very pleasant and helpful. They were very careful to keep the soot and dirt off of our furniture and out of the house. They were professional and did a great job. We were extremely pleased with the results. Blume also answered all of our maintenance questions and gave us tips for ensuring optimum performance.
