BLUME, THE MERRY SWEEP

I had Mr. Blume come out to sweep my chimney on a wood stove that had been professionally installed a few years ago only for him to tell me the chimney support was not installed right and I needed to have it reworked and some other things done. He charge me a $125 service call and was going to get back to me with an estimate on what it would cost to do this. He never got back to me. I feel totally taken advantage of and ripped off!!!!!! I'm a widow on a fixed income which he knew.

Although very nice and responsive to our request for a quote, we chose to go with another company since his cost for the inspection was not specific, and we are working within a specific budget. We would consider for future services though.

Chimney inspection- sweep not needed. Gave good info on future upgrades of fireplace but no hard sell and actually advised us to wait until spring when prices would drop. No major issues. Took a while between contact and appointment, but was his busy season and not urgent on our part. Compared to other areas of the country, the fee for a sweep if needed (around 300) would be a bit high, but seems par for the course in this area.

It took a few days for him to call me back. Very straight forward but pleasant to deal with. Arrived right on time for his appointment. Got right to work. Explained exactly what he would be doing and provided detailed report upon completion. Price was a little lower than originally quoted. I'd use his services again and gladly recommend him to others.

After playing phone tag for a few weeks (he was always prompt in returning my calls and extremely friendly in his messages), we scheduled an appointment time. He was prompt and extremely informative. He was thorough with his inspection and provided recommendations through out his review. The communication is always clear and honest. We felt valued and understood. He never seemed rushed (although he has a very active business). We enjoyed working with this provider and would certainly use him in the future!

This is a follow up to an earlier review where Mr. Blume came out and reviewed the issues we were having with the chimney. Mr. Blume is a very down to earth business professional who gave us a full recap of the services he provided when he finished his work and took the time to answer our questions before requesting payment. Payment was for the amount agreed on for the repairs and the damper with the handle was included at cost. Our front top step was repaired at no cost without us requesting the repair. We are very pleased with his work and recommend him highly.

We were extremely pleased with Blume's service! He was courteous, very knowledgeable and meticulous about his work! This was the first time he cleaned our fireplace. We chose him because of all the great reviews he had on Angie's List! He covered the carpet from the front door leading up the fireplace with drop clothes to protect the carpet. The vacuum system he used to catch the soot/vacuum up the soot, was very efficient. There was no dust or soot flying around in our house while he was at work. This was a big plus! Our fireplace is a prefab unit, it is about 24 years old and propane is used for the gas logs. After he had cleaned the chimney and firebox, and while he was still here, being the picky person that I am, I actually stuck my head into the fireplace and looked up the chimney. The metal piping was as shiny as the day it was installed! Blume did a really great job of cleaning our gas logs too! He put the logs in a large plastic bucket and took them out side to clean them. After the gas logs were removed, he took great care in cleaning the area in the firebox where all the intricate gas piping was. He actually used a soft paint brush to sweep the soot from this area so as not to damage anything. He did a great job of placing the logs back into the fireplace and made sure the flames hit the logs just right for a realistic looking fire. We had on hand a good supply of our own, lava rock, vermiculite, etc. so it was not necessary for Blume to supply these. All in all he did a great job and we highly recommend him!

Mr. Blume was extremely personable and a great communicator whether by phone or e-mail. The charge for the initial visit and inspection was $95. He ordered the chimney caps without a deposit on the caps. Although my husband and I happened to be home when he installed the caps, he was flexible and indicated that we were not required to be at home while he installed the caps, and that he would have billed us for the caps. We feel that we were fairly charged for the caps (two caps for $270) and the work that Mr. Blume did. I believe he is an honest man, very knowledgeable, and an expert at what he does. I believe our chimney issues are now solved, but I would not hesitate to recommend Mr. Blume to my family and friends.

Great guy, very professional and told us everything about gas fireplaces. Answered our questions and gave suggestions based on the age (25 yrs) and condition of our chimney. Will use again for inspection and cleaning.

Mr. Blume, "The Merry Sweep" was a pleasure to do biz with. I recently purchased a home with fire place that had been converted. Being unfamilure with same and also having a flue not operating properly I sough Angies list for a recommedation. TMS was selected, Mr. Blue arrived and the rest is history. He did not only a very through job, but took the time to explain the nuances and operation of a gas-log system. His fee was very reasonable and fair. TMS will remain on my list of go-too's.

I contacted Mr. Blume to inspect our fireplace and chimney and discuss gas log options. He spent quite a while answering my questions and giving me advice. Our roof has very high peaks and he had to climb a VERY high ladder to inspect the chimney. He found the builder had shorted the vent pipe by about a foot and that the chimney cap was resting a foot lower than it should. Yikes! He is very thorough and the charge for all of this was $75. He provided a quote of $200 for the materials and labor to come back and remove the cap, install the pipe, and straighten and reinstall the cap. Considering the house could have burned down, I thought this was very reasonable. Even though it was so close to the Holidays, he came and fixed it when we were not home so we could enjoy the fireplace on Christmas. He provided before and after pictures with a complete report of his evaluation. He sets a wonderful example of professionalism I wish other trades people would follow. Seriously, if you need this kind of service don't bother with anyone else. Call him.

Mr Blume responded quickly to my phone message and made an appointment for an afternoon the next week. He called that day to let me know where he was and when he would arrive. He started by looking up the chimney and giving me some idea of what he could see. I had told him that when we purchased the house there were the remains of a wood and chemical log fire in the grate so no one had examined it at all and I had just cleaned out what I could see. He then climbed on the roof and examined the top of the chimney including taking pictures. After that he set up for the cleaning; I had put dust cloths over furniture and the TV but I probably didn't need to as there was no evidence of soot afterwards. Mr Blume laid out drop cloths from the front door to the fireplace with double cloths over the hearth and the area immediatly in front of the fireplace. Cleaning took about 30 minutes. Afterwards Mr Blume told me exactly what he had found along with recommendations. We are considering putting in gas logs and he discussed the various kinds of logs available and what we would need to do Overall a very good experience

Blume arrived on-time and was very thorough with his assessment of the chimney & fireplace. He was honest in his review and as a salesman, probably told me to much. He provided me with all options and gave me his professional opinion. I will definitely use him for services again in the future.

Made a minor repair (raised the termination of the chimney to allow better air flow) and did not charge me extra! He is certified, honest and I will definitely use him again. He even sent me before and after pictures of the repair he made in a follow up report I received later. GREAT.
