Description of Work: After the consultant gave us few choices, we decided to replaced old heating and air units with new ones for both upstairs and downstairs. It was a reasonable price to replace both system with new ones. Plus, Kaminer did not charge anything extra for the unforeseen jobs they had to do to fit the new units in the attic and crawl space. (they had to build new platforms for bigger new units). Very professional, and completed all the jobs in 2 days as they projected. The systems are working great.

Not sure why this review is popping up 2 years after the date of the purposed issue but I will be glad to explain. You cancelled your agreement midstream and owed this money. Yes you paid month to month but it is deferred payments. We draft the funds from your account but you are paying after the service. We had performed a service and each service takes 6 months to pay that is why each Agreement is one year long. Please read the Agreement you signed and it will address this. We only asked you to finish out the Agreement you signed. Description of Work: I met with the sales representative from Kaminer who examined my AC unit and was able to determine the problem. She was helpful in discovering that the Air Handler unit was still under a 10 yr warranty and that certain parts that needed to be replaced would be covered. The technician came out the next day and did the work in a professional manner and replaced the parts needed and left me a suggested list of future things that I needed to have the unit run efficiently. I was happy to have it running after a 10 day period with no heat or air conditioning. I signed up for their maintanence agreement and will definitely recommend them to anyone. I feel there professional service is why they have been in business for 55 years.

I puurchased a $30 per month maintenance contract hoping to make my life carefree with regard to my 9 year old HVAC system. Each time they came, they wanted me to spend a lot of money to improve my system. Finally, I purchased a new HVAC from someone else since I deemed them untrustworthy. Kaminer continued to bill for the maintenance contract with threats that I would have to pay $150 for cancelling it. Weird and desperate.

I have Kaminer's response to my complaint filed with BBB. My actual losses in this episode are only a few hundred dollars but the loss could have been more substantial. I am taking the time to report my experience in the hope I can help someone else avoid a bad outcome.
Description of Work: I requested a service call to check a mini split a/c that had stopped cooling. The tech found evidence of refrigerant on the air handler and announced the coil was cracked and would need replacing. The unit was under warranty so the tech said he would get info and give me a price on replacing just the coil or the entire air handler. Two days later he gave me a price of $1100 to replace the coil which included $492 labor plus warranty processing fees, transfer fees, EPA fees, etc. The part was covered by warranty and therefore should have cost nothing. Alternatively, he could get me the entire air handler for $2600 or replace the system with one from his company, Kaminer, which would be installed for $3600. Since I only paid $1200 for the system a few months earlier, his numbers seemed absurd. I went to work on my own and got the coil delivered to me for $45. Just to be sure, I also purchased the entire air handler for $275. While waiting on the parts, I had another company inspect the system. This tech tightened a connection where the refrigerant had been detected, added a measured charge, then performed a leak check, which Kaminer's tech never attempted, to confirm the system's integrity. The system has worked perfectly for two months! Having concluded Kaminer was either incompetent or unscrupulous, I filed a report with the local BBB to which Kaminer responded with irrational rage including a threat to call the EPA on me for my illegal actions(?). The response confirmed my suspicions about them. Unfortunately, since I requested nothing from Kaminer as settlement, the complaint was classified as closed so my comments are hidden from view. Based on my experience with this company, I would caution anyone considering them for service or consultation to be very familar with the problem and consider a second opinion if the charges start to add up.

At Kaminer we have nothing to hide. This client declined the recommended work. They have the right to do business with who they wish and purchase their own materials but we do not conduct business in this manner. We do not know for sure what the other company truely found and they could have told them anything. The large portion of the repair estimate was for labor ($492) to replace the coil. The alternative was to have his company put in a new system for $3600 which would fix everything with an extended warranty. I was able to get the coil myself for the cost of shipping ($45) plus I was able to purchase the entire air handler new for approx $275 including shipping just in case the repair was more complicated than I could imagine. In the meantime, I called All American who dispatched a tech complete with gages, scale for adding refrigerant and a leak detector which never appeared with Mr Pitillo. After checking the fittings for tightness, adding a couple pounds of refrigerant and checking for leaks, All American pronounced the system operational. I gladly paid them for the service call and my system is working fine more than a month later. I feel like the Kaminer rep was more interested in selling me a new system than in repairing the one I have. Perhaps he works on commission or is looking to build sales for his company or doesn't know about leak checking with an instrument. Luckily I decided to explore other options on my own before going any further with him. I expect nothing from Kaminer at this point. This was my first experience with them and naturally will be my last. My desire is that some elderly person on a fixed income is not taken advantage of. This would be compensation enough. I could turn them in for even saying they did this. Third, Kaminer does not install equipment purchased by the homeowner. This has always been our policy. Lastly, my employees pay has nothing to do with this issue. They are not paid commission they are paid hourly. Kaminer is a business and businesses must make money to survive. When I signed up for the service plan in July of 2009. I was given this option as a way to help me out so that I would not have to pay a $99 diagnostic fee when they came out to fix my AC. I was told that the plan was for 2 ac/heat inspections a year (one spring, one fall), and that we coudl cancell at any time without fees/penalties. that was a COMPLETE lie!!! I moved and called to cancell on 11/8/10. I was told by Normi, that I had to submitt my cancellation in writing, but that I did not owe anything and that the cancellation would take effect right away, so I emailed her on 11/9/10 at 8am. They did not process the cancellation until 11/10/10, and sent me an invoice for $40, for a service that was done on 11/10/10. when I called to challege the charge, it was nearlly impossible to get an answer. i called on 12/14 and left a message, but never got a call back. i called again on 12/16, and spoke with Michale, she said that she would have to pull my file, and that she would call right back... 12/17 - I had not heard from her by 4pm, so I called back and spoke to Drayton, who said that she had left early and that the person who I needed to talk to was busy, but that they would call me back...they never did! 12/20 - Michale finally finds my file and calls me back only to tell me that the $40 is to cover the remaining cost of the prevenative maintenance service that I had done in APRIL($120), since I was cancelling before the recouped the cost... Basically I was double charged for the inital service of the AC repair...sure I didn't have to pay the $99 diagnostic fee, but they decided to count it as a preventative maintenance visit as well as a repair visit and are now charging me $120 for it. This would not be a big deal had I been aware of it up front, but then again, I would have saved myself the money and just paid the $99. Hind-sight being 20/20...I will never again do business with them, and I recommend anyone considering them to get all promises and conditions in writing, so that you don't get screwed too. I know that $40 isn't much, but it's more principle...who know's how many people they have done this to...

Iam sorry that you were not pleased with our service. The way our agreements work on a monthly basis is you pay nothing up front and then you card or checking account is billed monthly after the first service. Therefore you are behind on the billing from the start. Your agreement was $30 a month and you had paid for all but 2 of the 12 month. This means you still owed a balance. I reported the company to the BBB but because they are not members, nothing could be done. Ended up calling another company after continued problems with the thermostat and the AC. Other company identified that Kaminer had coded the thermostat for gas instead of a heat pump also that the heat strips were set so that the unit continuously ran the heat strips when the temp inside dropped below the set rate causing the unit to go into recovery mode so it would not burn up the compressor. I have no complaints about the $3000 duct work other then I found out we were overcharged for that. MMMM- the complaint I filed about the units not working after numerous calls in 9/09 and 9/10 was deleted: issues: thermostat was set for a gas unit instead of a heat pump, heat strips were connected so that in the summer the unit didn't know whether to heat or cool...this was an easy fix had Mr. Todd Kaminer simply inspected his service tech work. Now after 3 yrs - we were taking advantage of SCEand G's free home inspection and found out the ductwork was installed improperly so today we are replacing 3 yr old ductwork that has water in it and is not sealed - for 3 yrs we have been heating and cooling under the house. No Kaminer does not warranty his work....and he has always had my number at home and work. 11/5/12 he is not truthful and his wife over reacts - manager offered to repair damage and then never called back - we went with AAHA - 100% good standing. 11/13/12 Just to let someone know - that most of my concerns with Kaminer calling me evil was removed and he sugar coated all his responses and Angie's List allowed his comments to prevail to make me look like a liar - there are other F's out here for them to see.
Description of Work: Push you into a service contract and then doesn't deliver - and then discontinues your service when they have to come out for other than the bi-annual service. The fees are exorbitant. Please check out what the price they pay for RR22 Freon too - they will say there is a shortage and prices are high. They pay roughly $60 - $100 for $30 lbs of Freon and will charge you roughly $67.00 per pound for Freon - 3lbsX37 = $121.00, and$100 plus fee to install it and an EPA fee. One -there is no shortage and the R22 is expected to be around for the next 10 yrs. 2) uses the fact that they have been in business for x amount of years as their "honesty" factor. Numerous trips from 2008 until 9/23/09 with AC intermittently working.

If there is ever an issue that could not be resolved I can always be contacted at 803-772-9140. The fact that we are not members of the BBB doesn't mean a customer cannot file a complaint. We offer a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee on our work. This client has not been fully truthful. This case was reported to the BBB and they denied the claim due to us doing everything we needed to do to resolve this issue. The client even wrote a nasty email to the BBB asking them how much I paid them to make it go away. Our company being a member at the time is irrelevant to the outcome. We are now members of the BBB and carry an A+ rating. This whole situation had gone away until recently when the customer again called our company to receive service for free. We did offer to come out and look at the situation for the client for free but we would not guarantee the repairs for free and they told us they already had someone else handling it. Again I feel like we went above and beyond to resolve this issue but the customer turned us away. We take pride in our reputation and would appreciate it if this client would also take the comments on City Search off since they are also false. Tech was very professional, considerate of my floors in that he always covered his shoes before coming in the house from being outside.
Description of Work: I heard the add for Kaminer's free second opinion service. My usual company is 2nd wind heating and air, and I love them, but they said our A/C had to be replaced, so before spending that much money I opted to get a second opinion. I spoke with Kaminer and they came out the next day. The tech found two leaks in the coil in the attic and said the unit should be replaced. I knew freon was leaking because 2nd wind does out bi-annual maintenance. They sent out a "home comfort specialist" the same day to quote me prices on a new unit.

I declined the repair because I had already determined the problem and knew what was involved and I originally just didn't want to mess with it. The parts required as verified by the technician, cost $40 wholesale and about $72 in general (a 40 uF capacitor and a 40 A contactor). I owned a business for 25 years and I believe in making a profit, but this was simply plain gouging. I told the tech that the parts were only $40 wholesale and that they were trying to rip me off, but he said that was the price. $500 added to $40 parts!!!
Description of Work: I called for air conditioner repair and was very happy they would come today. I was quoted $99.00 for the service call on the telephone at the time. The tech came around the time quoted, just a little late. The tech checked the condenser unit and about 8 to 10 minutes after arrival he said he needed to check pricing. He came back about 9 minutes later and said the price would be $576!!! I don't know if this included the labor. I declined the repair and he told me it would be $104 for the service call. This was a waste of money.

I am sorry for your unsatisfied call. All companies charge a service fee regardless of if you know the issue or not. This fee is to come out and check the issues. Prices may vary, but we are in the same range as any respectable company in the Midlands. As far as the parts prices I believe you are way off. A 40uf Capacitor price is $ 180 and a contactor price is $ 220 EQUALING $400. This price includes the installation of the part and a 3 year warranty on the parts.
