All things considered, they were pretty easy to schedule with and explained the work. I thought their price was a little high but it wasn't unreasonable compared to another estimate. They had one technician that I was a little uncomfortable with, just an inter-personal kind of strangeness with him. I'd probably use them again; I'd just request a different technician.
Description of Work: I just had some maintenance work done on my system.

They're very courteous, prompt and seem to be very knowledgeable. They tell you what they did and stuff like that. They're a good company. We used an Angie's List deal. I like the company. I don't have anything bad about them. They were here when they said they were here. They're very punctual. They come every three months.
Description of Work: We use Kaminer Heating & Air. We have a service contract with them.

I called them and their pricing to come and look at the problem was too high. I think they told me something like $90 to come out. I think that was too high just for them to see what it is. What stood out the most was their weekend hours. I think they charge too much just to come and look at something, the service call is too high.

We have done our market research and found that our cost of $99 for the visit is competitive in our area. As you mentioned we are proud of our weekend hours and we stand behind them. We have calls that come in between 12 midnight to 6 in the morning and we run them every time. I can tell you the biggest gripe we get from clients on the weekends or after hours is they cannot get someone to come or call them back. We feel that this type of service is well worth the amount we are asking. I hope you were able to find a company that fit more into the budget you were looking for and if for any reason you need us we will be here for you.

We had a HVAC system that stopped working the day we received the keys from the former owners. After talking with 3 other companies who did not have a solution to fix or even know how/where to put in a new system, Kaminer was a breath of fresh air when they came in as problem solvers. All employees that we dealt with were punctual, courteous, and conscientious (and they were kind to our children). They were the only company who cared that we were sweltering in the Columbia heat and offered to bring 2 window units to help us cool off during the week while we waited for service to begin (a provider from another company told us to put a fan next to a bucket of ice). They were also meticulous about leaving the areas clean they came in contact with.
Description of Work: Installed a dual HVAC system and ductwork. Tore out a wall to provide a large enough space for the unit. Provided guidance in purchasing the correct size and type of unit for the space. (In contrast, the first company told us we had cut holes in walls so they could see what the problem was, made us wait 2 weeks before they would make a decision, didn't call us and we had to call them, and another company told me where I could do research on the internet without offering suggestions etc.)

Excellent. Normi met with me initially in reference to information and possibly having work done. She was very professional and sold me on the business. After several quotes from different companies, I called Normi backed and advised her that we would go with Kaminer for our services. They were at my house the next morning working on everything. They worked throughout the day and finished up the following morning. Instantly, I new the unit worked much better tha my old unit. There was a follow up visit to assure that everything was ok and I was satisfied, in which I was. All the workers were very professional and were open to any questions I had. They explained everything that I needed to know when I asked a question. I highly recommend Kaminer and they will have my business as long as I live in this area!!

This particular unit wasn't properly cooling. Kaminer had installed it 5 years ago. A leaking evaporator coil was discovered. Parts are being ordered, and warranty covers the cost. Kaminer Heating and Cooling has been our provider for approximately 14 years. They are always responsive, and the quality of work is outstanding.
Description of Work: They checked our upstairs AC unit. It wasn't properly cooling.

AS always the service people were on time, they entered my home with protective shoe covers, they were as always respectful in language and demeanor. They went right to work. This particular service required two days and the service individuals were professional both days.
Description of Work: Cleaned air ducts, replaced insulation around air ducts, installed a Hepa air filter and and ultraviolet light to kill mold and mildew.

I had another company come out and they verified that a small amount of what Kaminer had said actually needed to be done. I felt as though Kaminer was dishonest. I had requested the information be given to me in writing, but I didn't get it and had to call to ask for it. However, the technician said that I declined that request of written documents in person.
Description of Work: I had purchased a one year contract, and for the first review they said everything was fine but on the second one, they said I needed all of the duct work in my entire house redone and they continued to add on to the list of things they said that was wrong.

Everything was fine and their service was adequate. We had used them for years and we weren't dissatisfied with the service. The pricing was a little high for a repair and we changed to another vendor.

They came back in the fall to do some work on a duct that was open, and with a gas line that was incorrect (not caught by the home inspector). With Kaminer, I've been happy with them. The technician is nice and friendly and explains things to me. When we do get scheduled, they come on time.

I have found that they don't push you to do things that don't need to be done and I really appreciate that. I have also found that their scheduling is easier to work with than other companies. Everything they have done has turned out fine!

Special attention was paid in helping me save money while at the same time getting things attended to that needed it. Also,, Rusty found a plumbing problem in my garage and brought it to my attention. I called the plumber that day and had it fixed. I was truly impressed! I feel that I received very good service by good, honest, professionals!

Company office called about 3 hours before our appointment and said that the technician may be able to arrive early due to finishing another job early. Tecnician called ~1 hour ahead of the appointment time to let us know that he was in route, and asked if it was OK to come early. He arrived ahead of schedule, completed his inspections in a timely manner. He wore booties in the house to ensure cleanliness. He spent several minutes pointing out some minor issues with the air handling unit, which he corrected - including changing out hepa filter. Also recommended installation of a separate surge protector for the unit. Overall very good experience as compared to the previous HVAC service company. On-time, informative and professional.
Description of Work: Normal maintenance check-up. Checked air handling unit in attic, and heat pump outside. Changed hepa filter

It was excellent! When they had to replace the unit, it was very hot. There were no problems with the workand they were very good. We've had Kaminer since 2004. They have done any service calls and maintenance that we've had. They've always been really good. We've had a problem a couple times with our heat pump and they were very quick to respond. We have a furnace upstairs and downstairs. It can be very costly having two furnaces and they do a great job at finding us the best price and informing us of what we need. We are very pleased with them.

They come twice a year, clean the unit, and change the filter. It is a pretty good deal. I have always been happy with their service. They are always on time and always call back quickly. They aren't the lowest priced company, but they back their work and come really quick.
Description of Work: I have an annual heating and a/c maintance plan with them. They previously installed the unit in 2006.

Nick (new service manager) was sent to the house on 10/17/12 and took pictures of the ductwork. He said there was really not much wrong except for one area of concern and he would repair that free. I asked if he could send me the pictures he took as another provider was coming the next day. He was strongly insistent that we should not need to replace the ductwork.He was given both mine and my husbands' email address and he certainly had my work and our home number to call us back. He asked that my husband call him to attempt to rectify the situation. My husband made 3 attempts to call his personal cell phone (and I admit he did not leave a message). But Nick and the Kaminer's had our numbers...so what was the problem with a return call? I informed Normie today that Nick could have called and I informed her what Todd had said about the time frame of work and that he stated and quot;that his health issues (he gave the specifics...but that is confidential) that may have been the reason he did not follow through....and that he now had a new crew and instead of saying etc. I used the term and quot;blah, blahand quot; and Normie took offense to that. I was berated for being insensitive. I apologized and explained that I was not inferring to Todd's health but the fact that we were dropped; the service contract was retracted etc. She said she was too upset to speak to me and I could call back at another time. I few minutes later Todd called me and berated me and even called me evil and someone who was trying to get something free. He threatened me with a lawyer for harassment. I am thankful we went with the other company to replace the ductwork and we also replaced the downstairs heat pump at the same time. The ductwork was shoddy, and there were areas falling down ( as noted on the other company's pictures) The return duct was replaced to a larger size ( note: Kaminer's grandfather was the contractor on this house , built in 1985 - yes, I know codes change...but we had nothing but problems with the Hand A, flooring in the bathroom) Even though Kaminer did not install the heat pump units they were hired under a service contract and although we continued to have problems within the warranty period he decided to drop us as a customer and stated because and quot;Iand quot; could not be pleased....he never inspected the work by his service manager, Andy. I stand by the fact that Kaminer does not stand by their guarantee and are overpriced. Please note that on CitySearch - the company put their opinion of themselves to bring his number up to 73%. I am not evil or insensitive I take offense to that - the rule of 7's apply and I intend to tell my story to 7+7+7 who will tell 7+7+7 and to note we have neighbors who also said that when they had issues that they too were dropped as customers (just found this out last night). Too bad they didn't use the rule of 7's...oh , another issue with not paying attention to the charges...we were charged $400 for a dumpster and advised by Normie that they supply the dumpster....I informed her it was a separate $400 charge for a dumpster - Todd said that hauling off the ductwork was not included in the $3000 plus charges and it is torn up and carted off....anyone wishing to contact me (I am in the phone book) I will be glad to show you my receipts so you can be informed. Needless to say...I have been dropped again...to tell the truth I am relieved to know that I now have a competent company to provide our heating and air needs and that I have Constitutional Rights and quot;I have Freedom of Speechand quot;...and Todd - please remove me from your emails and holiday greetings - you still send them to me....you will get no holiday cheer from me...but I will pray for you as that is all you need 11/7 well this reponse was better then calling me and quot;eviland quot; and threatening calling his lawyer -of course he was not a BBB member until after the initial incident. The facts are as I stated and quot;Nick showed me the pictures he took - he said he would repair to poorly installed ductwork it would be freeand quot; I asked that he send me the pictures so I could discuss it with my husband and he didn't. Todd is the owner - he should have come and expected the work...sure his employee is going to stick up for the company...the company did drop us as customers and we paid them a lot of money only to have problem after problem - since he didn't check the work he cannot dispute that my complaints aren't valid - themostats his staff replaced were not programmed correctly - improper installation of freon so it leaked back out in one day after they had inspected the work, thermostat flipped back and forth from heat to air because his staff programmed it for gas instead of heatpump, heat strip in unit not connected, charged for a dumpster that was never on site. I don't have to belittle the company the workmanship speaks for itself. I feel he owes me. As I said it is my right to tell as many people about the poor service and the rudeness of Todd Kaminer. You have a F rating on Angie's list and complaints on BBB as well as a poor rating on City search. and quot;Me thinks thoust protests too muchand quot;. I have no personal vendeta - it is what it is and the customer IS ALWAYS RIGHT - unless you can render a solution - you will continue to get poor feedback when someone needs a reference for Hand A - you are the owner and you pawned your duties off to your employees - they have to stick up for you but I DON'T and you never tried to satisfy my concerns and quot;you simply dropped the service contract and told me not to call again...that is how you decided to rectify the situation ..you never said please but called me evil and you never asked me to remove any comments - the truth is the truth.....you weren't even born in 1956 so don't take credit where the founder gave an honest days work for a honest days pay....rule of 7's still apllies.....as well as my Constitutional right of free speech - I never promised you anything and I have honored my word not to call your office again---
Description of Work: This is a new complaint since I never complained about the ductwork before so I am basing my complaint on the new service managers response to us I noticed there are 3 sites for this company and I am complaining to all 3...they do not warranty their work. If you continue to have problems they cancel and refund the service contract. We had problems with 2 existing units and continued to have problems with the house being cool. You can read the whole story on the other sites for them. Here is the latest. We asked SCe&G to provide a free inspection to see if we needed to add insulation to the attic. The good thing was that the answer was "no". The other good thing was both units (after paying an additional "friend who does industrial units") who corrected the new thermostat to the heat pump setting (Kaminer set it for gas) and also having the wiring to the downstairs unit corrected so that the unit wasn't running heat strips in the summer (electric bill 498.00 that month) the units were fine. However, the 3000.00+ we paid just for replacing the ductwork in 9/11 - sce&g said there is water in some of the ductwork and that there is poor sealing of the ductwork. Also the return was never sealed...which is why the filter has to be changed more often and that we were losing energy. Now, we don't make a habit of crawling under the house so we had no idea that we had been heating and cooling under the house...so I called Kaminer and said to Normie that I know we have had our issues but this is what SCE&G had to say. She was very pleasant and I asked if Andy was still their service manager and she advised that he was let go shortly after we became a customer. I asked if the ductwork was under warranty. She said she would have the service mgr. call. Now if you look at the previous pages Todd said just to call him as "they warranty their work" and this is on the radio and tv commercials as well as the web page. He had my number, he could have always called..he advised me to never call his office again and only refunded the 30.00 service contract fee. My husband was in Saudi at the time and I was trying to mange the house and everything myself. There is no access for wild animals or even domesticated animals to get under the house - so the issue is "it was poor and shoddy work". Now I have to tell you, I would have thought that when I was calling with the problems in 2009 Todd ( the owner) would have come out and inspect his employees' work instead of stating that "this customer could not be pleased" and dropping the agreement. But no, he did not and the new service mgr. said “we have new technicians now and they know what they are doing"...but sorry you are out of warranty (too bad, too sad). I have every receipt so I know how much we paid Kaminer based on their "good word" and as you can see "they simply don't warrant their work and their response is to drop you as a customer instead of remedying the problems in the first place. So you can see: I would not recommend Kaminer at all but I would be willing to be forgiving if they were even willing to inspect the ductwork with their "free estimate". I am not a vicious person and I do not like to be taken advantage of. You have my number , Mr. Kaminer and you can call me...we can see if we can patch things up...it is not going to make up for the thousands of dollars we "gave you" but maybe you can at least come repair the ductwork. And repair the shoddy work and I will promise to give you fair and maybe a good rating if the work is performed correctly. This is a new report for the record as I never complained about the ductwork before. Thank You

Honestly the only response I have to this is I hope that everyone can see from this post that this client has been nothing but problems. The BBB turned down her first claim as stated above and we do carry an A+ rating with them. To me the BBB is a very reputable organization since they do not allow people to post opinions but rather the facts. This is not exactly how this situation happened but we did send a tech to the home, we did find nothing wrong, we did take pictures and we did recommend them not replace the ductwork due to there not being any issues. We went above and beyond to satisfy this client and it shows that this was not going to happen. We did what we were asked to do and they were asked to remove this comment. They did not do their part. After numerous phone calls in which the client would be little me and our company I did call the client and ask her to please move on as we did since the issue was gone. She had someone replace her system and ductwork it was now a non issue. There is no reason to continue to try and belittle my company anymore. Please move on in a professional manner. Kaminer has been service the Midlands since 1956 and we will continue to do so but we will not always satisfy everyone and this is a good case and point.
