Great service. Decided to call from recommendation of friend. Kenny on first visit helped get the air conditioning back on track very quickly in hot summer. Improved circulation of air due to air filter in area of this older system that I was unaware of for years. I was only aware of main chamber filter. It was a Nasty, filthy filter that was blocking proper air flow. He explained things well...very courteous and thorough in checking out entire system. Spent more time checking things out than probably all previous hvac people we have used. Purchased maintenance contract and had check up for heating system in December. Inspected furnace as best as possible for cracks and cleaned coils to ac. Checked outside unit and cleaned too. No ac and plumbing job is ever dirt cheap but I believe 2nd wind is doing a proper job and treating me well. Would recommend and will continue to use. Thanks

Many years ago this merchant installed our heating unit under our house. We maintained our annual service contract with this company. Yearly they contact us twice a year to have our heating and ac units inspected. They come promptly at the time of our appointments. Since we had an extended warrantly on our heating unit, this merchant has always worked directly with the manufacturer when repairs or replacement parts have been necessary. Repairs and replacements have always been prompt.
Description of Work: For years we have had a service agreement with this company for our heating/ac units. They come semi-annually to check our two units.

The installers were prompt, courteous and professional and the unit was installed in one long day. They worked very hard to get the old unit (large) broken down, removed and cleaned up and the new unit installed in one day, but I imagine that was because of scheduling and cost. Given the new gas line and all, I would have been OK with two days. They did a great job with the look of the unit also, installing not only a pad, but also a border of garden ties and landscape rock. Overall, the unit and surrounding space look great. The only concern that I had with the installation was that there was some significant damage done to the fragile aluminum fins on the compressor during transport and/or installation. The supervisor was not really very pleased with this either when he inspected and saw it, and he personally spent a good deal of time that evening working to straighten out the bent and semi-crushed fins, but the "corrected" damage is still clearly visible. I don't think that this will have any impact at all on the functioning of the unit, and some damage to the fins is expected naturally over time, but I was a bit concerned about purchasing something brand new that now already has visible damage - like scratches and small dents on a brand new car. If the unit was more visible and aesthetics were important, I would have had greater concern. I did not request any further action and none was offered. I thought that it might have been nice of them to offer a free year of regular maintenance checks with the installation, particularly given the damage. I'm not sure that there was anything else that could be done, but if this type of thing would bother you, it was an issue. Also, I do plan to continue with my annual maintenance agreement. The unit is working great, but we have not received a bill yet, so we'll have to see if the gas/electric set-up has any impact on overall utility cost. Also, if there was something wrong with the installation, any problem likely wouldn't show up until the first bill.
Description of Work: We have been a Second Wind annual maintenance customer for more than 15 years and have always found them to be very professional. Every technician that I have worked with through the years has been courteous, knowledgeable and helpful. When it came time to replace an old all-electric heat pump unit, I obtained several quotes for replacement with a gas/electric unit. Second Wind's price was competitive and they did not push a lot of other unneeded or unwanted additional products. They offered their recommendation on the size of the unit, which we increased slightly (no pressure to do so). Because of our long positive history, and the trust that I had in the quality of the products, installation, advice and ongoing service and support, we decided to have Second Wind install the new unit. I value customer loyalty and have a problem with the "one-truck" companies, but that's just me. Moving from all-electric to gas/electric, I also wanted confidence that the installers knew what they were doing with installation of a new gas line and that they would stand by the service later. Overall, Second Wind has been an excellent provider and I would recommend them. They are a large company, with all of the related plusses and minuses that go with that. There have been a couple of glitches along the way, mostly administrative and minor, but they have always shown concern with fixing whatever went wrong quickly. And most importantly, I just trust that they know what they are doing.

PLEASE SEE ABOVE. THE GOOD THING IS I FOUND "AAA", WHO I WILL USE AGAIN AND WHO I PLAN TO SIGN A CONTRACT FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND HAVE SOME RE-LOCATION OF DUCT WORK DONE.
Description of Work: MY A/C UNIT STOPPED COOLING AROUND 9 PM ON THE EVENING OF JULY 26. AFTER DOING MY OWN TROUBLESHOOTING WITH NO RESULTS, I CALLED AT 11 PM TO EXPLAIN MY PROBLEM, AND REQUESTED A CALL FIRST THING FRIDAY MORNING, JULY 27. I WAS TOLD I WOULD GET A CALL BETWEEN 7:30 AND 8 AM ON FRIDAY MORNING.BY 8:30 AM I HAD NOT RECEIVED A CALL, SO I CALLED" 2ND WIND" AGAIN. I EXPLAINED TO THE LADY WHO ANSWERED WHAT I HAD DONE TO THAT POINT, AND WHAT I HAD BEEN TOLD. SHE PUT ME ON HOLD FOR 5 MINUTES, AND CAME BACK ON AND TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO RESPOND TO MY PROBLEM. I ASKED WHY WAS I NOT CALLED BACK AND TOLD THAT? SHE TOLD ME THAT THEY ASSUMED I WOULD HAVE FIGURED THAT OUT. I POLITELY THANKED HER AND ENDED THE CALL.I IMMEDIATELY CALLED "AAA HEATING AND AIR". THEY RESPONDED WITHIN AN HOUR AND HAD MY PROBLEM RESOLVED IN 30 MINUTES, AND THE CHARGE WAS EXTREMELY REASONABLE. THE TWO TECHNICIANS WERE PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS.I WILL NEVER CALL OR RECOMMEND 2ND WIND. I THINK THEY HAVE GOTTEN TOO BIG FOR THEIR BRITCHES!!!!!!

On the morning of Friday, July 27, we had over 20 calls waiting in our queue to be scheduled from our answering service. We began calling our membership customers first, to get them in the schedule as they have a priority service contract with our company. Keep in mind that is was a high of 103 on Thursday, July 26, and the high was set for 101 on Friday, July 27th. Each one of our customer service representatives were given 3 calls to set up each; not to mention incoming calls ringing continuously while doing so. The member called sometime between 815am-830am and said he phoned and had spoken to the answering service and he stated that he was told the office would call him between 7:30a-8am and that he still had not received a call. I apologized and told him that he was told that in error since there is no one to return calls until 8am. We have also been sure to contact and correct our answering service of their incorrect statement. The member stated that he could not get his usual company out so he thought he would give us a shot. By this time, our scheduler had advised us that we would not be able to take any new customers until Monday. I apologized and explained to the member that we would not be able to come out and he ended the call very displeased. I never put him on hold for any length of time, nor did I ever tell him that he should assume anything about getting a call back or any service times for that matter. We also do not recommend troubleshooting your HVAC equipment at all and calling a licensed and EPA certified professional. Also be wary of any comments that include testimonials of other companies! We would also recommend to any customer looking for immediate service that they purchase a maintenance or membership contract with a reputable and licensed professional. The contract also states that if anything goes wrong, they would show up within two hours and if my unit dies, they would give me a discount for a new one. They are absolutely excellent.
Description of Work: I use 2nd Wind Heating & Air Conditioning Inc for heating and air services. As per my contract, they come out three or four times a year, they clean my unit, they check all the parts, they change the filter and, they check the thermostat.

I used them for many years in my previous home, and I had very good experiences with them. They showed up when they were supposed to. I considered their service agreement reasonable. They came out periodically when I had issues.

The people that they send are really good, nice, easy to work with, explain what they do, and are professional. The company has been responsive when we have had troubles. They send someone out as fast as possible, generally within hours. They have done everything pretty well. The work is not cheap but I can depend on them. My heat pump went out in the middle of winter, it was about 15 degrees out, and the guy came out with all kinds of heaters and things. I like them and I wouldn't consider anyone else.
Description of Work: I have an annual contract with 2nd Wind Heating & Air Conditioning to come out every six months to check and clean the unit. They also do the normal maintenance that it needs at the time.

They came to do the spring cleanup thing. They come twice a year April and November. They clean it up and make sure everything was working right. They work with me on the schedule. They would remind me. They would also call to say it was time. They would also send out a card. They would call and tell me that it was time for service and they would check when it was a good time for me. Somebody would call and give me the date and time. They call 30 or 45 minutes before just to tell me that they were on the way. Sometimes the appointment was at 10:00am to 12:00pm and they would call at 9:15am to tell me they finished up there and they were on the way, so they would be here before 10:00am. We had the appointment scheduled and it was raining that morning. So they called me to tell me that due the weather they have to change it. The unit was outside and they do not want to have everything to be opened and getting wet. It was nice that they called ahead of time to know I was not left hanging, wondering where they were and I got things to do. They called and due to the weather, it was raining and reschedule for it tomorrow.

A friend recommended them to me. I have a contract where they come twice a year in the spring and winter to service my unit. They also come for service calls as needed. I pay around $120 a year. They are very good. Their pricing is average. I have always been very happy with the quality of their work. I will definitely continue to use them. They call when they are on their way. They tend to show up pretty close to when they say they will be here. They are professional and neat. They do their job and they clean up. It is really good service.

It was a big job. They finished in good time. They were also very neat and polite. The manager came and checked the after they were done and it looked good. The inspector also checked the work and verified everything was installed correctly.

They showed up on time and did a good job. I had a good experience with them. I have had them for the last 16 years and if I had major complaints then I would've found somebody else. One of the things that I like about them is that they come on weekends unlike lot of other companies. I would continue using them in the future.

So what did I do? I looked on eBay and found a distributor in Florida selling the same heat pump as these companies were recommending. I purchased it online for $1,325.00 shipped to my door. I looked on Craigslist and found a HVAC service tech looking for some side work and negotiated an installation fee of $800.00. The unit is scheduled for delivery today, the service tech and his helper will be here on Saturday morning to install the unit. My total cost is $2,125 versus estimates of $3,600 and $4,700 dollars, so I saved at least $1,575.00 What I've done is certainly not for everyone. Most people prefer to deal with a reputable company that stands behind their work and will be there when they call. I prefer to save money and take my chances. HVAC repair/installation is not rocket science and there's not a whole lot of things to screw up on a simple replacement type installation like mine. The way I see it I spent a couple of hours researching the project and making phone calls and saved $1,500+. That's $750 per hour for my time. For those that don't have the time or inclination to do what I've done - get out your checkbook and start writing! I would certainly recommend either of the companies I got the original quotes from - if money is not an issue.
Description of Work: Heat Pump went out and I called Second Wind for an estimate to replace the unit. When the salesman came out to do the estimate I was very impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. I was less impressed with the price of $4,700. I knew from doing my research on the internet that the split unit heat pump they were recommending cost them about $1,200, leaving them with $3,500 to cover installation. I also know that it's about a 4 hour job. $3,500 just seems like too much to make off of one job...which I think explains why there are so many HVAC contractors on Angie's List. I could not help but think that they were trying to take advantage of the situation ...Friday afternoon, my heat is out, and a really cold weather front coming through over the weekend. Anyway, I did not purchase from them. I ended up getting another estimate from All American Heating & Air. Their estimate was better at $3600, but still too high for me.

We get a discount on parts if something needs to be fixed instead of replaced. With price I would say they are right in line with everyone else.

My husband did not like the extrememly high estimate. He called Wilson Heating and Air and they gave us estimate of $6,000 less using same brand of equipment. They also told us parts were available but did not advise us repairing as unit is old. They put absolutely no pressure on us to accept their offer and did not expect a partial payment until work is begun.
Description of Work: Our heat pump quit. 2nd Wind came out and told us unit needed replacing, that there were no parts available any longer to fix it and that it could completely quit anytime. He put pressure for us to take care of it soon and asked for partial payment which was put on our credit card. When we called to cancel with them they told us there may be a restocking fee which we will not pay if they contact us again.

On Wednesday January the 4th, 2011 a 2nd Wind technician responded to this customer who called in with a no heat service call. Our tech checked the Amana system and found that the condenser fan motor bearings were worn and the motor was intermittently seizing up, and that the condenser fan blade was also out of balance and needed to be replaced along with the condenser fan motor and capacitor. Regarding the potential repairs, the motor and capacitor were available, however, the OEM fan blade was not available through the manufacturer Amana. With the system being approximately fourteen years of age (normal life expectancy being 12-14 years) the difficulty of obtaining original equipment parts and lack of energy efficiency, he advised the customer that it would be in their best interest to replace the system. After discussing this with the customer, the decision was made to replace the complete system. During the evaluation of the complete system it was also recommended that the air system (ductwork probably installed when the house was built in 1984) be installed and properly sized and mastic sealed to serve the high efficiency (14.5 seer rating) of the new equipment. The detailed quote consisted of the new equipment, new antimicrobial ductwork, new easy access filters grilles, digital thermostat, new electrical breakers in the main electrical distribution panel along with new electrical disconnects located at the equipment, new equipment mounting pad, new sheet metal flashing, and an extended warranty that covers all labor and parts for 10 years. This is what was presented to the customer and he accepted (signature on invoice and prepayment of $3400.00) and scheduled the installation for Monday January 9th, 2012. The installation crew was assigned, equipment was pulled, and the installation was scheduled. Our company meeting occurred on January 5th and all paperwork was turned in. January 6th, our bookkeeper deposited the down payment. The customer phoned our office on Friday January 6th and asked that we put the job on hold. Later that afternoon they called and cancelled the job stating they had found a cheaper price. We spoke with the customer and told them we would need to check on a possible restocking fee and get back with them. This issue was given to our lead service administrator and was on his desk for a few days due to a very high volume of replacement work prompted from the brief cold snap. On January 13th, our lead service administrator went to our HR manager due to management not being in the office (due to a conference) to receive authorization to refund the customer’s down payment. Once the approval was given, our administrator placed the authorization form on our bookkeeper's desk late Friday afternoon to be processed. A full refund of $3400.00 was issued to the customer and sent certified mail Friday, January 20th. We do apologize for any inconvenience the customer may have had with our company. However, we do believe in excellent customer service and do not feel that we should be judged on price alone. We also never completed work at this residence, we only diagnosed and advised the customer. Our company sets the standard in Columbia, SC for the very best in technical service and installation. As far as the price of the installation being $6,000 more than the other company; we do not believe what was quoted was the very same installation in regards to system efficiency, type of ductwork, materials, etc. Basically, not an apples to apples scenario. They always show up on time, do a great job, and are very polite. Very informative, very expert. I have used them for ten years. Only part that I haven't liked in ten years is minor. They have a set repair list, and if I don't need the complete repair, I still have to pay the full price. That has just happened twice, so I guess it averages out. I will continue to use them as they are expert and I trust them.

In reference to the parts being replaced, we never replace just one piece if there are additional parts that are involved such as a motor and capacitor. In this situation we would replace the blower motor and capacitor since they both work together. We would never just replace one or the other because we would not want to place our faith in a used part working with a new one. Should the old part fail (which they normally do in this situation) then this would cause more inconvenience for the customer. We appreciate your business and are looking forward to serving you soon!
