Smoak's Comfort Control

No story...it was what you want to happen.

My crew attempted to "snake" the drain from the roof with minimal result. They needed to access the drain by digging about two feet in front of the house. They then ran their "snake" through the line and, I'm not sure how, advised me I had a broken pipe leading to the city sewer system. Repair of this would take another couple of hours after any other underground utilities were identified. The job they did do, however, did solve the immediate problem. There was also an issue with the coupon they offered through Angie's list, but they agreed to honor it to my complete satisfaction.

Mr. Steve was very professional and did an exceptional job! He came on time and was reasonably priced.

Technician arrived right on time. He performed maintenance on all four units in my home, cleaning and checking each unit carefully as well as sealing any noticeable gaps in duct work. He thoroughly explained the work that he did and was very neat and tidy in his work. Time spent was over 4 hours total, a clear indication of the level of attention paid to the work. I was so satisfied that I signed up for an annual maintenance plan. I'd highly recommend Smoak's to anyone.

We have two 10-year old a/c units on an old (1940's) house at Folly beach. They are in some visible disrepair and probably require replacement. Our cooling bills are outrageous, but we had no way of knowing if they were operating at 80% or 50%. Steve was very professional, showed up when he said he would and took extra care to leave his work area as nice as he found it. The service was good, the report afterwards was extraordinary. He provided reasonable, real life suggestions without any hard sell of a maintenance agreement. Although looking at the price sheet, for the amount of work we would need to have done, it would have made sense to buy a maintenance agreement. Long story short, the units and ductwork require some serious work, and we wanted have the entire system quoted before deciding on what, if any, work to do to the existing systems. Steve treated our decision with the utmost respect and agreed that was how he would do it - there was no hard sell of "you must get thsi work done today or these prices are no good!" Based on this experience, we would very highly recommend Smoak

The plumbing work was quick and effective. The HVAC work was complicated and took nearly the whole day because parts were needed that were not on the truck.

Al is very level-headed and nice. He came out to look at my plumbing to see what was wrong. After he reviewed the estimate with me, I showed Al an estimate from another company I had out. He told me what actually needs to be done and explained why. It was a much smaller repair. I appreciate his honesty. He did a good job.

I use them over the weekend for emergency repair for my hot water heater, I found them professional, and I would use them again.

I live out of state from where I needed the work done. Janet at Smoak's took charge of working with the tenant and coordinating the repairs. Al called to let me know what was going on and when I asked that he find a less expensive approach, he did it! I was extremely impressed with their professionalism and great customer service. They will definitely stay on my call list.

This company is wonderful, from the folks on the phone to the technicians who respond, everyone is professional, pleasant and responsive. They come right out, tell you what it should cost, fix your problem, and then charge what they estimated or less.I will never hesitate to call them.

This was handled very professionally from the appointment setting to the inspection itself. everyone was great. Steve, who did the inspection, was very professional and did a very thorough job.

Initially I called Smoak's to come out and repair my air conditioning that wasn't performing well. The technician was on time and gave me an estimate to repair the leaking coolant but also informed me that my system was very old and that the repair could be a short term fix. He suggested that his company send out someone to evaluate my house and give me an estimate on a new system. The techncian had his office call me to set up the appointment. Rob Mitchell from Smoak's came out and spent two hours inspecting my house, measuring square footage, looking at the equipment and duct work, and doing load calculations. He was very thorough and asked questions of me and spent time explaing what he was doing. At the end of his review he sat me down and explained all his findings. He sent me his quote that afternoon for my review. I did get two other estimates; one was lower and another was much lower. Neither of these other companies spent nearly as much time inspecting my system or doing load calculations or did a good job explaning what they wanted to do and why. Given the economy, I did feel the need to go back to Smoak's and negotiate the price which they were happy to do. After a little haggling Smoak's price was the same as the mid-level price I recieved. I decided to go with Smoak's because I was comfortable that they knew what they were doing and that they weren't just selling me equipment to make a buck. The fact that Smoak's has been around for 30 years didn't hurt either. Installation was planned around my schedule and the installers were on time, courteous, and professional. The Install took all day with a new air handler, compressor, return and supply, intake and thermostat being installed. The two man crew respected my house and cleaned up after themselves and made sure nothing was left behind that my kids or pet could get into. Finally, a week or so after the install Rob Mitchell came back out to my house to make sure we were happy with the system and to check the work of his crew. Everything went well and Smoak's even handled the SCE&G rebate forms for me. Overall, I am extremely pleased with Smoak's for start to finish and I would recommend them to anyone.

Adam Rodriguez did the work for me. He took pictures of my ducts and pointed out blatant shoddy, incompetent installation work. He made several repairs that were small since his recommendation was to have the entire system re-done. Although I didn't want to hear the bad news, it was critical for me to understand the extent of the problems. He suggested first that I go to the company who installed the system, who I also had a maintenance contract with, to try to get them to re-install the ductwork properly. Adam does outstanding work and is professional in every way. Glenn and Jay, who are top-dog managers at Smoak, also came to my home twice to discuss the extent of my problem with me and educate me about how duct work should look and tell me the materials that should be used. ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING SERVICE, WAY ABOVE THE CALL OF DUTY. Once I finish addressing my issue with the original installer--which may require legal action--I hope the problems will be solved. If they aren't, Smoak will install my new ductwork. I asked for a quote and it was also reasonable and includes premium products. SMOAK, YOU ARE ALL THE BEST!

The company was very professional from the person who scheduled the service on the phone to the plumber who came to do the work to the follow up email. The plumber did the work quickly and he checked with me on each option and cost before he completed the work. He was very polite and helpful.

Smoak's was great in every respect! My questions were quickly answered/addressed. The right systems to meet our needs/desires (not the most expensive) were quoted. The workers arrived promptly, got the work done, and did a great cleanup job before they left. Although it's never fun to have AC/water heater issues (especially at the same time), Smoak's helped take the sting out of the process. We will definitely use Smoak's again!

Our condo a/c stopped cooling and we needed someone to check it. We are not living there at this time of year and know no one to rely on except for Angie's List. Picking Smoak's, due to proximity, I called this morning at 0800a. The annoying phone answering machine took me through the entire system SIX times. I tried several times and finally just called B & D.The nice human answering the phone at B & D arranged an appointment fitting my daughter's schedule and I went back to my coffee. Smoak's may be great, but how will I ever know?

The man who came out, Rob Mitchell, had been to technical school and he was very professional and talented. Everything he did, he told us about and got our approval. They run their business in an old fashioned way and that tickled me, they are not very into computers. We could not be happier with the service. The quality of service was wonderful.
