Our entire experience with Commonwealth Contracting was excellent. Mr. Eippert was very professional, dependable and competent. He is honest and detail oriented. Mr. Eippert is very knowledgable about his profession and hard-working. He was willing to address any issue we presented, no matter how big or small. He also was able to complete the projects promptly which allowed us to close the sale of our home without delay. We plan to hire Commonwealth Contracting again.
Description of Work: Commonwealth Contracting completed repairs necessary to sell our home. Mr. Eippert and his team installed window flashing, repaired rotten wood on the exterior of our home, altered siding to meet current standards and inspected/repaired structural concerns in the crawlspace.

My biggest concern was the concrete overpowering the yard and the house - I wanted the new driveway and parking pad to fit in with the style of the house - I wanted rounded corners and fluid lines - no 90 degree corners - I wanted the driveway to look organic to the property. Michael worked with me in transforming my vision into a reality - He had great input into the design, and was patient as I contemplated different scenarios and options. He visited my house twice before the work began to help outline the footprint of the new parking pad and to make sure I was comfortable with the plans. He was responsive in providing a quote, and he started the work when promised (within a month of providing the quote). He and his crew were onsite every day as promised, and they did a fantastic job at not only framing and pouring the concrete, but also grading the driveway, carport, and sidewalks so that water will run off into the yard and drainage ditch. He addressed all questions I had, and kept me well informed of the progress being made (did I mention I was out of town for a work trip while this project was being done?! That takes a lot of trust!). I highly recommend Michael and Commonwealth Contracting - he knows what he is doing, and he actually listens to what you want instead of going in his own direction. He is honest, trustworthy, and provides a fabulous finished product. I will definitely use him again in future projects I have planned for my house where I need a professional. This was a pretty expansive concrete job, and I couldn't be happier with the results.
Description of Work: I own a house built in the 1950's with a large oak tree in the front yard. I have a single car carport, and the existing driveway (which was just two paved tire tracks - not a full driveway) was brokem, cracked, uneven, and it had low spots which collected water when it rained. In addition, I had no sidewalk leading from the driveway to the front door, and I had low spots in the back sidewalk leading from the carport to the back door. I contacted Michael Eippert to give me an estimate on replacing all the concrete at my home in addition to adding a parking pad (I need space for extra cars to park without blocking the carport).

They did all the tearing out and removal of the old tub/toilet/and vanity sinks, etc and flooring on the first day. After that one day, the noise from the construction and the dust was kept to an absolute minimum. They were very careful in putting down protection over our hardwood floors, so they didn't trample in dirt, dust or leave skuff marks on the polished floors. After the job was completed, there was a tiny amount of water dripping out from under the glass door, and Mike came out himself to caulk and correct that right away. We couldn't be more pleased with the finished product - very beautiful and professionally done - we are getting lots of positive comments from neighbors and relatives we show. We love our new bathroom, and the crew could not have been more pleasant to work with during the project. Kudos to Mike and his crew!!! A job very well done!!
Description of Work: We had Mike and his crew remodel our entire Master Bath. We removed a garden tub, moved the toilet over where the tub was - and added a knee wall. The old shower and toilet area was replaced with a new tile shower with a glass front across the entire front. They pulled out the old vanity and sinks, and installed a new one piece marble vanity top with new sinks, and created a custom storage cabinet to match the cabinets below the vanity. Finally a new tile floor was installed - AFTEr they replaced a large section of underlayment that had been damaged due to a shower leak.

The contractor was very easy to communicate with from start to finish. The contract was clearly written and easy to negotiate. He was very responsive via email and text, which is very important to me. We did have problems which were mainly weather related because it was very wet and cold during much of the work, which we started in January. In hindsight, it would have been better to wait until the first of March to start these projects. However, it was unusually cold and wet for Charleston SC. As with any other construction project we have done, there were a few problems. Mainly the problem was getting the painting complete on the front porch renovation. Apparently the wood was wet. However, the contractor was willing to take the wood out and start over but I opted to let it dry out and have him come back and repaint. This apprach took longer but it worked and he also corrected a couple of other painting errors. The contractor gave us a credit for a future project because of this trouble with the painting.
Description of Work: There were really 3 separate projects: 1.replacing masory/brick base for a landing to 2nd floor (oustside). This involved removing and replacing a wrought iron railing which was very delicate. 2. resurfacing and building up a portion of the driveway (it had a very deep "dip" so the car scraped the concrete when going into the garage). This also required putting in drainage culvert under the driveway and two small walls on either side of the driveway with brick caps and trim. 3.Closing in a screened porch so it has glass and screen roll out windows, plus painting the walls and ceiling of the porch. This involved arched windows and replacing a door to the porch.
Overall it went great. Mike Eipert took our initial plans and made suggestions that improved the remodel and saved us money. He suggested a way of raising the ceiling that was an aesthetic improvement and, when our plan to renovate the existing cabinetry was not working, he built new cabinets that we really like and was able to incorporate some of the wood from the old cabinets that had sentimental value. Mike, his employees, and the subcontractors he used were professional and easy to work with. He established good relations with the representative who provided our lighting and plumbing fixtures resulting in an end product we really like. Mike worked with us on changes we requested after the project was started and he communicated with us throughout the project.
Description of Work: We did a remodel of our 50-year-old one story house including new roof, new heating and air, and an add-on sun room. We removed a wall leading to the addition and converted what was formerly a den, guest bedroom and bath into a master bedroom with a walk-in closet. The two existing bathrooms were remodeled and a half bath was added. A deck was added off the new sun room. The wall separating the kitchen from the new den/sun room area was removed to open the house from front to rear. The kitchen was remodeled with new appliances, fixtures, and cabinets. All the baths were given new lighting and fixtures.

The experience with Commonwealth Contracting was excellent. Mike and his crew did an excellent job to limit the inconvenience of having both of our bathrooms out of commission. He constantly checked in to make sure everything was going well and to make sure that work was up to our satisfaction. When we did have questions or problems he was quick to answer our questions and fix to perfection the few problems that did arrive. Mke and his crew showed up on Monday morning at the exact time that he said he would be there and were complete on time. If I have anymore major renovations that need to be complied with I will definitely have Commonwealth Contracting at the top of my short list of possible contractors.
Description of Work: Commonwealth Contracting remodelled both our master bathroom and spare bathroom. In the master bath we had the textured walls and ceilings smoothed, new vanity, new toilet, new tile, and baseboards installed. In the spare bathroom we had textured walls and ceiling smoothed, new bathtub, toiled, and vanity installed, shower wall and floor tiled, and also new baseboards and faucets installed. .

I had a very good experience with Commonwealth Contracting. Michael Eippert, the owner, came to my house and discussed kitchen renovation options with me. He gave me a very fair bid and I had confidence in his ability to do the structural work that was necessary. He was very accommodating and flexible throughout the bid process. We have decided to temporarily hold off on the renovation, but I will use his company when we decide to do the kitchen renovation.

We would probably go forward with them. Their quote was very appropriate and very reasonable. We also checked references from 3 or 4 people and they all gave glowing reviews on, so we think that we are going to move forward with them. Mike is absolutely great and if we leave an e-mail, he will e-mail us back within a few hours. If we call he will call us back within an hour or so, he is very attentive. We would tell other members looking for a contractor that he is so good at getting back to us and does his best to make everything right. He seems like he keeps a really clean job site and does everything he can to protect the property he is working at and the thing around the area. He is backed up, so we would probably start in January.

Mike was not the lowest estimate we received, but his professionalism made us pick him over the others. He always responded to questions and returned calls quickly. His crew did a great job, always open to our concerns. Any minor changes we made were quickly incorporated into the project at a reasonable cost. The work was completed on time as stated in our agreement. We would highly recommend Commonwealth, and intend to use Mike again in the very near future.
Description of Work: Commonwealth Contracting did a partial remodel of our master bathroom. Work included demolition of a wall, partial ceiling, tile floor, removal of existing shower enclosure and garden tub. New construction consisted of framework for whirlpool tub and shower, relocate plumbing, new electrical, sheetrock and tiling shower and tub surround, installation of tub and all fixtures.

Called to get an estimate and he was out at my house the next day. Michael is very friendly and I felt comfortable with him being in my home (I'm a woman and sometimes feel uncomfortable being alone with an unknown man in my home). He asked what I would like done to my mother-in-law suite and let me come up with the ideas, not making me feel like I was incompetent. About two weeks later, he scheduled for his electrician to come to my home and look at the electrical outlets that needed to be modified and/or installed. It wasn't until another week, after the electrician, that I received a proposal from him. He was well priced (mid-bid of the 3 I received), but waiting 3 weeks for a bid made my project feel less important. In his defense, though, he was apologetic.
Description of Work: Estimate on an approximately. 500 sq ft. detached, mother-in-law suite renovation (kitchenette; laying our purchased laminate flooring throughout the home).

Mr. Eippert always kept in contact with me daily communicating what work was to be done that day, who would be at the house, the permit process, materials information, and anything else that came up. He had excellent communication skills and prompt service if I had questions. His crew were always polite and mindful of our space as we lived in our house during the construction. The work space was always cleaned at the end of the day and all materials were disposed of at the end of the job. Mr. Eippert was also excellent at attending to any items damaged during the construction process and promptly repairing it at not cost to me. His costs were very reasonable compared to other quotes we received and in the end we received excellent work and service. We would recommend him highly.
Description of Work: Mr. Eippert and his crew designed and remodeled our front room over the garage into a working studio/office space. A staircase was added to join this new space to the main house. A concrete foot was installed at the base of these stairs as well as two load-bearing beams. The hot water heater was relocated in the garage, electrical wired into the new space, can lights in the ceiling, ceiling fan, window, connection to our HVAC system, insulation, drywall, new flooring, and trim. We decided to paint the space to lower our costs (which Mr. Eippert was flexible with)

The contractor responded to my initial voicemail message within one day's time. We met the following day on site, discussed and scoped the job, our needs and wants, and scheduling. The contractor sent a detailed proposal with a price breakdown by email the following day, which we accepted. We advised him that we were agreeable to starting the job sooner than planned if his schedule permitted. This proved to be the case, and work was started about a week early. The job was completed in four working days, by two workers. The contractor/owner visited the jobsite at least three times, and met with us one time at a builder's supply store to select and pick up materials. His workers were polite, agreeable, and willing to discuss progress and minor decision details on the job. (We mostly left them alone to work.) They laid heavy paper in the approaching hallways at the start, to protect flooring and carpet. Disruption and noise were absolutely minimal considering the nature of the work. The overall job cost was reduced somewhat by our selection of less costly materials based on "allowances" for tile, cabinets, countertop and sink agreed to in the contract, and duly noted and adjusted by the contractor. This was the first contract work on our home that we have had performed in over twenty years. We found the experience to be satisfactory, and believe that we got good service for our money. The contractor/owner gave a good explanation of the work and materials required to do the job, and proposed a reasonable price. We would not hesitate to contract for his services again. We have asked him to provide estimates for more jobs planned for the future (roofing, floor insulation, and underhouse vapor barrier.)
Description of Work: The contractor removed water damaged bathroom subflooring and three floor joists. He also removed the existing built in sink cabinets, counter, and sink in the way of flooring repairs. He installed three replacement joists and necessary additional framing and nailers to receive the new floor. He installed 3/4 inch tongue and groove sheet subflooring and tile backerboard set in a layer of thinset and fastened, with a three foot high backerboard replacement for drywall in the toilet alcove. He set porcelain tile of our choosing over the entire floor, and on the alcove walls. He installed new floor cabinets, countertop, sink and faucet, all selected by us. He remounted the toilet and large mirror which we had removed. He grouted the new tile, installed some new baseboard, caulked as needed, and performed a good cleanup inside and in his outside work area. He provided a trailer and hauled away all job-related trash materials. We performed painting ourselves, by previous agreement.

Before the project began, we interviewed 3 contractors. We chose Mike because of 2 main reasons. First, his quote was itemized and detailed down to the penny, so we could see exactly how much money was being spent in the different areas. He was flexible with us completing some of the work like the tiling, flooring and painting ( we like diy projects ). The second reason we chose Mike was because of his process in preparing his quote. Before his quote was completed, Mike brought 3 subcontractors out to the house to make sure the projected costs would be as close to actual costs as possible. In doing this, he kept the "surprises" to a minimum ( in fact, I can't think of any unforeseen expenses that occurred in our renovation.) Keep in mind that we had not signed a contract yet or paid him any money all the time he was doing his homework, so he was invested in the project since day 1. Once we compared Mike to the other contractors, it was obvious that Mike was the man for the job. The project was overall a great success. There were a few mishaps which Mike handled with professionalism and dedication. In particular, the floor height of the new addition was miscalculated in the drawings and had to be replaced after it was installed, which was a fairly big delay. However, Mike assured us that he would not leave the project until we were satisfied with the results. He kept his word and took responsibility of making the corrections. In the end, Mike delivered a great product. Mike and his crew showed up when expected, the subs were fantastic, and Mike was in constant communication with us. Even days that it rained and no work was done, Mike called to check in with us. On a side note, Mike was very aware of our three small children and the various safety issues that needed to be accounted for. His crew cleaned up every day so our children wouldn't be exposed to dangerous equipment and construction debris. Our children grew quite attached to Mike and his crew, we joked that he was a very expensive play mate for our boys!
Description of Work: Commowealth Contractors added a 300 square foot addition onto our existing home. The addition was designed to be a bedroom, bathroom and walk in closet. Mike and his crew handled everything from getting permits, drawings, subs and everything in between. We had to provide a plat, which Mike recommended a great surveyor.

The project went well overall, and I am very pleased with the results. Mike (the contractor) is very easy to work with and his level of professionalism is unparalleled- (after our initial consultation I chose to work with him despite a potentially lower estimate from another less impressive consultation). He listened to my ideas and always went the extra mile to "make things work". The crew was very mindful of my schedule and my property, and always made sure that the work areas were clean at the end of the day. I have used another company for a den renovation previously, and this was not at all the case (wish I had known about Mike then!) I would absolutely use this company again, and would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Updated the kitchen and two bathrooms in a 1960's house. Kitchen included demolition, removal of an additional wall, and installation of new cabinets, countertops and sink with a tile backsplash, plus painting walls and closets; Bathroom #1 included removal of original tile and replacement with drywall and new tile floor, removal of original vanity/countertop and replacement with new, installed new toilet, and paint (adjacent bedroom painted as well). Second bath included removal of existing vanity/countertop, replacement with new, and painting walls and closet. They also did a few "odd jobs", such as replacing a ceiling fan and installing new light fixtures.
Mike and his crew were extremely courteous and committed to the successful completion of my project. The only hiccup in the job was with the sheetrocking. The subcontractor did a wonderful job with sheetrock, but slung mud all over the brand new hardwood floor. One call to the general contractor was all it took to make it right, and I was assured that there would be no further problems like that. Mike's crew was very responsive to every change order that I and my interior designer threw at them, and they didn't overcharge me for them. Mike is the most professional contractor I have ever worked with, and it the end I had a fantastic new living space and a very fair price. I would definitely use this contractor again and will recommend him every chance I get.

Description of Work: Repairs under the house and french drains. Installed 4 new support piers, three new sections of treated carry beams in the middle and back of the house and one section on the rear sill of the house, sistered 12 new floor joists next to the joists that had wood rot, dug a trench around from left side and back of house, applied foundation sealer to the footer and brick. Owner MIchael Eippert and his team did a great job, from estimate to finish, repairing some water damage in our home caused by poor original roof construction. He diagnosed the issues throughly, erred on the side of caution when considering the proper course of action, and very effectively communicated the choices we had when considering a course of action. He also effectively oversaw the installation of a new air handler, and replacement of all duct work for our AC system. When we faced the inevitable small but unexpected issues, Mike dealt is extremely good faith when it came to $$$.

The job was completed on time.?The workers and contractors were very meticulous about cleaning up after themselves daily. Great care was taken not to disrupt the lives of my family. Mike did a wonderful job working with me to get the result exactly as I wanted it. The work was beautiful and it has changed the whole dynamic of my home. We are all very happy with the work. Additionally, even after the finished project Mike did not hesitate to come back for punch work that came up even months later. I absolutely plan to use Commonwealth Contracting on my next house project.
Description of Work: We had 1,100 sq feet of attic space that was remodeled to include a half bath converted to a full, hardwood living area, tiled laundry room and two spacious bedrooms with built out shelving, desks, tray ceilings and large walk in closets. We needed to remove the roof, break away and reinstall brick, install an additional heating and a/c unit, plumbing, electrical, tile, drywall etc. Every aspect of building was involved in the process.
The overall experience was great. The work is high quality. The people are very professional and also friendly. They really came through helped us make the best of a bad situation.
Description of Work: My wife and i had water damage in our house. A supply line for the hall toilet broke in the middle of the night. Commonwealth contracting responded quickly to our call. Our living room, kitchen, hall, and hall bathroom floors had to be removed and replaced. Multiple cabinets and our stove had to be removed to fix this nightmare. Commonwealth contracting fixed our sub floors, installed new tile flooring in the kitchen and bathroom, install new hardwood flooring in our living room and hall, installed a new bathroom vanity and two cabinets in the kitchen, and reinstalled 3 countertops. commonwealth contracting 843-200-9824 460 cessna avenue charleston, sc 29407
We were thrilled with the quality of the work and the level of customer service that Commonwealth Contracting delivered. Before starting this project we thought we were definitely going to have to move out for a while. Mike assured us that as long as we could live with eating off of paper plates for a little while we wouldn't have to move, and he kept his word. Everyday before leaving they would make sure that we had a solid plywood path to walk on to get from one side of the house to the other, and they would move our refrigerator and microwave to whatever location they weren't working in. Most importantly, they did a thorough cleanup everyday; there were never piles of trash in the house and their tools were always stacked in a corner in the garage. Mike and his crew worked hard everyday to get our house put back together, but they never treated our home like a jobsite( if that makes any sense ). MIke and all of his employee's and subcontractors were respectful, nice, and never in too much of a hurry to stop and answer one of our many questions. The whole crew was very knowledgable and really worked together to turn out a great finished product. My family and I love our new kitchen, bathroom, dining room, and living room, and my husband and I are still surprised at how painless the whole process was. We were very impressed with Commonwealth Contracting's craftmanship, cleanliness, and customer service and would recommend them for any type of work on your home.
Description of Work: We had severe water damage from multiple plumbing leaks under the first floor of our house. Mike and his crew came in and moved all of our furniture, removed all of the fixtures, countertops, and cabinets from the kitchen/bathroom, removed all of the flooring, and finally all of the plywood under the flooring. Then Mike took the time to take my husband and I around to show us all of the different things he had to do and why he had to do them. They replaced almost all of the floor joists, and had to jack up the house in multiple locations and brace it, so they could replace the sections of the sill that were rotten. Then they installed new plywood and new flooring throughout the entire first floor (hardwood and tile). Then they installed new cabinets, countertops, and plumbing fixtures in our kitchen and bathroom. Finally they installed new trim, new lighting, repaird sheetrock, and painted everyhting.

Mike Eippert at Commonwealth Contracting helped me build a house 100% from the ground up and he was there every step of the way. The end result was exceptional quality and he made sure I was a part of the whole process. He has also been ready and willing to do the smallest repair to a home. I would recommend him to my friends and family.
Description of Work: New home construction. 100% home building from vacant lot to certificate of occupancy.
