In 1958, when Leo and Virginia Sloan entered the appliance service business, they set out to provide the best service in their market. Over the years, the name “Sloan Appliance Service” has become synonymous with quality. Today, Sloan Appliance has grown to twenty employees and is more successful than ever. We’re the largest independent appliance service company in the Midlands. We are also the exclusive repair and parts resource for premium brand of appliances, such as Viking, Bosch, Sub Zero, Uline, Thermador, Wolf, and Five Star. Other companies will not service many of these brands. All technicians are certified by the manufacturer and Sloan Appliance has access to technical assistance direct from the factory. Our labor warranty is 30 days from repair date and our warranty for parts is 1 year. No other service provider in the Midlands can offer this. They do very consistent work. They are very good and thorough. They are very knowledgeable about multiple products. If I have another appliance problem, I will give them a call. They are not the cheapest, but they are not the most expensive. If you want it done right the first time, give them a call.

Came out last week but forgot the parts to do the repair. Didn't charge for that visit. WIfe asked for Angie's List discount...they do not offer this. Dishwaher part cost was double what I could get from Lowe's Appliance Service. $85 Service call + $80 for 1/2 hour labor; total labor $165. They offered $10 off after I complained that this seemed high. Maybe it is or maybe it isn't. Happy to get dishwasher fixed; just seems like gouging for the time spent on the repair.

I wholeheartedly agree with this member that the cost of repair is becoming excessive. The cost of parts continues to rise and the cost to maintain trained, factory-certified technicians is rising as well. In this case, the retail price for the dishwasher dispenser is actually $93.71. The price charged the member was $85.19. In fact, 4 clips required to install the dispenser were provided free. Our cost for these clips is $4.76 each. The technician did indeed provide the $10.00 discount for repeat service. The member mentions that he could get the same part from Lowes Appliance Service for approximately half the cost. Sloan Appliance provides a one-year warranty on all parts installed in repairs. However, we would be glad to install any part the member provides, but with the understanding that no warranty is provided by Sloan Appliance on the part provided by the member. As for labor charges, $85.00 for diagnosis of the appliance includes of course, travel, but also extensive training and certification of each technician. The member can be assured that every technician that comes into your home is factory as well as NasTEC certified, is bonded, insured, has undergone a full background, drug, and driving record screening. The labor charges also include overhead charges for office staff to set up the call, a parts department to order and receive parts, liability insurance, workmen’s compensation insurance, and labor paid to the technician. Again, I agree repair costs are becoming excessive. These charges are necessary to offer a quality service that can provide members the assurance that their appliance will be properly repaired in a timely manner and provide warranties on the parts (one year) and labor (thirty days).

Description of Work: Replaced the defrost thermostat. Very professional and timely. The only thing I think should maybe be different is for the $85 to somehow be partially factored in to the overall labor cost - especially if it's a simple repair, as I was told..

Repairman arrived late on Friday but didn't have $5 part needed and parts warehouse was closed for three days. He returned the following Tuesday and replaced front-load washer door striker plate (required manipulating 2 screws) - took all of 10 minutes. I didn't begrudge doubling the cost of the part nor the $40 labor charge (I expected that), but I really took umbrage with the $85 transportation charge (Sloan is only 17 miles from my home). Additionally, the repairman failed to notice the door was out of alignment which was the cause of the striker plate breaking in the first place - I had to replace it again in a few months (total cost to me was $5 for the part). Overall, poor service and totally unethical mileage charges.
Description of Work: Replaced front-load washer door striker plate - removed two screws, replaced part, screwed in two screws.

I personally spoke with the member regarding this complaint. His primary complaint was the $84.50 trip/diagnosis charge, which the member considers to be unfair. This is a standard diagnosis charged each new service call to cover the cost of having a factory trained, NaTec certified technician to diagnose the appliance at the customer's home or place of business. The member was also upset that the technician did not have the part for his appliance on his van and was required to wait over a holiday (Memorial Day) weekend to complete the repair. Sloan Appliance has over $5,000 of parts on each van, but simply cannot stock each and every part for all 50+ brands that we service. The original complaint was that the door mechanism on the washer was not functioning properly. While we do stock the door latch for his washer on the technician's van, we do not stock the door latch (which was the problem diagnosed in this case). The member stated that he had to replace the striker plate again in a few months due to the fact that the washer door was out of alignment. Sloan Appliance offers a 1 year warranty on all parts and will reimburse the member the full cost of the part used on this repair. I apologized to the member for the negative service experience he had with Sloan Appliance Service. We have been in business over 50 years providing positive customer experience to our customers. I would like to offer the member a $10.00 discount on his next service experience with Sloan Appliance, if he so chooses to use us.

It has not gone well. They called to see if someone could meet them between 10 and 10:30, when they had been informed that someone would not be available until after 2:00. I was told he would have to check his schedule and call me back--that was 4 days ago and we have heard nothing.
Description of Work: I see where they've received good reviews, but we can't get them to come as scheduled or call back when they say they're going to.

This is totally my (President) error. Technician was stuck in one house for 5 hours and could not make appointment as scheduled. Technician also suffered a blown tire on way home after 6:30 p.m. that night. Rescheduled call for Wednesday, December 14 and did not contact customer as intended. Upon receipt of this report, contacted customer and offered to schedule for today. However, customer works out of town and rescheduled for Monday, December 19 per customer request. Offered a $10 discount on service for my mistake. Again, this is not a typical Sloan Appliance occurrence. Re-writing scheduling procedure to put in checks and balances to prevent recurrence.

They were prompt. They did a good job. Their price was reasonable. It was a fine experience. They really knew what they were doing. They were familiar with the product and knew how to fix it. I would use them in the future.

Matt Y and Sloan Appliance have been to our residence at least half a dozen times to work on our 1yr old Electrolux refrigerator. Matt has listened to my complaints, and worked h****** my behalf with Electrolux to get each issue resolved. As a result, not only have we been able to correct multiple issues, but the factory warranty was extended by another year! I'm not sure that we would ever buy Electrolux appliances again, but we will certainly continue to use Sloan Appliances! Matt's positive, can-do attitude is a great example of what customer service should be! Thank you Matt Y!

Most everything about my interaction with Sloan Appliance went very well. They've been in business for quite some time in my area and have a decent reputation. My only issue is that it took two visits from the service tech to get my fridge working. The first visit was triage and diagnosis and the second visit was a return trip about 2 days later after the part was ordered. Too bad these guys don't have all the parts they need on the truck so they only have to make one trip to take care of a service issue. I'm thinking this company could increase their capacity and reach if they had inventory on hand.
Description of Work: My refrigerator stopped cooling correctly. Apparently my particular model had a known issue with a bad board that required a rebuild kit. Too bad my unit was out of warranty. The service tech was courteous and professional. Very knowledgeable about what he as doing and worked fast.

Appreciate the feedback. We try to stock each truck with as many commonly used parts as possible. However, many manufacturers have now designed many of their own specific brand components and we have lost the ability to carry those "common" parts. We simply cannot stock every part either in our warehouse or on each truck. Sorry it took three days to repair your refrigerator. We strive to do as many first call completions as possible.

The field technician was on time, professional and performed the work as needed. Ten days after I paid the field technician the full amount I received a final bill in the mail. Surprise! It was for $110.81 less than what I paid. I called and left a message, no response from the company. I called again, regarding the discrepancy, and was told that the "new computer system" left out the labor charges. I'm assuming the office staff reviews all the paperwork and then sends out the final bill. It looks to me that I over paid.
Description of Work: Refrigerator's ice dispenser door wasn't working properly and found another problem with the unit that required additional time and parts.

I apologize for the billing error. It is true that we did implement a new mobile computer system that did have some glitches when first implemented in mid-May. All invoices are reviewed before being mailed and this one slipped through the crack during the implementation. Please understand that printed circuit boards used in appliance design are quite often very expensive. You were billed the existing regional retail price for these controls. Aaron was on time, checked ovenand found the problem, then explained the problem. They ordered the part and three days later they came and installed the new computer board in 10 minutes. The oven works now.

Jeff was the technician that helped us. He was on time. He diagnosed the problem and provided an estimate for repair. However, he went the extra mile by finding us a replacement oven at a appliance dealer that was an exact fit for ours. The new oven was only $200 more than the repair estimate. He came back and installed it after delivery. So instead of a 15 year old oven with a new motherboard we have a new oven. The size was a hard to find one and we could not believe he knew where a new one was. Prices for both visits were very reasonable. Great Experience and will definitely use this company again. Honest with professional employees.

I did not compare prices though I did call different companies. They seemed knowledgeable and well informed. They seemed like experts. I do not know if they are less expensive or not. They came out when the said they were going to, diagnosed the problem and then he even found the part I needed cheaper. I would use them again.

We had purchased a new dishwasher and it had a defective switch. So, we called the 1800 number that was on the warranty of the dishwasher company and they sent us to someone else. We had a disastrous experience with them. It took them 3 weeks to replace the switch. On one occasion they made an appointment and I stayed here all day long waiting for them to show up, but they never showed up. It was really awful. Sloan Appliance Service was an alternative that they had offered. The reason why I hadn't used their services before was because I had called the first place that they had suggested and made an appointment. Then I called Sloan to see if I could get an earlier appointment, but they said they couldn't. So, I went with the appointment that I had. We once again had a problem and we were thinking of replacing a gas range before Christmas. A guy came out to have a look at the range and told me that he could fix it, but he recommended me to buy a new one. He didn't charge me anything. I was impressed by his integrity. He showed me something about the dishwasher and the problem with the other company is that they are understaffed. The guy who came out was prompt and he came when he said he would come. He was courteous and friendly. He gave me an honest opinion and it also saved me money. Everything about him was excellent. I would definitely use his services in the future and I would definitely call them back if I have any problems with large appliances. They are a local company as well and they are well established in this community. They depend upon word of mouth.

The experience went great. They arrived right when they promised they would. Based on my explanation over the phone, the tech had an idea of what it might be. He pulled the stove out and identified within five minutes that the problem lied within the 220 volt receptacle the stove plugged into. I replaced the receptacle and the stove works great. I was ready to spend $1000 on a new stove or at least $200-$300 on the repair. I was happy to pay the $80! From what I can tell, Sloan is a pretty solid and reputable company.
Description of Work: Stove/range was malfunctioning. The Sloan tech identified the problem.

From the first interaction to completion of the work, the professionalism and customer focus that the Sloan team displayed was excellent. Frank, the service technician, went out of his way to accommodate my time frame and schedule and was quick and thorough.
Description of Work: We had two service calls by Sloan within two weeks. The first was to repair a washing machine and the second to repair a cook top.
