Carolina Air was very responsive and fit me into their schedule very quickly. Chris came out and diagnosed the problem very quickly. The igniter needed replaced. Chris went back to the office and checked availablility of the part. He was able to fit me in the next morning to replace the part. The only problem I had was with the part price. I was told the service call was $85. Was informed that there wouldn't be another service call the following day and that I would just pay the cost of the part and not for service...which I was told was $140. When I checked on line for this part.....everywhere I checked was between $20 to $25. Even with the $20 off coupon I paid $120 for a $25 part.

Member, We are sorry that you feel like you were over charged by us for your service call and ignitor. Looking up a price online for a part isn't the amount CCA and or any company can charge you for installing an ignitor. We get our parts from local distributors and not online ( you just don't know what you will get). Ignitors must be handled with extreme care and not just anyone knows that you can't physically touch the part. We take pride here in our excellent work and customer service. We don't want to be known for the cheapest in town and because you do pay for what you get, and we do give 110% to each and every customer we see. We have knowlegdeable techs and office staff and we use flat rate for our pricing. We have vans, insurance, office, tools, phones and the list goes on. It simply isn't cheap to run a "tight ship" . Please feel free to call us if you need anything, we stand behind our work and are happy to answer any questions.

I will highly recommend them. It was a one day installation. They came out and they did an outstanding job. They were prepared and they brought all the materials that they needed. They were professional and their crew worked very well together. They did the installation in a single day and cleaned up. I didn't have any problems whatsoever.
Description of Work: Carolina Custom Air LLC replaced my HVAC in July. They were here on the 21st of November for a free service call.

Member, Thanks you for taking time to write a review, this helps us become a better company. I was shocked at hearing about us getting your floors/carpet dirty! I wish that you had called us and we would have been more than willing to get that cleaned up for you. Please don't hesitate calling us if you ever see something that wasn't left the way we found it. We appreciate you being honest and hope to work with you again soon. As far as the two follow-up appointments, we gave the maintenance for a year to you and extend the 10% for the entire year. We completed the one service at the install and again feel bad that this wasn't communicated well to you. If you have any questions and or concerns let us know. Carolina Custom Air thanks you for being apart of our family. Amanda-Office Manager

Our air condenser for upstairs blew out (the compressor for the second time). Unfortunately, we had an American Home Shield home warranty. They sent a company out that was going to replace our system with a VERY cheap replacement. They told us some things that were not lies but were not the full story about a new system. Add to the issue that this was the 2nd compressor that AHS had replaced in two years, which of course always breaks in the middle of a heat wave). At the time we were having 90 degree weather with high humidity so we were camping out downstairs with a working unit to be able to sleep (upstairs felt like 85 degrees in the dead of night with windows open). The repair would take 1-2 weeks. We initially considered the new system because it could be installed before the part could be repaired and because the system itself was the original system on a 14 year old house. We would be able to "cash out" the cost of the part and repair and put it towards the new system. Then we started doing some research into things and got 4 different quotes including the cheap repair guys from AHS. They were going to be $3400 for the crappy, no-name equipment. What we found out was that SCE&G gives a $200-$300 credit for new systems that are "high-efficiency" (SEER15) AND you can still get a $300 tax credit for SEER15 systems for 2011. The cheap system would not qualify, so it was actually going to cost us $500 to not go with an HE system. So the cheap guys system actually was going to cost $3900 for a system that was not going to save us a lot of money in electric, but would work. We got quotes from the low $3900 to $8800. The funny thing was that the three other quotes were for the SAME system. A TRANE high efficiency system. Carolina wasn't the lowest of the three, but they were $2000 lower than the highest. They were right on time on the day of install, did a great job, cleaned up (I didn't have to raise a hand at all), and our air actually smelled and felt cleaner and has been working great since! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Description of Work: Replaced our old upstairs HVAC system (Air handler and condenser), as well as, ran new refrigerant lines, and added one extra supply run (which we always wanted but never got added).

I finally had enough of spending money on an 8 yr old builder grade unit which had a leak at the evaporator coil, always required expensive refills of R-22 refrigerant, wasn't cooling in summer, was freezing over in winter, and had en estimated repair cost of $1500. I decided to invest in a new unit. I checked Angie's List and got quotes from the top 3 rated A/C & Heating contractors in my area, and from the very beginning, Carolina Custom Air set themselves apart. Patrick (the owner of the company) was very knowledgeable, personable, honest, and professional in providing the free estimate. I felt comfortable choosing them based on that first contact, and the reviews I read on Angie's List. My subsequent contact with the office staff was also great. Amy answered all the questions I had about financing, the SCE&G rebate, and the tax rebate, and she set me up with an installation appointment the following week. The day of the appointment, the first technician showed up 30 minutes early. When does that ever happen? He got to work right away, and soon there were 4 techs on the job (John, Chris, Reggie, and the owner Patrick), all of them very friendly. They were glad to explain things as they went along and answered any questions I had. I got the distinct impression that they all knew exactly what they were doing (which is what you hope for, but somehow isn't that common these days), and they worked efficiently and expertly (no standing around scratching their heads). They dismantled the old air handler, took it down out of the attic, brought the new one up into the attic, ran the new refrigerant line set, disconnected the outside unit, connected the new heat pump, and made sure it was all running correctly. Sounds simple enough when I write it, but it was hard work. First tech showed up at 8 am, they were done by 2 pm. Bottom line: this was my best experience ever with an AC/Heating contractor (actually, probably the best experience with ANY contractor), and I can't recommend them enough. Great job guys! Thanks again!
Description of Work: Installed new Trane Heat Pump and Air Handler, new copper refrigerant line set and electrical wiring. I also opted for the 10 yr extended warranty (parts and labor).

Carolina Custom Air LLC is awesome! These guys are the real deal. I took my time to find and pay for three different companies to come out and perform a diagnostic of my air conditioning system. I viewed it as an initial investment to into having a potential go-to AC company for any problems that I will have in the future. I will definitely be using Carolina Custom Air LLC here on out. Anjie answered the phones and was always nice and prompt. Patrick, the owner, actually came out himself to do the work after the initial diagnostic b/c I was in a bind. The initial assessment was that I was out of freon and all three companies suspected the Evaporator Core. One company did not give a good estimate and basically wanted to come back out to perform a leak check and charge $119 before they would give a real estimate. The other two companies, including Carolina Custom, gave estimates on the most ideal reason the system was out of freon - replacing the Evaporator Core. Which is what it is 85% of the time when your system is out of freon and your compressor and fan still work. But what set Carolina Custom apart was that they took the time to find out if my system was still under warranty and provided me with a better and more accurate estimate. Not knowing that was possible, I asked the other company to do the same and I never heard from them again. Every time I called Carolina Custom, I spoke with Anjie, who was extremely nice and courteous. She handled everything very professionally. Now that I had a good idea of who I needed to go with, I still wanted to verify that their work was good, timely, and priced right. Carolina Custom Air delivered. They set up an appointment for the next day at 0730. After hanging up I learned that my tenants would be coming in that very night. I called back and asked if they could by any chance get it fixed any sooner. Patrick, the owner, drove back from Columbia, SC and came to the house to fix the problem himself that very night. After arriving at the house and working on the system, he called me and said that he could not find a leak and had the system pressurized for 30 minutes. Most companies at this point would probably take advantage of the distant landlord and lie and fix something that didn't quite need to be fixed - like the Evaporator Core. For Patrick to say that all it needed was refrigerant says a lot about him. But he didn't stop there. He wanted to make sure that it wasn't simply a small leak that wasn't detectable in 30 minutes. So he left the system pressurized and came back first thing in the morning to verify. Since the tenants already made hotel arrangements, this made a lot of sense to me. Patrick took the time to call me and explain in detail what he was doing and how he was doing it. I felt like I was right there. I trust him. The next day he came back and sure enough found that there was a small leak in which was only detectable over a long period of time. Most other companies would have hastily either fixed something that didn't need to be fixed or simply recharge with refrigerant - only for you to need some more as it leaked out over the next several months. But not Carolina Custom Air. They took the time to find the leak and fix it right. And they did it promptly, respectfully, and PROFESSIONALLY. I called Anjie back and said thank you. She let me talk to Amy who took care of the bill and I paid by credit card and even then I was impressed when Amy told me that they do not write down credit card numbers and punch them in the machine as you say them over the phone. I am always worried about identity theft and wonder if people shred your number after they write it down. Amy was on top of it without me even asking. Amazing. The final bill came out to be $650 which included $85 for the diagnostic and the rest for work performed which included recharging the system with 8.5 lbs of freon - which is not cheap no matter what company you choose. I found that price to be amazing for the expeditious and professional service rendered. Thank you guys. Hopefully I will never have another air conditioning system problem, but if I do, I will definitely use you again!
Description of Work: Carolina Custom Air came out to the house and performed a diagnostic of my air conditioning system and found the system to be out of refrigerant. After the diagnostic they provided an estimate of what they believed the problem to be (evaporator core needing to be replaced) and then came back out to the house to do a thorough leak check and found a leak in the condenser at the feeder tube. They repaired the leak and pulled a vacuum. They ended up recharging the unit with 8.5 lbs of freon (R-410 A).

I was pleased with the service from the initial call to the completion of service. I called Carolina Custom Air because of dissatisifaction with a different company. The office set up an appointment within days of the initial call. The service was efficient and I thought that the person completed the inspection appropriately and timely.
Description of Work: The service man called prior to the appointment as the company scheduler said he would. He arrived within the time frame suggested. This was for maintenance service. He examined the equipment inside and out side after a brief discussion with input from me. The disconnect box cover was off (from a previous check by another company) and he didn't have the correct hardware at this appointment. He said he would come back on the next workday, to try to repair the cover or replace it. He was able to repair the cover with two screws. I mentioned that I had been told by a person from te other company that the outside disconnect box needed replacing. He didn't see anything on his first visit but would recheck it. It was OK. I signed the contract for two maintenace services and this initial service was applied as one of the services. This saved me money. I was pleased with the office assistance and the service man.

Our upstairs A/C unit went out on a Sunday night and we were miserable during the current heat wave. Got this company's info on Angie's List and they came out the next day. This company was responsible and punctual. I also felt he was honest because we don't know anything about A/C units, and he could have told us that something more expensive was wrong- but it turned out to be a capacitor- a relatively inexpensive part- with labor it only came to $228. He also inspected our other unit while he was here. He was very friendly and took time to explain to my husband what was wrong.

We cannot say enough about this company. They were very professional through the whole process. Patrick Blevins, the owner, came to the house and explained several options. The work was done on time in a professional manor. After work, the area was cleaned up and left as they found it. Everyone from the office and owner to the installers were very pleasant and polite. Excellent. They arrived on the time and day that they said they would and started getting to work immediately. From the minute they showed up they did not stop working and were done really quick. They also ended up moving the air handler up in the attic to a better position that actually made more walking room in the attic which was an added bonus. After the install they took the time to explain the warranty information, the tax credits, and answered all questions for us. Granted it did take a few days to set up the install, but that was because it took a few days to get the new equipment in to them, but as soon as it arrived they had an install time and date set up the very next day for us which was a blessing with the heat starting to rise. Just an incredible job and we are extremely happy with their service.

Carolina Custom Air started early and were finished in 2 1/2 days. Cardboard was put in the hall as not to track dust from the attic. They removed the old duck work and repositioned the new one in attic and built a wooden stand for one of the outside units. His team was considerate and easy to have in the house.
Description of Work: We needed a new ac/ heating system and had several bids before we decided on Carolina Custom Air. We were impressed by the professionalism of the owner and his eye for detail. He measured the house, recommended two separate units and redo the duck work as it was too large for the size of the house. He and his men came and finished in a timely manner. Over all we are very pleased.

They were easy to get in touch with and responsive to messages. It was easy to schedule an appointment and they were on time and professional. They looked at our system and spent some time testing the parts. One of the parts needed to be replaced. They also said that next time another part would need to be replaced. They did a very good job of explaining the parts that needed replacement, what they do and why they needed work, I had complete confidence that this was work that needed to be performed.
Description of Work: We put our heat pump system under a service contract with this company. They came out for the first service. They found that one part needed to be replaced. It was less than a $100 repair. They left me with the old part and I felt good about the repair. The $145 is for the service contract for the entire year.

These are the most honest and wonderful people. Being fairly new to the Charleston area, I was in the dark about what to do and who to call. I will recommend Carolina Custom Air to anyone who will listen to me...they are what a family-owned company should be!
Description of Work: This company is amazing!! My roommate and I bought a house and when the cold weather hit, we realized that the downstairs bedroom was receiving less heat than the rest of the house. Knowing that my daughter would be coming home from college for a visit, I didn't want her first nights in her new bedroom to be miserable so I contacted Carolina Custom Air as I had heard that they were wonderful. Amanda wrote me right back and said that they would be available to come that day, if necessary. I was going out of town and didn't respond and so I received another very nice note from Amanda touching bases to make sure everything was alright. When I returned, I called and to my surprise, Patrick, the owner, a most delightful and personable young man, came over on Saturday to check out the situation as he was worried that my daughter would be home without heat in her room. When I told Patrick that I thought the previous owner had put in the heating/air unit and ductwork himself, Patrick offered to check out not only the units themselves, but ALL the duct work in the entire house. After finishing and telling me that the previous owner had done a good job, he explained the reason that my daughter's room was not especially warm and offered various options. We decided to wait to put in a new vent and are trying out one of his suggestions. When I asked what the charge was for his time( a good hour), he told me that there was no charge!

He arrived on time and fully prepared with tools and parts. A most excellent experience. We tried another company that cancelled on us, re-scheduled an appointment with us and then didn't show up.Claimed we never made the appointment, then told us we had to pay an extra $30.00 for emergency service, and showed up late for that call. Then the guy then told me the "to replace a 1/2 HP blower motor would be $700.00" and he touched the compressor and it was hot. "Therefore, the compressor would have to be replaced for another $2300.00". That's when I called Angie's list. They reccommended Carolina Air. I called them and John was here within one hour (with an assistant) He explained the whole problem and the fix to me and then went right to work. Within 15 minutes he was done and gone and the A/C system worked perfectly.

I had other quotes, and they weren't all that far off, but they were all in the ball park. All in all it was a very clean job. The guy who gave the quote said he would be here within the hour and he was here within a half hour. He got a quote in the email to me right away. I requests another quote because I wanted another type unit. His office responded right away. They started right on time and finished two hours ahead of time.
Description of Work: They replaced a whole new air conditioning unit.

Our a/c had quit working after 5 on a hot evening in July. I called and he was here in about 45 minutes. He went right to work and we were cooling down about an hour later. He was very nice and professional.
