Marshall Building & Remodeling

After reading good reviews on Angie's List, I called Marshall Building about a bid for exterior work on my home (roof, windows, gutters, wood shingles). I liked the fact that this contractor could do all of the required work and that I wouldn't have to deal with multiple contractors. The owner, Dave Marshall, did return my initial call quickly, but subsequent communications were not as prompt. After he did a driveby of the house, I was eventually given a verbal estimate over the phone and told a written estimate would be forthcoming. I never got the written estimate, nor were my two follow-up phone calls returned. There was no "issue" that came up during my conversation with the owner and my job was fairly straightforward. I'm not sure what happened...

They were pretty good. I have recommended them to several other people and those people have already used them. They did a fantastic job. They were very quick, clean and professional. I had no complaints about them at all. They did the job at a good price. I got several quotes. They should have been cheaper, but they came with professional crew and their price was the lowest I got compared to anybody else. I was very happy since I got my money?s worth. The quality of their work and windows was excellent. They had a crew of 4 to do the roof. They stripped it and then laid down the ice protector on the edges. They then cleaned out the gutters. They also cleaned up after themselves pretty well. They were very good at what they did. They had another guy come in for the windows. I was kind of shocked that there was only 1 guy and I couldn?t believe the work he did. He did the work of 3 all by himself. He installed 13 windows in 2 days. He was amazing. He did extra work too like installing air conditioners in the windows. He cut out block wood and put it on the top of the windows. It was for safety purposes. They caulked everything. They even had to make a new sill in the kitchen because I went from 2 windows to 1 sliding window. It was an excellent job. They also put the finished trim on the outside. Everyone we recommended them to have been happy with them. I would use their services in the future too.

Slow in responding with estimate - apparently the person who came to do the estimate misplaced it, and I had to call; price was higher than other estimate I received

I called one other company first, off Angie's list, who stated that my issue sounded like too small a job for them. I called Marshall's and they set up an appointment with their appraisor. I met Tom Marshall at the house and he noted that the gutter was correctly positioned. He then looked at the second floor ceiling and noted that the possible leak had to be coming from somwhere further up the roof. He felt that the job would likely be a quick fix and could be done by a small "company" for less money. Was I ever surprised by this response - I appreciated it greatly. He gave me the name of someone he knew personally and who lived close by. I called Tom's office and they gave me this guy's cell phone number. I called, he said he might be able to stop by that same day and he'd let me know what he thought. He didn't show, so I figured it was a lost cause. The following Saturday, I'm working at the house (it's for sale) and Dennis, the guy in question, shows up with his helper. He had finished late the previous time we spoke and since he was in the neighborhood, he 'd take a look. Next thing I know, he's up on the roof pounding in a few popped nails and he found the culprit, a nail used to hold a ladder jack that had not been properly removed. He caulked the hole and the problem's solved! Start to finish, 30 minutes and I had to offer him money for his time as he made no effort to tell me what he would charge! Since I didn't have much cash on me, he was okay with me sending him a check. I'm sure running a business is nuts these days but meeting these two gentlemen was a refreshing change and a reminder of how a "professional" does things.

Tom Marshall and his team all were all very professional. The team used care in removing the shingles and did not damage my home or property in any way. The shingle installation appears to have been done correctly and I did not detect any shortcuts being taken by the crew. Tom and I did have a small disconnect on the price quoted but it was not significant enough to change to another contractor. In all it was a very positive experience and I would use this company again if I needed this kind of work done.

John Marshall was the only contractor who took the time to go on the roof to assess the situation. He answered all my questions in a professional and timely manner. The price was reasonable and he provided me with an official estimate which spelled exactly what was to be done and what it would cost. Despite a rain delay which pushed the start of replacement, the crew arrived each day promptly and worked virtually non-stop. They also answered my questions thoroughly. I am grateful for their persistence in completing the job and their thoroughness in cleaning up after-wards. I highly recommend using Marshall Building & Remodeling!

I received a quick response from my call, we discussed the plan, and I got a written estimate/price a few days later. The work was done within about two weeks. The whole operation was professional and pleasant; the results look excellent.

Andy Marshall and his company called right back, showed up on time, and could not have been more pleasant and professional. He kept me informed as to when he could start the job, and the team that he sent were hard-working and did a great job. They removed the old siding and took their time applying the new plastic shingles. The workers were very nice people and were always polite and cleaned up after themselves. The second part of the job was a small roof replacement, and when it was done, I was not so happy with one spot on the roof and a white strip that I had hoped would be the color of the new shingles. I paid Andy anyway, and wondered if he would fix both of the things I mentioned. Within a few days, both of these problems were completely fixed and I could not be more pleased. This is a person and a company that stands behind their work, and I am so glad that there are still a few companies that do this! I have very high expectations, and this company did not let us down. I spoke with a number of other siding people, and they tried to do things like not rip off the old shingles to save some time and money. Andy Marshall and his company did the job right, and stood by their word. I can not recommend them strongly enough.

We have delayed that siding work. . They were very professional and came, looked at it and did the estimate. They showed us samples and the price they quoted us was somewhere around $12,000 for that work.

They were good. They did 15 windows in one day which was impressive. They were all the right windows and cost better than all of the competition I've seen like Low's and Home Depot. The quality was better than what I have seen too.

Their price was the highest among the 3 quotes I got and the price was $7,000. They were nice, good and on time. They were professional and I did not have any complaints.

I was very impressed by them. They were very professional and they thoroughly explained the process with which they would work and how they would treat different areas of the house. They also explained how they handle different problems of the house to have this job come out in the best possible way. I have 2 friends who had their house done by them and they could not say enough good things about them. Unlike with other companies, I walked around the house with this guy and he explained what they could do and how best it would work out and look good. He came here at 1 o?clock and did not leave until 2 o?clock and he spent the whole time educating me. I would not hesitate giving any job to him.

Their service was great. The work was done quite fast; they were here a day and a half. It has been fine, and we've had no problems with it at all. They were here on time. They weren't the cheapest, but they had one of the better prices and they did a really good job. The quality was good. They told us exactly what they were going to do and what materials they would use. They left extra materials, and it took a couple of calls for them to come back to get them. They were very professional, and we were really happy that we went with them.

David Marshall came to our house measured everything and was very nice. NO high pressure!!! Very knowledgeable. Price was better than 2 other places and he had better windows!!! His installer, Bob was right on time, did a great job and left everything perfect and cleaned up everything. We couldn't be happier. The windows and door has made a HUGE difference in the warmth in the house and made it nice and quite inside. If you don't buy from them ,or at least get a quote from Marshall you'd be making a big mistake.

Marshall was extremely quick to get back to us, and was very professional in describing our options for different roofing types to replace and old roof over a porch. In addition, Marshall laid out various options for installing leaf guards into an extremely difficult to reach section of old, hanging copper gutters on another part of the house. They provided the lowest quote of 3 estimates we received, and when they came they did exactly what they said they would, and completely cleaned up both work areas. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the job they did. My only gripe is this: during the initial visit, Marshall provided a ballpark estimate, and based on my experience this visit we knew we wanted to hire them. However, it took nearly 3 weeks of phone calls to get a written estimate following this visit, and another 3-4 weeks to get the work done after we signed the contract. I have the impression that they might respond faster to a bigger job, but hard to know.

He's easy to talk to. A good salesman, but very personable. 20 years ago when we had our dormers done, everything he said he would do he did. We had some special requests during the process, and he was able to accommodate them without a problem. He never refused anything. As far as the roof and garage door, the work was done quickly and the clean up was great.

Two of the guys in the crew were also in the crew 20 years ago when they had come out and did some work on our dormers. They had to strip part of the roof, and that can get messy, but they did get a small dumpster, and the clean up was very, very good. It was quick. They came on a Monday, which was the Columbus Day holiday, so they were unable to get the dumpster until Tuesday morning. They did as much as they could without stripping the one part that they had to, and then Tuesday they did it as quick as they could. As soon as the dumpster came they stripped the front of the roof and put the shingles on, and they were done. Come Wednesday morning the dumpster was done and they had already done their clean up.

We started with this project because we had a leak in our cathedral ceiling in our living room. We contacted Marshall for a quote and they got back to us very quickly and their quote was very reasonable compared to the other 2 companies we got quotes from. One of the things we liked about this company was the fact that they don't expect any money until the whole job is done, other companies wanted deposits right away. They also give you a 10 yr warranty on workmanship. The job started right on time and without delay. They coordinated every job so that there was no delay between one crew and another. When problems arose they were quick to deal with and fix them and we are pleased with the work they did.

The company did excellent work. They arrived on schedule and finished the major portion of the job in two days. They cleaned up after themselves. The only problem was that they didn't order enough solar tubing to span the distance between the roof and the ceiling, and had to order additional tubing ("C" grade for professionalism for this).

My house is big and built with two main roofs, four porch roofs, a breezeway and an atrium. This was a big undertaking. Marshall s was quick as it seemed like they did the job overnight. You couldn t tell the next day that any work was even done. I believe it actually took them two days but it seemed quicker. The workers made the job look easy and I am sure it was not. They noticed that part of my siding had come loose and they even fixed that. They didn t take a penny till the job was finished and I was completely satisfied. They are now doing replacement windows on this house. They do top notch work.

WE CALLED THEM SO THEY COULD GIVE US AN ESTIMATE, AND THEY WERE ON THE JOB REPLACING THE WINDOWS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. THE FINAL PRICE ENDED UP BEING LOWER THAN THE ESTIMATED PRICE.

IT WAS DELIGHTFUL TO WORK WITH THIS COMPANY AND I REALLY APPRECIATE THE WORK ETHIC THEY HAD THE WHOLE TIME THEY WERE HERE. THEY WERE ON TIME AND VERY RESPECTFUL. THEY TOOK PRIDE IN THEIR WORK, AS WELL.

THIS COMPANY DID A GOOD JOB ROOFING OUR HOME. WE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE GUTTER ON THE HOUSE. WE HAD A HARD TIME GETTING THEM TO COME BACK TO TAKE CARE OF IT. OUR ROOF LOOKS GOOD THOUGH.

THIS COMPANY WAS TOLD TO DO EVERYTHING THAT WAS NECESSARY TO BE DONE IN FIXING THE ROOF AND THEY DIDN'T. THEY CLEANED UP THE GROUND BUT NOT THE GUTTERS. THEY DIDN'T WARN ME OF THE MESS THAT WOULD RESULT IN MY ATTIC, EITHER.

THE WORK THAT THIS COMPANY DID WAS VERY GOOD. THEY GOT THE JOB DONE IN ABOUT TWO DAYS. THEY MADE SURE EVERYTHING WAS PICKED UP WHEN THEY LEFT. WE WERE VERY SATISFIED WITH THEM.
