Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup

They did not make the 4-hour same day window they specified, so I rebooked for the following morning. Technician Apollo showed up promptly, gave an estimate, and worked several hours both inside and outside to clear the pipes. He called another tech, James, who came out and ran a camera through the length of the pipe to diagnose the condition of the pipe on my property. He suggested and estimated abatement of a c!ay pipe situation which was problematic. Both men were very professional and I thought the price was fair for the team of 24-7 services involved. When they were not going to make the window the day of the call, I got a call, and made the choice to wait. I was immediately rebooked with no problems.

Again, the technician, Andrew Morin (Tech #2251) could not have been more helpful! The root blockage was quite severe and required a great deal of effort on his part to clear it. Given that the problem was caused by the initial installation, we are contacting the original installer hoping that he will stand behind his work, which in this instance was not satisfactory. We have used Roto-Rooter many times in the past and I would not hesitate to use them again or recommend them to friends and family.

The person who handled my initial call ( I didn't get her name) was responsive, professional and extremely helpful. She went out of her way to accommodate my scheduling needs. Ed LaChapelle was the plumber. He showed up on time, was courteous and explained everything he was doing and why. Ed did a terrific job. He was professional, completed the job on time, and left his work space clean and tidy. I am very satisfied with the quality of the work and customer service I received.

The job was done quickly and cleanly. As a matter of fact he showed me things I didn't know about my property. All in all I am very satisfied.

They came when they said they would and completed the work well and neatly!

It was a GREAT experience! The technician, James, was knowledgeable and personable. He showed me everything he was doing with complete explanations of why and what he was finding that needed attention. This would have been understandable if it had been a routine service midweek call but this was an emergency situation at midnight on a Sunday!

Jim was very efficient, told cost before beginning job. Searched pipes found object, also noticed some roots in main pipe.Cleaned up area thoroughly. Provided good general maintenance information

Through the years i paid Roto Rooter over $20,000.00 to fix a myriad of problems with the plumbing in my house and to install a high efficiency boiler and indirect fired hot water tank. Every time technician Ann can to work on the boiler she left, once without turning the unit back on and leaving about half of the valves turned off and the second time several of the valves turned off. The last time Ann and Louie can to my house was to replace the new and defective indirect fired hot water tank. Several months after this was done my boiler started to malfunction. When Louie cam to my house for the last time he said that the boiler was too complicated to work on and that I would have to get someone else to work on it. A phone to the Providence area supervisor was totally useless. He told me that the technology was changing too rapidly for Roto Rooter to know how to fix everything and suggested I call the manufacturer. All this after i paid them good money to install the system. I did call the service department for National Grid. Their technician immediately noticed that the valve was open on the hot water tank and that this would interrupt the the operation of the system. He closed it and most of the problems disappeared. It was necessary for him to come back and he easily opened the owners manual for the boiler. looked at the trouble shooting section and within five minutes concluded that a sensor in the control panel was defective. I am through with Roto Rooter and their passing the buck way of doing business. A former employee of theirs told me that Roto Rooter did a study and determined that residential customers use them about once every 6 years so Roto Rooters casts them aside. No more with Roto Rooter and their poorly trained plumbers.

As typical homeowners we tried several different means of unclogging the kitchen sink on our own over the span of a few days. Boiled hot water, drano, drano gel, removing trap, small store bought snake for drains - to no avail. We finally made the call to Roto-Rooter at about 6:00 p.m. & Eric arrived about an hour or so later. He was very professional, asked us questions, looked at different areas in the finished basement (drop ceiling) to see what type of pipes he was dealing with & help assess the situation. He did have a little trouble with his industrial snake (motorized) but he worked at it until clog was free. He remained on site for quite a while to make sure all was clear. It has been 4 days & I believe we're safe to say all is well. I'm giving all A's to my rating with the exception of price. We thought it was an extremely high rate for maybe 2 hrs total of work from beginning to end. But on the upside we're dealing with a well-known company. I would probably call them again and get quotes from other companies as well.

The whole thing was an ordeal, probably not RotoRooters fault. Day after Christmas sewage backed up into our basement. They responded very promptly and spent about 12 hours snaking and video scoping the sewer line. They were unable to clear the line and reported that there was a root blockage under our driveway that would need to be excavated. Charge was $900 for the clearing attempt with an estimate of $4800 for the excavation. They came back promptly (next day) to do the excavation (still without a usable sewer - no toilets or showers). Conditions were awful. Ground was frozen solid, and then it started to rain hard. They completed the job in the tough conditions, but didn't do a great job. The clean out they installed comes out of the ground crooked and is partly under the driveway, instead of next to the driveway as it should be, so it gets driven over constantly. The filled in hole collapsed repeatedly through the rest of the winter and had to be refilled several times. Don't know whether to blame them for sloppy work or praise them for completing the job with the ground frozen in the pouring rain. In any event, they got us a functioning sewer again. A month later, the second sewer line coming out of the house under the driveway backed up into the basement. Again, couldn't be cleared. The pipe had collapsed. Just coincidental timing, because they were both very old pipes, or 2nd pipe damaged by the heavy machinery fixing the first one? No way to know, but the upside was we hadn't re-paved the driveway yet from the first repair, so at least we didn't have to dig up a new driveway. Second excavation - $5000.

All the plumber had to do was fix a simple dripping tub faucet. I get the quote back and its all of a sudden up to $1,000 of parts and labor. They tried to upsell me a whole new shower valve and when I asked about a slow moving drain didn't even offer to snake it with professional snake. They just added $100 of drain cleaner to the bill. The best part is since they came my tub went from a leak to a not shutting off. Now I have to use the shut off valves just to shower. Unbelievable.

It went as well as anyone could hope.

the technition Enea DeSimone explained what we were seeing iside the pipe via the camera very clearly and used a special sonar probe to determine where the worsr sections of the drainage pie were. UNfortunatlly my cast iron drain pipe was cracked and very deteriorated. He snaked the camera all the way to the sewer. He was very professioal and patient in explaining the damage to my drain.. He spent about 4 hto 5 hours working on the problem He even had his boss come to my house and check out the problem. THey recommended altenatives as to how to best fix the problem. Using the latest and rather expensive equipment and their own experince (both master plumbers) they were quite good at explaining to me what had to be done. If you ever have to have your drains cleared Roto Rooter is my choice based on my experience dealing with them.

Drain clogged, will need to excavate, todays service was mostly exploratory. Snake, camera, wall cutting. Used some sort of wand in the driveway to locate pipes. John and John were very professional and were very kind when they delivered bad news.

They quoted about $400 for a job for which another company quoted about $200. The guy came out and spent more than half-an-hour convincing me about the pricing.

Got it fixed and quickly. Jim Dowding was terrific. Professional and knowledgable. Couldn't ask for any better.

Service went very well. Two servicemen (Apolo and Ed) came, asked about problem and looked over my plumbing situation. They then gave me my estimate.I did think the cost was a bit much but needed the work done. Gave them the ok and went to work. They cleared the drain and made sure all drains were clear. All work done very professionally.

Outstanding! Old house, sewer line never been serviced. trap was located in garage under the concrete floor and was hopelessly outdated. Forced to stay in hotel 1st night with wife and kids but tech was at my place 8 am the next morning and by mid day all was well. These jobs are always expensive no matter who does them so service is always the difference. Enea was knowledgeable, friendly, professional and cleaned up everything upon completion. These events always stink, but when they happen you want a company like this to do the work. Great job all

We had a main sewer line backup on 5/1/2015 at our home in Middletown, RI. I went to Home Depot and rented a 50' power snake to snake the line, as I'd had to do a couple times before. I got the snake almost 50' out, when it hit something. I started running it, and it immediately bound up. After numerous attempts and not really getting it properly clear, I gave up and called roto-rooter. They said they'd be here within an hour, and even though it was 7pm on a Friday, there is no additional charge for odd hours. Jay G (Technician #3712) showed up quickly and we started discussing the issue. Jay was fantastic, he listened when I explained what I'd done, saw the size of the snake I'd used, etc, then gave me a quick flat-rate quote for snaking and scoping. I agreed, and he got his biggest snake out of the truck and the scope,and set to work. He ran into the same blockage, but after a few tries managed to get the snake thru it, although he said it felt odd. He pulled the snake back out, and it was totally clean. So at that point he fed the scope down, while showing me the screen. Around the 50' mark, there was a ball of roots that had broken thru the Orangeburg pipe and was almost completely blocking the drain. He had managed to get his snake to make a small hole in the root ball, so it was draining, but the snake wasn't really clearing because the ball was so big. On the scope we could see that the Orangeburg piping was starting to collapse (50 yrs old, and frankly, google Orangeburg pipe to learn more), so at that point he broke the bad news that we'd probably have to dig it up and replace it. Normally I'd start asking about alternatives, etc, but because Jay had been very open about everything he was doing and it was very clear on the scope, I agreed it looked like replacement was probably going to be necessary. Jay and I went outside and began using the sonde to map out where the line was, so that Jay could get us a quote, etc. Due to where we live, we couldn't get permits on a weekend, but Jay managed to get us scheduled first thing Monday to get the line dug up and replaced. What was awesome was that even though Jay was from Providence, he was very familiar with Middletown and knew exactly what was needed for the job with regards to permits and installation requirements in Middletown, as well as the fact that the town won't issue permits on weekends. A different crew came out Monday and did the full replacement, and did a phenomenal job digging up the pipe carefully (it was in a somewhat tricky location due to a porch being added on to the house). The crew hydro jetted the new pipe and our old cast iron piping that was remaining under the house, as well as installed a backwater valve and cleanout outside, and went up in size from 4" to a 6" pipe since the city sewer connection was already 6". The crew basically started by 9am (after having to wait for the utility companies) and had the yard fantastically graded by 6pm. Another guy named Jay W operated the excavator, and did an amazing job regrading the yard after filling in the trench. They claim they're not landscapers, but their work suggests otherwise :-) . Overall, we're thrilled with how everything turned out. The price was fairly high (if Angie's list lists price, the price listed was for the scope and snake only), but didn't seem at all out of line considering what was involved. The fact that Jay G was so knowledgable and fantastic to deal with, I wouldn't hesitate to call Roto-Rooter again. Based on all the work they did however, I probably won't have to!

I was able to schedule the appointment on line (late at night) for the next morning. I got a call the next morning, telling me when the technician should arrive, and he was reasonably close to the predicted time. He was courteous and hunted down the problem, which was not straightforward. They charge a fixed fee, regardless of the time and effort required. I understand that they know this is to their benefit, but it still is OK with me.

The root of my problem was the build up of septic solids in the main outlet drainage pipe. I just had the septic tank pumped out, but the drain pipe was not draining. So naturally, I called Roto-Rooter (at 7 pm) to bail me out. Service Technician, Jay Gallogly, arrived on the scene within an hour and a half (he was an hour away from my location) and proceeded to diligently snake out the drain pipe. It was not an easy process. First he had to cut out the drain pipe cap to get access, then it took several plunges with the snake to plow thru the blockage. After several plunges and a few toilet flushes, all was well. Tech Jay did well. He explained everything, gave me an upfront cost, did the work well, and cleaned up expeditiously. Extremely helpful, he was. I would call them again in a heartbeat. (hopefully, I'll do better with my septic maintenance so I won't have to bother Roto-Rooter again) - :-)

Very good service. Seemed a bit pricey but it was comparable to other quotes I had received. The difference was I had tried to get two other plumbers in the house and had waited a week to no avail. I called these guys at noon and they were in my house by 3:30 and done by 5:30. Cleaned up well after themselves, they were personable with my wife and kids and the job was A1. Thanks guys!!!!

They did a great job, which took all day. They gave me an estimate, but were very clear about certain costs they couldn't anticipate based on identifying hidden problems, especially with that second tub. They still came in at a reasonable price. Best of all, they were very courteous and willing to show me what needed to be done and why, and explained everything clearly and sensibly. I will call them for any future plumbing issues and I recommend them to anyone who needs a plumber!

The company kept me informed about my appointment and when to expect someone to arrive. Representative was prompt and professional and kept me in the loop along the way. There were no surprises with regard to cost or the work done. Other representatives joined him when more equipment was needed. They came quickly and were equally professional and informative. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to others highly.

Called at 8am on Saturday. Phone call was answered quickly and professionally. Was told that technician would arrive at the house before 10am and that I would receive a phone call 30 minutes before s/he arrived. Got a phone call on my cell (which was the secondary number) at approximately 9:15 which I did not answer because the phone was in another room (I expected the house phone to ring). Got another call at 10:15 saying the technician was leaving another job and was on the way. Technician arrives at 11:45. He was very pleasant, professional. I described everything that we had done, which helped him make an informed decision. He explained what he was going to do, how he was going to do it, and how much it would cost. He was done by approximately 1:15. I was slightly disappointed with the response time (that could be based on a weekend) and the price, but otherwise everything went well.
