JONES MOVING & STORAGE

I called and spoke to a very nice person at the warehouse a few weeks before my scheduled move to get an estimate and find out about the company. I explained that I had an upstairs, two-bedroom apartment in East Providence with one kitchen, living, and dining room as well as a few things in the garage (bins, a wire rack, cooler, a few boxes, etc) and that I was moving to a two-bedroom apartment (split level) about 30 minutes away in Warwick. I explained each piece of furniture, including an antique hutch, vanity, and mirror set, that I had one bed that would need the frame to come apart, and I have two large pieces of artwork that would need to be wrapped. The person at the warehouse said from start to finish I could expect approximately $100 per room, so including the garage I was looking at approximately $600.00, or 6 hours from house to house. I was ok with this, especially because of the reviews I had read on Angie's list about the company. When the day of moving arrived, everything was packed in boxes or bins, with the exception of those things which won't pack (i.e. ficus trees, statues, etc). I should mention that one of the bedrooms only had a bed and chest of drawers in it--all other furniture had been discarded and there were only several boxes in this room. I received a call from the lead driver on moving day about 20 minutes after they were scheduled to arrive. (Mind you, I pay from the moment the truck leaves the warehouse, so I was getting upset.) The man said he was waiting at my house and wondered where I was. I went outside to confirm, but no truck. I explained the address and he apologized, stating that he had it wrong in the system. He said he would need to pack up the truck and come over and I should expect him in about another 30 minutes. When the three guys arrived, the first one explained the insurance policy (if we break it, we'll give you 30 cents per pound--no thanks) and took a walk-through of the apartment and garage. He was very nice, but he explained that he had a slight Dominican accent. I had no problem with this, but the other two continually asked him to repeat himself. Remember, I'm paying by the hour, so this was a little odd for me. The moving process took much longer than the person at the warehouse estimated. It was more than four hours before the truck was loaded. I was starting to get worried because this would put us on schedule for an 8 hour day, which would be $200 more than I had estimated. The truck followed me to West Warwick, and the guys again had "trouble" understanding the lead driver. I started going to the truck and asking to move things myself (boxes, bins, etc) to try to help out. When I asked one of the other movers about it, he said he was contract temp work, paid by the hour, and that he felt bad for me, but was only being paid about $7.00 an hour! Truth be told he was working really hard. The other mover, Al, stopped in the middle of my living room and told me he felt rushed. "Listen," he said, " Don't rush us. That's how someone gets hurt. We didn't even take lunch to get here. So back off." I was completely shocked. The lead driver apologized and said no one had been rushing anyone and that I shouldn't have had to help move bins at all. I called the person I spoke with originally at the warehouse, because I was uncomfortable having this person moving my things after he had been so upset with me in my new apartment. The warehouse manager explained that it was a new "team" in the truck: they had never worked together before and perhaps shouldn't be put together again. Great. At this point, we were past the 7 hour mark, and the truck was not even half unpacked. I had the cable installation man coming, and was wondering if it was possible to have the television set unloaded, but Al ignored me. I asked the lead driver, who looked but said he couldn't find it and would have to get to it as soon as possible. The nice man from Cox arrived and when I explained the situation, said it was no problem and did other work in the neighborhood. When the TV did emerge from the truck, the movers were having such trouble putting it on the stand, the technician from Cox and I ended up placing it ourselves. By the time we hit 8 hours for moving, I stopped caring where things were placed and just wanted my furniture off the truck. I asked if all the rest of the bins could be left on the front or back lawn and I would move the rest of them myself, as I knew I would have a hard time affording over $900 for service. I asked to have the two large pieces of artwork left wrapped, beds unassembled, dressers left in pieces, all to save time. I asked that everything, even the large bins be stacked in the living room so I could drag them upstairs myself after the truck left. When all was finished, it had been 9.5 hours (not including the time the truck was at the wrong address) and the lead driver came in for payment. I called the warehouse to explain that this was not at all as I had been expecting, and how upset I was that one of the workers told me he was a temp hire from Able Body Workers and one didn't want to be "rushed." The person at the warehouse told me that "as a courtesy, he would only charge me 7.5 hours, and not wait until the truck arrived back at the warehouse, which was when I was supposed to stop paying." I was frustrated at having to pay $150 more than I expected, but the men were waiting for my check, so I paid them. My new landlord even remarked how he didn't understand how so much was stacked in one place when they were here for so long. I am sure other people had great experiences with this moving company, but I did not. My opinion is that you should have movers who work for the company (not temporary hires) and that a "lunch break" should be built in--and paid for by the company. For example, if they are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. they work until, say, 1:00 (costing $300) and then they break until, say, 2:00 and continue until 5:00 (another $300). This way there would be no complaints to the customer that they "didn't even stop for lunch." For the same $750 I could have rented my own truck and hired a CREW of my friends to come and help me--at $100 EACH!! My friends would STILL have made more than the temp-worker mover who made a total of about $70.00 for his 10 hours of work! Absolutely ridiculous. If you use this company, plan on at least two hours more of work than is estimated and INSIST on a crew that knows what they are doing!

Guys arrived on time. After the paperwork was signed, they got to work right away. Completed work on time and within expected budget.

They did a great job! Very professional, punctual, reliable, great communication. Also best price out of 3 companies called.

The truck arrived ten minutes early and the men went straight to work. We asked them not to open the bathroom door because we had contained our cats in there. Not only did they respect that, but one of the men waited til we arrived at the second location before asking to use the bathroom so he wouldn't disrupt out pets. All of the men were very polite and professional. They even helped us to figure out how to best arrange our large bedroom furniture in a smaller bedroom than we previously had. We are extremely happy with the service we received from Jones and wouldn't hesitate to contact them again in the future.

I requested three movers (I've moved many times), they sent three great guys. On time, polite, professional, accomodating. Moving is no fun, but they made it as pleasant as it could be. I hope to never move again, but if I do, it will be with Jones. I have sung their praises for the past two days to anyone who asks "how was your move?"

I found Jones Moving and Storage during a search on Angie's List, and I'm very glad I did. They were able to fit me into their schedule on fairly short notice, which I appreciated right off the bat. I dealt with Mike on the phone, and as others on Angie's List have reported, he was very courteous, informative and helpful. While this was only the contents of a studio apartment being moved, with only one large piece of furniture, there were a lot of small pieces and lots of boxes -- and it was the FOURTH FLOOR, with no elevator. But the three movers from Jones worked steadily from the time they arrived, and emptied the place in good time. In addition, they were appropriately friendly in a courteous, professional manner. When we arrived at the destination, things went even more quickly, as it was the ground floor, with no stairs to deal with. I had called quite a few different movers to get quotes, and while Jones wasn't the cheapest, they were only a few dollars per hour more than the least expensive, and less than several others, and there were no surprise charges tacked on. The final cost was in line with the quote, and quite reasonable. I can't imagine any of the other movers doing a better job. All in all, I am very satisfied with the job they did, and would not hesitate to use them again.

I found them through Angie?s List and they were great. Everything about them was good. They were very cordial, very polite and very efficient. They didn?t damage anything.

Mike was very friendly, helpful, professional and provided valid honest reasons why he could not support me with my move needs at this time. I felt his professionalism noteworthy. He was not able to assist me but I felt if it was something he could do he would have, and I would have felt comfortable working with him. My needs were just not a good fit for him at this time.

Everything went fine. I lived on the third floor, and they hauled a lot of stuff. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

the crew --Rob, Joe, and Kyle-- arrived about half an hour late, but they called to say that they were running late. Once they arrived, they sized up our stuff, figured how best to load it into the truck, and started moving. We had some large pieces of furniture and were moving from one apartment up a twisting stairwell to another apartment up a twisting stairwell, so they had to stop periodically to assess how to proceed. But they managed to make everything fit. The whole crew worked really hard and they were all pleasant and professional, even though it wasn't easy hauling heavy things up to the 3rd floor. it ended up taking 7 hours, which was longer than I had expected, and probably longer than they had expected, too. But they never complained and were a pleasure to be around. I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

I chose this company because of the positive reports on this site. The 3 guys that moved us were great - punctual, polite professional and fast without being careless. This was not an easy move going up and down several flights of steep stairs with heavy boxes and furniture, but they worked as a team and got the job done. There were some boxes that were awkward which my husband & I were going to move in our cars later, but they offered to take everything - with no problems. A major move can be very stressful, but these guys had us breathing a sigh of relief!

They worked hard when they showed up. They were little bit late but that is to be expected. The previous engagement that they ran over but they called me and let me know that they would be later than their scheduled times. I would use them in the future.

The guys they sent (3) were really polite and careful with our stuff. They did a lot of extra work (taking apart furniture/reassembly) to get stuff up around a tight staircase to the 3rd floor. We helped a lot and had a lot of fun joking around/working together. They moved a whole house of furniture from one side of providence to another for around $700 and nothing broken or lost. I hope we NEVER move again since it is such a pain, but if we do definitely would go with Jones.

The three guys were curteous and professional. They certainly earned their pay on this move. The cost ended up being a little higher than expected but likely due to the cumbersome unloading setup at the condo building.

I called for an estimate for a full pack and move from RI to PA. A representative came over to the house the following day to look over our house and the contents. He was very professional and gave me some good tips on packing and what to expect. After the evaluation, he said that he would email me the estimate in a few days. I never got an email, so I called the following week and spoke to the representative again. He stated that he was still working on the estimate and that I should have it by the end of the day. Unfortunately, I never got the estimate and ended up going with Arpin Van Lines who gave me an estimate right on the spot.

The day before the move I fell and hurt my back and leg so I was useless and had not finished packing. The three crew members were wonderful. They worked efficiently and with care. They were concerned about me and how I was doing. They were concerned about the placement of our furniture and all of the boxes. My husband and I are thrilled with the service and professionalism. I would recommend Jones to anyone and also use them again.

From the first phone call to Jones, I knew they were a good outfit. The gentlemen who gave the estimate was honest and frank about the time needed. The movers came a little early and worked hard. They emptied out my one-bedroom apartment in an hour and 10 minutes. The move into the new place was even faster. The movers themselves were dressed in official Jones t-shirts and were pleasant to talk to. My only complaint is with myself for not packing everything (I didn't know they would take bags, crates and even laundry baskets) and for not labeling boxes accurately. Word to the wise, make it easy on yourself and label!

From the initial phone call, everyone I dealt with was very courteous and friendly. The estimate was almost half of another quote I received, and the pricing structure was very straightforward and simple: number of men per hour times number of hours. On the scheduled day, the movers arrived on time and really hustled, loading and unloading the truck very quickly. They were very friendly and professional throughout. Overall, an excellent experience. I would definitely use them again.

The three men who moved my apartment were friendly, professional, and really cared that my stuff was handled properly. The morning they were scheduled to arrive they called to confirm everything... I still had to figure out what to do with the clothes in my closet... the man who called me offered to bring "wardrobe boxes". Not only did the boxes totally save the day, but one of the men actually transferred my entire closet into the boxes before I had even finished packing up my refrigerated stuff into my cooler. They were just great.

They were amazing - on time, really pleasant to work with. They worked hard all day, didn't stop for breaks except for a quick lunch (which I think they ate on the road, they got to the new house so fast), and it was a really hot day. They were so considerate and careful, they moved a pretty packed 3 bedroom house and not a thing was damaged. Nothing! Amazing.

Greg and his team of three arrived on time and we could not fault them! They were prompt, courteous, and tidy. We've used a lot of movers over the years, and this was the best. Will use again.

The guys were wonderful! Very helpful and attentive to her belongings. Asked questions about where to put things instead of just dropping them any old place. They even moved a couple of items when she changed her mind about the location of them. They were polite, and couldn't have been more caring about my mom's stuff. The whole experience was much better than I could have hoped for!

They had very good rating on Angie's List and they were terrific. Originally we had gotten rid of a lot of the things in the house so what we were pretty much moving was furniture from my brother's new place and my parents' dining room set. A few other pieces were coming to me in Massachusetts. It was a bit more complicated move than usual. My brother had to move to one location, my stuff went to storage until the truck was coming up to Massachusetts. The moved cost $700 for my brother and $400 for me which included storage. We wanted to get the move done for my brother in one day as he was working nights and we did. It was a 2 story house and the guys got everything loaded, stuff in the basement like the washer dryer had to go as well. They had everything packed up in the morning and we told them "okay, lets have lunch and then meet you there" and they said "no, we are going right to the house" and they did and they got everything done by mid afternoon. It was terrific and they did a great job. They were little late, apparently they had to unload the truck from the night before, before they could come out so they were about an hour late. This was my first experience and this is why I signed up for Angie's List because I did not know where to go in Rhode Island to find information on movers and I had read about Angie's List and I said "okay, this is the perfect opportunity to see if this is useful or not" and it did turn out to be extremely useful.

Excellent experience. They were able to move us on a busy holiday weekend with roughly a week's notice. The crew was polite, cheerful and efficient in spite of having to move in miserable weather and some tricky staircases/access doorways in our new place.
