Smart Choice Appliance Repair

We came home from being out of town for a few days and found the frig warm. At that time, the freezer was still working. The next day the freezer stopped. This company came in 2 days. They were prompt and courteous.

I contacted Smart Choice after finding them on Angies List because my freezer was melting ice and the fridge was 60 degrees up top and frozen solid on the bottom. The technician/owner showed up promptly the next morning and replaced the motor which instantly cured the problem and within 12 hours both the fridge and the freezer were working perfectly. I lost food from the fridge but not from freezer because I was able to move food to a container in the garage where the temperature was below freezing. While the technician was working on my freezer I mentioned that my washing machine was not completing the spin cycle properly and clothes were dripping wet at the end of the cycle. I was able to get the clothes properly spun by manually turning to the spin cycle manualy one or more times. "I know what that is!" he said and promptly vanished into the basement for about a half hour. He then appeared with the faulty transmission from the washer and a beaming face and said, " I have one of these in my truck." Another half hour and the washer was spinning to perfection. Since my wife and I had determined that we would have to shell out $1,200.00 to replace the 9 year old side by side refridgerator and freezer and live with a cranky washer until the budget was flush enough to replace it, the total of $650.00 seemed like a birthday present.The only reason that this is not a study in perfection was that, within a week, the washer was doing the same soggy thing with the clothes. A call to Smart Choice came up the phone diagnosis that the replacement transmission must have been faulty. But, not to worry, it was under warranty and a new one could be here in one or two days and there would be no charge for reinstallation. To answer my question he said it would be a brand new transmission because Whirlpool did not do rebuilds on transmissions and neither did he.It came today and the clothes are being washed with a satisfying "clunk" at the start of the spin cycle which is the clutch throwing a bar that reverses the spin of the tub so that the washer turns one way for washing and rinsing and in the reverse for the spinning! I am "clunking" happy with the Smart Choice outfit and the technician/owner!

He came in and diagnosed our problem with the washer, ordered the part, came back and fixed it. It was hard for him to get the part for the washer right before Christmas but after the holidays he came in right away and installed the part. Will be using him again in the future.

My bottom-line question answered, with no cost to me. Perfect.

Promptly returned my call and set up appt, Identified and fixed the problem quickly, coils needed replacing. Also fixed the exhaust hose that a previous company did not have on correctly and also replaced a pulley that was causing the dryer to make noises. Very satisfied with the service and I am happy that I have finally found someone that I feel I can trust with appliance repair.

He told me to call a plumber to look at the water lines to the ice maker. He said to call him if the plumber wasn't able to fix the problem. He was prompt, pleasant, and did a good job. In fact, he just called to ensure that the problem was fixed.

I called this company because they had good reviews on Angie's List. My dryer wasn't working properly, so I asked him to come out and look at it. I also asked him to give me an estimate on a burner on my stove that had never worked right. I inherited the stove when I bought my house, and once the burner was turned on, it wouldn't shut off. So I secured the knob with tape, and was never able to use it. He gave me an estimate on the dryer of about $300 so I decided to price new and used dryers instead. I mentioned that my washing machine also didn't seem to be working right, and he first suggested I check the warranty before he did any work on it. The next time he came back, I told him the warranty had expired, and he ran the machine to test it for me. It seemed to run OK, so he gave me suggestions for how to resolve the problems I was having. He could have charged me for even looking at the machine, but he didn't. To me, a little customer service like that goes a long way! When he checked my stove burner, he told me that it was a good thing I had the knob taped off because it could potentially come on by itself, and could burn out the stove (my paraphrasing). I asked him to repair the stove because I was concerned about fire. He ordered a new part, came back and replaced it, but the stove light wouldn't turn off. He ordered that part as well, with no additional charge, and came back a few days later to install it. The stove now works great. He was honest with me about every appliance - weighing the costs with the benefits of repair, which I really appreciated. He was also very professional, always calling me when he was on his way over and always arriving on time. I didn't get estimates from other companies, but the pricing seemed reasonable to me and he went above and beyond for me. I definitely plan to use this company again and would recommend them!

We had some problems with our Whirlpool dishwasher and got in touch with Ed @ Smart Choice. He responded right away and scheduled an appointment to come out the following afternoon. Within 15 minutes he identified the problem, called in to get a part quote and provided an estimate on the spot. It took a couple days for the part to arrive but as soon as it did, they were back in touch and at our house the following day. The dishwasher is working like new. I highly recommend Ed and the team a Smart Choice.

They were puncutual, efficient and tidy. The machanic informed me how much it would be to repair. He also advised me that if the part runs under 3 amps it was worth repairing and if it ran higher the part would fail and I would need an new compressor. At that point, he said if I need the new compressor it wasn't worth repairing. He installed the part and it worked well.

We noticed water leaking in our refrigerator. I called Smart Choice and someone came that afternoon. He found a valve which was plugged up and repaired it. I was very pleased and would definitely use them again.

They answered the telephone the first time I called and set up an appointment. Arrived on time and gave an estimate. I chose to have the work done. It was completed immediately and in a timely manner. Estimate was accurate. Serviceman was friendly and professional.

Called Smart Choice Appliance Repair. Responded quickly to my message and came the next day. Determined the problem. I decided to have it fixed. The service call fee was waived because I was having it repaired. Said he would have the part by Friday of the same week. Called Thursday to say he already had the part and could he come to fix it. He came, fixed it, tested it and told me to call if there was any problem that came up. The dryer is working fine. He was very courteous and professional. Would recommend him to anyone and will certainly call on him again if there is a need.

He was prompt and courteous when I called, came the next day and finished the job quickly without a hitch.

Well, Ed is just a wonderful man. He couldn't have been nicer. I called in the morning and he came in the afternoon. So fast! And he called beforehand too. the 169.00 estimate over the phone was just what he charged. There was a complication with the water line, but Ed fixed it for an extra 30.00 dollars. He was very polite, and never got aggravated. He also taught me a great deal about appliances. He made a very unpleasant situation ( dead refrigerator) into a relaxed and easy fix. I like him and would call him again.

My oven had stopped lighting. The technician came and diagnosed the problem as being the internal computer. He was able to locate a replacement. However, the price of the repair was quite high ($400+) and he recommended we replace the unit instead (Smart Choice does not sell appliances).

Ed responded to my phone call the same day and made an appointment to come out the following day. He diagnosed the problem but was not able to repair at that time since my wash tub was in the way and needed a plumber to remove. Ed called a plumber he does business with who came out the same evening and removed the tub and capped the pipe. His charge was very reasonable. Ed was able to come back the following day to install the part and got my washing machine working again. Because he wasn't able to repair it the first time he came out, it cost me an additional $49 for the service call or my bill would only have been $139. However, that was not his fault, so overall, it was a good experience, and I would definitely use him again and recommend him to others.

WE were happy with his explanation and service. The machine has been fine for a month now.

I've actually used this company twice. The first time was in Dec 09. My refrigerator stopped working, and I searched Angie's List for appliance repairmen. I called Ed, and he was extremely friendly. He explained that he would charge $49 to come out but that would be applied should I choose to have him fix the issue. I agreed and he came out right away. My compressor was the issue but he said that there might be a chance that replacing the starter ( I think that's what it's called) might work. He did the work and that did in fact restart the compressor. The final cost was about $70. On Friday May 28th, my refrigerator stopped working again. I called Ed that evening and just like the first time, he was very friendly and helpful despite me calling as he was about to have dinner. He told me could come Saturday morning but he had a few appointments ahead of me. Instead of just having me wait for the appointment he offered to help me troubleshoot the issue over the phone. He instructed me to unplug the refrigerator and plug it back in after 2 hours to see if it was a possible hot spot issue. He explained everything in great detail and in plain English. The problem was that after 2 hours it was 11 pm but he encouraged me to call him late anyway, so he could know if I was ok. If it did fix it, he wouldn't charge me! Amazing! Unfortunately it didn't work and he was at my home the next morning right on time. My compressor was beyond fixing, but he was nothing less than helpful and beyond professional. This company goes above and beyond, and Ed is nothing but class.

I was very happy because it was a gas dryer and I was afraid to run it after it had been smoking but at the same time didn't want to spend the money for a new one if I didn't have to. I was thrilled he could come the same day and on the weekend! He was wonderful, fast, courteous!

Excellent. I called Smart Choice to make an appointment for an estimate, and Ed answered the phone personally and said that he would be able to stop by shortly because he would be in our area. He arrived when he said he would, gave me an estimate for the work to be done and we scheduled a tentative time for the actual replacement after the gasket was ordered. Ed was always right on target with the costs involved and showed up exactly when he said he would. He also educated me on how the gaskets on our refrigerator should be treated so they last longer. A very good experience, and I will definitely use Ed again when we need any of our appliances repaired.

Repair was excellent (it is an older model), gave me price prior to ordering, and came back as soon as he received the new parts. Very polite, and punctual.

Not to be repetitive, but this was an excellent experience. Ed was responsive from the minute I called, explained things clearly, and fixed my problem in a very short period of time for a very fair price. Then, he took it upon himself to follow up when he was under no obligation to do so. I recommend this company without hesitation.

The company that sold us the oven wanted $160. Just to come out and look at the problem. Called around and then I got the bright idea to go online to Angie's list. I joined right then and there and called Smart Choice. We got a live person, not an answering machine and he came right out that afternoon. ($39.) It took a few visits to pinpoint the problem, but he did not want to order an expensive part if that was not the solution. We finally pinpointed the problem. He ordered the part, called as soon as it came in, came over at my convenience and installed it. The $39 charge was deducted from the price. I would definitely call them again. This is a highline appliance and he certainly knew what he was doing.
