+ -1 morehe replaced something on the washer, and it has been working as good as new. while he was here i mentioned i was going to need a new cooktop since some of my knobs did not work properly. he took a look at it, made a few phone calls and ordered me new knobs, and saved me from having to buy a new cooktop!

+ -1 moreAs it turned out the heater was broken causing ice to accumulate in the refrigerator which caused the motor to burn out. My refrigerator was really warm. I went to Lowes and Home Depot and they indicated that I should probably get a new one. I went to Lowes and Home Depot and they indicated that I should probably get a new one. I found Smart Choice on Angie’s List. He came out right away and he was quick and professional. It needed a part and he got the part 2 days later. I was very, very impressed. It was excellent. The price was reasonable and he knew what he was talking about. He explained the whole procedure and what he was doing. The refrigerator has been great ever since.

The home's washing machine broke down unexpectedly and, for various reasons, its repair or replacement was needed ASAP. I'm an Angie's List member in the city where I live 400 miles away from Providence. So, I went online , joined AL locally, and located Smart Choice Appliance Repair. I gave them a call and they were out within 24 hours to service the machine. The work was done quickly and efficiently, and the bill was very reasonable.

+ -1 moreSmart Choice scheduled an appointment that was timely but convenient to my schedule. They were here on time; quickly diagnosed the problem, and offered sound advice. We ended up purchasing a new microwave because we needed it a.s.a.p. We were totally satisfied with Smart Choice.
Description of Work: Microwave was not heating up. Smart Choice diagnosed the magnatron was not working properly. Advised we would have to replace (costly) or purchase a new microwave.

He did not have one of the bulbs he needed in his truck, so he left for a short time and went to a local store to buy what he needed. He returned and completed the repair. While he was gone, it gave me the opportunity to clean areas of the microwave that I otherwise wouldn't have been able to reach. The serviceman was knowledgeable, friendly, punctual and professional. I would not hesitate to call him again for an appliance repair or to recommend him to others.

+ -1 moreMy washing machine started leaving a puddle on the floor. I called this company after seeing their reviews on Angie`s. They gave me a one hour window for my appointment. Usually it is a four hour window from companies like this. Their fee for showing up and diagnosing the problem was only $49. On the phone they asked me what what appliance and brand I wanted fixed. They showed up on time. They had the washer apart in minutes and diagnosed the problem. It was a leak in the water pump. They asked if I wanted to have it fixed, advised it was a common problem and had the part in the truck. I advised them to make the repair. They had it fixed in less than an hour. They ran a few tests to make sure it didnt leak. I rated the price B because there is no standard for rating prices. This was a very expensive Maytag washer. $223 is a lot cheaper than replacing the washer.

+ -1 moreMy washing machine was making a horrible sound and not agitating-which was a real problem with all the clothes, etc. that we have to wash at our house. I contacted Smart Choice and the phone was answered quickly and professionally. The repairman was available to come out the next day. As promised he called me when he was 15-20 away and well within the window of time promised. He diagnosed the problem in 10 seconds, literally. We had a defective motor coupling and needed agitator dogs. He was very neat, laying down a towel on which to place damp parts and completed the repair within 45 minutes. He was clearly very experienced and familiar with our Whirlpool washer (new the years of manufacture, etc.). He carefully replaced every item he had to move to get to the washer and took the time to level it correctly once he was finished. I was extremely pleased with every aspect of this repair experience.

+ -1 moreAs decribed above - prompt, cheerful, very knowledgeable technician. He gave me a fridge magnet which I actually placed on the side of my fridge because Smart Choice is now my go-to appliance repair.
Description of Work: The refrigerator was leaking all over kitchen floor off & on for a few weeks. I actually thought it might be the dishwasher leaking - really did not know where all the water was coming from. Service call was available same day - he diagnosed the problem as a frozen valve in the bottom freezer of the fridge which would freeze and block the auto-defrost cycle, did extensive work to unfreeze the line, and added a heating unit of some kind to make sure this didn't happen again. All this for about $130 which I thought was very fair.

The repair was completed within two hours and Ed was on his way and I was a able to get back to work. I would not hesitate to call him again and I highly recommend his services.

He explains clearly what the problem is and what it will cost to repair. After he has repaired the appliance, he tests it to insure the appliance is working properly. Kudos and thanks to Ed Ramos!
Description of Work: Our Maytag Nepture washer was either not spinning after the wash cycle or spinning on an intermittent basis. Our washed clothing was wet and took too long to dry. Ed Ramos, the owner of Smart Choice, returned our initial call to him promptly and arranged a time and date for an appointment. He called before he arrived and was punctual. His diagnostic method was excellent and scientific. It was very clear that he is highly experienced and knowledgeable. He located the problem quickly by testing the switches and a controller unit. He ordered them on the spot from Maytag in New York and advised us of both the best case and worst case for delivery of the parts and subsequent repair. The parts arrived late on a Friday afternoon and he was back on Monday to complete the repairs. He tested the stacked Maytag washer/dryer to insure it was working properly on all cycles. Mr. Ramos exceeded our expectations in every regard. He is professional, experienced, methodical, honest and very straight forward. He has excellent interpersonal skills which compliment his technical expertise. I manage an eleven unit condominium complex which has a separate laundry and units with washers, dryers and the usual appliances. Mr. Ramos will be on the top of my list for service!

+ -1 moreThe washing machine would not spin. I looked at it myself and figured out that the coupler was broken. I called and left a message about 4pm. and someone called me back in 1/2 hour. He said it would cost 149.00 if nothing else was wrong. We made an appt. for the next day.They called to confirm when they would arrive and came on time. The Technican was very professional and found that the pump was leaking slightly and explained that it would cost more and the pros & cons of each option. We decided to replace the pump as well and he was able to repair it on the spot without a return trip.We were very pleased overall.

They were very pleasant. They gave me a time before he came and he called when he was on his way to let me know when he would actually be here. He was a very pleasant person. + -1 moretI called Smart Choice after finding them on Angie's list. I explained my situation and he was extremely accommodating and came out the same day. He proceeded to examine the machine. The diagnosis was that it would be too expensive to repair; the transmission was broken. I asked if he could recommend a local appliance store where I might be able to quickly find an appliance. He recommended Lee's Appliance Store in Coventry. I went, found a machine, and had one delivered two days later.I was very happy with how quickly Smart Choice responded, the honesty and knowledge shown; but I was a little discouraged that I still had to pay the $49.99 even though nothing was done, and it was recommended that it would be better to purchase a new machine. I knew ahead of time that if I didn't have them do the repair, I would still have to pay the fee. I would use them again for appliance repairs.
Description of Work: My washing machine stopped spinning. Smart Choice came, examined the machine, advised me that it would be almost as expensive to repair the machine as to purchase a new one. So he gave me the choice of having the machine repaired or not (I would still have to pay the fee).

+ -1 moreI had called Smart Choice when my freezer was getting warm. He suggested that I vacuum the underneath at the grill vent. He stated that often took care of the issue and it did. I was impressed because some other company may have made it a service call and charge me for something I easily took care of myself. Our ice maker had not been working for sometime. Since I was impressed with my first contact with the company I called to make the repair. He was prompt and courteous and gave us a very fair price. He was also very punctual. One of the issues was the water line to the refridgerator. He suggested a plumber for us and we were equally impressed with him as well. Very punctual and a great price. I will be using Smart Choice for any future appliance repair.

+ -1 moreI called Smart Choice and explained the problem with the refrigerator. He came the next day and made the necessary repairs. He also examined the refrigerator and gave me some information on it---(I had just bought the house and had assumed the appliances were new). Ed told me the refrigerator was a) used, b) about 10 years old, c) most likely the incorrect compressor had been "jury-rigged" into place. He voiced his concerns about the compressor, and then recommended that should the unit completely die that I should buy a new one. He was prompt, courteous and very helpful. I will definitely use him again.
Description of Work: Freezer compartment was not adequately freezing. He fixed fan which was not working as well as adjusting the manner in which the refrigerator was standing (it was tilted too far forward, causing doors not to close properly. He also examined appliance and gave me future recommendations on repair
