Plumber was scheduled to arrive between12-2pm and call 30 min before arriving. He did not show by 2 and I received no call to say that he would be late. I called to check and they said 2:30 since he's running late. He was not here by 3 so I called again. He finally arrived at 3:15. My husband took off work and wasted time. I really value punctuality so this was a big let down. They should have called to say they would be late. He stated it would be $1050 for a new tank. We wanted to say no but were stuck (and they know that) so we got it done. I feel it's a ridiculous price since the units only cost $350-450. We had already drained the 40 gal of water also so he just had to switch the tank. He asked if I was given pricing over the phone - no. If I was, I wouldn't have had them come. They also charge $49 just to come out. That's fine but I feel they should remove that fee if services are performed. $35 to take the tank out - really? They even left the door off of the water heater when they left - wires hanging out. I found the door on a random shelf downstairs. They also charged $199 for the steam boiler inspection and $99 per vent. $99 per vent? We shouldn't have gotten those replaced. I'm sure we could have ordered and changed them ourselves. We got the $20 Angie's List coupon deducted but they wouldn't also accept the $10 online coupon. I'm sure that $10 would put them out of business. ---- Now that I remember, we had Phillips also run a gas line to our gas fireplace a few years ago. At that time, when they were done and left... they left the gas line open! Gas was pouring into the house for hours and we weren't feeling well. Luckily, my husband came home from work, smelled it when he walked in and we fixed it.

We pride ourselves on arriving promptly as booked. Unfortunately 12-2 is our third time frame and the other calls may have taken longer than anticipated. This sometimes happens, our phone staff does remember keeping you updated. We do not give prices over the phone, but always do for water heaters if asked . Our promise is to give straightforward pricing before we start any work and get the customers okay by signature when possible. We start the work with the customer okay. Yes a water heater is in that range, what we pay for is wages, trucks, insurances, and on and on . If the work on either date was unsatisfactory , a call to the office could solve any issues. These comments are not are usual for our company . For over 30 years we have put the customers needs and satisfaction our NUMBER 1 priority.

I scheduled service for a faulty shower over a week ago and gave Phillips some dates that would work for me. We scheduled a mutually-convenient time which was July 3. I get a call from Phillips on July 2, a day before service, (service scheduled for July 3rd which I took time off from work to be at home) to say they had an emergency job and couldn't get to my house until Monday, July 7. I need my shower fixed before the 4th of July weekend because I have guests coming in. To call a client the day before for a "plumbing" fix that was scheduled in advance and before a major holiday is clearly bad business and totally unacceptable.
Description of Work: Absolutely nothing but be a major disappointment and a hassle to me.

When I called it was told to me that it would be a $49 charge to come out to check the system and give an estimate for any work. If this visit was to cost more thasn $49 he was to tell me first. I told him this. Well. he charged me $200 without telling me that it was costing more for this visit He didn't even check all the item listed on the form for an "extensive diagnostics". We tried to give him the Angie's list coupon while he was writing it up and he refused, stating that, he had already started the form! When I called to question where my proposal for service was and about the difference in service charge. I got no where. I was told if I used them for this proposal they would give some discount ( unspecified)

We did not charge a dispatch fee for this visit. The 49$ charge is our dispatch fee for this zip code . The 20$ coupon for Angie's List customers is only on the dispatch fee. When it comes to heating issues and troubleshooting , it is difficult to diagnose issues immediately. The 199$ that was charged to you was for extensive diagnostics, which means the technician spent over an hour to diagnose all the issues. We then sent out a detailed estimate for all issues found. As a company we need to let customers seeking heating issues that extra diagnostics charges may be incurred. I am truly sorry that you had a negative experience.

We hired Phillips Plumbing after we discovered only days after moving into our newly-purchased home that there was a massive leak in our shower. Our inspector failed to thoroughly test the shower head. Phillips Plumbing (Bernie, in particular) troubleshooted the entire problem. He took a conservative approach going step by step so that he didn't need to open our hallway wall. Our shower doesn't have an access panel, so opening the wall would have meant that we'd have a big hole in our hallway. He ultimately discovered that our shower head was never threaded at all! He threaded the shower head and even replaced our hot/cold knob and calked it himself! He did need to open the wall but only around the shower head itself. He gave us advice on how to fix that as well as the stain on our kitchen ceiling from the leak. This was the second time we had called Phillips Plumbing. We called them initially the first night we moved into the home when one of our pipes cracked. Linda answered the phone when I called at 9:30pm on a Saturday night! She was so kind and helpful. Her husband, John, was at our home to fix the problem within an hour. This company is incredibly responsive, and you can tell that they take pride in their work. I highly recommend them!!!

I was very happy with the service. It was not an urgent matter, but I called first thing in the morning, and they had someone out to me that day. They sent a technician first to investigate the problem, and then brought in a second person that afternoon to do the snaking. They were very conscious of the age of the house and pipes, and took an approach to minimize the risk of any problems. I was very impressed by that aspect. I dinged them a little bit on the Responsiveness, because they just showed up at the house without calling me first like they said they were going to. And then it took me a few tries to get them to send me a receipt for my records. But otherwise, I was very satisfied with the outcome and will keep them on speed dial for any future plumbing work.

The work was done well, with the city inspector being very impressed. Due to some unexpected employee changes there was a little hiccup in the scheduling which Phillips worked hard to deal with and I would not expect this problem again. I would absolutely use their services again and have recommended them to friends and family.

Started this process by getting estimates from 3-4 separate qualified and respected local plumbing services in approx. mid-Aug. From the outset, we had a feeling that this provider was going to be considered among our final choices not only because this was the first and the promptest vendor to respond. Even before contacting vendors I read as much info as I could find on the web about replacing a steam boiler and I had prepared my own estimate the size of the boiler required based upon the # of radiators, their size, etc. However, I was very pleasantly surprised when Mr. John Phillips the owner of this company showed up to prepare an estimate. Not only was he prompt and courteous but he spent time with me (between 1-2 hrs in total) explaining in detail the process he would utilize to prepare his estimate, including measuring all of my radiators, inspecting my boiler, and patiently outlining the option/process of obtaining an interest free HEAT loan for this work as well as a RISE energy efficiency inspection of my home. I was unaware of this latter process and was grateful for the info that he provided. No other vendors came close to providing as thorough and complete estimate. This overall estimate for the scope of the work outlined was also very competitive. We made our decision to utilize this vendor approx. one-two months after the initial visit and from that point onward the scheduling was dependent not only on this vendor but also on RISE and the credit union we choose to administer the interest free HEAT loan. This vendor was terrific in coordinating the work. We were told exactly the installation date, how long it would take and what to expect. They coordinated delivery of the new boiler, removal of the old one along with the oil storage tank. BTW, since I had an auto delivery of oil left over from the previous heating season, I was in no great hurry to dispose of approx. $600 of heating oil that I could no longer use. Phillips was more than receptive to my request to utilize as much of this as possible before proceeding with this installation. As it turned out the schedule worked out conveniently for all although I did get the sense that the vendor would have been willing to accommodate a request from me to change installation dates within reason. The installation went as scheduled but it did require some coordination with the gas company to come and upgrade the gas meter in our home. Perhaps this could have been done completed and scheduled prior to the installation. Excellent communication with the personnel who did the installation as well as with the staff as a follow-up for installation follow-up, final inspections, bill payment, and rebate paper work. Highly recommend this organization.

We purchased a home in Providence RI in Jan of 2013. During our inspection the boiler clearly need replacing. Over the course of the summer I got seven quotes to replace the boiler, some cheap some expensive and some down right IDIOTIC! Phillips plumbing was a pleasure to deal with, professional office staff gray techs and really awesome workmanship. They installed our new boiler converting from oil to gas and removing the oil tank from our basement. All the workers were conscious of keep the mess down and making sure everything was to our satisfaction before they left. The installation was really really nice work. I'm a mechanically minded person and a bit of a geek and the quality of the installation made me really happy. We had a minor issue with the system a couple weeks after the install, it was an issue with the boiler itself NOT their work, they sent someone out within an hour of calling. It was also the same tech that had done the install so he was not only familiar with the job but made my wife more comfortable seeing a familiar face in the house. These guy were not the cheapest quote I got but the quality of their work and the honest and really spot on communication was well worth the small premium we payed for them to do the work. I hope when you need plumbers you're lucky enough to stumble across an outfit as good as these guys.

I bought a sink to be installed in our basement, reviewed the work with the John Phillips, the owner - advising him how I wanted the installation done, received and approved a quote and directed the work to begin. When I returned home from work after the first day, I found the job had not been done as directed. The sink was not hung simply on the wall - the plumbers crew had built an unattractive wall and hung the sink on it. The plumbing drain connection was installed so as to unnecessarily take up additional space in an already crowd area. I called the owner, advised him of the problem and he agreed to rectify the problem. His crew came back and begrudgingly removed their work. They were angry and unpleasant at the task. I then personally mounted two 4"x4" posts for use in mounting the sink and explained where and how I expected them to install it. When I next returned from work, I found the sink mounted contrary to my instructions. I again called John Phillips, but had no response. I took pictures of the unit's installation and emailed them to him, requesting a call - still no response. I called Phillips' office and spoke to his wife Linda, who promised to have her husband call back - still no response. NINE MONTHS later I received a bill from Linda with a note saying she'd overlooked mailing it earlier - as though there had never been a problem, nor a failure to communicate. On prior occasions, I had found this company to be responsive, but very expensive. Other than John Phillips, who previously behaved very gentlemanly, we found their employees to be people we'd rather not have in the house.

Mike came out and was on time. Very professional and friendly.Made sure nobody needed to use the water before he shut it off to do the work. When he was finished, he checked every sink and shower to make sure everything was working properly and that there were no clogged pipes. He also was very informative about how I should not use draino in the drains because its an older home and could corrode the pipes.
Description of Work: I had a minor leak in a pipe in the basement. They sent a technician out to evaluate within the hour and I was told that the piping was galvanized steel and wasn't even supposed to have water running thru it. They gave me a quote and I got a second opinion but ultimately went back to Phillips because of the professionalism and thoroughness of the technician. They changed all the galvanized pipes to PVC? which actually made my water pressure much better as well.

When the leaks first happened here over a month ago, there was only one of them. I put a bucket under it, which sat on top of my washer, and started calling plumbers. I live in a very remote, extremely isolated area; 5 different ( impolite, cranky) plumbers refused to even come out here, two of them wanted 3 figures just to show up and give me an estimate, whether they did the work or not !! I got depressed & disgusted enough finally that I finally came onto Angie's List to find my plumber. First phone call got me a plumber who, when I said I needed a written estimate, said "Oh we don't do THAT, we either come out to do the work that day or we don't come out at ALL." I hung up actually crying, thinking I was damned; the leaks had now progressed to 4 pinhole leaks, now instead of a bucket I had to put a large plastic bin under the pipes, which I had to dump daily using the bucket and a 5 gallon contractor pail. I am disabled, so this wasn't exactly easy on me, not to whine about it. I just was pretty much out of hope about the situation and worried silly that cold weather would set in & pipes would freeze and that'd be all she wrote. Completely in despair, I kept searching Angie's List. Then I called Phillips' Plumbing; I nearly started bawling out of relief when the lovely lady told me they could send a guy out next day. I asked for a written estimate and she said " No problem !!", cheery as all get out. :) The office girls are SOOO sweet and pleasant !! When the plumber arrived, named Bernie, I was so happy he wasn't hateful like so many I spoke with. He took time to educate me on what the problems were and what had caused them, which I truly appreciated.-- And --I got my written estimate via email next day, which was really great. The repairs were being added onto my mortgage so I had to have a written estimate. When Bernie came to do the work, he really did a totally amazing job; he showed me what he had done, showed me where my water shut-off valve was for the house ( what I thought was the shut-off wasn't even CLOSE!) and even marked it with a Sharpie so it could be easily located in an emergency. He even changed the battery in my basement smoke detector, understanding I couldn't drag a ladder in the house & down the stairs myself to do it. He cleaned up so nicely after himself, put everything back just the way he found it ( my kids don't even do this !!). :) I feel a sense of relief I can't adequately describe; there's few things as worrisome as having something wrong with the basic elements of a house's functions and not be able to get them immediately fixed. Had those pipes gone much further, it would've been an insurance situation with thousands in damage; Bernie and Phillips Plumbing saved me from all that, and I feel like I made a new friend, too~! I can't recommend these folks highly enough; from soup to nuts, every single thing they did was above par, a gold standard in service excellence~ You will never regret hiring them for your home.
Description of Work: Replaced very porous and wildly leaky copper pipes with 20 feet of PEX plastic pipe ( amazing stuff!)--, replaced a leaking backflow preventer, hot & cold water washer hoses which were shot, and did some magic on my kitchen sink faucet to make it flow with more water pressure.

I called the service provider first thing in the morning and explained had to have my kitchen sink drained and stressed that it had to be done today. The woman Rebecca was very nice on the phone and assured me someone would be out between 2 and 5pm. Later in the am and explained that an emergency came up and they would now be unable to come . She recommended a drain specialist to me when I went on that persons website to try and make contact the telephone number had been disconnected and no where on the site did i see where he was licensed and insured. I then anxiously tried contacting other plumbers and was able to get another plumber rated highly on Angies list. The drain specialist did end up calling me but I told him I had made arrangements with someone else ,did not ask him about the disconnected number on his website. I then called Rebecca back to explain she did apologize but I had explained to her how urgent the matter was to me in the morning and she assured me someone would be here. Overall very disappointed and would not call this unreliable company again.

Phillips team arrived to assess the work needed to be done. The main water shut off needed to be accessed and they managed to successfully do that. I showed them the bathroom shower whereupon the took apart the fixture(s) and diagnosed the problem. The least expensive route was to replace the part that has failed. The other option would be to cut through the wall, install new fixtures and do pipework which would have been costly. The Phillips team suggested ordering the part. The team made calls to attempt to locate a replacement part due to the fixtures I have are not local nor common to the area. They found the part and ordered it and said they would be back early next week when the part arrived. Upon putting the fixture(s) back the water leak was more aggressive than previous and as as result and in order to prevent major water loss, the main water valve was only turned back on when necessary (cooking, shaving, showers) and then turned back off. This I managed solely. I was contacted the following week when the part arrived and a date was set for installing. Phillips Plumbing have always arrived on time regarding both visits and upon their return the install was quick and done very satisfactory. I will be using Phillips again in the future.

I bought a new faucet set hoping to install it myself but was not able to do so. The Phillips plumber explained why and said he could install it but did not recommend doing that because it would cost far more than simply rebuilding the old one and because the one I had purchased would be difficult to repair or obtain parts for in the future. I was able to return the one I bought which had cost more than the repair did. I am very pleased. Also I spoke by phone with three different people at the company about the appointment over two days and each one was friendly, polite and helpful.

I woke up this morning to a nightmare with water dripping through my kitchen floor all over my basement. Having not lived in the area very long, I decided to give Phillips Plumbing a shot. Within 1/2 hour, our plumber (Bernie) was at our house sourcing and stopping the leakage to the basement. Before any work was done, we had a quick conversation at what my options were and what the prices would be for each option. We decided to replace the leaking plastic water line to the fridge with a copper tube. The valve was also replaced, as the previous one was also a source of a problem. I had a positive experience using this company and would highly recommend anyone in need of plumbing to give them a shot. Bernie was very professional and knowledgeable and I plan on requesting him for future plumbing needs.

The plumber showed up approximately 1/2 hour late. He spent about 15 to 20 minutes diagnosing where a leak had come from. He started by checking where I had discovered a leak in the basement the night before. I told him I shut the water to the refrigerator ice maker because I thought that may be the issue. He pulled out the refrigerator, noticed some warped wooden panels underneath and concluded that was the source of the leak. He provided a card from a company that could do mold mitigation even though there was no evidence of mold. He claimed they have plenty of experience going through insurance and that they would need to rip everything out to dry it and treat for mold. He then proceeded to charge me $150. A $50 dispatch fee and $100 for the diagnosis. When I questioned the charge, he laughed and said "you wouldn't question it if a doctor charged you that much for a diagnosis". An overall terrible experience. $600 an hour to diagnose a leak. Unbelievable!
Description of Work: Diagnosed that the ice maker in my refrigerator was leaking.

(removed member name) it is of great concern to us that you had a negative experience with Phillips Plumbing. Our appointment times are set up in a 2 hour window. Unfortunately we can never be sure to the time completion of the previous client's job. We do call our clients and make them aware of any serious delays in appointment times. As far as the other concerns, Scott has been a licensed plumber for 20 years and I am certain that his advise was accurate. Any time there is water damage there could be mold. It is not always visible until the damaged wood is removed . I sincerely hope you were able to resolve your issue. Linda Phillips

It showed up when they said they would. They did the job. They explained everything. Very professional. A little pricey but the service was very good! I would use them again if needed.

Beautifully! Thankfully there wasn't much wrong, but I was able to obtain so much more about my system and how to care for it! These guys are the sweetest, warmest people around, and they really care about what they are doing. I never would have expected as much! There were a couple of scheduling issues, and my original appointment unfortunately had to be moved because they had a couple of emergency jobs, but they were so prompt in letting me know and rescheduling, and were so apologetic, that I was frankly very touched. It is also good to know that if I ever had an emergency, I could expect the same kind of treatment. I highly recommend this company!!
