Description of Work: Started off on the wrong foot took off from work on the date they said they would start the job waited 4 hours for them no show. Called office and they said oh we confirmed it for tomorrow not today so right off the bat I wasn't a happy camper. High pressure sales pitch some evidence of effluent on walls no water on floor. Claimed water was trapped inside foundation block claimed that water would be released when they install their weep holes. Well weep holes drilled no evidence of water said they would flush block with mold destroying liquid but I never see them do it. Both sump pumps high and dry since the day they finished and 3 months after their install. Laborers toiled 3 days installed French drain and 2 sump pumps in basement. Concrete finish work on basement floor covering French drain was deplorable. Basement floor was smooth but where the jackhammered it up looks like a washboard ripples pitting and now hairline cracks have formed on some spots. Shoddy finish work. I would not recommend this company for the money I spent I feel the quality of the job was subpar. Steer clear of this company.

Description of Work: Waterproofed basement by installing drain around inside wall of basement. It left a layer of dust everywhere and we did not realize all appliances had to be unhooked and pulled from the wall for 2 weeks. We won't know the outcome until the next heavy sustained rain.

Found the representative very pushy. He almost would not leave without us signing a contract (which we didn't). While the system of waterproofing looked good, it was expensive compared to b-dry. Also, he kept lowing the price in order to entice us into signing. Seems like he inflated it in the first place so he could do this.

We apologize for your experience. Our inspectors are highly trained, thorough, and can be overzealous at times. When comparing other companies, you cannot just compare price but also quality, experience and product. Mid-Atlantic has a best price guarantee and has never had to pay out on it. We’d love the opportunity to show you what we can do for your home.

They were very responsive and answered all the questions that I had. While the estimate received, and price ultimately paid, was fairly higher than other estimates, I felt that the products used by Mid-Atlantic were superior to those used by other companies. So even though it was much more expensive, I felt the quality was higher. I had a few issues with water in my basement following the work, but Mid-Atlantic sent someone out to do additional work at no additional cost. I really appreciated the commitment to making sure I was happy with the work.

Although the address of this company is York, Pa, their territory includes NEPA. My impression of this company is that they are primarily a sales organization; they contract out the work to local employers. My work was done by David Kizev of CLK Landscaping and horticultural services (Clark Summit, Pa). I was satisfied with their work. Your first contact with this company will be with a salesman. They push it pretty hard. My experience was that the price came down when I didn't immediately bite. The actual solution they provide is a pretty standard one: dig a trench and divert the water to a sump pump. They did a good job.

I totally agree with many members here about this company and in several reviews, I had the same bad experience. It was the worst experience I have ever had. The so called inspector had a convincing story, I fell for it, but after I signed (I have been dealing with water issues for 2 years in a brand new home) it just didn't sit well with me. Women's intuition. After losing sleep for 2 nights because of the huge amount of money they wanted and reviews here and the BBB, I drove to the office and signed my cancellation form. Instead of handing me my check, they sent the inspector to the house to hand deliver it and that is when things went downhill. I was prepared because I had contacted another company (ethical company) and they told me what would transpire on this inspector's return trip and it went down exactly like he said it would step by step. Things went from bad to worse but I didn't cave. He wouldn't leave(I live alone) He kept reducing the price, tried to force me to call past clients for references on the spot. Then I was offered to place a sign in my yard as advertisement for a price reduction. I was told if I didn't resign I would be charged for materials because there is a form you sign that says you are responsible but I knew it wasn't legal. I was told if I waited, the free financing was no longer a guarentee, the price would go up 7.5 percent. Then he tried to get to me by saying he has a crew now with no job trying to make me feel bad. He just kept going on and on and I was getting more and more upset and very uneasy. I finally was able to get him to leave but I was close to calling 911. I got my check back but not without some serious emotional trama. The cost of the job was 3 times my other estimates and my new estimates would have more work done, fixing everything that needed done including things the so called inspector missed. They use scare tatics which added to the emotion stress because I know there is a serious problem to begin with on this new home. If anyone reads this I beg of you to not call this company.

Problems were encountered went removing the cement, not their fault the cement was twice normal depth as well as the footer. This created much more dust and debris than normal, recommend a heavy covering of all items in the area. Also, we were not prepared for the destruction in the finished part of our basement, we would recommend that the sales rep explain/emphasize this in detail. Only one complaint the replacement cement is not finished off very well. The crew were very pleasant and tried to be as careful with the construction dirt and debris as possible. Thank you Ed Wapniewski and his crew ( Ray, CJ, Ray and Jeff).

We were satisfied overall with the results of th work and we have since recommended the services of Mid-atlantic to a friend.
Description of Work: We had 8" of water in our basement following a storm that passed through the area the end of 2011 and contacted Mid State for an estimate of work required to prevent water in our basement in the future. The salesman appeared very knowledgeable and explained in detail what was required and costs. The crew opened the concrete floor at base of block walls to install drain tile which tied into 2 sump pumps ( including one with a battery back-up system). They thoroughly tested the sysem and took time to make sure the my wife and I were 100% satisfied with the results. They also installed breather holes in the top of the block to help improve drainage of water in the block walls. The initial crew finished the job in several days and then re-concreted and sealed the new floor. Several months later whhen I had questions the company had a technician drive out to our house to make sure that we understood the system. My wife was concerned with the dust generated by breakingup the concrete floor so Mid-state hired a seperate cleaning crew to clean the dust to her satisfaction. It has been 8 months and the basement is bone dry and we are very happy with the situation

We have had several storms since and our basement is bone dry. They did an excellent job and I would highly recommend them. We had a couple questions after they came out. They put in a battery operated sump pump, which is nice. They came back out after everything was installed to test, inform me of how to work everything, and make sure everything was okay. I was very impressed with their follow up along with their entire service. Other than the flooding (which had no relation to them), this was a great experience. I have recommended them to others.

We called this company, one of many, to come and give us an estimate to repair issues with minor moisture in our cement block basement walls. The man who came to give us the estimate, at first, seemed very knowledgeable. He told us about a system that we could have installed in our basement (similar to a French drain) that would solve all of our problems. He warned us that the water on our walls was pretty bad and that it was urgent for us to do this as soon as possible. He wanted to start work in four days. (Red flag - any good company would not be able to start that soon.) Unfortunately, as the visit progressed, he became very much like a used car salesman, pushing the products which are patented only by this company. He was here for an hour and a half trying to sell us the company's products and services. He started out with an estimate of $11,000, lowered it to $9800, and then to $8800. He persistently pushed us to fill out the paperwork for a loan through his company and told us that if he left, the deal for $8800 was off. He also said no one else would be able to do the job right. Both my husband and I are intelligent enough to realize sales tactics when we see them. At that point, we declined the offer, explained that we were going to get other estimates/opinions, and asked him to leave. He did not. He continued to push us to fill out the paperwork. It took my husband and I FORTY minutes to get him out of our home. It was the worst experience I have ever had with a company which is supposed to give us a simple estimate. Later, we spoke with neighbors of ours who had also had the exact same experience 8 YEARS AGO when they called this company to give them an estimate for the identical problem we are having. They ended up going with another company for a fraction of the cost and have never had water in their basement again. I will never recommend this company to anyone. Check them out through the BBB before hiring.

Being a dishonest company would be to not give you, as the customer, the three day rescission period. In our opinion, we would be a scam company if we allowed your problem to continue for too long. Water problems are progressive and can escalate quickly. We apologize for your experience with our inspector.

Very good, see above comment.
Description of Work: Purchased this home in 2007 and the previous owner had part of the basement waterproofed by MidAtlantic in 2000. We finished the rest of the baseement after the storms and the flooding of 2010. The original waterproofing done in 2000 was adaquate but the rest of the basement needed to be done as the sump pump hole was not adaquate for the room. The orignal work crew was excellent and we had several folow up visits as no additional cost. They not only installed the additional waterproofing but inspected and updated my 10 year old system by adding a new pump. I have several neighbors who have also had waterproofing done and I have recommended Mid Atlantic to one neighbor and she also has had good results with good follow up after. I also had a report from a friend in Spring Grove who used MidAtlantic and they found a structural problem when they were installing her system and had it fixed for her. Do keep your eye on all service people that come into your home. It is very important that you make sure that what you have comunicated is what is actually done. My standard procedure is to get three estimate, but since they original warantee for the work done in 2000 was honored, I decided to use MidAtlantic as I was pleased at how the original system was working.

We had a water problem in our basement that needed remediation as we were going to put our house on the market. Mid-Atlantic gave us a proposal and estimate, promised a start date and after we accepted the proposal everything they promised happened; no actually they exceeded their promise to us by the timeliness, professional service and concern for getting the job done correctly. We had issues, not connected to their great work, and they found time to help us through these issues and not even accept payment for their time and effort. These folks are incredible!!
Description of Work: Dealing with Mid-Atlantic Systems was an incredible experience. When you have a water problem in your basement and you expect nothing special to occur this organization really surprised us. Service was top drawer, the crew was well organized, very skilled and cleaned up the site as if nothing occurred. We couldn't have been happier with the outcome and beyond that we had a couple of issues, not connected to Mid-Atlantic's work, and they found time to help us out of these issues. Not only help us out but refuse payment for their time and effort. We would highly reccomend Mid-Atlantic to anyone needing this type of service. A job truly WELL DONE!!!!!

We had been getting water for several years. When the floods came in September, it was the last straw. The carpet was ruined along with the bottom of our walls. We had gotten two other estimates, and frankly, we were not impressed. One company in particular spent all of 10 minutes at our house, and wrote $10,000 on the back of his business card. Mid-Atlantic arrived, did a very thorough inspection, and gave us a detailed report of what was found, and different options available. We felt very comfortable with the solution recommended to us. When the work began, the crew arrived on time, walked us back through the job and reassured us that our water problem would soon be in the past. The crew was neat, polite, and very helpful in general. The job itself was quite loud as we had jack hammers running for the good part of a day. The job took 3 days, aand at the end of the job, the crew cleaned up and did a final walk thru and tested the pumps. Everything looked great, but I knew the real test would be a heavy rain. Since the time of the installation, we have had at least 3 rains where previously we would have gotten water in the basement. AT LAST ...A DRY BASEMENT!!! I finally have peace of mind during rainy days. I would highly recommend this company to anyone having a wet basement.
Description of Work: We had an interior water management system installed in our home. This involved openeing up the floor all the way around our basement walls. Mid-Atlantic dug ditches and installed piping under the floor with gravel around it. Two sump pumps were installed. Cracks were repaired on the walls. All the cement which was removed was poured back new.

The crew arrived on schedule. They were all very nice, polite men. They took the time to cover all of our belongings, and seemed like they really cared about our home. The job took three days. It was loud, but we expected that. The men cleaned up each day, and returned on time each day. At the end of our job, the foreman walked us thru, tested the pumps, and gave us an overall briefing on the job. We were very happy. When the historical rains came in September, the system and pumps WORKED GREAT!!!!! WE LOST POWER, BUT THE BACKUP GENERATOR KICKED IN AND KEPT THE PUMPS GOING!!!!!! Truley remarkable, we could'nt be more pleased. Thankyou Mid-Atlantic for a job well done.
Description of Work: We had been getting water in our basement for years. Half of our basement is finished and the other half is not. The water would only affect the unfinished area until the spring of 2011. The problem appeared to be getting worse as our carpet was soaked and drywall got moldy after one particular heavy rain. We called 3 companies including Mid-Atlantic. We were very impressed by the company credentials and their overall knowledge. We contracted with them to install a perimeter drainage system with two sump pumps.

They said they were the only company who could do certain things. They spoke ill of all the other companies. They said they were the only company with a patent pending and so forth. When we found water in our basement after particularly heavy rains in February 2011, we started the search for a permanent solution that would keep water out of our basement under any weather conditions. We were introduced to this firm during a home fair exhibition. The sales team came to our house three times to explain the benefits of their system and their warranties. That was mostly an unpleasant experience. Their sale tactics are very aggressive and they demanded that we make a decision on the spot. We did that twice, and both times we sent in the cancellation order within the and quot;buyer's remorseand quot; time period. Hence, the third visit. For the third sales visit, the manager of the sales team came personally. He offered us a very significant discount from past estimates and the ability to finance it interest free for 6 months. His sales style was more casual and relaxed. He gave us plenty of time to make a decision and did not demand that we do so promptly. By then, with no drainage system or sump pump in our basement, we were ready to commit. The installation team came a few days later. These folks were very professional, took good care of protecting our property in the basement and were always available for questions. The foreman asked us to review their job while still in progess. One negative point during installation: The foreman failed to recognize part ot the Radon extraction piping that was discovered under the slab precisely where they were going to install their drainage pipes. He incorrectly told me that they were part of an old drainage system that was never connected to a sump pump. These two segments of Radon extraction piping were removed to make room for their drainage pipes. Fortunately, according to the Radon level indicator in the basement, Radon levels have been unaffected. He told me that he would connect one end of the new drainage pipes to the existing pipes. The other end of their drainage pipe ended in the sump pump well. Except for this lack of knowledge which fortunately had no apparent negative effect on the Radon extraction system, we were pleased with their work. Naturally, we had to wait for the next round of heavy rains to see if the system really kept our basement dry. That came with the constant rainfall from the tropical storm that followed Irene in late August and early September of 2011. Over 4 to 5 days, the south central PA area experienced severe flooding conditions affecting the nearby cities of Harrisburg, Middletown, Hummelstown and Hershey, among others. All our neighbors inevitably had water in their basements. Our sump pump worked like a champ pumping water out. But still, we took out 5 bucketfuls of water in each of two consecutive days. All in all, I would say that the system worked at 50% capacity since water still came in through one of the two walls where the drainage system was installed. We called in the incident to the company and, after one week, no return call has been forthcoming. In summary, I'm glad that we installed the system even though it did not work perfectly under the load of what has become locally known as the and quot;Great Flood of 2011and quot;. I suspect that, had we not installed it, the amount of water in our basement would have been enormous and the damage to our property would have been much higher. Naturally, I will continue to pursue the company's warranty promises. I will report an update on that course of action as events unfold. UPDATE: About 2 weeks after notifying the company that I had water in my basement, they called to set up an appointment for a technician to visit us for inspection of the system and repairs. On Sept 27, Scott arrived after calling in to confirm his arrival. Scott inspected the system and discovered several small holes that were left uncovered when the system was installed. He covered them up with a water tight sealant. I inspected his work right behind him and found he had done a good job. Then he went on to answer questions that we had about the sump pump. Additionally, when we told him that we suspected that water was coming in through both basement windows, he proceeded to seal the seams around the basement window wells in the outside. In the process of doing so, he accidentally broke one of the plastic covers for one of the window wells outside. Even though the cover was already cracked, he offered to come back and replace it with a new one. He took down my cell phone number to call me before coming; just so that I knew he was coming. No access to the house is needed to replace an external plastic cover to the basement window well. All in all, we found Scott very professional and knowledgeable. He was extremely courteous and helpful in answering our questions. Several times, he encouraged us to call in if we had any more problems or questions. Now we will wait for the next round of heavy rains to see how the system works. The company's warranty is for a dry basement. So far, we have called them on their warranty and they have responded.

For the year following the installation, we would listen for the sump pump to turn on or go down to see if there was water flowing into the pit. Not once did we ever hear or see the pump turn on. In fact, the drain pipes that run into the pit have always been bone dry. We didn't get concerned with it since the only thing that mattered was that the walls and floor were dry. About a year after having the system installed (April/May), we were in the basement and noticed that the walls in the corner by the sump pump had water running down them. This was actually nothing we had seen in the past before they installed the system. So I took pictures to document it and called Midatlantic immediately. I didn't describe to them in detail what had happened, but I did say that we had water coming through our walls. For all they knew, the water could be gushing into our house. (Thank goodness we still hadn't found the time to finish our basement) The person who schedules the techs to come out was not available so I left my information for them to call me back. I waited a day, then called them back. Again, the person was not available and they would and quot;get back to meand quot; yet again. I had to call them a third time, several days later, before I was able to schedule someone to come look at the walls. They said the earliest someone could come out would be the end of July. That was two months from the time of the incident!! So the day comes when they were scheduled to come to the house and they schedule times like the cable company does: a window of time. I took vacation time to stay home and wait for them and nobody called or came to the house. 30 minutes after the scheduled time frame ended, I called them. Their excuse was that the technician got held up and was running late. Most companies and contractors would call you to let you know that they were running late. Then they seemed upset that we weren't home afterwards for them to come (1 hour after the time frame they had given). I called them the following day to reschedule, and (big surprise) the person in charge of scheduling was not available. Nobody returned my call so once again I called them back two days later. They tentatively scheduled a time, but needed to verify. She said she would call me back within 15 minutes. It's two hours later and I'm still waiting for that phone call. I'm not sure what will come of this when we finally get someone to the house to look at our, now bone dry, walls two months after the fact. But we are definitely not impressed with the job after getting water in the basement again and waiting more than two months for them to see it. They lack any and all customer service skills. The company has not once tried to contact me, even just to return calls. I finally got someone to come to the house after two days of unanswered phone calls. The man I spoke to over the phone regarding the problem of water coming through the walls was not pleasant. As I explained the problem to him, he was cutting me off and giving an excuse for why all of it would happen. For example, if water came into the walls then it shouldn't pool on the floor because it would run behind the and quot;trackand quot; that they installed. My concern with that is, water shouldn't be coming through the walls anyway. When another man finally did come to the house and I repeated that conversation to him, he agreed with me that the water shouldn't be coming through the walls. Besides that, I had sealed the crack behind the track to keep radon from coming into the house, and the man who came to the house said that I did the right thing. So I had conflicting information from one person on the phone and one person who came to my house. The man who came to see our problem was very nice and came back the next day to and quot;fix the problemand quot;, which consisted of putting a waterproofing sealant on the walls. If that's all it took to keep the water out, then why didn't they just do that in the first place for a few hundred dollars instead of digging up the floor and all the other bells and whistles that cost us thousands of dollars? Overall, I feel that the we wasted our money on a system that was unnecessary for our problem. We probably could have fixed it ourselves by just sealing any existing hairline cracks in the mortar and sealing the walls with drylock. A good company with good customer service would have offered to do that instead of the big circus that we ended up with. I understand that some basements get inches upon inches of water and need a system like this, but ours wasn't a case like this.
Description of Work: After experiencing water slowing coming into our basement (in the joint between the wall and the floor) for a few years, we decided it was finally time to do something about it permanently. It was never a large amount of water and nothing would have ever "floated" in it, but it was enough to keep us from finishing our basement and ever using it with peace of mind. We had three or four different waterproofing companies come to the house. The salesperson for Midatlantic was the most relaxed and non-pushy one of the bunch. We did our research and found great reviews and some complaints for all of the companies, so that didn't influence us either way. Despite the fact that their price was not the lowest, what they said made more sense the the others and they were not pushy with it. So the crew came in to waterproof and was finished in one day. It was messy, but they attempted to clean up after themselves as much as they could. Besides, our basement wasn't a finished basement requiring much care and cleanup anyway.

Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing guaranteed the results of their system. They gave us a warrantee that would last the life of the home as long as we lived there. They were very good.
Description of Work: Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing installed a waterproofing system in the basement in my home. They took the cement on the perimeter of the inside of the basement. Then they installed a piping system that was embedded in stone. They then drilled drainage holes for air circulation in the walls to allow all the water in the outside of the foundation to drain. They also installed two sump pumps.

The company was using sub-contractors who were completely unprofessional, impolite, and incompetent. The man who installed one of the new sump pumps measured the pvc pipes incorrectly, making the connection too short, so he placed several chunks of old concrete underneath the pump to lift it up closer to the discharge line, so it could be glued. The glue failed, however, and several months after the installation that discharge line came apart and water from the sump pit was sent all over my basement floor. This was the worst incident of basement flooding we ever had, less than a year after paying $10,000 for a dry basement. At the advice of my homeowners insurance company, I did not allow the MidAtlantic tech person to come and do anything (all he would have done is repair the pipe, that's all their warranty requires them to do. They would never pay anything toward damage to the home). The insurance company sent out a forensic investigator, who discovered the concrete chunks under the pump and clearly identified the improper installation as the reason for all the water damage in my basement. Mid-Atlantic was required to pay all of the cost for the basement restoration work which was needed as a result of the improper installation. They have never offered any other compensation or restitution for this very bad installation, or for the stress and upheaval to our home which resulted from it. I hired a plumber to correctly re-connect the discharge line so the sump pump could operate.
Description of Work: We hired this company to replace our existing waterproofing system, beacuse their advertising and brochures implied a lifetime guarantee of the "dryest basement in town". The result was the worst flooding we ever had in our basement

Response from Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing of PA
Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing is always willing to attempt resolution with our customers. There are many complaints the member makes in his lengthy complaint, however, most appear to be exaggerated (or the company has no way to verify whether or not they are true), as the conduct of the company’s personnel, both during and after the project, is not all consistent with Mid-Atlantic’s business philosophy, commitment to customer service, policies and procedures, actual customer history and excellent reputation in the industry and with the public up and down the East Coast for almost three decades. Diego Mosquera, Regional Manager, Mid-Atlantic Systems of CPA. The original price of the basement waterproofing contract was $10,983. When Mr. Fenstermaker initially complained, we offered him a $900 discount that he accepted, saying he was satisfied, and further demonstrated by the fact he paid the remaining balance on the contract. Mid-Atlantic is proud that every one of its contracts comes with a lifetime warranty. When the member had a water leakage problem and called for service, Mid-Atlantic reacted as it always does and immediately mobilized a service team to inspect, and if necessary, repair the problem. Shortly after making the service call to the company, however, the member called and told us not to come. Instead, he contacted an insurance company representative and had non-expert contractor review the problem. Nonetheless, Mid-Atlantic offered to pay the member his $500 insurance deductible to make him whole (including in a letter to the Better Business Bureau on September 24, 2009. He rejected it. In addition, regarding insurance, the Mid-Atlantic installer’s insurance company, Erie Insurance, is the same as the member’s, so the claim will not be counted against him, as the full amount was subrogated. The basement waterproofing system was installed and it is our understanding from the member that the system now works perfectly. Mid-Atlantic has made numerous efforts to resolve this complaint with the member, but he has become increasingly irrational. He has continually demanded more and more to resolve his complaint, to the point where he is now seeking triple the amount of the contract, that is, the full price of the contract returned (despite having a working system) and $20,000 more for what he says is his aggravation and despite the equipment’s excellent durability in homes, his irrational fear that the system will fail. Mid-Atlantic of CPA, Inc. installs approximately 700 basement waterproofing systems annually. In any given year, there are fewer than five complaints (less than 1% that are not immediately resolved, and of those that are not immediately resolved, literally one or two will be the subject of complaints to organizations such as the BBB, Angie’s List, etc. Just recently, a Mid-Atlantic company was awarded the Torch Award, the BBB’s highest honor awarded to a company that demonstrates extraordinary business practices. The Torch Award pays tribute to businesses that exhibit extraordinary high standards of honesty and integrity toward customers, employees, shareholders and their community. In addition, the company was nominated for a 2009 International Torch Award. The member also complained to the Better Business Bureau, however, the BBB closed their file after their investigation.
