Work was done in a timely matter and the price was almost exactly what they originally estimated.
Description of Work: Leak in a stand up shower and also a leak in the sink. Reliable came to the home, opened the ceiling below the shower to determine what was causing the problem. They found it to be coming from old tiles and repaired the issue by removing the bottom 3' of tile on all three walls and replacing the damaged blue board and retiled the walls. While there the also fixed the sink. Once work was complete they then repaired the drywall ceiling where they had to open it up.

I appreciated that he worked to set up a good time to work on the problem. It was also great that he was able to locate a leak that we had been trying to find for years.

The owner of the company was wonderfully responsive--very prompt in replying to emails and phone calls. The first handyman who came was very late (about two hours late), but he was polite, and he did a nice job on some plastering and a basement clean-up. He was supposed to come back to complete a rehanging of a bathroom vanity door, but he did not show up the day he was supposed to come, and there was no phone call. I requested another handyman to do the rest of what I needed done, which was replacing some rotted decking. Again, the owner of the company responded quickly and sent someone out. The man who came out this time got the decking work done efficiently. Unfortunately, he left nails and sawdust for me to clean up. Overall it was an OK experience. The price was good. The professionalism was great on the part of the owner but less so on the part of the handymen who came.
Description of Work: I bought an Angie's List special--two packages of, I think, 3 hours each, for $119. Had minor plastering, a basement clean-up, and minor decking work done.

I wanted them to realign some of the kitchen cabinets. Some of the hinges were old and I wanted the doors to line up and be able to close. It would have been nice if they could come out and look at it before committing to it. They came out and were prompt and courteous. They were able to work on two or three cabinets but they couldn't help the other cabinets because they needed new hinges. They didn't know where to find the hinges and they told us to find them and they would come back out. My worry is the way that the Big Deals are set up. If they were able to come out and assess the job beforehand they could evaluate whether the hinges were good or not and then we could be prepared with the new hinges they needed when they came out to do the work. I feel like we only got half the job I paid for even though I understand what they were saying.

Used an Angie's List coupon for 2 hours of handyman services. The appointment was for 9AM but they were only able to come at noon. They instal a garbage disposal but we wound up getting a plumber a few months later to fix a leak that was occurring with the installation. The handyman did do some extra work for us since we had him for an extra 30 mins.

After scheduling the first time, Joe sent me a contract outlining an estimate for the work to equal the two jobs I discussed with him: two kick molding and fixing the hole in the molding above my porch where squirrels where getting in. I took pictures to send to him in advance and he attached them to the estimate which totaled the amount I had paid for the Big Deal: $119 for 3 hours of work with one area of speciality - carpentry. He indicated that materials would need to be provided or would be an extra cost and that extra time would be an extra cost, etc. The first guy was supposed to be there at 8:30am. I arranged my schedule so that I could be there at that time and he never came. I called Joe 20 minutes after the time he was supposed to arrive and he said he had recently spoken to him and he was on his way. He was going to call him and get back to me. Before I heard anything back from Joe, I realized later that the guy had called me at 7:30 that morning to say he wasn't going to make it. I called Joe back with this update and he said maybe he hadn't talked to him after all. I found this bizarre. I asked if we could reschedule for later that week and he said he would get back to me. I didn't hear from him so I called later to see if we could arrange for a day I could be home. I was also worried that my deal would expire. He sent me another copy of the same estimate, and indicated that a different guy would be there the next morning. This time the guy called in advance and arrived on time. He got there and immediately realized he didn't have the ladder to do the porch molding portion of the job - the main job I wanted done. He told me he called another guy with a ladder to come. He was able to finish installing the toe kick molding in 40 minutes. He did a decent job. He put caulk in additional places where the molding was separating from the wall to make it look tighter and it compensated for some short cuts he made where the ends didn't exactly meet up. He didnt do anything to the doorway molding area at the floor and when asked about it said it requires "special puddy that comes with the floor" He then was packing up to leave and I asked about the other job. He said because he didn;t have the ladder to do the job that someone else would be coming - he didn't know when. He then mentioned that he wouldn't get paid for the work he did because he couldn't finish the job. I told him I didn't understand that and was sorry if that was true, I had already paid and didn't understand the system they use for contracting out the work. I felt bad and awkward. He was nice and did a fine job. I didn't know what to expect next or if anyone else was actually coming, but about 3 hours later when trying to put my toddler down for a nap, another guy showed up at the door to fix the molding on my porch. While we were talking about it, ANOTHER guy showed up to do the same job. They were both really nice but it became clear there wasn't enough work for BOTH of them. I explained what the first guy had said about not getting paid and they were like "yeah, if it was less than an hour, he won't get paid" So, I was like, well then let's say it took an hour (vs. the 40 minutes actual time)! It felt weird to be having this negotiation, but I didn't want anyone to not get paid. So we decided I had 2 hours left. They asked if there was anything else I needed done because the one guy could fix the molding AND purchase the needed piece he said "easily in an hour or less". They asked if I could up with another job for the extra guy that showed up. I did - it was to separate an old rusted fence from the posts in my back patio. The other guy went to get the molding I needed after I called the supplier to see how much it would cost me ($15). He then asked me if I had any caulk because otherwise he would have to charge me for the caulk. I told him I didn't realize caulk was part of the supplies but gave him what I had. I told him that if the time ran long, I would have to leave to get my son from school, but he said it wouldn't be an issue. They both worked while I was in a phone meeting in my house. The one guy finished the fence and left. At a the time I needed to get my son, I realized it had been an hour and 1/2 and the guy on the porch was just putting the ladder on his truck. I told him I had to leave at that moment so as not to be late to get my son, but would be back in 15 minutes. He said he was still getting the ladder on the truck & would wait. I came back and he told me it would be an extra hour of labor since the time he showed up, plus materials for the molding an caulk since mine didn't work. I told him I was uncomfortable that he was charging me for another hour after expressing confidence it wouldn't even take an hour. I told him I understood that things take extra time, and that he cannot always predict accurately, but that I expected he would communicate with me if the timeframe he presented needed to change. He gave me no opportunity to decline the additional time, or otherwise consider if I could pay him the additional money he was charging me, after making the decision to use the OTHER hour I had with a different contractor based on his assurance it would be an hour or less for the porch job and the fact that two guys showed up at the same time for the one job. He said he just works until the job is finished, and doesn't even wear a watch. I told him I expect professional communication if the agreement we made was changing. He said they usually are supposed to charge even for nails! He was giving me a break on that. I really liked this guy. Both of them. All of them. They seem hard working, they were nice and warm with my children, but the professional communication and expectations management was lacking and the whole pricing/payment system made me very uncomfortable. I was told stories of other customers who refused to pay, who didn't understand that time at the store was time on the clock, etc, etc. I am NOT one of those customers, but I DO expect my contractors to be upfront and clear and communicate with me if and when things change based on our agreement. I want these guys to get paid, but I also want to get the work done and not get overcharged because of poor communication, management or planning - at least without my consent.
Description of Work: Installed toe-kick molding along baseboard in small water closest/powder room. Sawed existing iron fence to separate from posts in 5 places along ~16 foot length. Replaced approx 5inch x 6inch missing crown-molding piece above porch.

First day showed up as promised. From then on it was sporadic as to when got there Usually was never before I had to leave for work as promised so I had to end up leaving key and did not know exactly how many hours per day work was performed. There were also many days where appointments were cancelled. This is really my main complaint. I guess I am too trusting (naive). Work was done professionally and was quality. I would have preferred dealing via telephone as opposed via email with owner. I would have also preferred a line item invoice detailing each repair/install and how many hours each repair/install took and the day it took place.
Description of Work: Remove, supply and install 1/4 round throughout first floor. Remove base supply and install in certain areas. Supply and install base where needed. Picture frame fire place (Oak) sand and stained to match. Installation of glass block windows. Repair bi-fold/sliders throughout house. Install floor register. Deck Repair. Installation of 2 thresholds foyer and kitchen. Repair ceiling in bathroom. Supply and installation of the shutters. Installation of the Storm Door. Repair 3 toilets. Great communication, professionalism, and workmanship. I was left with some gritty stuff in the bowl of my sink, and some caulk on the faucet but I caught it fast and was able to clean it easily.
Description of Work: I got the three hour deal to get my windows evaluated for caulking and get the caulking done. John responded right away and set up a time for someone to do the work. On the day of, my handyman was a little late - stuck in traffic - but contacted me throughout to keep my informed of what was going on and when he would arrive. He checked the windows and didn't make any comments about how I had left stuff in front of them and had to move it all for him to do the work. He ended up caulking just two out of my ten windows, and with the extra time he looked into a leak I had been having - I had already had two different unreliable contractors come out to try to stop the leak and never come back. Jack found where he thought it would be coming from and showed me the area. It seemed pretty obviously a source of a leak since the siding or flashing (not sure what the material was) was cracked and splitting. He fixed that within my three hour time limit and I couldn't be happier.

Thank you for leaving feedback. The issues with the grout are related to the sub strate which is loose and the grout will continue to crack. The cabinet doors were is a state of disrepair and probably will never function properly and there was only so much we could do with the cabinet doors. To fix these issues properly would have taken significantly more than 3 hours.

I called up and explained the job,it was a very simple job. Baseboards in a small room and a 4' window frame. We agreed it shouldn't take more than 2-3 hours. That sounded about right. This job is easy enough, I could have done it but I didn't have a saw or the patience to get into it myself. RHS was "generous" and offered me the 3 hour angies list special for $119 so sure I took them up on it. I was asked to go pick up the baseboard moulding before the handyman got there. No problem. So the day the handyman stops by he's an hour late. He did call to let me know, however, it was only five minutes before he was supposed to arrive. He shows up and immediately tells me I bought the wrong moulding and I should go out and buy more. So I run off to Lowes and pickup what he requested. On the drive back i get a phone call asking me to pick up an additional type of trim. So I turn around and get more trim. Round trip took about an hour of my time, which by the way I have a job and should have been working. I come back and he's laid out a small bit of baseboard and it looks decent. I take a look at the window and the trim he cut and installed and it is short, lopsided, and gashed by the saw. I asked why there was a big lip and he said he didn't know how i wanted the trim to be done to do so he assumed this is what I wanted. The same guy who called me to buy additional trim on my phone couldn't call me to find out if i wanted a lip or a flush mounted window frame? So that trim needed to come down if not for the fact that is was cut short, because of the fact that it was all messed up. But because of this guess what? I needed to go out and get more trim for the window frame at lowes. Another 1/2 hour. I come back and very little progress was made. He was moving pretty slow (snail pace). While I understand these guys dont like to sacrifice quality for speed, this was rediculous. In the end the quality was mediocre at best. Lots of caulking and wood filler was required on my part to clean it up. So expecting the fact that I was quoted $119 to do the job in the beginning, and I made all the trips to lowes (what would he have done if I wasn't around?), and he was running at snail pace (roughly 20minutes to cut a piece of board), and he buggered up a bunch of wood (based on the close to $100+ worth of scrapped trim sitting in my garage) the fact that he never even offered the other 2 estimates, I figured we would work out a reasonable price for baseboards work that was completed. But he comes back with $119+ $65per hour over the 3 original hours. In my line of work, if an estimate is over 100% off you are considered incompetent. I understand it is an estimate, but +/-25%-50% is more than acceptable. I feel like because it was a small job and the handyman said he didn't have anyother jobs that day, he sandbagged this deal to pull together additional cash. I didn't intend to write this review, I was hoping to talk to someone about it, but after leaving 2 messages and not getting a response (24hours + later), I guess its fair to say that once these guys get your money, you aren't really that important to them any more.

Bought a coupon off Angie's List, which seemed like a good deal at the time. Long story short, I'm still hiring people to clean up the nightmare that these incompetent idiots visited upon me. First, I called the guy who runs the place. He tells me that replacing my piping with PEX tubing - that I provided- would be no problem. Along the way, I emailed him the data on every single thing (tubing size, hot water heater, etc.) that I planned to use, and was told it was fine. Next, the closing date on the house gets pushed back, and I email this guy to tell him we need to reschedule for a date to be determined. I get a call from this moron later on saying that his crew was there, wondering where I was. I explained what was going on (again) in very. little. words, and we rescheduled. By this time, I'm stuck with these idiots as plumbers, since my house didn't have running water and I had been forced to move in due to another set of circumstances. The rude s.o.b. that Reliable (Ha!) Handyman Services subbed this job out to comes out, acts condescending, tells me he doesn't even have the basic tools to get the job done as discussed with Joe, the ever-so-brilliant Reliable Handyman contact, and that "No matter what [he] did with the PEX tubing, it was going to look like [crap]." This idiot subcontractor then condescendingly went through my house, noted (I thought) everything I needed, and then had to scramble to get someone else to help him at the last minute - despite the fact that Brilliant Joe had actually scheduled the job over two days, thinking it was going to be more involved than it was. Oh, and despite the fact that I'd emailed Joe The Mensa Member the exact type of water heater I wanted to use, I wasn't informed that it needed special ventilation, et cetera until the rude and condescending contractor showed up. So I had to go out and spend more money on getting a water heater delivered at the last minute. (I should also mention at this point that Joe had told me not to turn the water to the house on before the contractors arrived. Of course, this meant that I had to call the city water department after these guys LEFT in order to get things done, since none of the details were properly explained beforehand. They were just visited on me in short sentences devoid of details - and punctuated by a slack jaw - that the idiot subcontractor mentioned as he went along.) So, the next day rolls around, and these guys get to work. The second subcontractor shows up two hours late, and the rude and condescending primary subcontractor who was running things kept telling this guy that the job was in the wrong neighborhood - despite my attempts to at least get him on the right side of the river. Jerk #2 then shows up, poorly solders my bathtub faucet so that it leaked once the water came on, set off the smoke alarm, and threw it into the bathroom sink - which was obviously missing an s-trap and pop-up assembly. These idiots then blamed the fact that they overlooked the sink problems on ME, despite the fact that each of these lovely paragons of professionalism had plenty of time to look things over, and never gave me an itemized list before shopping for supplies. These jerks then tried to swindle me on the billing when this was done, and I finally explained in tiny enough words that they were overcharging me. I got a *bit* of a discount from this lot that obviously never passed third grade math, and took it up with Joe, who was the main cause of this whole fiasco in the first place. He finally agreed that I'd been overcharged by about $100 - since they "forgot" to mention that Useless Subcontractor #2 was grossly late - and refunded that amount. I should further mention that the place was left FILTHY afterwards, complete with discarded wastewater pipe in the basement. The pipes that were installed by these terrific dudes were left unprimed, the couplings were poorly placed, and there were a number of other problems that I've had to pay other people to fix after these jerks left. NEVER, EVER DEAL WITH THIS DISINGENUOUS GROUP OF LOSERS IF YOU CAN POSSIBLY AVOID IT! Update: Charming. As you can see, no personal responsibility was taken for the problems caused, nor the abysmal level of customer service. This proves my point quite well, particularly the fact that they claim that my statements couldn't have been further from the truth. Everything I wrote in here is quite true, and I have the documentation to back it up. I also especially love how they claim that the job itself was ever so involved, when the truth is it wasn't. I can point to another unrelated contractor who mentioned this fact to me when he was working on the electrical circuits. "All her issues and then some were resolved" in this case is like saying that up is down and down is up. Absolutely nothing addressing the factual statements I've made whatsoever. AVOID!
Description of Work: Replaced stolen copper plumbing with PEX tubing.

Response from Reliable Handyman Services Inc
We received a phone call from the customer stating that the house she was ready to purchase was vandalized and all the copper tubing in the house was stolen believe it or not a relatively common problem. Based on our previous experience and not having access to the property and the customers insistence on getting a price and availability we relied on past experience. The original estimate based on our past experiences was to replace the copper piping with customer provided PEX (We prefer to supply our own material in situations like this) and an estimate for 1 man for 2 days was given a total of 16 man hours. The job was completed in 12 man hours including the installation of a new water heater, rectifying code issues, reconnection of drain lines that were damaged during break in, the job was completed 4 hours under the original estimated price. All her issues and then some were resolved. Furthermore we did everything we could to accommodate this customer. Listened and addressed all her inquiries. We treated her with the same respect we treat all of our customers and we would appreciate the same. The statements contained couldn’t be further from the truth and quite frankly we don’t see the need for personal attacks. This customer was serviced professionally in compliance with all of our company policies as is every one of our customers Angie’s List or not. Reliable Handyman Services in no way feels that this customer is entitled to any refund at all.

Everything went very smoothly. Handyman was able to perfom every task but one. Gutter on back of house was sticking out from neighbors gutter. He was unable to see if it could be pushed back in place, he did not have a ladder tall enough.
Description of Work: Repair and reconnect two exhaust vents. One outside of house and one in the attic. Caulk outside of front door, paint the top. replace filter for house heater. Remove screens and install windows for front and back door. Replace grommets on water disposer wiring.

The service men were prompt with the appointment times, the first appointment was actually early! Jobs were completed quickly and neatly.
Description of Work: I purchased the 3 hours of handyman services for $119.00 because I needed a hinge replaced and others adjusted. I also wanted the bathtub caulked and replacement of a utility tub. I was told by the handyman that came out that he could not replace the utility tub and that I needed the plumber. I called Joe because I had only used about 1 1/2 hours of the time I paid for and had thought I would be getting all the work completed by the handyman. Joe was very accommodating and sent a plumber the following weekend to install the utility tub at no additional charge. Although the site says the company leaves all trash curbside, the plumber was nice enough to take the old tub with him. Both gentlemen were friendly and courteous.

I got the 3 hours of handyman service for $119.00. It was well worth it! Frank arrived right on time and asked if there were any particular things that I wanted addressed while he was there. I made a list before hand and we went over everything before he got started. The baby gates that I needed installed took way longer than anticipated and he had to go out and get some extra materials to finish that particular project. The gates ended up taking him past the 3 hour mark and there were some things on the list that didn't get done, but he stayed and mounted our TV on the wall, and even returning first thing in the morning to finish installing our flower boxes. I did pay the regular rate for the extra time, but it was money well spent. All in all, a great job!
Description of Work: General stuff around the house: install new light fixtures in master bath, fix broken faucet, install 2 baby gates, put up shelf in 2nd bathroom, mount TV on the wall in the livingroom, install flower boxes on all windows.
