Description of Work: Appointment window was 12:30 to 2:30, at 2:32 they called to say they'd be there around 3:30, wasted an afternoon off from work. | |Told me I needed a capacitor (I came to find out this is a $15 part) which they would charge me $190 installed. And "install" is connecting three quick connect wires. | |They also said I needed a new outside unit motor, about $570 installed, the fan motor was not in stock on their "Rolling warehouse" of a truck and thank god they could not do it that day. I found the motor online at Granger for $144 shipped. I replaced it myself, in about ten minutes. | |Lastly, they were all about upselling, I was told i need UV lights in my indoor unit, and that would be $1100, if I purchased them today, I'd receive $100 off. Also if i signed up for a yearly service contract they'd wave some other fee. And all this was just to get my unit in a state where they could then evaluate it, and I'm sure find more wrong with it and add more charges. | |After replacing the motor myself, my unit is again blowing cold air, the $144 part was all I needed. | |I was contacted after complaining to them about their prices and service, and was told that they "have a lot of employees and trucks to maintain, that's why the price markups are so high." How is the number of employees and trucks my responsibility to pay for? Also, they sited their Rolling Warehouse that pulls up when they make a visit, which by the way didn't contain the part i needed. I am so disappointed with MY experience with Service Experts. This is just my experience, but it was not good at all. It feels to me that because HVAC and its workings are so mysterious and so counted on, customers believe whatever they are told and pay whatever is asked for service. This just feels wrong to me, I agree with only one thing that was told to me by Service Experts customer service, that their prices are comparable with other companies. I am afraid that HVAC companies are free to gouge customers because we just don't know what they are talking about, and if they told us we need $1100 UV lights or worse a $6000+ entirely new system, we'd pay it, to keep the cold air or heat flowing. I am a pretty handy guy and was able fix the motor myself, but i feel for the elderly and others not so fortunate to see through this. They got me for around $370 for a $15 dollar part after wasting my entire afternoon and a half day's pay. Never again! |

Description of Work: They have been re-leveling my ouside compressor since they installed it in 2009. The plastic pad they used is humped so the unit is not level, even though the ground below it is level; as a result the unit vibrates and moves. I have been complaining about this since it was installed. This service tech said they were just sold again, so that may be part of the problem.

Description of Work: I used them to maintain my HVAC all-electric system for many years. Recently they changed their name from Wesley Wood to "Service Experts" and that signified the beginning of the end for me. For the scheduled maintenance service which we were supposed to receive last Fall, the chain of events which resulted in our waiting fruitlessly for the service tech, 3 days in a row, is too bizarre to relate. My exasperation had dissipated by last Spring when they managed to arrive and perform the scheduled maintenance after only one cancellation. This week I called to ask for someone to check out my dehumidifier which has not been working properly, judging by the quality of the air in my home. Their response? A service tech called from his cell phone (he apparently works for or is connected to Lennox, not Service Experts, judging from the information on my telephone screen). The part of his voice message that I was able to hear (his 'phone was cutting out) seemed to be advice to me that my humidifier is not needed in the summertime. I sent a return message that I was calling about my dehumidifier, not my humidifier. I haven't heard from them since. Life's too short; I'm moving on.
