John was unable to get up on the roof due to the height but was very knowledgable and helpful.

John is energetic and efficient. He showed me the old damper and why its collar and trapdoor design actually closed off a large area of the flue. Before he installed the new damper he showed me the difference between the two, the fire guard on the new and the compression action that closes it. He made sure to instruct me how to use the new damper pull and he provided other helpful hints how to operate my fireplace more efficiently. I appreciated his suggestions of the best CO detectors and smoke alarms too. If you appreciate knowing the "whys" of something you couldn't find a better technician or teacher. Make time for John; he's a raconteur also!

John called me back and came the next day......he immediately identified my problem and set to work....i had smoke come back in the house and didn't realize that i had a broken grate on the flu......he did an awesome job for an awesome price....he is an honest and really nice man and I would highly recommend him....

Cleaned our chimney out with two different brushes to get out the built up soot. Also made some helpful recommendations to prevent smoke build up in home and how often to sweep chimney to safely have wood fires in our home. Also offered to speak to myself or my husband at any time to assist with the best decisions for our home and fireplace. Very knowledgeable and helpful.

I can't say enough about my experience with Let There Be Light Chimney Sweep. I called John in the middle of a significant snow storm, having lost power in my house, with two babies, and concerned about my gas fireplace readiness for use. John did not hesitate to come out to help. Although we got our power back in a couple of hours, we were well prepared for the ice storm the following day that left us without power for three days. We could not have stayed in our house if John hadn't come out in the middle of the storm. John was also very friendly and provided great education/recommendations about gas fireplaces . John was very nice. He was very busy but still returned my call later in the evening. I was looking to get someone in ASAP since there was a large snow storm coming in 2 days. He added me to the end of his day since on his way home he was going to drive right my my area. He arrived when he said he would and showed me the issues with our fireplace. I have 4 kids and he was very kind and engaging with them and said that our fireplace was not safe and most likely never worked properly to begin with. He made some recommendations and didn't expect an answer that day. John was great and to me I will always call John with my fireplace questions and service.

John was very personable and knowledgeable. He took the time to answer my questions and offer suggestions about improving my fireplace's efficiency. He also referred me to another fireplace professional for a specific task that he himself didn't perform. Very fun to work with, and well qualified. He also accommodated my schedule and was available on short notice, working me into his schedule.

Excellent service, very accommodating! John is very thorough, even on the phone before he even came to my house for the appointment. We have a gas fireplace, haven't used it often, didn't know the last time the chimney was cleaned since we moved in about a year ago. There was black soot on the logs and our house inspector suggested we get the fireplace looked at. John suggested better log placement to minimize the black soot. He cleaned the chimney, no problems. He provided recommendations on how we can use our fireplace with better efficiency - getting a gas insert - which we are likely going to pursue in the near future. Very happy with John's work, his knowledge and professionalism.

John performed a chimney inspection and cleaning of our free standing, wood burning fireplace. He is a true professional. He called to let me know his previous job was running a little late. When he arrived, he was courteous, polite and a true professional. John left our house exactly as he found it. He took the time to explain the nuances of our fireplace and covered clearance requirements unique to our model. If all contractors were like John, we would not need a review service like this. Unfortunately, that is not reality so John gets an A+ from me.

I have a large fireplace in my home office. A big cozy fire warms our office about sixteen hours a day, six days a week. A very heavy creosote build up was obvious. The owner, John Wisnewski, arrived on time and cleaned our over sized chimney thoroughly. I was unable to speak with him that day. I was pleasantly surprised when John followed up by phone. Instead of describing a dire picture of the condition of the fireplace and chimney, he gave me a detailed explanation of what he found, and what he did. I had a few questions which he answered in-depth. Today he is applying a powder which will allow for the least abrasive removal of residual creosote and it will r***** buildup. That will be about $150-200. Without asking, John instructed me on what I can do to prevent heavy creosote buildup in the future, which was very much appreciated. It is rare to find a professional and honest chimney sweep, and especially someone who is well informed and a born educator. I will use Let There Be Light for all future chimney cleaning and repair. Kudos for a great job!

I called Let There Be Light yesterday to request help with inspecting the chimney as I am exploring various options for replacing my current gas fireplace logs. John Wisnewski contacted me later in the day and couldn't have been more pleasant. He spent considerable time listening to me regarding the house setup and fireplace operation in the past. He then reviewed his recommendations based on his personal experience and professional knowledge. I feel much better informed as a result of consulting him

John called ahead and said he was running about ten minutes behind. Not a problem. John quickly introduced himself once I answered the door. John was very professional and laid down a tarp in front of the fireplace as to not get the floor dirty. He was very thorough in both the review and sweeping. He was a pleasure to speak to and deal with. John was coming off the roof and I asked that he take a quick look at the furnace chimney and he did without hesitation. Once up there he noted what I already knew, the chimney needed to be resealed. Fortunately John had the material and time to reseal the furnace chimney and did a spectacular job with it. I was more than happy to pay the difference for the increase scope and was not disappointed with the results. I highly recommend John and will work to schedule to have him back out next year for another cleaning.

The chimney hadn't been cleaned for many years and John did a great job. He was very informative - he answered all my questions and even gave some advises about the issue that we might face with the fireplace (we haven't used it yet). He put a protective layer of fabric around the fireplace so everything was pretty clean after he finished.

I was quoted $190.00 - $225.00. He spent hours cleaning our one chimney. He was very meticulous. We also had a bug problem that he gave me advice on. He also offered (without our having even asked) to check our gas fireplace and found that our flew for our gas fireplace was closed. He opened it immediately and released the carbon monoxide that was trapped behind the glass front of the fireplace. He wrote up a detailed report warning about the dangers of leaving a pilot light on with a closed chimney. He followed up with me that night and walked me through the report he had written up. He was very helpful and potentially saved us from a life threatening situation in the process. He is certified and trustworthy.

Initially John was a little hard to reach due to his busy schedule, but once we were able to talk and I explained my problems, he gave me a rough estimate over the phone and came promptly to perform the work. He worked through all the repairs in one visit, staying about three hours into the late afternoon until the job was completed. I was thoroughly satisfied with his knowledge and skill which he applied flawlessly to complete all of my chimney repairs. In addition, his professionalism, strong work ethic and excellent explanation and communication skills are unusual and definitely worthy of note. I would highly recommend Let There Be Light to anyone needing chimney repairs, whether they be simple or more complicated, as mine were. I'm sure there may be contractors who might charge a little less, but the value for money makes Let There Be light an overall "A" rated service.

John arrived on time and was very professional. He inspected our living room fireplace and flu and determined it to be clean. The venting system to our boiler and hot water heater was filled with debris having not be cleaned in many years. John recommended, as a safety precaution, that we replace the door to our heater room with a louvered door for air circulation. He also gave a recommendation to use a direct-vent gas stove for the oversized fireplace in our family room. I was very pleased with his work and his professional advice.

He takes his time to inspect, clean and repair. He also takes the time to explain what the problems may be and how to correct them. He was respectful of my home and took steps to keep it clean. Besides the pictures he provided, I had further proof of his good work. A roofer inspecting the shingles saw the crown that John repaired and made a point to tell me about what a nice job he did.
