Let There Be Light Chimney Sweep

Did a very good job of cleaning and inspecting our chimney. He was very punctual. Did not rush to complete the work.

John was terrific. I contacted him a few days prior to schedule an appointment. He took down all of my information and addressed all of my concerns that came up during the home inspection process. He first performed a through inspection and cleaning of the chimney, then he placed a chimney cap (there were various options), and he fixed the broken crown. He did a tremendous job and provided a detailed explanation for everything he did. I had a number of questions and John addressed every single one. I certainly plan on using him again in the future and would highly recommend him.

John is great. He conducted a thorough and professional inspection of the existing woodstove in our new house. Sadly it was not correctly installed many years ago and recommended we not use it due to numerous code violations. Not only did he he explain what, but also (and more importantly) why. He provided us with replacement options to consider that will be safe, which we will follow up on. I would recommend his services without hesitation.

This was a very successful consultation and repair. John is very professional, takes great pride in his work, and is extremely knowledgeable. All this was just what we needed. Regarding the original issue, we found at first that the smell was much reduced but not entirely gone; it would occasionally still recur although not as intense. I emailed John and once again he was extremely responsive, calling back that evening to tell us exactly what to try and counseling patience while the chimney dried out. The smell now seems to be completely gone and we're happy to have a refurbished and modernized chimney. I gave Let There Be Light an A rating for price, because I thought the charges seemed fair and reasonable for the work done. However, I did not get other bids and I have not previously used similar services, so I have to qualify this by saying that my opinion on this is subjective.

Extremely thorough. Spent a lot of time and not only assessed condition but also evaluated design. We learned that one fireplace was virtually unusable except with a gas insert stove due to the room design and airflow. The inspector was extremely friendly and was there for a long time. There wasn't a single aspect of the fireplaces and chimneys that he didn't address.

Let There Be Light did a great job. He was professional, thorough, neat and helpful. He shared some tips on how to keep a fire going in the fireplace as well as an easy way to clean the glass doors on my fireplace. I will definitely have him come back again.

PECO discovered that we had draft problems with our water heater chimney and couple contractors offered to reline the chimney for a cost over $2,000. John found the problem, and it was something very simple that was fixed in less than an hour and cost us a tiny fraction of the other offers. It is a pleasure working with a professional that tries to solve the problem and not to rip you off.

John did an excellent job. John is energetic, pleasant and professional. I had a great time speaking with him. He gave me an education on chimney drafts, chimney liners, chimney structures, and chimney operation in general. He told me about a possible issue with air flow in my hvac system, and suggested a simple, inexpensive fix. It worked. Because I knew nothing about chimneys, he could have told me anything about the flue liners. I got the truth from John. He thoroughly examined the liner, told me that it was good, and said that it did not need replacement. He also told me that the chimney was structurally sound and needed only a simple chimney cap. The old one had completely rusted. John replaced it. John's final written report was detailed and restated completely what he had told me as the inspection had progressed. I got exactly what I had hoped--a professional job at a fair price. We finished with a discussion over tall glasses of water with the A/C blasting in my kitchen dining area.

John is punctual, professional, and a pleasure to speak with. I trust the quality of his work and will see him again next year for our annual cleaning. I recommend scheduling a cleaning during the summer because his schedule will surely be packed in the fall/winter.

John is very professional and experienced. He explained everything he was doing and answered all of my questions. He was on time. Actually a little early. He performed what was asked and even informed me on how I can get the most from my fireplace. He explained to me how the flue worked (it was different than what I have seen in the past). I will use John on any future fireplace or chimney services or if I decide to upgrade to a gas insert in the future. I highly recommend John. I wish all contractors did such a thorough job.

Received a call back after my inquiry. Spoke with John for about 20 minutes. I explained that I was having water penetration in my chimney. After explaining in detail, John explained that I had a prefab chimney. He explained in detail how it worked and the potential problem areas. He unfortunately does not work on prefab units. I appreciate his time in explaining the intricacies of the prefab chimney. He was very knowledgeable and professional and I would definitely call him in the future should I need repair on another chimney. Class act gentlemen.

I selected Let There Be Light from on line recommendations including Angie's List. His office called back and answered all of my questions. I requested a copy of his insurance, which was provided prior to work starting. His office called two days before as a reminder. John called from his cell phone about one half hour before arriving. He was on time in the window. He drives a truck painted with his company name. On arrival, he started by inspecting the gas furnace, the gas hot water heater and the clean-out on the bottom of the chimney. Then he put the ladder up and climbed up top for an inspection of the chimney. It was not dirty and liner is in good condition. John recommended pointing and replacement of the crown, plus a cap and coating on the outside. He provided the name of a mason that does this type of work. He then wrote up the entire report and gave me a copy on his excellent form. Throughout the entire process John kept up a running commentary which was both informative and amusing. SPECIAL NOTE: As part of the job, he removed the unused antenna. Thank you!

The project went extremey well, the owner came out to do the work. He knew a lot of good people to help with other projects, and did excellent work on the chimney.

We called John to get a second opinion on the results of an inspection by DJ Cross. John was very responsive and flexible with scheduling. He did a complete inspection and found that no work by a chimney company needed to be done. He did recommend masonry work. He had every opportunity to sell us the same thing recommended by the other company but didn't. Spending $200 on the inspection saved us several thousands in unnecessary repairs.

Just moved into a new home in december 2012 and we have a large fireplace in the center of the home. the damper broke on our first attempt to use the fireplace and it wouldnt close correctly. as a result we were losing a ton of heat from our chimney. I called and spoke with several chimney services and John stood out above them all. He was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, energetic and you can tell that he loves what he does! I don't know about you but when someone actually enjoys their profession the results are typically unequaled... We set up an appointment and John gave me some homework to do so he could be prepared for our visit. he gave me options and a pricing estimate up front, site unseen and was dead on. This guy knows his stuff! I chose to go with a new top spring loaded cap/damper combo and the results were felt almost instantly. We could feel the draw of cold air up the chimney cease as soon as it was installed. When I need any other chimney work done, I will call John!

Excellent, showed up on times, he was delayed as the cap for my house was out of stock, but he called to explain the issue, and update me on his arrival time.

I called Let There Be Light Chimney Sweep for an estimate for work needed on our chimney/furnace/fireplace, and talked to John (the owner)'s wife. She asked a little about what we needed, and said he would call back (in the evening). He called back that night, although he was not able to travel to us to complete the estimate/work, and recommended another chimney sweep (also on Angie's List) that I could contact. I just emailed John, now a couple weeks later, to ask for the contact again (because I had misplaced it), and John's email reply was prompt and gracious.

Excellent! My damper had come off its track and I was unable to use the fireplace. I described the issue and also talked about heat loss through the fireplace. John asked several questions and then suggested a possible solution. He was quite personable and arrived right on time. John fussed with the existing damper and was able to get it back on its track - it was really problematic. He left that damper open and then installed a chimney top damper/chimney cap. The new damper is designed to seal tightly when closed. It is working beautifully. The chimney draws better than ever and I am quite pleased. John wrote a detailed description of what he did and saw. Overall, this was a very positive experience and I highly recommend this company.
