Description of Work: Furnace wouldn't work. Warranty company sent these clowns out and they said it's the igniter. According to them, it's on back order and they have no idea when they'll be able to get it. But if I google the part number it's widely available. I offered to buy one and have them install it and they refused. I offered to pay the difference in price and have them order it from any of the dozens of vendors who have it in stock and they refused. It's snowing today and I don't have heat because American Team sucks. I'm just going to have to order it and install it myself at this point. Oh and also, don't bother leaving a message if they don't pick up. I left several and none were returned.

Description of Work: They were supposed to diagnose our garage door, but they don't have the skill set to do the work. Instead of just admitting they do not have skill set they just keep coming back and charging me through the warranty company. They tell you it is one thing when they are talking to you. Then they turn in different paperwork to the warranty company for work that is not covered by the warranty.

The first three people did a terrible job. The last guy did good. First guy couldn't fix it. Second guy said they had to replace a coil and then cut it too short so that was leaking and then they didn't add a part and that caused more leaks. When I complained enough they sent the last guy out and he fixed it. I was without my AC for most of the summer. I dislike their responsiveness, they did a terrible job, cut it short and showed up without part. When they finally fixed it they fixed it with duct tape. When I complained again it took a few weeks to get the last guy out.
Description of Work: I used AMERICAN TEAM for my AC.

Quick Summary - Despite 2 visits by 2 different technicians, American Team was unable to properly diagnose the source of the problem. - American Team tried to sell us a costly cleaning service that ultimately was unrelated to the true root cause of our problem. - American Team failed to communicate with us as their technician described, leaving us waiting for several days for a response while our heating system continued to experience issues. First Visit American Team was dispatched by our Home Warranty company to service our furnace at the beginning of October. When we first attempted to heat the house, the fan would start but the furnace would not. During the visit, the technician was able to make a fix by cleaning out a line so that the furnace would start again. So far, so good! Second Visit After between one and two weeks, the furnace began having issues again. It would turn on and heat to temperature, then fail to come on for several hours at a time. A different technician was dispatched to evaluate the issue further. This visit did not go well. First, the technician was unable to locate the description of the diagnostic code that the furnace was generating. He could not find the descriptions, usually kept somewhere on the unit itself (A technician from another company later showed me they were on one of the panels) nor could he look them up via his smartphone. He said that his office would have to order the manual. He also stated that he believed we needed the evaporator coil to be cleaned, that this would likely not be covered by the warranty, and that American Team would be sending us a letter outlining the cost of the repair and what steps needed to be taken. After several days waiting for this letter, we called American Team to follow up. The first person who answered the phone said she would reach out to the technician for an update and call us back. After several more hours with no return phone call, we called again. The second person who answered the phone told us that American Team does not send out letters, the coil needed to be cleaned, and we could have it scheduled whenever we wanted. It would take several hours to complete and would not be covered by our home warranty. After speaking with our Home Warranty, who told us that they would still cover our furnace even if another company performed the coil cleaning, we called around for a 2nd opinion. It turned out that the root cause was a failed controller board, and that there was no issue with the evaporator coil. Had we listened to American Team we would have bought an expensive cleaning service that we did not need, and we still would have issues with our furnace.
Description of Work: American Team was dispatched twice by our Home Warranty company to evaluate and fix our furnace. Our furnace was having an issue periodically where it would not turn on when the thermostat called for heat, sometimes for several hours to a day at a time. The first visit was in early October; the issue appeared to be resolved. However, it re-occurred after several weeks, so American Team sent a technician out again on November 3.

We contacted our homeowners warranty company, American Home Shield and they assigned American Team to check out and repair our broken attic fan. I was a little concerned about the company after reviewing some of the mixed reviews on Angie's list. However, we were very pleasantly surprised with our experience. We were contacted within a very short period of time by a very pleasant person who was sensitive to our need for an early morning appointment, which she arranged for the following day. The repair technician called ahead and was even early which worked out well for us. He went into our attic and discovered a burned out attic fan motor and told us we needed a new one, which he actually carried on his truck so he could replace it immediately. It took him about 15 minutes and we were all on our way. The total cost was $75.00 for the visit. We appreciated the service we received from American Team and would be glad if they were assigned to us again. We have had good luck with American Home Shield over a ten-year period and plan to keep our policy in force.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced attic fan.

I received a call directly from Bud, the owner of the American Team who said that he would personally call the warranty co. explain the situation, and give them his recommendation for resolution to the problem. He called me back a few days later to let me know that because the system had been compromised by the hybrid refrigerant, he got the warranty co. to agree to replace my condenser or heat pump completely, replace the evaporation coil in my air handler and install the latest R410 refrigerant that is environmentally friendly and inexpensive to add in the future if the need should arise. The old system was removed and new install completed in about 3 hours. The technicians were prompt, efficient and courteous. I am grateful to owner Bud and AMERICAN TEAM for exceeding my expectations in resolving my HVAC problem. My heating system is finally operating properly, my energy costs are back to normal which has provided peace of mind and one happy client. AMERICAN TEAM will be my HVAC contractor of choice in the future. I highly recommend that they be yours also.
Description of Work: I had a service contract with a home warranty company for 10 years.. My condensing unit (heat pump) and air handler were serviced periodically over that time period. Both failed at different times in 2012 /2013 and were replaced by a warranty company service contractor. The contractor installed a hybrid or drop in refrigerant when they did the installation. I found out later that this hybrid refrigerant is not recommended by manufacturers. The result was a system that never worked properly. The condenser froze up constantly, prompting the emergency heat to engage, which if you have an all electric heating system you know, significantly raises your electric bill. After over a year of trying to get the system to perform correctly and many calls to the warranty co. I demanded that a different contractor be sent out. The new contractor was AMERICAN TEAM from Warminster PA. After their first visit to diagnose the problem, they determined that the problem was caused by the hybrid, non- recommended refrigerant. .

The people who answered the phone were rude. They were prompt, but rude. They sent two technicians, neither of whom got our heater to work. The first technician diagnosed a bad blower motor on Zone 1 and thought he had fixed a Zone 2 heater. 1 hour after he left bothunits were still down. The second technician came back to replace the blower motor on Zone 1. He noted when replacing the blower that there was a fair amount of flame roll-out from the heater exhangers. I asked him if he could diagnose or fix the problem. He said he was only there to replace the blower motor and wouldn't look further, the only think he could recommend was to get a carbon monoxide meter and if the there was a problem later call back. He looked at Zone 2 and said he couldn't even diagnose the problem unless we removed the ceiling (Zone 2 is mounted in a very small crawl space). None of this made sense to me, so we made arrangements for another contractor who a) condemned the Zone 1 unit (there were cracks on both sides of four heat exhanger tubes) a cracked flue collector cover and other problems. He also diagnosed the Zone 2 problem - simply a bad braker - we didn't need to remove the ceiling at all - it was fixed in 20 minutes.

They came out quickly and on time. The worker was courteous. Everything was fine for a few months, then we found that the duct work around the heater was coming apart. They sent someone out who fixed it, and said it was their fault. They did not charge for the repair. When it came to the winter, I had my normal hvac guy go out to inspect the heater and do a cleaning before the winter. He said that their were code violations and fire hazards by the way they installed the unit. I was so fed up with American Team, that I just had my heater guy make the appropriate corrections, and paid the $600 bill to have it fixed by him.
Description of Work: They came out to do warranty work on my air conditioner through the home warranty company.. We worked out a deal to replace both the HVAC system and air conditioner. Their price came in better than my normal heater guy.

American Team is the contractor assigned by my home warranty company. When my A/C stopped working during a heatwave in july, we called the warranty company and they sent American team who diagnosed that the unit needed to be replaced. With the warranty company in the middle it took a week to get the replacement equipment approved and shipped to the local supplier for pick up and install by American Team. American team was relatively responsive to my many calls durng that week in trying to nail down an installation date, although the person who answers the phone does occaisionally sound like she is annoyed...the owner Bud did speak with me once and was very professional in explaining the sequence of events, how things would work and approximate timeing which turned out to be accurate. The installer Jose was very knowledgeable, personable and professional and seemed to care about the quality of his work. I was very pleased with the actual installation which was within the promisd timeframe.

I don't know who answers the phone at American Team, but she needs an attitude adjustment. She was snippy and rude, telling me I'm not supposed to call her and that she is supposed to call me. (They are the vendor my home warrantee company selected). I also did not receive a call to confirm they were coming on the day of service. The contractor arrived 45 minutes before the end of the 4-hour window and spoke barely above a whisper. I had to ask him several times to speak up (I do not have any known hearing deficits). He asked me for some basic details about the machine which, I admit, I didn't know and each time and he acted annoyed. He also seemed in a rush to get back to a cell phone call with someone else he took while working on my job. After about 10 minutes, he showed me a dirty filter and told me that was the problem. He assured me in "a little while" the AC would be blowing cold air again and my family and I could ditch our air mattresses down stairs and return to our upstairs bedrooms tonight. It's now three hours since he was here. The AC is blowing warm air still, and the temperature up there has actually gone up two degrees rather than down. No one is answering the phone at American Team Inc.'s offices (they don't have a service for emergency calls?). I called them at 4:40 p.m. and I guess they were gone for the day. Meanwhile, my home warrantee company tells me they will call me tomorrow to schedule another appointment with the same vendor (American Team). I already took a day away from work to deal with this, and now I have to take another. It would have been nice if the guy could have stuck around for a few minutes to make sure what he thought was wrong was actually the problem.
Description of Work: American Team sent someone out to find out why the central air conditioning on the second floor of my home was only blowing hot air, leaving the temperature of my second floor ranging between 82 and 87 degrees during a heat wave.

The company was contacted by my home warranty company for an estimate to fix an outlet in the kitchen that had no power to it. The refrigerator was plugged into this outlet so it was important for it to have power. Their technician, TJ, came to check the outlet and he couldn't have been more professional and courteous. He checked everything possible, even going up into the attic crawl space to follow the wiring to try and locate where the problem was. He finally diagnosed the problem after an hour of hard work ,and I did schedule him to come back the following week. Also, I got a very reasonable estimate to do the work the kitchen. Eventhough I didn't use American Team to fix the problem (my contractor was planning to come and do some major work on the property, and he said he'd do the rewiring since he was going to be there anyway)....I would highly recommend this company and especially their technician, TJ.
Description of Work: Only was givien an estimate. No service was performed. Only paid for the service call.

The original install was good, he cleaned up the area very well. A month or so later when the furnace was in regular use and I needed to change the filter. I couldn't find it and some of the fellas tried helping over the phone. Since there were other questions and an issue I had they send another tech out and he was great!. He was very patient in explaining how the unit works, he fixed the noisy expansion issue and created the clip needed to hold the filter in place during the furnace blower operation. Over all the experience was OK. But sending out the second tech with more experience who was capable to explain things to my satisfaction made the experience great.
Description of Work: My furnace was inspected by another company and red flagged due to CO2 leaking when the unit ran. I have a homeowners warranty and this was the company they sent out. A new furnace was installed, I rec'd a much more energy efficient model. I was not able to choose the model or vendor since this was a home warranty replacement.

American Team's did a great job replacing my garage door opener which was covered by my home warranty. The technician that was sent out by the company, TJ, was very polite, professional and prompt. He installed the garage door opener and explained everything about the system and cleaned up before he left. I would definitely use them again.
