Description of Work: We had dampness in the basement. So we got estimates from two companies for in basement work, and we also checked with our long term plumber (Kennihan) about the problem. It turned out tree roots were plugging up our outside drains. Kennihans fixed the drains with quality work as usual. We were glad no work inside was necessary.

Description of Work: It was $135 for the furnace check. At that time it was discovered that my aqua stat was about to go. I asked for a quote for this. Next day I got a call from the office stating $657. I told them I would check with my brother (who we purchased the furnace from when he did residential heating...he now only does commercial). I checked with my brother and found the $657 price was about $200-$250 higher than should be. He recommended a second opinion from another service. In the meantime, a close friend of mine passed away and that delayed all of this. A few weeks later we woke up to a cold house because the aqua stat blew! No time to call anyone else and knowing people who service boilers that UDR heating oil, I called Kennihan. They scrambled to get the part and had the same guy (Ed) come that afternoon. He had the furnace up and running in less than an hour. He showed me the old, blown aqua stat. Yikes! ... Kennihan may cost more but you do get what you pay for. They were great and I appreciate them!

Description of Work: Kennihan answered our emergency call on a holiday weekend - hot water tank was leaking. It's a long story, but our problem was compounded by a clogged vent pipe. We were given several repair options and decided on a tankless hot water heater. As a Kennihan customer, I have always been satisfied with the service and courtesy of their employees. However, this experience was unlike any other. After four different appointments by your technicians and despite a bill of $2827, my less than four year old unit was still not working. As per our phone conversation, you and Lennox agreed to install an Elite unit at cost, plus installation ($500). The problem was - I believed you. Imagine my surprise when your technician presented me with a bill of $2139. This was $639 more than you stated on the phone the previous day. After a short discussion with you again, I agreed to pay the amount out of exasperation and desperation. In a little over two weeks, I had paid you $4966 for a unit that was still under warranty. Regardless of whether it was faulty original equipment, inept analysis, bad replacement parts, or a worse scenario – intentionally running up labor costs; I do not know. I have been in contact with Kennihan's but nothing has been resolved and feel that both integrity and competence are severly lacking in this company.
Description of Work: In December of 2007, I purchased a Signature Collection XP 15 unit. Unfortunately, I have had repeated problems. The latest was the most serious. The unit was still under warranty, but the labor was not. The first visit from Kennihan’s Plumbing and Heating, Butler, PA, was to replace a burned contactor ($363). The unit would still not operate. The second visit was to replace the control board ($467). The unit would still not operate. The technician was advised by your company to replace the compressor. He did this on the third visit, but it still did not work. He was again advised by Lennox to replace the compressor again because it was determined the replacement compressor was faulty. On the fourth visit, another new compressor was installed, but still the unit was not functional ($1,997) for both compressor installations. The tech was once again advised to replace the compressor and install a reversing value. At this point, the definition of insanity comes to mind – doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result. The tech, the owner of Kennihan and myself all agreed the unit should be replaced. I received a call from Kennihan’s the following day suggesting that he would replace the Signature with the Elite (less efficient) unit at cost plus installation.(unit cost of $1000 + labor $500) I asked if he could talk with the Lennox representative Ed Cantre, and see if he could reimburse me something for the four previous visits or simply replace the unit free of charge. Remember that the original unit was not yet four years old. Mr. Cantre refused to help in any way. He also refused to call and discuss anything about my problem. The actual bill your tech presented to me after installing the less efficient unit was $2139. Due to the excessive temperatures and a special needs child who can not tolerate heat, I reluctantly agreed and paid $2139.

I'm not quite sure we are on the same page. We did not install the original unit, but agreed to work with you within the parameters of your original warranty. (I'm not sure why you didn't call the people who installed the unit, but we are always happy to help) A couple things, first, you are confused about the efficiency of the new unit that Lennox gave to you at cost, and we passed that along. The new unit is actually more efficient than the old unit. If you would like, we can send you the technical specifications of each for comparison. Secondly, when the phone conversation happened about the replacement labor cost, it was discussed of all the things involved to accomplish, and that it would be somewhere between $500 and $1000 to complete. The final labor bill was around $950, which fell within the discussed number, although not the $500 that you took away from the conversation. Lastly, your reference to the lack of engagement on Lennox's side is just that. We took on this project at your request even though we were not the original installer. We did as much through the warranty that you originally had with Lennox as we could. Lennox supplied a new unit at a discount, and we passes that exact cost onto you without charging our handling cost or margin. In return for our effort to get you back up and running on a problem that should have been between the original installation and Lennox, we get a one sided review from you. I only wish that Lennox had an Angie's list review page so that your anger could be focused on where you felt the problem was instead of the guys that tried to help..

My furnace and heat pump were almost 21 years old and on their last leg. My wife and I wanted to take advantage of the Tax credit for 2010 and started getting quotes. Unfortunately my wife passed away in November while couragesly fighting Breast Cancer, so getting a furnace replaced was not the first thing on my mind. I kept the quotes we got handy for someday down the road. I received tempting offers in the mail but I kept on putting it on the back burner. Well the old furnace started acting up; it was still running but worrying me here in the middle of winter. I had lunch wih a couple of friends who were trying to cheer me up a little bit and I had mentioned my concerns with my furnace, I told them about the ads I got in the mail incuding Kennihans and my one friend said he had switched to them a couple of years ago and was very satisfied. I gave them a call. Phone staff were very nice and proffesional and promised to send Bill (owner) over as soon as possible. Bill was very nice to deal with. he checked all aspects of my heating and cooling system, and I explained to him what I was interested in. I wanted a good system but I did not want to go overboard since I don't know how long I'll stay in this big home. I also told him I hated the Heat Pump and would prefer an A/C unit instead. Bill's offer and suggestions were right on point, he did not try to push anything on me and explained the entire process in laymen terms. Also, his price was a few thousand dollars under my last quote! Of course I signed on the dotted line and Bill set up the install. Staff called and scheduled the appointments. They came right on time and after full explanation of what they were going to do they went to work. The install went smooth. Barry and his Techs (Zach and I think Chevy) were great.Friendly and profesional. They cleaned up everything when done and went over new units explaing everything. They installed the furmnace one day, and the A/C unit on another day. The furnace is quit and puts out nice warm air. I already see the effects of the Air cleaner, much less dust. They will setup the A/C unit in the spring...too darn cold now. If anything new comes up I will amend this.
Description of Work: Kennihans installed a 95% efficient 90,000 BTU dual stage gas saver furnace with an air cleaner and a 14 SEER A/C unit, and new digital thermostat. Also, Included was a 10 year parts and labor warranty.

Not a happy camper but the problem was finally corrected for an inflated bill.
Description of Work: First diagnosis incorrect - waited for incorrect parts. Next visit gave proper diagnosis. Took three trips with parts to finally get one that worked. Then was grossly overcharged for the component according to online research.

I have been using them for many years. We had a heater problem this time around. They’ve done other work for us that have been great but the latest job was not up to the mark. We paid $100 for the inspection, and I think that the price is typical. They came out when they were supposed to. I may not use them for heating in the future.

Worker was very courteous. He checked bathroom and area below tub for moisture and explained that the moisture was minimal. He suggested the cause was probably due to poor caulking around tub area. I told him I would do that myself. He also suggested using a pen to trace around the stain on garage ceiling to be able to determine an increase is moisture. I was very pleased that problem was only minor and the honesty. It did take a couple days for them to come out to house though, but I was okay with that.
Description of Work: I was concerned about a water spot appearing on garage ceiling in addition to peeling paint in same area. Spot is below main bathroom.
