They put in a very efficient boiler for my 1960's house. I was astounded at how efficient it is! It has cut our heating bill down by 90%. We could not be happier!

WHAT A DISASTER!!!!! My husband called & was quoted $87 for the visit plus $15 every 15 minutes. He was told(at 12:30 pm) that they would be at our house within 2 hours. They called and said that they were running behind & would be here by 4:30. They arrived at 4:20. The technician was here for 25 minutes & the final charge was $ 265.50. He left debris on the floor surrounding the drain & informed my son that he pulled a broken laundry basket handle out of the drain. The handle was on top of our washing machine & nowhere near the drain. GREATLY OUTRAGED!!!!! We had our ENTIRE septic system flushed for $275 & it cost us $9.50 less to UNCLOG a simple drain. BUYER BEWARE!!!!
Description of Work: The drain in our laundry room was clogged. The company that flushed our septic recommended that we have the drain electric eeled. Unfortunately they were unavailable. Kennihan was called & electric eeled the drain.

I have used Kennihan for over 10 years have been very satisfied. They are always on time, professional and available in emergencies. Over the years they have installed furnaces, water heaters and bathroom exhaust fans and I have been satisfied with all the work. This event began as a routine check up when they found a crack in the heat exchanger, needed a new furnace. This all took place 5 days before Christmas. The service man started immediately rounding up the furnace an parts he would need. Started Friday and finished Saturday. I was extremely happy with his work, cleaned up, couldn't ask for more. New A/C to be installed in April ( $3000 )

Kennihan is an excellent company, they have a high level of professionalism. They left everything clean, wore shoe covers in house, and were very polite. They found issues with original pipes, and fixed problems I’d been having for years with overflowing water. Then they took me outside and explained everything that happened with the pipes and original tank. I would rather pay more to have the work done right.
Description of Work: I had a hot water tank installed by an inferior company. When things started to go wrong, I called Kennihan. They came in and fixed it and corrected all issues.

I have used Kennihan's prior to this date. When I initially spoke to the person handling the phones, I was told that just the "diagnostic check" would be $125.00. I did not need a "diagnostic check". I already knew what the issue was. The cleaning of the furnace vent was an item which needed to be corrected for a home inspection. I explained that on the phone. The lady started talking about "diagnosing" the problem and possibly using "cameras" to correct the issue. Even though they were quite expensive, I elected to use their service again due to their reliability. I made an appointment for 1:00 p.m. At 2:00 p.m., the company called me and stated that the EARLIEST a technician could arrive at my house would be 5:00 p.m. Needless to say, I cancelled the appointment. I found another HVAC company that sent a technician ON TIME and cleaned the vent AS I STATED without the "diagnostic check" and the use of "cameras". I saved a good bit of money. Unfortunately, I could not get back the time I WASTED with Kennihan's. I will never use this company again.

I reviewed with our customer service reps your call. According to the file, we had set up an afternoon appointment with a phone call 1/2 hour before arriving on location. Reviewing the initial call, there was a request to clean out a birds nest found by a home inspection. Yes, we have a $125 fee that gets the truck, the technician, all the tools, the insurance, the training, to the job site and allows for time to completely review the situation. In your particular case, it was requested that you have 1/2 hour call before coming out. When dispatch found it would be in the late afternoon, they called to let you know that. You chose to get angry with the girls, and they apologized the best they could. After speaking with you on the phone, you admitted that it was not a schedule 1:00 call, and that the girls had set up a 1/2 hr call before the technician got there. As far as just "cleaning the vent", although the home inspector found that, we would have checked to make sure the clogged vent had not caused a safety issue with the furnace, as part of the $125. So, as you would admit, there is more to this than outlined here. Although we cannot always guarantee a specific time, the guys go through extensive training to make sure each and every call is reviewed for safety first, and then efficiency. Although I am disappointed of the review you have given us, I respect the fact that anyone can go online and make comments instead of making contact with the people they are working with. I thought the girls handled it the best they could at the time, and I hope you don't use this medium for all your displeasure.

The service provided for $265 was routine cleaning and maintenance of my furnace and air conditioning. No issues with the service. As the technician was in my basement, he noticed that it was damp and advised me that his company offered a 30 day free trial on an Aprilaire Dehumidifer. He suggested I call the company for more info. I did an internet search and found that I could purchase an Aprilaire 1700A for $1150 online with free shipping. This is a portable unit. I called Kennihan the next day and was told that if I were to purchase an Aprilaire 1700A model from them installed, the cost was $3200. This is a portable model....it gets carried down into the basement, plugged in and the units drain must be placed into a floor drain. I guess if you can make that kind of profit, good for you......Buyer Beware! I purchased the unit online. It's an excellent dehumidifier and would highly recommend it. But not for $3200.

Just a couple of notes for clarification. Online, you will find a variety of things that may seem to be the same as what you are buying locally, but really are not. The current model that you are looking for is a 1710, not the 1700a you purchased online. They have not made them for years. Also, there must have been some confusion when you where talking with the technician. The price that was quoted was for a whole house, convertible unit, which is connected to the ductwork, brings in outside fresh air, monitors the air in both the upstairs and downstairs. The one you looked up online is a portable unit that is tied to a drain. We sell them everyday for approx. $1500-$1600 with a 5 year warranty. Again, it is the 1710 which is the current model. I know everything you read online has to be true, but sometimes, clarification with a local vendor goes a long way instead of putting an online review with incorrect information. If you have any issues with your current online purchase, ours comes with a 5 year warranty handled locally.

We initially hoped to complete this simple project ourselves but found it impossible to shut our gas service off at the meter. Unable to safely shut off the gas and complete the job I contacted plumbers in the area. I was in need of a quick response since we were hoping to get the pipe removed ahead of work we had all ready scheduled on the floors. Kennihans secretary listened to my description of the situation and kept insisiting that our inability to completely shut off the gas meant we had a gas leak. I explained several times that there was no gas leak and therefore there was no unsafe situtation at the house. The discussion continued for several minutes and although I appreciate the employee's concern it was a frustrating conversation. Happily Kennihans was able to send a Plumber out the following day to do the work. After struggling to get the gas off the plumber determined that installing an indoor shut off to the gas service would be the best scenario. Unfortunately that would be too big a job to complete at short notice. In the meantime he offered to simply remove the pipe that went through the floor. I figured this was a good temporary solution and told him to proceed. As this discussion progressed and after learning we had recently bought the home, the plumber informed me that my boiler is in terrible shape and needs a diagnostic test that only he can provide to be sure it isnt a danger...he let me know that the company I had hired to come service the boiler the following week were hacks who would do nothing more than wipe the boiler with a rag. He tried to sell me an expensive wall unit bolier to replace my seriously damaged one, and finally tried to talk me out of my future plans to install a non gas supplementary heating system. What wasn't explained was that an $86 ish fee to visit and diagnose the problem would be automatically charged. This was a sort of deposit on the future work of installing the valve so long as i scheduled the valve work in the "next month or so..." The break down is as follows. $86 diagnostic fee (to be waived if i hired them to instal a valve) $200 to shut off the gas and remove two feet of pipe. There were no parts provided and the job (once the gas was shut off) took 20 minutes.
Description of Work: Kennihan shut off gas, removed a piece of pipe that went through the floor to connect to a previously removed gas fireplace.

I have used another provider to service my furnace/air conditioner, and have a yearly contract with them to do this. One of the servicemen from Kennihan repeatedly told me that all I was getting from this other provider was a "cleaning" of the furnace and air conditioner. He told me that the service was not worth the money I was paying. Can you believe he handed me a bill for $495.00, as if his service was a bargain?
Description of Work: I had service from Kennihan Plumbing last week. Two plumbers addressed four issues (three pop-ups and one gasket), and charged me nearly $500.00. Additionally, one of them asked who normally serviced my furnace and air conditioner. He informed me that the only thing I got for my money was a "cleaning," and that I didn't get a good value. After getting the bill from this individual, I wondered how good of a value I got from Kennihan. I believe the degrading of the other business was unprofessional as it was unsolicited. The next time I need a plumber, I will use a different service.

I believe if you look at all the items you had us work on, which included multiple drain assemblies, a faucet, checking water pressure and operation of expansion tank, which the guys spent some time educating you on the operation and ways you can check your expansion tank on your own, you will find that the bill was appropriate. As far as the conversation on the furnace, I spoke with the technician, and what he was describing to you, and that many customers do not know, is that most companies only do a quick check on the furnace which is basically looking it over to make sure there aren't any parts hanging off. How he knew that right away was our technicians are trained to put test ports in both the return air and the supply air ducts, which would have blue test plugs in them. Additionally, the flu or chimney would also have a blue test plug. Our advance training techniques allow our technicians to run a series of tests which includes a combustion analysis, to test your system to make sure its not only running safely, but efficiently. Feel free to take this information and ask your current service provider if they can give you a copy of the test results. I feel pretty confident they can't. So, in conclusion, when he pointed out that what you were getting was a cleaning, it was not to degrade you current provider, but to show you what level of advanced system checks are out there. If you are interested, our complete diagnostic check up costs $125, and there are coupons out there for $99

Kennihans could TEACH a class on customer service. What a find and what a blessing they turned out to be! We were eating breakfast at a restaurant, saw the Kennihan van and found Herb. We had purchased a home that was not completed, and needed plumbing and heating; there was no ductwork or hot water tank. I couldn't have asked for more prompt, professional service. We were informed up front that their price might be higher. However, after they started, we saw that the price was justified due to superior materials and workmanship. Their suggestions were invaluable, and they followed through with everything they had agreed to plus more. The technicians were personable, responsible, and trustworthy. Kennihans exceeded our expectations and we would give them our finest recommendation. We are indeed thankful that we made the right choice. By the way, the basement was cleaner when they left than when they came.

The installation went well. We have used them several times. Some things have gone well and some things that did not go so well. The installer was professional and knowledgeable. He did a very good install. I needed to watch out on their pricing. We called them back to install the thermostat and they wanted to charge $450. I looked up the cost of the thermostat and it was only $50 I think that is price gouging. I had a problem with another furnace and they came out and installed the wrong parts. I will use them again, but I have to watch out for them.

were hundreds and hundreds of dollars of dollars LESS really shocked me. I am SO glad I had enough common sense to search for other price quotes. For these reasons , I simply would not call this company again for assistance. Their initial "visitation" charge and service charges are simply unaffordable , in my hunble opinion. Others may disagree. I am a "senior". When I asked if there was a senior's discount , I was told , "Oh no. !"
Description of Work: Initially I called the company thinking that the problem with my water well was electrical in nature. As it turned out, it was not. As with many companies today , I suppose , there are NO "free" estimates. So be very CAREFUL and listen to the phone rep's DETAILS as to just how much you will be charged. With this company there is a charge FIRST for a tech's showing up at your place , and THEN a "service" charge. So be prepared for both. I did NOT question these charges , and I regretted it later. So that was completely MY fault , you must understand. The company rep finally was able to determine exactly what my problem was and gave me an estimate for the job. I was STUNNED , to say the least. I could NOT believe it was so high !!! Foolishly, I agreed to let the company do the job, thinking I had no choice. Again, my mistake. Then , after reconsidering , I canceled---mainly because the bid was so high. I decided to call some other local companies who do this type of work---pulling and replacing water pumps---and got quotes OVER THE PHONE that were (literally) hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of dollars LOWER. I could NOT believe it. The company who I finally contracted to do the job , finished it within two hours at a cost that was $1500 LOWER that the LOWEST bid the Kennihan fellow gave me !!! Again, total SHOCK and relief. Understand again that I totally blame MYSELF for not paying attention to just how much the SERVICE CALL might cost me. This was made very clear over the phone in my initial contact with the company. Still I was stunned as to how much that charge alone was. THEN, to receive other bids (over the PHONE) that

(deleted member name). I'm glad to see your description of the initial phone call. We pride ourselves on being completely up front with our pricing. The girls at the front desk did exactly what we ask of them, they gave you the cost for us to drive to your location, (which includes truck, insurance, tools, personnel, etc.). In addition, the invoice included the time to check the system out, which included troubleshooting, electrical checks, etc. The technician then described the problem in detail, and gave you up front pricing for solutions. You then took the information you had gained from the trained technician, called around with that newly gained data, and were given price estimates over the phone after someone else had done the work to troubleshoot the system. I can assure you, if your vehicle is making a "clunking" noise, and you call the dealer, it would be difficult for them to give you a price over the phone. But if you take your vehicle to the dealer, and then have the problem troubleshot, then call around to other dealers and tell them exactly what was found wrong and could they give a price, I'm sure you could get a lot of takers to give pricing over the phone. I'm glad you go it taken care of. I wish we were able to complete the job for you, but I understand that everyone needs to watch their pennies now days. In the future, we'll always give the pricing for the troubleshooting up front, and give you the pricing for the repair. Can't tell you that you will always like the pricing, but we will always give you, the customer, options and choices. Although I am disappointed in the grade you gave the review, and I wish you would have graded the troubleshooting work the technician did, (which, since it helped the other company fix the problem so quickly, I would assume would be an "A"), I understand how the review system works. Sometimes, I wish we could "review" the customers though.

We used Kennihan originally to test the quality of the water coming from our well. This test cost $450. At the time no one else was available so we decided to pay the high price. We were told we would get a detailed report within 1 week of the appointment. During said appointment we were told we needed a new pressure tank and were quoted around $950 so we schedule the next appointment for the am within the next week. I waited all day and then got rescheduled for the next day in the am. I waited again all day and when the tech person got here, he didn't have the right parts and told us the first tech quoted us wrong and it was going to cost $450 more for a bigger tank. So I got rescheduled for the next day in the morning and they didn't show up until 5pm. Then after they left we were having problems with no water pressure when our well pump kicked on. So I had to call back the next day and have them come out. The tech who installed the tank did not put the correct pressure in the tank and the tech repairing it tried to tell us that we had another issue with our water and were in need of pulling up our 390 foot well pipe and needed to replace pipe and the pump and that it would be between $3,400-$4,000 and it might not even fix the problem but that was where to start. At this point we decided to contact someone else. This all went on for about a month and after 5 weeks of waiting for the report on our water quality, I called for the second time requesting it and did not get a good response from the administrator. She was rude and told me they had sent it and were doing me a favor to send the report again. After 6 weeks we finally got the report and it was just a letter head paper with the item tested and a number (ex. iron...156) Then they called and asked if were ready to schedule the $3,400 job. We were not pleased.

Very expensive even though Trane Central Air Conditioning was under warranty. Also I was told that the freon is the original, not the new safe for the environment kind. Then informed by Kennihan that if this unit breaks down again the whoie unit will need replaced because the old type freon will no longer be available.
Description of Work: Price seemed very expensive. Trane Furnace & Central Air Conditioner was installed by this company & was under warranty. I was told the compressor needed replaced & then freon added. I was given a choice, they could hard start the original compressor & pay $225.00 to send the compressor that they ordered back (which they said Trane did not recommend) or the other option was to replace the compressor & add freon for a total of $649.00. The compressor was under warranty, so this was the price for the freon $649.00. None of this included the original $125.00 service call. We ended up paying almost $800.00 for an item under warranty.Wouldn't recommend this company.

Member, I am sorry to hear of your disappointment. I reviewed the file, and found a few things. First, the unit has not been serviced since 2008. When the technician arrived for the diagnosis, he noted on the invoice that the filter was plugged solid with dirt. A simple as it sounds, the #1 reason for a failure in a compressor is air restriction due to dirty filters. Although the manufacturers warranty requires filter changes and yearly maintenance, we still accomplished the work and got the compressor and labor paid for. Any time a unit has a major failure like the one you have gone through, it is disappointing. We work the best we can with the manufacturer and the customer to facilitate the warranty process, but still take the blame when a customer is not satisfied. Please let me know what else we can do to try and make our part of the process less painless. Thanks, Jerry

Member, I apologize, but I can assure you we are here. Since you are local, you do realize we had a storm come through last week that had power out in our area for 3 days. During that time, we were retrieving calls from multiple customers, so I'm pretty sure the phones were not out of service, but we were working on generator power. A quote was sent on 7/10/12, and after you had not received, we are resending a copy. I'm not sure which email you sent to, but I can assure you, customers everyday reach us by email, phone, etc. We are one of the few companies in PA to offer this type of testing, which does a complete analysis on the air in your home. As a courtesy, we do remove the charges for the testing equipment when the solution is corrected using the suggestions in your quote. Although we are always disappointed when someone leaves a comment similar to what has been left, we are glad that we can offer solutions to your unique issues. We will follow up with you again shortly.

The job went over very good. They were prompt and we have had no problems. The plumbing all works and they also provided good service. The price was relatively cheap too.

The first time they came out it cost about $800 and the second time they came it cost about $250. They are good but are a little pricey. Overall they are okay.
