After hearing that Angie’s list was free I logged in and found several local Masonry Companies. I called Sabol Masonry Inc. and scheduled a meeting with Paul Sabol that weekend who called me the day of the appointment and showed up on time! Two things that hadn’t happened in two years of calling Masonry Companies! Two weeks later Linda called and said there was an opening and they could start in a couple of days which was great for us. While making the repairs they found that the chimney was worse than originally expected, that the chimney liner was deteriorating and mortar crown was cracking and the mortar was cracking out from the brick on the back side of the chimney. Sabol Masonry did a great job the chimney after repairs was a work of art, they were very good at matching the mortar color, the cost was very fair the clean-up was great and there was plenty of dust but that washed off with water. We are really happy with the work they did so happy that I plan to have Sabol Masonry Inc. return next year to replace the lintel over the garage door.

The guys at Sabol gave a fare bid, came out and spent a few days taring down the top of the chimney and building it back up right. They saved as much of the brick as they could so the new work looked the same as the old. In fact just looking at the chimney it only reason you might suspect we had the work done is because there is no lean.
Description of Work: We needed some chimney work done. the chimney had a terrible lean to it and it would leak when it rained just right.

As promised, Paul (the owner) and a small army of workers arrived promptly at 8:00 a.m. The crew got right to work setting up ladders and scaffolding. For two days they re-pointed the bricks on our house and garage. Paul walked around the house to show us where and what his crew would be doing. He was very professional and personable. He told us that they wouldn’t finish until everything was done and we were completely happy. One of the main areas that had to be addressed was two capstones that rest on a small wall. Originally, we thought the capstones had shifted and needed to be removed and re-installed. Once Paul’s crew got up there, they found that it wasn’t the stones that had shifted, it was actually the whole wall that had bowed forward. Paul decided the right thing to do was to pull off the capstones and most of the small wall and rebuild the entire thing. Amazingly enough, he said they’d do that at no additional cost - WOW! We liked these guys more and more as the day went on. Another nice surprise was how well they kept the job site organized and clean. Given how much dust they created while grinding out the joints, we were happy with their clean-up at the end of the day. All the tools they left overnight were neatly arranged in a corner of our lawn and they washed all the leftover mortar off the house and sidewalks. By the end of the second day, all the brick work was finished and the crew had cleaned up. True to their word, they didn’t finish until we were satisfied. Can’t say enough good things about Sabol Masonry: great service, friendly people, and a very competitive price. If you need brick work done in Pittsburgh, they’re the place to go!
Description of Work: Our entire house needed major re-pointing work.

Sabol Masonry did an excellent job at a reasonable price. The chimney measured about 15 ft high from grade, 7 1/2 ft wide and 22 inches outward from the house. The first day of work was demolition. They removed the top 22 to 23 courses of brick (about 5 feet) to get to a solid base of undamaged brick for the rebuild The second and third days were rebuild using 7 5/8 inch long brick having the same bark texture as the original 8 inch brick. The crew did an excellent job of accommodating the slightly shorter brick lengths as you really can't tell that they are different from the original bricks in the final result. They were also very accommodating in applying color tint to the new brick to match that of the original bricks. This project results in lots of small brick and mortar pieces resulting from the demolition stage, and mortar drippings during the rebuild. They did a great job of cleanup.

Paul gave me an estimate and time when they could do the job. They came out when they said they would. We had several places on the outside of our house where the mortar was cracked due to settling. Paul's son ground away the old mortar and re-pointed the brick, matching the color of the original mortar. Very nice job.

Called Sabol Masonry today June 28 just to get an estimate. Linda answered promptly but after about two sentences I got the impression they just don't want the job. It sounds like they are just too busy to take on new work. When I told her my location (about 20-ish miles, maybe 1/2 hour from their location) first she said it was too far. Then when I told her what turnpike exit I was near, she said that wasn't too bad -- but she didn't know when someone could come even to look and give an estimate. Said something about they have been held back by rain in April and May. I guess they have all the work they can handle. Oh well.
Description of Work: I need chimney repointing for 5 or 6 courses at the top, and replacement of one brick. It's not an emergency but I need to get this done this summer, before roofers can replace my roof which is leaking. Beyond all that I need repointing and repair on a brick porch.

I first contacted Sabol Masonry in August, but they said they were booked so they would give me a call in September. I said that was fine because this was no rush. Then September arrived and I hadn't heard anything, so I called them on September 18th. I spoke with Linda and she said I was on the schedule, and that she would call me back by the end of the day with a time for the next week. I was at work, so I wasn't able to check my phone until the end of the day, but she never called me back. I didn't hear from her the next week either. The following week I called again and spoke with Linda who said Paul would be getting in touch with me. I stressed that if they weren't going to be able to get the work done this year, I would like to start looking for help from someone else. She said no, they could get it done. Now it's October, Linda called to ask if I still wanted the work done; I still have never spoken with Paul. They said they needed me to sign the contract, mail it back to them and they would try and fit us in behind all the other requests, but it might not be this year. At this point I was infuriated because I probably could have scheduled someone else and had the work completed at this point! Also I was confused how we had moved from being at the top of the schedule to being behind other work that needed done. Luckily, they had a cancellation so they were able to come out and do the work before the weather got too cold. The day of the appointment I realized they had arrived from the banging on my house. No one came to the door in the morning, and when they were done working they just left. I did receive a phone call that evening letting me know they needed to come back the next day to finish the work, and if I could pay them. The next day the same thing happened. I figured I would give them the check at the end of the day, but they just left again. I ended up mailing them the check since their customer service was something left to be desired. This was such a scheduling headache; I would recommend any OTHER provider. At times I felt like they didn't even want to complete the work on my house at all.

It went splendidly. There were some delays due to Pittsburgh's second winter screwing them out of some days they planned to work on other jobs, but they kept me up to date, which is really all I could ask for. Prompt, professional, and as far as I can tell did the job right. Would definitely work with them again.
Description of Work: Re-pointed my chimney, which had a crapload of missing mortar. Also took down an old TV antenna. My house is three stories and has a steep roof, so they had to set up scaffolding to do the job, hence the somewhat beefy price. (Every other contractor I contacted agreed the job needed scaffolding, so no worries on that count.)

Sabol did a great job and they are nice to work with. I had water leaking into my house through cracked mortar in several locations. Sabol preformed the work while I was out of town and when I returned I couldn't tell they were there. Everything was cleaned up and they did such a good job matching the original color of the mortar, if you didn't know it was repaired you would never see it. I would highly recommend this company.

Amazing. I contacted Sabol for an estimate which Paul came the next day. They were able to do my work over the weekend while the weather was nice and to help me get my house ready for sale. Paul and his team did a great job, took pictures of the job and communicated with me throughout the job. Paul set me up with another group to line the chimney and lined up the time to use the same scaffolding which saved me money.

Estimate was given and an example of the work was completed ahead of the actual work. Mr. Sabol took time to explain what needed to be done and how it would be achieved. The workers were professional and did a very nice job, plus they cleaned up the area each day that they worked. Mr. Sabol made an extra trip to home to make sure that we were completely satisfied with the work.

Mr Sabol was professional, friendly and responsive. While it took some time to get on is schedule ( I presume he is so busy because he is THAT good!). .He arrived to do the work ahead of the day we had discussed. The work was done quickly, perfectly and for a reasonable price. Our chimneys are very high as our house has 10ft ceilings on both floors with cathedral ceilings on second floor -- he was able to overcome this obstacle without any problem. Despite extensive scaffolding and equipment the work was done perfectly. Clean up was just as perfect and there is not a trace of them having been here

The chimney had lost a brick over the winter, and needed to be pointed. After an initial estimate to point the chimney, John recommended replacing the brick given the weakness of the overall structure. The recommendation increased the cost of the work, but it was a good recommendation as the chimney was shown to be in worse shape than initially thought. The team working on the chimney were very careful with the patio area, saved as many bricks as they could to reuse, and made the results match the existing brickwork very well. The cleanup was well done, and the chimney looks great and should last a long time. The only challenge was just getting on the schedule for work, as they are very popular and busy. But I would also say, well worth it.

He also provided an estimate for chimney brick repair on house I'm purchasing. I will be happy to use his company for that work as well.

Sabol Masonry did a fantastic job with our chimneys. They were very accommodating with my crazy and restrictive schedule. They were very prompt in responding to my questions and concerns. Our chimneys had cracks in the brickwork. The chimney covers also required replacement. Mortar joints required re-pointing. Sabol was able to finish all of the above tasks efficiently. The chimneys look fantastic. No more leaks! I would definitely hire them again for any chimney issues.

This is an exceptional family-owned business that exemplifies professionalism. Linda always returned calls promptly to schedule visits for estimates and work. Paul, his son, and the rest of the crew did a phenomenal job evaluating the damage that needed to be repaired and making safe and cost-effective recommendations for resolution of the issues. They were prompt, pleasant, and very knowledgeable. While I don't wish for more chimney troubles, it is reassuring to know I can call Sabol Masonry and will be in great hands should we need them in the future.
