Carl returned my initial call and promptly came to give an estimate for the work that needed doing. He gave me a general time frame for when the work could be performed and kept me apprised as to that scheduling as we got closer to the target date. When we nailed down a start date, Carl, Bob and Dennis arrived on time and went straight to work. Every effort was made by the crew to keep the disruption of our household to a minimum - dropcloths laid, thorough clean-up at the end of each workday. All members of the crew - Carl, Bob, Dennis and Lamont - are very personable, courteous, knowledgeable and skilled. Carl communicated well every step of the way to ensure that the finished product was what we were looking for. The result is fantastic! These guys are great, and I would definitely recommend them. No wonder Artistic Masonry made "The Best of Angie's List" two years in a row!
Description of Work: Exposed stone crawl space, 3 basement walls parged; repair of deteriorated areas on party wall; new coat of stucco to all surfaces. Grinding out and patch pointing bricks on rear exterior wall.

My experience with them was good. They did a high quality work. My only concerned was that it took a long time to get them engaged. He was fairly responsive by keeping in touch with me but it took a long time to get them out to do the work. I think he was having a couple of personal issues. He also had very high demand. So that made it tough to get them work in a timely way but when they got in here they did a good job.

Overall, this was a wonderfully professional experience. I found Artistic Masonary here on Angie's List. I contacted the company and Carl came out to give us an estimate. He came exactly as scheduled, spent time examining our chiminey and then explaining the work that needed to be done. He then followed up with a written estimate. Carl was up front and let us know that it would be a few months before he would be able to do our work, but he was well worth the wait.

We looked on Angie's List for Masonry contractors and had a few folks out to the house to give us an estimate. Some were as much as 3 times the cost of Artistic and talked about doing things we really didn't need (using a mortar blend that exactly mirrored that of the original construction to ensure authenticity). It took a little while for Artistic to be able to do the work (approximately 3 weeks from when we first called) because it was a rainy spring, they could only work when it was dry and they were very busy. When they finished the job I could see why they were so busy. They completed the job in 2 days and left the job site so clean that the only way we could tell they were there was by looking up at our no longer crumbling chimney. Great experience and we would definitely recommend them to anyone else.
Description of Work: The mortar at the top of our chimney and house side wall had deteriorated to the point of the bricks almost falling out. The folks at Artistic re-pointed all the joints and gave us a description of what needed to completed for the chimney repair (we need a cap and they do not do that).

Carl and his crew did a great job, it really looks better than we expected. We were debating whether to spend the money (almost double the price) to remove all of the old stucco and completely redo the exterior. We were concerned about matching the texture and the color (which varies depending on the part of the house), but the repaired areas blend in perfectly and we feel like we made the right decision to patch and paint. He was able to get a perfect color match with the neighboring side of our twin, even with a different type of paint. Carl worked very hard throughout the life of the job to keep us informed, answer questions, and address any issues that arose. He uncovered that some of the window trim had rotted out and had just been painted over by the previous owners. Carl had his carpenter determine which windows needed to be completely replaced, and which could just be scraped and painted, and charged us a very fair time and materials cost to do the repair (not part of the original scope). The job took about 10 days, which is what was estimated, and when rain delayed things for a few days the crew worked the weekend to get the job done on schedule. They were very neat, cleaning up every chip and scraping and extremely professional to deal with. It was a very positive experience, the work is high quality and the house looks great! I highly recommend Carl based on our experience. Plan ahead though, he is in demand and it took almost 6 months to get on the schedule. It was well worth the wait.
Description of Work: Removed all stucco that was cracked, loose or bulging from all sides of house. Patched and repaired damaged areas. Repainted entire house with elastomeric masonry paint. Replaced the rotted exterior trim on two windows.

Upon calling Carl, my call was returned timely. He met with me and e-mailed a proposal within a few days. He explained he was busy finishing outside masonry work, before the weather gets too cold, but would complete my inside work on a rainy day. After completing the basement and garage work, he and his employees cleaned the area thoroughly.
Description of Work: Carl and his employees removed and disposed of all loose stucco on a portion of the basement wall. This wall was severely deteriorated. The new stucco looks great. They also ground out existing mortar on a portion of a garage wall and repointed this section. A small hole in the stucco, on the outside garage wall, was repaired.

We said we would hire him again and we did. I highly recommend Artistic Masonry both for skill and knowledge. Carl was awesome. He really knows his stuff! We had a brick patio put in, he worked with our budget and the results were beautiful! He was very professional, explained in great detail how he would execute this. Our patio was done in no time. We are planning on hiring him yet again.

We were impressed and comfortable with Carl right from the beginning. Among the other estimnates we received, he was the only one that was able to do everything we wanted done. He was very knowledgeable about the garage and basement wall resurfacing and painting, of course, but was also very comfortable in taking on the drywall, framing and painting jobs in the basement. Even when we kept adding jobs, Carl and his team were more than willing and able to get them done. He was flexible with scheduling and very easy to work with. Although his estimate was toward the middle range, out of three, he was willing to give us the discount incorrectly listed in his advertisement in Angie's List Magazine (since corrected). To us, that showed integrity on his part. In addition, his price for all the framing work was very reasonable. We liked Carl's work so much that we've asked him to give us an estimate for doing a drop ceiling in the basement they just finished. We also may do some outside masonry work with him next summer. We highly recommend Artistic Masonry.
Description of Work: (1) repaired, resurfaced and repainted foundation walls in basement and garage; (2) repaired and repainted cracks/holes in garage ceiling; (3) removed, replaced and repainted damaged drywall and door framing in basement; (3) painted additional areas on request; and (4) did a few small electrical jobs unrelated to the major projects.

The crew was very prompt every morning, early most mornings. Clean, left no messes behind. Overall one of the best experiences we've had with contractors.
Description of Work: The stucco on the chimney blew out, it was repaired with a beautiful match to the existing 60 year old stucco. The former garage door had been framed out with studs, leaked, drafty, moldy. It was replaced with cinder block to match the existing walls, along with a new door and window. Two window wells were blocked up and waterproofed.

The guys arrived early in the morning and set to work immediately. I was impressed how efficiently they worked and I am extremely pleased with the outcome. Carl kept me informed of progress throughout the day and, when I was called on to make a decision on part of the work, he clearly outlined my options, explaining the pros and cons of each. He was very forthright about ways that we might save some money by doing odd bits of work ourselves. As this is an old house there were naturally unexpected problems to be dealt with such as an irregular sized chimney flue. Carl took the initiative and replaced the flue at no extra cost. After the work was done, Carl also spent the time to explain fully the ins and outs of the new damper they had installed. The work area was spotless after they left. In summary, I found them to be a skilled, efficient and friendly crew. A good experience all around.

This is the second time Artistic Masonry has done work for me, so I am a satisfied, repeat customer. Carl is always open to discussing different options, and will help make sure you get the best solution that that will last. His attention to detail and the care he takes with any project--even a small one--is rare and much appreciated. In a few hours I had a beautifully repaired curb and patched stucco in the back. He even took the time to inspect the previous work he had done in the basement a year before to make sure it was still keeping water out--which it is. Carl is also working with me to do a custom project in the front of the house to develop a waterproof solution for my existing and leaky bilco doors. I highly recommend him!

Carl came out right away and walked us through what we wanted and made some good suggestions, and his price quote was $1000 less than another one I received. He was very patient, friendly and professional. The job was to start in May, but the weather and Carl's busy schedule pushed it back to June (I don't fault him for either). His team did a fantastic job and they were great to work with. They are very good at what they do and I would certainly hire them again.

A pleasure to work with?Period. Carl came out twice (I found more damage after his first visit) and walked me through the problem and how he intended to repair it. I left him a lock box while I was away and he called to inform me of the progress during the day and stayed in touch. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Carl communicated with us from start to finish on what turned out to be a week long project. We always knew when his team would arrive the next morning, what they hoped to accomplish that day, and how to reach him if we needed to talk. Carl was on-site quite a bit, and his team was prompt, hard-working, and really friendly to us and, most importantly, our son, who wanted to watch the process unfold. First rate work at a very reasonable price.

Carl and his crew are courteous, professional and prompt. The chimney project took about four days to complete, and I could not believe how fabulous they look. It is a pleasure to pull up to the house now! At that time, I showed Carl the fireplace and we discussed various options. He gave me a very reasonable estimate shortly after that. We had to wait a while to get the bluestone, which needed to be cut especially for the project and transported to this area. As soon as he received the new mantle, we arranged to have it installed. Carl and his crew removed the old mantle, cut back in the brick a few more inches, and cantilevered the bluestone in its place. It is absolutely beautiful, and looks like it has always been there.
Description of Work: Carl repaired, stuccoed, repointed bricks where necessary and painted two very dilapidated (and very green) chimneys to make them match the house, which had been recently sided. On a second call, he replaced an old wooden fireplace mantle that was falling off and not up to code with a beautiful bluestone mantle. I plan to have him back a third time to do some repair work on my patio. I have a larger patio project which I'm not yet ready to do, but he gave me some great advice about how to solve the mud problems in the meantime. You can bet I'll be calling him as soon as I'm ready to do the big patio project.

I called 3 Masons from Angie's List. Left messages with 2 of them and never got a call back. Carl answered his phone right away and we made an appointment. He came over, looked at the situation and gave me an estimate soon after. He was here 3-4 times to do the job, each time bringing one of his helpers. I have liked all the people I've met through Angie's List, but Carl is definitely my favorite! He is so pleasant and polite, makes a point of explaining everything as he goes along. His workers were also very pleasant. It was a huge messy job, right in my tiny CC living room, but they did their best to keep after the dust. Carl actually vacuumed the area every day he was here.
Description of Work: Carl opened a first floor wall that had brick behind it, in order to install a wall-recessed electric fireplace. He removed some of the brick, reinforced the wall with wood, metal and put a metal brace in the cellar. He patched up the drywall and installed the fireplace.

I'd met Mr. Yockey, the owner, previously to schedule work on my driveway, house, and steps. Because he's so busy, he put me on the waiting list and we've kept in touch. Recently, the vendor who installed my new garage door caused damage to my property, including failing to cement a gap about 6 inches long at the lip of the garage that would allow rodents and water to get in. The vendor didn't return as promised to do the patch and then demanded $25 to complete the repair. I contacted Mr. Yockey for advice. He said he'd be happy to come out that Saturday afternoon at about 2 PM to inspect the problem and contacted me the day before to get an idea of what he would need to bring. He offered to call me to say he was on the way so I wouldn't have to wait outside in the cold. True to his word, he arrived with his assistant (whom I think is named Bob) at 2 PM. He assured me that this would be easy to fix in 10 minutes. The team was detailed and careful. Bob asked if he could use the spigot in the garage rather than just barging in and was careful when I told him that I thought it might be dripping as a result of the garage vendor. When he finished, Mr. Yockey asked me to try to the garage door and adjusted the cement to ensure that the door would close and lock, and asked if I was happy with the work. Mr. Yockey and Bob were caring, pleasant, professional, and skilled. His company is aptly named because he did an artistic job! My mind is at ease knowing this will hold until Mr. Yockey has a break in his schedule. He didn't even charge me for the patch saying that he wanted me to know that there are honest craftsmen out there. I look forward to working with Mr. Yockey and his team again to complete the full repair job and would recommend Artistic Masonry to anyone without reservation.

Carl and his crew were great to work with. They communicated well with us regarding the project schedule and gave frequent progress reports. They kept the work site neat and put up with our dog. My wife and I ended up making a significant design change after the guys had nearly completed the retaining wall, which nearly doubled the size of the patio and required them to dissassemble and rebuild several linear feet of the wall. Carl was very patient with us and accomodated our wishes for a larger than planned patio. He offered creative design ideas and managed to keep the price within our budget. He told us that he wanted us to be happy with the final product even if it is different than the initial design we agreed to. My experience has been that most contractors are not so accomodating. They even helped me with a plumbing problem in my basement. We couldn't be happier with the final product and the fantastic customer service!
Description of Work: Constructed EPHenry paver retaining wall and patio (~450 ft2) and small curved sidewalk. The retaining wall and patio have curved corners. Also built small set of stairs using EP Henry blocks and pavers. The work included ripping out an old deck and footings. Our property is on a hill, so some significant levelling was necessary. The patio was pitched slightly for drainage.
