Excellent! They were extremely professional helping us work with our insurance company and explaining the process. When the work was started they completed the work in an appropriate amount of time, were extremely neat making sure as to not leave a mess in the house. We will continue to use J&L every year.

The job went great. The sweep was very clean and professional. He explained all the work that he was doing and completed it in a timely manner.

J&L Chimney took time out of their evening schedule to meet with me and the seller of our home to discuss the situation. Within the first few minutes, I quickly realized that this company is extremely educated in this area. We talked through the pros vs. cons and came to a solution that included a firewood stove insert with a new liner. It was left up to my wife and I to select the stove insert. J&L Chimney was available to answer the questions that we had during this process. Not only were they available, they responded immediately and the answers to our questions were very informative and easy to comprehend given the little to no education my wife and I had in this area. Erin, the office manager was as equally as impressive. She handled coordinating the dates of the installation and even followed up a few days prior to remind us. The new stove and insert were installed the same day. The installation team was very clean, taking the extra time to protect our home and floors while bringing in a 500lb stove. They took the time to explain the process and were available to answer the questions that I had during the install. I am a big supporter of local business, this company is down to earth and really enjoys what they do - you can see it in the way they approach every aspect of the job. They also take the time to get to know you as a customer (something that I find to be extremely rare these days). I would recommend this company to everyone I run into who has a need for their services. It is comforting to know that they already have it in their records to follow up in the spring to perform the annual cleaning of the stove - again to assist with protecting our biggest investment (our home) as well as the smaller investment (wood stove and liner). If you are looking for a local company that cares about its customers, is extremely educated in this area, backed by the highest of quality products - no need to look any further than J&L Chimney. Jim and Lou were very knowledgeable, professional and skilled in chimney service and maintenance. The quality of their work was outstanding. I highly recommend them.

J&L showed up on time, and were ready to go as soon as they got here! It was a bit cold and rainy when they came, and when I was about to bring them in through the house, Lou asked if they could go through the Bilco doors so they wouldn't track any water or dirt into the main part of the house. Of course, I said "yes," and thought this was a very professional and courteous gentleman! After the sweeping/cleaning was done, a camera was sent up through the chimney for inspection, and Lou was kind enough to have me watch as this was being done. He also explained in detail what I was seeing. They were quick getting the job done, and very thorough. They checked and double-checked to make sure that the area was clean after they were done. And finally, they went over with me what they did, and what everything on the cleaning detail report represented. As a follow-up, an email was sent to me thanking me for doing business with them, and pictures of the interior inspection were included in the email. I would recommend this company to anyone who needs any type of service on their chimney(s)! Very happy with the service, professionalism, and attention provided by J&L Chimney.

We had an excellent experience with the guys at J&L Chimney. First and foremost, they performed high quality work and we are very happy with the end results (lined chimneys, new chimney cap, and as a result we now have a fully functioning wood stove fireplace insert!). The process started with an inspection, and Jim gave us very thorough feedback on the extent of the issues in our old house, differentiating the urgent from the non-essential jobs. We had a number of options to choose from, and the guys were extremely helpful throughout, chasing down information for us. All the physical work - which was an extensive project - was completed within a day, and we are very happy with the quality of their efforts and our the interaction with them throughout. I'd also note that they took pains to keep the interior of our home very clean; and they were extremely responsive throughout the whole process, keeping in constant contact with us throughout all the planning stages. They were also very pleasant to have around during their visits. We are very happy to have them as our go-to chimney experts now.

The gas fireplace was not working and they were able to get it started again. They cleaned the pellet stove which had shut itself off. After cleaning the stove, they stayed to make sure that everything was in working order again.

Extremely responsive. Had a return call about an hour after posting my request. They were here in a day or two, and a cursory inspection showed all was not good. We discussed, and it appeared to be a few thousand dollars to set the chimney right. I told them I wanted to explore costs for new furnaces that would not require a chimney, which ultimately is what we did. They agreed this was likely the best option, in spite of the fact that it would result in a smaller contract for them. We had them come out to decommission the two old chimneys per the insurance company. The time frame between initial contact and the completion of the work turned out to be about 5 months. There is nothing remotely bad in my experience with Jim and Lou. They were extremely helpful, spent time with me to make sure I understood the options and pros and cons, gave me recommendations, referred me to appropriate tradespeople, etc. I always felt they were acting with MY best interests in mind and never felt any pressure whatsoever to do a particular thing or commit by a certain time. They offered their expertise whenever and however they could, and I did in fact call them several times asking for additional referrals before making a decision. When things finally fell into place and I needed to decommission the chimney within two weeks because of an insurance deadline, they made sure they were here in time to complete the work. In short, they are competent, professional and it is evident that "customer service" is more than a slogan with Jim and Lou. I would wholeheartedly recommend them to my best friends and family.

They were close and we had used them before for a rental property that we have. They redid the chimney on those about two years ago. We did like them. They were prompt, they came when they said they were doing to come. We had gotten some estimates and they were right in the ball park with the estimates. And they did good work!

Apparently don't need my business

Excellent service. Jim and Lou came to my house and gave me an estimate to repair my chimney after it was damaged by the wind. They showed up on time and we're very personable and professional. They recommended the liner system in order to bring the chimney back up to code. After my insurance gave the Ok on the estimate, I called them and scheduled a date to install the liner. They were originally scheduled for April 15, 2014, but called on the 14th and asked if they could come get the job done a day early because of the weather forecast. I was available and agreed . They arrived on time, and got right to work. They did an excellent job installing the new liner and cap. They answered all my questions and made sure to clean up before they left.

Lou and Joe were fantastic. After a 2 hour top to bottom inspection of the chimney, Lou provided me with several options for addressing immediate issues and made suggestions for longer term fixes. Lou presented many options on site based on different scenarios. After three days of considering our situation, Lou provided an estimate via email on exactly what we needed for our immediate situation. He also provided a separate proposal for the replacement of our liner in the chimney using the cheaper material that we selected. He even researched the size of the liner required for our current hot water heater and heating system and what we would need if we decided to replace both systems. After reading both proposals, I called Lou and he immediately clarified a few items and at my request, provided me with an estimate at a reduced cost of doing both project together. We ultimately decided on doing the immediate fix first and then replace the liner later in the year. Lou did not pressure us at all and really seemed to strive to meet our needs within our budget. J&L Chimney was very easy to work with on this project, very professional, thorough, and provided superior customer service. I highly recommend them.

3/13/2014 Hello All, We had a rusting stove pipe that was discoloring the shingles on our roof. We called J&L. They responded promptly and decided on a plan of action to paint the pipe. This was before Thanksgiving of last year. With our terrible winter weather, the work had to be postponed until 3/11/2014. J&L performed the work neatly and cleanly. We certainly won't know how long the paint will last, so it's really hard to grade the quality of their work until a few years down the road. Jim is estimating that it might only last two or three years, though, before it starts rusting again. But, from the ground, it looks good. The roof Jim had to access is very steep so he needed special rigging to safely do the job. My only complaint is with price and communication. Jim stated over and again that it would be a time and material job. When asked about accessing the pipe safely, Jim said he had all the equipment necessary, but then added a $75 charge for "Scaffolding." I understand the situation, but would have preferred Jim saying that before he did the job or at least calling to obtain permission for an additional charge. When I questioned the charge, he would not remove it. In addition, receipts for the materials charge of $75.41 were not provided, although the leftover paint was left behind.

They were very prompt in responding to my call. My chimney was pretty clogged and they did a great job of getting it opened up. It burns 100% better now. The two workers really knew what they were doing.

They came the day after they were called to sweep the chimney. They were very professional and neat and were not phased when it was discovered that the chimney was totally blocked by years of the previous owners neglect and chimney fires. They took the time to show and explain to us the causes of what they found and how to avoid it in the future. They worked tirelessly in the cold and damp conditions and in the crawl space to break through the blockage so that it could air out and dry enough to finish the job. As soon it dried enough they came back, on Christmas eve, to install the new liner system, one of them even driving several hours to get a replacement part that had been damaged in shipping. All of the work was done very professionally, cleanly and as quickly as possible, despite the adverse weather and working conditions. I would recommend them to anyone needing chimney service.

They were wonderful. Honestly, I don't know about the price, but they worked hard, cleaned up, were on time and ALWAYS communicated so I feel just fine about it. I know they did good work with quality materials and that I can call them and they will answer the phone. There was an issue with the chimney cap and blower and they took care of it without blinking an eye. Good honest men that I would happily suggest to anyone who needs a chimney sweep. And its a family business, which makes it even better. Thanks, guys!!!!!!

We did not end up using Jim because we were outside of his range but he returned my call right away and gave me some great, free, advice on what I needed and how to contact someone that would be able to help me. He was so helpful and went out of his way for me when he didn't need to. I wish I were able to use him and would recommend him to anyone IN his service area. Thank you Jim!

Provider was very courteous and polite. They gave very good information and answered all of my questions. The cost of the initial inspection was applied to the cost of the work that I had them complete. They were prompt and the work was completed in the time frame that was estimated (two days) even after encountering a problem with the repair around the clean out door. I was not charged for the extra work involved with this repair. The provider was very neat with both the inside and outside work that was performed. I will definitely be using this service provider in the future and will recommend them to others.

I was very pleased with the service. J&L inspected my fireplace chimney and told me it didn't need cleaned. I had only been using it two years, and not knowing anything about chimney's I could have easily been taken. I was so glad they were honest and gave me the information on what to look for in the chimney. They cleaned my pellet stove, which really needed it! They were quick and very clean. I will be using J&L in the future and recommending them to all my family and friends!

Jim and Lou and Jim's father came to the house to remove my wood burning stove, which had been improperly installed and vented before I purchased the home. There was water leaking into the fireplace. They inspected my chimney and fireplace and determined why it was leaking, removed the stove at my request, and gave me advice on options for my fireplace. Unfortunately, myfireplace insert is made by a company that is no longer in business so we cannot get needed replacement parts. I would never have known this if Jim hadn't come to the house. He gave me all of the information to make a decision, and is coming back next week to cap off the chimney at my request. I have decided to install an electric fireplace. Jim and Lou are total professionals. They are ultra knowledgeable and detail oriented and explained the situation in terms that I could understand. They did a very thorough job of inspecting and diagnosing the issues with my chimney and fireplace and were very neat about it--no mess in the house. In addition, they are very friendly and nice people. I recommend them highly. They did not have to sweep my chimney, but I am very sure that they would do an excellent job of it!
