The exploding rock (rock is close to the floor and just gets warm, even with the stove on high) hazard. This situation is similar to one involving automobile maintenance and repair. She is simply not equipped to deal with it.

+ 2 moreJ & L are very prompt, professional and straight shooters as to the conditions that they may find, be it good or bad. They will be direct in their comments as to what is the best way to proceed and will not mislead you. They have been my "Go to" guys for years now and I trust them. As the Old Saw goes "You only get what you pay for" in that regard they are just the best around.
Description of Work: Numerous chimney sweepings over time for two flues in my home. Camera inspection of flues for any damage to prevent fires or unsafe conditions. Frank discussion of cost to use a fireplace for wood burning which would require extensive repair and lining of flues vs. gas insert. Very honest and factual information was given as to what is the best option for the money to help with decisions.

+ 0 moreHe was on time and professional. After check g the chimney, he told me it did not need cleaming. There was no charge for checking g it out. Then he cleaned the drier vent. He told me it had been I stalled improperly. He fix it. It now runs better than ever!. I was very pleased with service and would hire again.

+ -1 moreThey didn't do any work on it because it didn't pass inspection and we don't use it. They did not give us the Angie's List discount. We wouldn't use them again because we don't use the chimney. They came here, inspected the chimney and left, they did what they were supposed to do. My interactions with them were good. The inspection was good, they did a good inspection.

Description of Work: Chimney tuck pointed with new cap added. They did an excellent job. A few months later I had a chimney fire and I called J&L right away. They explained my options expertly and I had a gas insert installed by them. We love it!

+ 0 moreGreat! Lou and Jim were clear a specific in the explanation of what needed to be done to fix the problem. They were courteous and professional on the job and the repairs came out perfectly. The work site was completely cleaned before they left -- with all the dust flying around, I didn't think that was possible! We also replaced the chimney cap -- looks great, too!
Description of Work: Our chimney started to show major wear after it had been repaired about 10 years ago. It looked like the bricks in the chimney were sagging and the mortar was breaking off.

+ 1 moreIt went well. They communicated clearly what the job would involve and their estimate was accurate. Their office was good at communicating with us. They seem like a responsible and conscientious company.
Description of Work: Needed a stainless steel liner put into our tall chimney and a cap put onto top of the chimney as well as some interior duct work from the furnace to the chimney. They will return in the spring for some masonry work on the chimney.

+ 0 moreLou & Jim were wonderful to work with. We have a very tall chimney (over 25 feet) and the the old wall liner had crumbled in their attempt to remove it. Huge obstacles - they did a superb job. They will be back to inspect chimney yearly.
