I?d like to strongly recommend this vendor. Sean was prompt, knowledgeable, and a very nice guy. More importantly he was honest with us and informed us our floors were too thin to refinish rather than doing the job and ruining them. Instead of going for the easy sale he gave us a great overview of our options and taught us a lot about our floors. If you want to hire an honest and knowledgeable vendor look no further.

Sean is a very punctual individual and is exceptional at what he does. Our initial contact with Sean had to do with going with pre-fab hardwood flooring or go with unstained flooring and allow Sean to stain it to my wife's specific color. Another question was how wide do we go with. Sean provided us with different sizes and suggested the 4" wide flooring and explained the viewpoints on the 4" versus the 5" width. We decided to go with the 3/4" unprimed red oak hardwood flooring in the living room, dining room and hallway (we live in a rancher). Additionally, Sean provided us with several samples of varying colors and grains etc... It would appear to be overwhelming but Sean was so helpful and made everything go so smoothly. Before laying the new wood, Sean removed all of the old carpet and tack stripping and then fixed many areas where the sub flooring squeaked. After he laid the new hardwood flooring, he sanded it to ensure that the floor was smooth. He also fixed any imperfections in the flooring. Before he was done, he had pointed out some defects in the existing baseboards which accentuates his attention to detail. Needless to say, we whole heartedly trust Sean's advice and went with new baseboards - which he provided (2) different samples of. Sean also used something to bring out the grain in the wood prior to sealing it. Throughout the process Sean always informed us what was next to be done. After (2) weeks, the new hardwood flooring was finished. BEAUTIFUL! No flaws. No squeaks. No footprints. No paw prints (we went with the semi-gloss). If you want flooring done right - to YOUR liking, don't hesitate to call Sean Maxwell. One of my neighbors is already getting him booked to refinish their hardwood floors.

After reading the glowing reviews on Angie's List, I decided to contact Maxwell Hardwood Floors. I contacted Sean about a hardwood installation job and he returned my call the following day. We spoke about the job and eventually set an appointment for him to see it, measure, and provide me with an estimate; he chose the time/day, stated that he would arrive within a 30-minute window, and would call me if that changed. The day of the appointment, he called an hour prior to the appointment to inform me that he was running 2 hours late and asked if we could reschedule...I told him that I could not reschedule because my plans for the day were built around the time he had previously chosen. The possibility of rescheduling the appointment was kicked around, but he was leaving town for a week and we eventually decided that there would be no use in waiting that long for an estimate. My take: If a company in the service industry cannot keep a timeline when they're trying to get my business, what can I expect once they have my business? No thanks.

Sean did an excellent job. He was responsive to all of our phone calls, showed up on time for all appointments (came on a Sunday morning to give us our estimate), and was able to start the job as scheduled on the day he said he would. Sean was there every day (8 business days) doing the work himself and was always professional. Also, when my husband and I scratched the floor in the process of moving our furniture back, Sean came back within a few days and fixed it for us. I would highly recommend Maxwell Hardwood Floors!

Sean responded to my initial phone call promptly. He was also quick in coming out to look at the job & gave a very reasonable estimate. He set a tentative start date for only a few weeks out & was true to his word. The project started on time. I felt that the age of our home, over 100 years old, was an extra challenge but he did a beautiful job. Our stairs were particularly challenging due to their age and they look amazing. They have never looked better. We also had a unique situation in that we had a modular 2 story addition added to our home. Sean was able to create a transition step where the new house meets the old. Sean was always professional & clear in his communications. He & is assistant were very neat. There was no mess left behind. Sean also provided excellent aftercare instructions for the floors. He gave us a written handout as well as a bottle of floor cleaner. He clearly takes pride in his work & wants it to last for years to come. We plan on someday getting the floors on the first floor of our home done & plan on calling Sean back for the job.

Initially I used the contact form on the website, but no one responded. So I followed up with a phone call several days later and left a message. Despite the fact that the contractor's website says plainly "serving Philadelphia and the surrounding areas," the person who called me back said he wouldn't come to South Philly and that they rarely came into the city. He was pretty brusque, bordering on rude, and couldn't hang up fast enough.

From start to finish everything was excellent. He responded in a timely manner to come out and quote the job and once I committed to the job, he scheduled me immediately. His repair work and refinishing was excellent gave good, sound recommendations. The cost was fair and well worth the job performed. Highly recommend.

We had a very good experience with this company. Sean was thorough and professional. He explained the multi-step process and kept us informed along the way. After the sanding, he stained, sealed and applied polyurethane. Each day, he cleaned up after himself. He even gave us suggestions on how to maintain the flooring. We are very pleased with the end result.

It turned out great. They brought in big fans and they avoided making a big mess in the house. They did a nice job job matching the existing color of floors in the downstairs. We were satisfied as it was on an older home. They had to make repairs to some of the steps as well.

Wanted an estimate on hardwood floor repair. Called this company due to high ratings. Fine over the phone. Set an appointment for about a week later. He never showed up. Have called three times since then and no call back.

Sean Maxwell installed hardwood floors throughout most of our house (which is fairly large). We had secured several estimates from reputable flooring stores, but our neighbor had used Sean and couldn't say enough good things about his work. What appealed to us: hardwood floors are what he does exclusively, so he is truly an expert craftsman. His estimate was pretty much the same as the bigger stores, but we liked Sean and decided to hire him. We had carpeting in most of the rooms, so he had to remove all of that and then lay down the hardwood. He helped me decide which flooring to select and then he was able to get the wood at a better cost. Sean and his workers were punctual, very pleasant, and extremely professional. Sean is a perfectionist and offered many suggestions on how to create designs in the floor to highlight certain areas (like the fireplace). He knows what he's doing and the final product certainly showcased that. We are so pleased with our floors; we cannot believe we waited so long to make the change from carpets to hardwood. I would highly recommend Sean and would hire him back for all other hardwood flooring jobs!

Sean was amazing and talked me through the process from day one. He answered all my questions as the process went on and even made adjustments when issues and requests came up. We have the entire 2nd floor sanded and re-stained + poly. The first floor was polished and clear-coated and the one room with terrible floors was redone complete to match. He even did the screw/peg look for us so everything looked the same. AWESOME JOB!!!! It took a couple weeks, but it was close to 4000 square feet.

Sean and his team did a fabulous job on the whole project. They sanded the stairway, roughly 30 steps down to the bare wood and then installed new oak flooring in the dinning room, foyer and the hallway upstairs. They were hardworking, well prepared, professional efficient about the execution of each step in the process. When we selected the stain for the floors we picked a stain that, unknown to Sean had a high viscosity level which increased complexity and the time to complete and Sean and his team, without any complaints, worked until the job was complete and correct. He deserves praise for overcoming this difficulty without any issue. I would definitely encourage anyone thinking of hardwood floors, refinishing or new to contact Sean before they proceed. Sean seemed very knowledgeable and decided I to hire him after getting several estimates. The quality of the job was excellent. He was punctual and professional during the whole process. I am very happy with the results. I need to have couple additional rooms redone, and would definitely use him again!

Sean Maxwell was prompt in performing an estimate. The price was in the high reasonable range but the high ratings on Angie's List persuaded me of the value. The wood was delivered as promised on schedule, so it could acclimate to the house conditions prior to installation. The actual installation was done by Sean's assistant due to my request for the soonest install date and took three days. Sean's assistant was polite, hard working and did high quality work including installation of molding. He did a thorough cleanup of all scraps and debris. He installed inset floor vents flush to the floor which added to the appearance. Our satisfaction can best be expressed by my wife's reaction when she saw it: "Beautiful !"

All of the floors look great! So much better. They were very professional, came when he said and finished everything within a fair amount of time (5 days with multiple steps required). The process created very little dust, and they cleaned any traces left behind. The floors now look terrific! I would recommend Maxwell Hardwood Floors in a second.

Sean and his helper started when he said they would and the first day was spent moving furniture and removing the quarter round moulding. The repair was delayed two days as the subfloor was too damp to install the new floor planks. While waiting for the subfloor to dry out Sean and his helper sanded the rest of the floors. They use high quality machines that mjinimized the dust. They did a 3 level sanding (coarse, medium, fine). The hardest part was selecting the new stain color. Sean coustom mixed a number of shades and stained and polyurethaned oak planks for my wife to select the stain she preferred. Once the color was selected it took about another 4 days to finish the project. After the floor had time to cure Sean and his helper replaced all the furniture. It was a pleasure to work with Sean and we are very happy with the finished project.

This job took four days to complete. Sean and his assistant arrived each day at the appointed time and completed the necessary work in a professional manner. Prior to beginning, they moved a piano and china cabinet from the living room into the foyer. Both had been too heavy for my son-in-law and me. Sean blocked off the two rooms with plastic, thus minimizing the odor from the stain and polyurethene from traveling to the rest of the house and keeping our cats off the floors until they were dry. (They use a process that all but eliminates dust from the sanding, so that was not a problem at all.) The prep work, mostly sawing, for the replacement hardwood boards and the baseboards was all done outside, so there was no mess in the house from that. Overall, my wife and I were impressed by how neat Sean and his assistant were, by how they cleaned up each day, and by the information Sean provided for the final drying of the floors and their care thereafter. We would hihgly recommend Sean! for this type of work.

Everything went well from start to finish. Mr Max well's plans were laid out in a professional manner and did all we asked until the job was complete and to our satisfaction.

I emailed them and they called me right away. We set up an appointment and they came out to look at the property. They are going to email me a price this week. They were pretty knowledgeable. They assessed the flooring situation the same as another company that also came out. I would absolutely consider using them.
