We had three different companies come out to give us an estimate. While Sean's estimate was slightly higher than the other two companies, we liked the floor samples he showed us and his estimate included refinishing a staircase. Sean was also straightforward and did not pressure us or "over sell" the way the other companies did. Sean was very responsive from the beginning. He always returned phone calls and emails in a timely fashion. He also was flexible and able to work within our schedule. He was punctual and started the job when he said he would. Since half of our house had hardwood floors already, we were nervous about the new hardwood variety and color clashing. Sean had a variety of samples available which meet our needs. When we got nervous about our choice, Sean arranged for us to visit the hardwood distributor and pick up several additional samples for us to bring home and compare to our existing floors. Sean and his assistant were very neat and cleaned up at the end of each day. They worked quickly and even finished a couple of days early. Initially Sean was going to refinish a staircase. When he discovered that the wood was in too poor a condition to refinish, he told us immediately and reduced the price of the job. His initial estimate did not include a small powder room on the third floor, but he included it for no extra charge. Sean and his assistant did an excellent job and the floors look great. He clearly takes pride in his work and pays attention to detail. Unlike the one of the companies that gave us estimate, Sean does the work himself with an assistant. Because we had been talking with him from the beginning and he wasn't using subcontractors to do the job, we felt comfortable with him working in our house while we were not home.

Sean Maxwell was very personable, professional and prompt. He does the work himself with a helper and does a wonderful job. The new flooring was expertly "woven" into the existing floor and no one would be able to identify the new area. The finished floors look phenomenal throughout. Sean applies a high grade water based urethane (Street Shoe XL made by Basic). I had done extensive research on water based urethane vs. oil based and this was the top rated water based product with a commercial use quality rating. He applied 3 coats plus an initial sealing product that highlights the natural color of the wood. The water based urethane does not yellow with age as oil based urethane does. It also dries quickly which shortens the length of time needed to stay off the floors. It is more expensive that oil based but actually Maxwell Floor's quote was less than the companies using oil based finish. We had 2 water damaged areas. Sean had to replace one damaged board in one area and both areas look perfect. The kitchen floor had been stained black 3 years ago and I had my doubts about how that would turn out. It looks terrific and is now back to its natural color. All the floors look great and Sean's bid was actually the lowest of the 4 bids we obtained. Last but certainly not least: Sean uses a vacuum system as he works and it leaves the house practically dust free!! We have had floors sanded in our last home and had to clean everything in the 3 story house although only the first floor had been sanded. This was a wonderful difference. I would highly recommend Maxwell Floors!!

We got an estimate from Sean Maxwell, but another company was a little less expensive so we went with them. After they did not show up on the day scheduled, I called Sean back to see how quick he could start since other work and our move was dependent on getting the floors done. Sean was a lifesaver! He got started as soon as possible and even brought in help and worked extra to finish before Thanksgiving so that we could get moved in. He was very polite, considerate, and trustworthy. We gave him a key to the house and trusted him to come and go and lock the house, etc. He did not let us down! He did great work and we really appreciated his efforts to get in ASAP. While his initial estimate seemed a little bit higher to us (about $500), there was of course some surprises after the carpet was pulled up. Sean was very fair in re-pricing the job and I think overall we got a great deal, his pricing was definitely fair. I highly recommend Sean.

Sean was one of three companies who came out to quote my floor work. His price was competitive and I liked his attitude the best of the three. He was receptive to my request - that he sand only, without finishing, as I wanted to apply an environmentally-friendly finish myself. He also agreed to avoid using chemicals while stripping my floor. I appreciated his willingness to accommodate my concerns. Sean either performs the work himself or uses 1 or 2 other guys - unlike other companies that farm out the work. I liked knowing the man I met was the one in charge of my project. Sean and his team were punctual and professional. The floors looked absolutely fantastic. He even repaired a small section at no charge. I really appreciated his attention to detail. He contacted me several times during the project to update me on the progress.

We met for an initial estimate, and I was happy to learn there would be no problem with me doing the carpet removal (to save money). All repair work to the floors was done along with the finishing, including a small amount of replacement of warped boards. It's almost impossible to tell there were even tag-strips in the floor at all. Work was started and finished on time, and the floors looked great. Sean uses a dustless sander; the house was very clean when he was finished. He was kind enough to let us know that the sub-floor might allow some dripping into the basement so we were able to cover where necessary. Sean went out of his way to answer our questions, and provided care instructions, and cleaner.

Sean Maxwell called me to set up an appointment which we did for two days later. He neither showed up for the appointment nor called. I called him 30 minutes after he was supposed to arrive and got his voice mailbox in which I left a message. I did not hear back from him for another hour and a half. He left me a message apologizing, saying that the appointment just slipped his mind. You only have one chance to make a good first impression. Even though he may do good work, I will not use him to refinish my floors.

Overall the project went very well with little disturbance to our daily routine. They were neat and cleaned up everyday so that you barely knew they were here. From the time we got estimates and Sean looked at the project, to the time they finished the work, everything went very smoothly. We corresponded by email or phone and he was easily accessible. Overall this was a great experience and we love our new floor!! We have already recommended Maxwell to friends and neighbors!

Sean and his coworker performed the work over the span of 4 days. They were clear about describing what was happening with each step of the process. They were efficient and courteous and always made sure to clean up at the end of each day. He was willing to listen to our input and chose a stain color that blended well with our existing floors in other areas of the house. We are very happy with the finished product.

He gave good advice as to what type of finish I should use as well. Sean came when he said he would and finished on time as well. His dustless method is great. Overall I had a great experience with Sean and will contact him again when I need some floors redone.

Sean Maxwell was professional from start to finish. He arrived on time for the scheduled estimating appointment and provided a written estimate on the spot. Some places don't provide it on the spot. You have to wait days for it. Other companies only gave verbal estimates. Other companies did not come out and look at the job but just sent someone to measure the area. The estimate was reasonable. The job was scheduled quickly to my satisfaction. Completed in less than the estimated time. He was very professional at all times during the job. His work was excellent as well.
