Scheduling went well and arrived as expected. Friendly and professional. The clean and check seemed to go much more quickly than I expected however, so I am not certain how much effort was put into it. After the work was done, which probably took about 15 minutes, I was told that a capacitor was testing bad and although functional, it should be replaced for around $500 as preventative measure. I declined and after a few months and lots of A/C, unit is still working fine so I'm glad I passed. I asked if the tech would check the refrigerant level (since I was supposed to get a pound free) and he said he wouldn't check it because if there was something left in his tool/tank from the previous customer it could contaminate my system so it was better not to check. All in all I don't think this "deal" was a very good value.
Description of Work: Deal was for inspection and cleaning of central A/C, including up to 1 lb of refrigerant if needed.

I'm not a fan of them at all. It's a waste of money. It was terrible. They didn't provide any service. All they wanted to do was sell me on what was wrong. When I priced check against a couple of companies, they were hundreds of percent above on both labor and material. I'll never use them. The deal came with putting in some refrigerant and they never put it in. They used it as an entry point to come out. I have my uncle who is on the HVAC business in Ohio and I started back checking.

After the tech arrived at my home to give my AC unit a much needed tuneup he asked some questions about what was wrong with the system and then came to the conclusion that it was "just a dirty filter". So we took out the filter to see if that would improve the flow and coolness of the air and it did, but marginally. We waited around for about an hour to see if the filter was the problem only to find that it wasn't. Instead of performing ANY SORT of tuneup the tech just started rattling off everything else that could be wrong with the system and suggested replacing it. I knew from the beginning that this was a very real possibility so I was open to the idea. After I asked questions about what type of systems they carry and the different levels of AC units they had he proceeded to give me a quote for what I assume is their most expensive and top of the line products. I asked if there was a possibility of not getting the top of the line system in the house to which the tech responded with no and went on to tell me all the wonderful things this system would do. Keep in mind I had already paid $77 for him to come out and tuneup my AC and all he did to this point was take out the filter. When I asked if that $77 that I already spent could be put towards the new system and install he flat out denied that it could be done, no exceptions. Then I couldn't get the guy to leave my house. He wanted me to sign up for credit to pay for the job so they could get started ASAP. I had to promise him that I would call him the next day after speaking to my wife about it to get him out of the house. I have since received quotes from 3 other HVAC companies in the area and every quote has been AT LEAST 30% CHEAPER than what I was originally quoted by South Hills Electric. I attempted to contact them to see if it was just a new tech in hopes that they would correct a quote that was RIDICULOUS and have yet to hear a response after a week. In summary, don't believe all the hype on Angies List about how amazing they are unless you have money to burn.
Description of Work: I bought a AC system tune up through Angies List. They promptly scheduled the appointment and made it out the day that they promised. After that, it was all downhill.

Couldn't ask for better service. Two techs were very knowledgeable and efficient in tracking down and identifying circuits and labelling breakers in panel.
Description of Work: Examined electrical panel, pulled and checked each breaker, replaced questionable breaker and mapped each breaker to outlet and appliance it served; labeled each breaker in panel accordingly.

It was okay. They had suggested that I needed something done and I thought it was kind of expensive, and I called somebody else and got it cheaper. It was somebody he recommended to me. They didn't do anything wrong. For that particular thing, it was a good price, but for what they were proposing to do, I thought it was kind of high. The quality of service was good. I asked if he knew anybody else and I compared price, otherwise they were fine.

Good service performed on time and on price. Only drawback was the installer used a yellow wire which would be visible, rather than a white wiring like the rest of the wires in the basement work area.

It didn't go well. We got it for the electric breaker paneling and essentially, there were maybe a third of the breakers that didn't get labeled because the electrician said that they ran out of time. When I followed up with the manager and I actually went through the Angie's List, she essentially said that it really didn't have much to do with time, it was just that they couldn't figure it out. I had argued and sort of said that it didn't list on the details that perhaps not all of them could be labeled as part of the deal, that was never really stated to me. The electricians themselves were professional and everything was fine but I was sort of unhappy with how the process unfolded because we still had breakers that don't have labels. The people that were here were professional and kind.

They had an electrician available and were able to send him right away which was very nice. He changed the covers on the 3 outside outlets very quickly. Looked over the doorbell which was not working properly and informed me that we needed a new doorbell that I can purchase and have him install at a later date. He evaluated the situation with the flat screen tv hookup and could not help me. The electrician was very nice, but the price was so incredibly high that I could not use this company again. He even gave me a coupon discount on the service call charge of $89 and it still cost almost $400 to change 3 outside outlet covers--not the outlets, just the covers. And I even provided him with one of the replacement covers that I purchased myself.

Electricity in my kitchen, as well as second floor bathroom and bedroom had stopped working. Checked the breaker box, but that was not the problem. It was either a Friday night or a Saturday, so I'm very glad they were open and able to come out on a weekend (same day I called). The electrician was very nice and found the problem after only about an hour or so (checking 2 outlets before finding the problem in the 3rd). He explained that there was some sort of short or something in the wall behind one of the outlets in my dining room. He had to get in there, and said it was a big mess and capped off some other wires. He then stated how much it would be to repair, and I agreed with a sigh since I just wanted to get my electric back. What confused me was the pricing they told me over the phone. They explained before the appointment that it was $89 just to come out, and $55/hour additional. I thought that that was the only cost. Once he found the problem, there was a much larger fee to do the repair work. I had thought it was just hourly (of course plus any parts, but I can't see how much those parts could possibly be?). Perhaps my fault for being a novice to getting electrical work done. I did call to have the invoice explained to me later and the guy I spoke to was patient and explained that the hourly fee was just to FIND the problem, not to do the actual work. After talking to a few people after the fact, they did seem to think that the price was quite high to repair a defective outlet, but all in all, it was done quickly and by a nice fellow who was very knowledgable. I just wanted to write this to inform anyone else who may also be new to this. Ah, homeownership!

For the amount charged a RIP OFF! It took the tech 5 minutes to splice the small wire. Then when he discovered that the fuse was blown he did not have one in his truck. He told me if he had to go get the fuse it would cost an extra $250. I had to drive to an auto parts store to get the small fuse. The store gave it to me for nothing. The tech plugged it into the furnace and that was it. Total charge $366 and I had to go get the fuse. Other wise it would have been $610 for at most 15 minutes of work. The only parts involved were two wire nuts and the free fuse from the auto store. I will never use this company again and I would not recommend them to anyone. I have been an Angies List subscriber for years and have found many qualified reasonably priced companies from this service. This service was definitely highway robbery.
Description of Work: Repaired a small wire on my AC compressor (5 minutes to splice and wire nut). Discovered a fuse (3 Amp the kind in your car) was blown inside the furnace. That's it.

I was not impressed...First off I was charged $15 additional because I have a boiler...OK I guess that's fair enough...Unfortunately much like I suspected, at the end of the inspection I was handed a "sky is falling" estimate of $3500.00...Of course the furnace was running and appeared fine, but fixes were needed "or else"...I passed, and amazingly my furnace continues to somehow work... I realize my furnace is old and possibly could go down at any minute...But honestly I could see exactly what was going on, typical sales blitz trying to work on my fears...I would of much more appreciated an honest assessment...

DID NOT USE. Would never use them, or reccomend
Description of Work: Increased price and would not honor coupons/deals/discounts on Angie's List because we are getting the home ready to be sold and we wanted to fix it. Scheduling had a unprofessional attitude and when I asked why it would cost more she answered with "CUZ MY BOSS TOLD ME SO". I also said so if I didn't tell you I was going to sell it you would honor the coupons and it would be cheaper and she said "YES". ( This was all on the phone)

The next day I received an email from them asking me to call, so I called them to make the arrangements. The earliest they could get there was the middle of the following week so we set the appointment. Apparently they are unwilling to work without anyone present, so I arranged for my assistant to meet them there. When they arrived, they confirmed my diagnosis of the problem but would not perform the work without payment in advance. Since my assistant didn't have a way to pay them on the spot, the electrician left without doing anything. I'm kind of glad because he wanted to charge $300-$400! For a $30 breaker and an hour of labor. Sounds like great work if you can get it.

Our overall experience was very good. We had just moved into our house and needed the dryer outlet to be replaced immediately. I called South Hills Electric early in the morning and Mike arrived right on time the same afternoon to fix our problem. He worked quickly, the finished products looked great (more importantly worked well) and he cleaned up after himself. The price may have been a little on the high side, but we didn't have much time to price this work out and we were very very happy with the prompt service!

Purchased a Deal From Angie's List for $77 A/C Tune-Up and Up to One lb of Coolant South Hills Electric LLC The Air unit had not been keeping the unit cool. Justin was able to diagnose the problem and give us several options for correction and replacement of the Air Conditioning unit. He arrived on time and completed the inspection in a timely fashion. He added Coolant to the system and was able to get it working and cooling the unit once again. South Hills Electric is very good at scheduling you in when you need service on your HVAC needs.

I was very impressed by the professionalism displayed by the technician that came to my house. Therefore, I did not think twice about hiring this company to install a new unit. The night before the new A/C system was supposed to be installed, they called and cancelled because they had a technician quit. Normally, we would have been flexible but this happened in the midst of a heat wave, so we were not at all pleased that the installation would be delayed until at least Monday. They offered to lend us two portable window units and we gratefully accepted. They were to be installed the next morning and appeared to be working fine, initially, until we noticed a pool of water around one of the systems the next day. The water was condensation that was supposed to be caught automatically by a drawer inside the unit. Instead of collecting in the drawer, it collected through our carpet and padding and leaked through our ceiling! We immediately shut off the portable air conditioner and dried as much as we could with towels and fans. A few days later, we noticed a moldy odor and are now forced to replace the entire carpet in that room because of the damp padding that could not completely dry. We called first thing Monday morning to reschedule our appointment and the earliest they could do it was that Friday. So they made us wait an entire week during a heat wave (indoor temp was 84!) and, when asked to receive a discount for our trouble and for the money it would cost us for the carpet replacement, they said they would not give us a discount because it was a courtesy unit in the first place (though it was given to us broken, causing our carpet issue). They instead offered to install a new feature to our air system that had very little value to us. Needless to say, we did not hire them to install our new A/C system and were extremely disappointed that we wasted an entire (very hot!) week in limbo with this company.
Description of Work: Initial appointment went well. The technician came over to diagnose an air conditioner problem. Turns out that we needed a new one. Made an appointment for three days later to install a new unit.
