Dear customer. We, as a reputable company, cannot in good faith provide and accurate price over the phone. It is our belief that the technician and home owner should both be well educated on not only what you want to have done but, exactly what it would take to make it happen. Each home and situation is different almost 100% of the time. Especially when it comes to a homes wiring. If you have any questions regarding this concern, please feel free to reach out to me personally. sincerely, Justin T. Operations Manager South Hills Electric LLC.

It turned out fine. One of the reasons I called them was because I had them do a tune-up on my furnace before - back when it was cold. I also bought from them the deal Angie's List had for April Air. After I liked the work they did, I had them put in a hot water tank for me also. I've used them quite a bit. It wasn't a special that Angie's List had, but because I had bought work from them and I liked their work, I went and bought a hot water tank from them. I think they're really good. I've been using them a lot.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal from them. It was $49 for an early bird air conditioning tune-up. They came out to get it checked so that it's all ready to run for the summer.

We got them off Angie's List. We're not very pleased with it. We had them come out because of a special on Angie's List. It wasn't true. They came out and gave a 30-minute very quick check on a couple of things. They wanted to start charging potentially hundreds of dollars to do a full system check. We're not very happy with them. They're baiting you with what looks like a good deal. When they got here, they did anything and everything they could to try to switch, upsell or change out to something more expensive. They weren't as responsive as I expected them to be.
Description of Work: We used South Hills Electric LLC for the full checkup of the system.

The electrician was friendly. However, my appointment was for 8:30 AM. He did not arrive until 10! He did call to say he was "stuck in traffic" and would be late. I had to call him twice for ETA updates. He was only driving 10 miles in the South Hills. Even with traffic, it doesn't take 1.5 hours to drive 10 miles. When he finally arrived, I showed him the "faulty" plug. He informed me I did NOT buy "diagnostic" time! He DID give me the price up front if he supplied the switches and plugs--Over $1,000! Fortunately I DID buy the switches and plugs myself for only $26! He also quoted another $100 an hour for anytime over the 2 hours I pre paid. I told him I only wanted 2 hours--he did not "get to" 1 whole bedroom. He did ask about our furnace. I informed him we have been using a company we trust for over 20 years and won't be changing.
Description of Work: I purchased 2 Hours of Electrical Service. I assumed it was up to me to decide what I wanted done. I wanted 5 switches and 16 outlets changed and a plug checked.

The service call was a big disappointment. We were looking forward to this company serving our fairly new furnace and water heater. Only to find out that they advised that a new part was needed in a furnace that was operating extremely well. We have decided to get a second opinion. Our family felt that this visit was about securing more money than we already paid. We have never received a follow up call from the company.

The electrician and his apprentice were extremely thorough and helpful. They were kind enough to repair the switch as it was dangerous to leave it that way. All outlets were tested and outside outlets in the back were tested found in need of repair but were not on the schedule. I will be calling them back to repair the back outside outlet.

Apparently our furnace did not have a filter, but they did not mention this. We noticed ourselves after they left. It seemed like they offered this service to drum up new furnace installation business as that is what was recommended. I do think that we will need a new furnace in the future, but I don't trust what I was told since the technician did not mention the issue with the missing filter. I called and emailed the company after the appointment as they had advised they would send me more information, but they never did.

Very pleased with the service. Provider was friendly, polite, and professional at all times, including being promptly on time for the appointment. He walked me through everything he did with the furnace, noting options for replacing parts, but also conveying that it wasn't necessary at this time. I was educated by the process and always felt like I was dealing with a honest and knowledgable provider. Had a prior experience with South Hills Electric (different technician) that was less positive, and when I mentioned it, the provider was apologetic explained that they had tightened up their crew since then. Will definitely use them in the future.

The installation was great and the installer was very professional. The problem is that it stopped working yesterday (less than a year). I was hearing a scraping sound and I thought it was someone shoveling snow (shovel scraping the cement). I kept hearing it about every 2 minutes and finally realized that it was coming from my basement. I went down and saw that the sound was coming from the humidifier. There was a bunch of sawdust (?) on the floor beneath it. I took off the cover and a lot more fell out. The only way that I could stop the scraping sound was to turn it off. That's where I am now -- I cannot afford the cost of repairing it at this time. Once I do, I will update this review. Someone from the company called me and informed me that there is a filter that needs to be changed twice a year. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that. I bought the filters on Amazon and installed the new filter. I am a 70 year old woman with no mechanical ability and it was just as easy as he said it would be. My humidifier is now working and I am very happy with this company and would definitely use them again.

After the electrician removed my old ceiling fan he stated that the box in the ceiling was not safe for the new ceiling fan installation. He had to go into my attic to replace the box and it turned into a big job that ended up taking over 4 hours. I was not happy because my old ceiling fan worked perfectly for over 10 years, even though the electrician insisted it was not installed safely. I bought the house with the ceiling fan so who knows? But I'm assuming he did a good job and did it safely this time around. The other issue that really was upsetting but is not the fault of the electrician is that my old ceiling fan had a remote control. The ceiling fan I purchased did not come with a remote control but I was assured at Lowes that the separate remote control I purchased could be easily installed. The remote control could not be installed. Every time the electrician tried to make the remote control work it blew the circuit for the ceiling fan. So now I have a new ceiling fan with no remote control which makes it extremely difficult to use. I paid $403.75 on top of the $75.00 I paid through Angies list. My old ceiling fan was starting to make noise and move but had I known that this " deal" would ultimately cost me $714.84 by the time I bought the fan the deal and paid the electrician, I would have lived with it. I will never take advantage of another "deal" on Angie's List.

I have requested the three HVAC service providers, including specifically two certified Amana service providers, to come to my home and inspect my furnace at my expense to assess my new furnace and associated heating system and inform me of what problems they saw during their visit and to suggest to me what would be needed to remedy any problems they found. Since all asked, I explained to each at the beginning of their visit the problem I?d so far experienced: My new furnace had been installed within the previous six months in June of 2015 and I had only begun operating the heating system for approximately three months when the weather became colder in October. During two different mornings in December my furnace came on as scheduled and would run for approximately one hour or so before shutting down completely and not come on again until approximately 1 ½ hours later, running fine thereafter. With the replacement of a new furnace, all businesses indicated that they essentially used the existing ductwork in place in the home, making such modifications as necessary to mate the existing duct work, both cold air return intake supply side and the hot air output side, to properly meet specifications of the new furnace. A significant point each made is that deliberate measurements and analysis of the home?s existing ductwork needed to be properly sized and matched with the new furnace being recommended, and significantly, meet all manufacturer?s specifications. If there were any significant changes or modifications needed with the installation of the new furnace, as well as additional costs associated with requisite changes, they would be discussed with the homeowner up front and agreed to and appropriately included with the cost of the installation of the new furnace. South Hills did not do this with me. While they replaced a previous 20-year-old, 100,000 BTU furnace with a new, higher efficiency 100,000 BTU furnace, I was not made aware that there could/would be any significant problems following the recommendation they made. In the other Amana businesses? review of my new heating system, they indicated that my new furnace was not properly sized with either my existing hot air or cold air ductwork and that a smaller 80,000 BTU furnace would have been appropriate. Making my new furnace now fit my existing ductwork would involve some extensive and expensive changes. With the problems I began experiencing with my furnace quitting operation in December and first bringing that to the attention of the representative I spoke with at South Hills about what they were going to do to assure me of proper and reliable operation of my new furnace, I was told my existing ductwork was inadequately small and they weren?t going to do anything about that. It appears to me that South Hills was aware of this significant point by previous persons of their employ who had been to my home, but this significant point had never been shared with me nor the implications it could have upon the satisfactory performance of my new furnace. The ?fix? he has now suggested involves their charging me an additional and estimated $700 to ?install return air box under furnace to provide proper airflow? which allegedly will remedy the issue. However, since two of the Amana service providers I had review my heating system indicated that along with my new furnace being oversized for my existing ductwork, the best ?fix? would be a proper-sized furnace fitting the existing duct work to meet manufacturer?s specifications. Nonetheless, any ?fix? to best remedy the new existing furnace situation would necessitate some modifications to both the intake and output air duct system beyond that proposed by South Hills. A further point that all three HVAC persons who reviewed my furnace noticed and got their attention was the shoddy and unprofessional appearance of the sheetmetal work that had been done with the furnace installation, each remarking that neither they nor the company they represented would find such sheetmetal work acceptable. I also noticed when I began using my new furnace for heat that the humidifier that had been reinstalled from my previous furnace was no longer working, which I also brought to the attention of South Hills. A technician diagnosed the problem as a faulty solenoid valve on the humidifier, but after I replaced that and the furnace humidifier still continued not to operate, I again called South Hills. I also learned from a contact I?d made with the humidifier manufacturer that incorrect wiring of the humidifier to the furnace circuit panel could be the reason for the humidifier not operating, I made this aware to the South Hills service manager. His response was since they had not installed my furnace humidifier, they could not be responsible for its lack of proper operation in spite of its proper working on my old furnace. We finally agreed they would send a technician out to check for possible incorrect wiring of the humidifier to the furnace only if I agreed to buy a new humidifier if the incorrect wiring was not the problem. When the technician arrived, he immediately noticed the incorrect wiring of the humidifier to the furnace circuit board and corrected it, declaring, ?I didn?t do that?, although he and one other person had previously done the furnace installation and he making most of the electrical connections. With the humidifier wiring connections properly corrected, the humidifier immediately began operating properly. Because of my experiences with South Hills Electric to resolve this issue in a manner satisfactory to myself, as well as their apparent lack of professional and technical quality in the performance of their work as exhibited not only to me, but to other HVAC service providers who reviewed their work with my furnace installation, I could not recommend their services to anyone hereafter nor could I trust any work they would do for me anytime hereafter. My expectancy is a satisfactory resolution that the eventual remedy will provide as follows: - Ideally, installation of a furnace that matches existing in-house intake and output ductwork to provide optimum furnace performance within all manufacturer?s specifications; otherwise - Remedial work to existing new furnace meet all manufacturer?s specifications and not compromise in any way the performance and warranty of the new furnace, and preferably be done by a reputable and professional Amana dealer/service provider, excluding South Hills Electric, that has demonstrated professional quality and performance of work, - Minimize and preferably avoid any further expense on my part resulting from deficient furnace installation, - That all work be done in a quality, professional way that the workmanship would be acceptable by most HVAC business peers, and otherwise satisfy me that I?m getting what I was expecting to get with my expensive purchase of the replacement of a new, reliable, high-efficiency furnace, - That final inspection of all remedial work done be inspected by a third-party unbiased certified Amana service provider, excluding South Hills Electric, to ensure that completed work has been done to meet manufacturer?s specifications and that work has been done in a quality, professional way acceptable by a majority of Amana HVAV service providers.
Description of Work: They installed a new Amana AMEC961004CN high efficiency gas furnace they had recommended to replace my 20-year old furnace which had become inoperative and I determined with the information they provided did not warrant repairing. Based on my previous experience with their replacing my 20-year old A/C unit in July 2013, I chose to use them again because, in spite of the difficulties with the A/C installation taking more than 12 hours, the owner was most gracious in "making it right" and working to ensure customer satisfaction for the very long hours of inconvenience and discomfort we endured without A/C on a hot and humid July day. SUMMARY: When South Hills Electric installed our new Amana AMEC 961004 CN furnace in June 2015, they were deficient in meeting manufacturer's specifications by failing to do a thorough measurement and analysis of my existing ductwork and HVAC components to ensure that the furnace to be installed would properly match with my existing components. This was not done within compliance of manufacturer's specifications to ensure proper, reliable, and uncompromising operation and performance of the new furnace. When later inspected by one of their technicians, he stated that the operation of the furnace did not meet manufacturer’s specifications and that existing ductwork was too small for the size of the furnace. The furnace actually stopped running twice in December 2015 within 3 months of heating operation because of this issue. I trusted that South Hills Electric knew what they were doing, thereby accepting their recommendations of the new furnace. When I recently contacted them regarding this issue, they sent me an estimate for approximately $700 for additional services to correct their deficient installation. I do not believe I should pay extra for work they should have done properly when they first installed my new furnace nor should I be financially responsible for significant problems I was not made aware of at any time during the purchase or installation of the furnace South Hills Electric recommended. It wasn't until several months later after the installation of my new replacement furnace in June 2015 when I began to use the furnace as the weather became colder in October that I became aware there was a problem when the furnace stopped operating for more than an hour on two different cold mornings in December, after which it later resumed operating. Each time the furnace stopped running, I noticed that the furnace was showing an apparent error code of a red light blinking four times as viewed through the inspection window at the front furnace panel. I called South Hills both times when the furnace quit operating, also making them aware of the blinking red light I'd noticed. The service manager acknowledged the blinking red light was an error code. After the furnace quit running the second time, I called South Hills and requested a technician come to determine the problem and remedy the issue. Upon the technician's investigation and different tests and factors he measured, he determined that the furnace was not operating at manufacturer's specifications and that both input cold air and output hot air ducts were too small to adequately and properly meet the operating demands of the furnace. I was not made aware of this at any time, including with the recommendation made by South Hills for the furnace I purchased, nor at any time prior to or during the installation of the new furnace. The furnace had actually stopped running twice because of this issue. When I contacted South Hills to determine what they were going to do to remedy what I felt was their problem due to mistaken, faulty and deficient installation of my new furnace, I was told they could not be responsible for my existing air ducts being too small. However, they felt they could sufficiently remedy the problem by only making changes to the input side of the furnace and have sent me an estimate for additional services to correct what I believe is a result of their deficient installation. I do not believe I should pay extra for work they should have done correctly when they first installed my furnace. I have since contacted several Amana HVAC dealers and another HVAC service provider, three different businesses at this point, to determine how local providers operate with the selling and installation of new residential gas central heating furnaces and that my expectancies of South Hills Electric was not out of line with the general modus operandi of local businesses. What I’ve learned further has been enlightening but NOT contrary to what I or most unknowledgeable homeowners would expect of a professional and reputable residential heating and air conditioning system business listed and endorsed on Angie’s List.

Response from South Hills Electric LLC Heating & Cooling
I WILL RESPOND TO ALL STATEMENTS MADE BY CUSTOMER: SOUTH HILLS ELECTRIC DID INSTALL FURNACE STATED. SOUTH HILLS ELECTRIC INSTALLED AC FOR CUSTOMER IN JULY OF 2013. CUSTOMER WAS PROVIDED PORTABLE AC UNIT AND WAS NOT WITHOUT AC DURING INSTALLATION. CUSTOMER WAS NEVER GIVEN SPECIFIC INSTALLATION TIME REQUIREMENTS AS TO COMPLETION OF INSTALL OF AIR CONDITIONING. AC WAS INSTALLED AND OPERATING IN 1 DAY. CUSTOMERS FURNACE WAS PROPERLY SIZED TO HIS HOME BASED ON HIS EXISTING EQUIPMENT SIZE OF HOME AND DUCTWORK. OLD FURNACE MODEL TUY1009V1200. TRANE 100,000 BTU 2 STAGE VARIABLE SPEED HIGH EFFICIENT FURNACE. 16X 25 RETURN AIR TO FURNACE. OLD SAME SIZED FURNACE WORKED FOR 20 YEARS IN HOME. WHEN TECHNICIAN FROM SOUTH HILLS ELECTRIC CHECKED NEW FURNACE HE INFORMED HOMEOWNER THAT FILTER WAS DIRTY AND FURNACE HAS OPERATED PROPERLY SINCE SERVICE VISIT. CUSTOMER WAS GIVEN OPTION TO INSTALL A BLIND BOX UNDERNEATH FURNACE FOR $695. CUSTOMERS DUCTWORK HAS BEEN MODIFIED BY OTHERS WITH PATCH PLATES WHICH COULD RESTRICT AIR FLOW. Customer was dispatched a technician for free because his Humidifier was not working. Technician gave diagnosis of a bad water solenoid and customer said he would replace it himself. Customer called management at South Hills Electric and said that my technician was incompetent because he didn’t know how to test a solenoid and it costs $120 for customer to buy a new one. Homeowner wanted to purchase himself and said if it doesn’t repair the humidifier we are responsible to give him $120 for the cost. He bought the selonoid himself and couldn’t get the humidifier to work. I sent Homeowner a video of how we test solenoids after he repeatedly stated that my technician was incompetent because homeowner talked to humidifier manufacturer and they stated that you can’t test a solenoid that way. Homeowner performed the test I sent him and homeowner determined that it was indeed a bad water solenoid. After customer could not get humidifier operational and called and apologized about calling my tech incompetent I sent the same tech back for free again and determined that the humidifier wasn't connected to the furnace at all. We in good faith repaired humidifier at no charge. Humidifier was not miswired. Customer was given option to replace humidifier as the cost of new solenoid was significant in comparison to replacing with new unit. I EXPLAINED TO HOMEOWNER THAT IF WE INSTALLED SOLENOID I WOULD GUARANTEE HIS HUMIDIFIER WOULD WORK. In conclusion customer was provided options to correct issue with his undersized duct work. Furnace is properly sized for home and the deficiencies are in his ducting. Furnace has been operating properly since the furnace filter was cleaned/changed. We will not install new undersized furnace as customer requested as furnace we installed is properly sized for his home. We feel that customer is just looking for something for nothing and South Hills Electric LLC will not resolve this dispute as customer deems fit. We will once again honor the option installing a blind box to his ducting. South Hills Electric LLC has made every attempt to satisfy customer in the past and presently. If we cannot satisfy customer then we suggest they finds an alternative HVAC contractor to satisfy his future needs.

Fixed boiler - tried to save it but it was too far gone. New boiler had to be installed. Gave me some price reduction off installation due to repair work . They were good - I did not have time to get competing estimates......They could come the quickest - had good ratings and I went with them. Good at explaining things , prompt communication, which I like...

These folks were great. My heat had gone out. I called at 8pm on a Saturday evening and reached a dispatcher. A repairman called me back within a couple of minutes and offered helpful suggestions over the phone, which I tried. Unfortunately, it turned out they didn't solve the problem, so I called again and they sent Chris to my house. He was there in 30 minutes. Fantastic guy. Let me watch while he worked on the furnace and delivered a very informative commentary on what he was doing and why. Found a bad igniter, which he was able to replace. The air filter hadn't been replaced in years and was filthy, so he replaced that too. I have a humidifier system that's plumbed into the heating system, but the humidifier wasn't coming on. He found several issues there: bad solenoid valve, partially clogged water valve, partially clogged drain hole... he demonstrated everything to me, and fixed it all. I signed up for a twice-annual maintenance program paid for by a recurring $12.95 monthly charge, which earned me a 10% discount on this repair visit. So my filters will no longer be going unchecked for years due to laziness; the company will remind me when it's time to schedule a visit. I'm really happy with the work, and grateful that it got done so quickly on a Saturday night. This was great service.
Description of Work: Emergency service call. Diagnosed and replaced a bad igniter in the furnace. Then found a problem with the humidifier, demonstrated to me what was wrong, and fixed that too.

It was okay. But they were quite expensive. They diagnosed it for me good. But then the fix was very expensive. So, I ended up purchasing the materials and installing it myself. They estimated $1400 to repair it. The breaker itself cost about $200. So, I just went out and bought the breaker for $200 and paid myself $1200. They were timely about getting there. I would use them again in future for diagnosis. But, for repair, probably, no.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal from them. A large breaker needed replaced.

The whole process was great. From scheduling to cleanup everyone that I dealt with with punctual, professional and a pleasure to deal with. The humidifier is a simple manual unit and has worked well during the few cold days we've had the furnace on. I'd use this company again.
