Description of Work: Schubert repaired a leaking flange in my steam heat piping system. They came promptly the next morning after I called. They needed to fabricate a new gasket and replace several corroded bolts during the repair. All work was done well and no leaks have appeared after the new gasket was installed.

Description of Work: Dishwasher repair. He was polite, neat and quick and was careful to find out if it was OK with me to have his assistant/apprentice with him. I also asked him to look at a bathroom sink drain and he quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed it, as well as stabilizing the sink to the wall.

Description of Work: Contacted this company to do some plumbing repairs on a rental property. Left voice mail. Got a call back 4 hrs later. Explained situation and stated that I wanted something done relatively quickly as tenant no longer had use of kitchen sink. Said they would call back that evening. I left a voice mail with them that evening stating a second number I could be reached at. Never received a call back. Had to go with another plumber. This is poor customer service; if they were not interested in the work or too busy, they could still have called to let me know that. | |If you read through other comments on this company you will see others who have reported this issue of not returning calls. I made the mistake of ignoring those comments as there were so many positive comments.

Response from Schubert Plumbing & Heating
I do apologize! Could we have written telephone number wrong? YES. Could telephone number been given to us wrong? YES. Both have happened to us in the past. I am willing to take responsibility for the error. Again Schubert Plumbing does apologize, although we never spoke to (Member name removed) or did any work for him. We have been in business for over 25 years and of course we will answer all phone calls. It is not always a perfect system. Customer satisfaction is our #1 priority. Sincerely, Andrew Schubert

I woke up one morning to the water company pumping water from under the sidewalk in front of my house. Five minutes later I get a call from Penn. Am. Water telling me there was a water leak in my line, so they shut off my water. Goodbye and good morning. Seriously, that's all they told me. I asked if they could recommend anyone to call. They said no. But I had to fix the problem before the water could be turned back on. I knew I was looking at a major bill in the near future. I'd been throwing away those water/sewer line insurance solicitations that come with the bills every so often. They carefully explain just how screwed you'll be if an underground line breaks on your property. You'll be faced with a bill in the thousands range. Most homeowner's policy's don't cover it. (I called mine, they said they'd never heard of such a problem). And you'll be scrambling to find a qualified plumber/excavator with the right equipment (small back-hoe, jack hammer, etc). Thankfully, I knew about Angie's list. I decided to get three estimates. I had to call 5 different companies. One never answered the phone, or returned a message. Another said they'd call back to schedule, but never did. One large national company gave me an estimate $2,500 and $4,500 higher than nearest competitor. That company was so large that a "real" plumber didn't even come to my house to give the estimate. Instead an "estimate technician" came to examine the problem. You guessed it, that guy didn't seem to know what he was doing. He had to call his manager twice before he could give me their outrageous price. Basically, I ended up with two decent estimates and one loser. Schubert plumbing and another local company. Both struck me as very similar. They were local companies that had the necessary digging equipment. Both estimators seemed to really know what they were talking about. Both estimators were professional, and just nice guys. By the way each of my estimates had a best case scenario price and a worst case price. Based on where the leak was along the pipe, and therefor how much ground had to be dug up, and could a small section be replaced or would the complete water line need replaced. I went with Schubert plumbing for the following reasons. Price, of course, Schubert's best case price was $350 cheaper, worst case was $1100 cheaper than his competition. Also the estimator had a better method for dealing with a total pipe replacement (worst case), thus the cheaper price. The company is small, but owned all the needed equipment and could start right away. Bottom line, the day after I signed with Schubert I had running water. Two days later, after the next-day inspection, the sidewalk was replaced. There was great communication throughout the process. I knew what was happening each step of the way. Final note: the original best case estimate was $1300. Andy informed me of the %10 Angie's List first time customer discount (I didn't even know it existed), bringing my total to $1170)!
Description of Work: Andy and his crew pulled up the sidewalk and dug the three(?) foot deep hole to expose where my water line meets the city's. Luckily, my water line was cracked only a few inches from the city/home owner junction. He replaced that section of pipe using a more appropriate coupling. The actual work took about half a day. He also set up the county inspection to occur on day 2. His work passed with praise from the inspector. On day 3, the whole was filled, and the new sidewalk poured.

Andy (owner) came out to give an estimate the day after I called and arrived promptly. He was very patient while I described how things were being moved around, and he quoted a price while there. He and Rege arrived the next day to do the plumbing work, and came back the next week for the dryer venting as the dryer was shipped later. They explained everything carefully, showed us what they would be doing, completed the work promptly and kept everything neat.
Description of Work: They plumbed a washer and vented a dryer, which had been moved to a new area of the house. Their price was very reasonable, and much lower than the other estimate I obtained.

Andy & his 2 assistants arrived 1/2 hour early, proceeded to cover all carpet/surfaces leading to the basement as this would be a messy job. The spent a few hours removing the concrete surrounding the main sewer stack and floor drain. Minimal down time for the sewer line - it was only unhooked for about 1.5 hours (we couldn't use the toilets during that time - big deal when you have kids in the house). Andy and his crew were efficient and courteous. They even took photos for me - I didn't want to get in their way as the laundry room where they were working was small. The put new concrete in to patch the floor and cleaned up perfectly! Best thing was, Andy had the best estimate out of 3 plumbers. I would hire him again!
Description of Work: The main sewer line where it went into the basement floor was removed and replaced. Also the p-trap in the basement floor was removed and replaced. Both pipes were broken and allowing sewage to collect and drain flies to accumulate.

Was having a water-hammering problem in the house we recently moved in to. Andy came the day after I called and determined the problem was merely that the water regulator was set too high. He backed it down and so far the problem is fixed. He wouldn't take any money since he was in area and it turned out to be an easy fix (for him). He said to call again if we have further problems -- you can bet we will.
Description of Work: Identified and corrected a mis-adjusted water regulator as the cause of water-hammering issues.

Tenants were having problems with recurrent sewage backups in the basement, and another company had camera'ed the line and shown where some corrosion/irregularities on the old cast iron pipes could be causing debris to accumulate/clog. Options were to try to pressure clean (which might or might not solve the problem), or replace the section of pipe directly before the house trap & house trap. My partner & I opted to replace the pipe, and Schubert Plumbing had not only the lowest estimate, but also seemed like they'd be the best to work with. Once the floor was dug up & the sewer line exposed, a large crack was exposed where the sewer line ran *directly* below one of the main supports of the house. Andy Schubert came up with a plan to just disconnect the section of pipe that ran under the support, run a new line around the support beam & re-connect with the existing line, rather than worry about disturbing the house support, which was a big concern for us. While this of course added to the initial estimate of the job (initial estimate $1440), that was through no fault of his -- whoever installed a sewer line directly below a support for the house should have their head examined! I'm very happy with the work performed & service received from Schubert Plumbing -- they only had the house water off for a couple of hours while switching out the pipes, which was very helpful to the tenants, and they always left the work site as clean as possible. Give them a call!
Description of Work: Installed new house trap on main sewer line & replaced 6"+ of sewer line below basement floor, plus ran new sewer line around cracked section of line below house support.

My single handle shower faucet would not turn the water off after a morning shower. I shut the main water valve and called Andy, almost in a panic. He came out the same day and replaced the shower fixtures, including needing to cut a hole in a closet wall for access to the shower - there was no access panel. When Andy finished there was absolutely no mess, the piece of wall that had been removed was neatly and firmly put back into place with the addition of two wood boards (unseen) and screws, and my closet looked the same as before the work.
Description of Work: Andy replaced a thirty year old single handle shower faucet that had ceased working, including creating a new access panel to the plumbing fixtures for the shower.

Mr. Schubert arrived before the appointed time. After I explained and showed the problems, he got right to work. He and his assistant worked attentively and figured out the best way to solve the problems. The way they talked was professional and sincere, and the work was executed to my full satisfaction. They are not salesmen who exaggerate the scope of the work to be done and then charge accordingly, but they are dedicated hard-working honest plumbers. He rendered very detailed itemized bill (both for parts and labor), instead of giving a single dollar amount for the work. I found his charge objective, fair, and thus agreeable. Many craftspeople I had asked to do various jobs for my house remodeling in the past 10 months quoted just a flat rate for everything, such as $3580 for doing this and that. This type of billing leaves a lot of room for covering excessive charges to the customers, and in fact, according to my experience of the past 10 months, they usually charge much more than we commonsensically anticipate. In this sense also, Mr. Schubert was conscientious and honest, and actually his charge was modest. Yes, we will call him anytime we need plumbing work done, and will recommend him to our friends.
Description of Work: 1) Stopping leakage from a bathroom sink and a closet into the crawlspace underneath. This required the removal of the vanity and the closet. Mr. Schubert found that the drain pipe from the sink was totally missing. A previously hired plumber had taken it away, and not tested the water flow after his work. Mr. Schubert installed a new drain pipe and a new waste pipe. Also he replaced the wax ring on the closet flange, secured a new anchor, and re-seated the closet. He also fixed the leakage from the toilet water tank, and replaced its internal mechanism. 2) Re-routing of water pipes in the basement. 3) Servicing a furnace and cleaning the furnace and water heater vents.
