They were there on the time agreed and were done by approximately noon. I couldn't be more pleased with the installation and explanation of care and maintenance of the door. All paperwork for the door was also given to me.

I would not know - they never even bothered to return my phone message. Customer service is horrible!
Description of Work: This company did not even have the courtesy to return my phone message to have our garage door repaired. I'm irritated that they are asking for a review of their service when they never even bothered to return my phone call! We used ANOTHER company (D&D) over a month ago and they returned my phone calls and completed the needed repair.

I ended up going with someone from my church. They were comparable to the other company. I asked them a specific question and they gave me a specific answer. I was very pleased with the work done by the other company so I have already established a relationship with this other company.

The repairman arrived promptly as promised about 9:30 PM. He was courteous and professional and replaced two springs and the center anchor piece in about an hour. He told me the springs needed to be replaced in pairs. I watched him do the job and have no questions about his skills and explanations. However when he presented the bill, I was overwhelmed at the price. The springs alone were billed at $156 apiece. I would not use this company again because of the price of the job.

They were very professional. They gave us lots of options when we had to replace it. They did a wonderful job installing. They came whenever we called them. They were very prompt and they came when they said they would. They ordered the door and it came when they said it would. They came and installed it. Instead of being able to hear our garage door close all over the neighborhood, now we can't even hear it. They are very good. When he came for the estimate, he secured the garage door and made sure that it could not be opened by anyone; no one could break into our house. They did a very thorough job.

It took him about 15 minutes to replace these parts. I feel that he rushed through the job. I consulted another company and found that I was completely over charged. He put in new parts when it was not necessary to do so. We are still having intermittent problems with the garage door closing.
Description of Work: Our garage door would not close. We had just moved, so we had a lot of stuff in the garage. I didn't want to leave the door open so we needed immediate help. We called Precision and they replaced the springs, FR 19 cables, wide drums, end bearings, center bearing and nylon rollers.

The broken spring and related pulley damage resulted in trapping the car in the garage. Made a telephone appointment on the basis of a service call to occur the Monday following the weekend. Cost basis indicated was $65.00 plus parts. I did not question the amount prior to service. "Needed the work done! Technician arrived a little early, and discussed two levels of service, cheaper of which comes with 5 yr. guarantee. That was selected. Service performed included some adjustments to second garage door alignment, replacement of two balance springs on the broken door plus new cable pulleys, lubrication of rails, hinges, etc. Time involved was approx. 2 hrs. Final cost was breathtaking $634.00.....Breakdown is roughly as follows: Set of two springs: $216.00 4 pulleys $116.00 2 Sets of Cables $256.00 10 Rollers $168.00 Svc. Call $65.00 Misc Adjust $62.00 Fuel surcharge $20.00 TOTAL $634.00 Having not questioned the amount prior to start of work, I simply paid up. By the way, both doors did work, and the work seems competent. Am I happy? Not at all. I was taken to the cleaners. I would caution all others to avoid this company. By the way, the BBB gives them an A rating.

Be careful of this company! They do the classic bait and switch. They fixed a garage door opener for us a few months ago. They did a reasonable job but it was getting dark and the guy said that he needed to finsh up and he would come back and put in a button by the back door - we never saw him again, in pte of several follow up calls. When our second garage door went, we decided to call them hoping that they would finally finish the first job while doing the new job. Someone else comes out and gave us a price that was more than double than what we paid a few months previously, even though the door that was done previously was double the size of the one now not working. When we questioned him about this, he said that we needed a whole lot of parts. We pointed out that the 2 doors were exactly the same and that his colleague had not changed what he was saying needed to be done. He had no answer - we pointed out to him that either way, Precision was at fault because either he was overcharging us for stuff we did not need this time, or that his colleague had not done the job correctly. We did not use him for the job though he did install the long time ago promised button.

We contacted Precision Door Company after receiving a mailer from them. They offered a garage door tuneup for $39. We needed to have our single car garage door balanced, and we thought that $39 was a good price for this since it essentially was a tuneup. I did receive an appointment quickly, and the technician was friendly and professional. However, that is where the good experience ends. This technician NEVER got a tool out of his truck. He told me everything that was wrong with our current garage door setup and then proceeded to give me an estimate for either new rails/rollers/bearings, or all that plus a new garage door. His estimates were approximately $700 for option #1 (no new door), or $1200-$1600 for all with a new door. Again, this is for a single car garage. These costs were supposedly a great deal because you get a lifetime warranty and were supposedly never to be faced with garage door expenses again. The technician was at my home for approximately 45 minutes. At the end of his "bait and switch" maneuver, I received an invoice for $44.95, which I paid. My husband was livid that evening - to have paid $44.95 for what was essentially a sales call! It was my fault for not having gone on Angie's List beforehand. I am a relatively new member and did not research this before calling. I read reviews on their site, and of course those are glowing ones. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!! I hope that this review can help others who may consider calling them.

When I went to leave for work on a Saturday I couldn't get into the garage using the key pad. So my car was trapped. Like lots of Pittsburgh garages, it is detached and built into a hillside with no way in other than the garage door. Rather than go back in the house and dig for the spare remote, I pulled the manual override cord. Since there is no exterior handle on the door it's not always easy to get the door up; but this time it wouldn't budge and any attempts at using a crow bar indicated that the lift mechanism must still be engaged. There are lots of garage door people in the yellow pages and on Angie's List, but I chose Precision because their ad emphasized same day emergency service and there was a coupon in the phone book for a $40 service call that could be applied to any repair. I had a feeling that it would be a simple fix. And it was. I called and a pleasant service rep gave me a time frame 4 hours later to expect a technician. Within a half hour Bill called and said he could be there in 1/2 hour and he was. Yes, it was an easy fix that only required pulling on the release cord WHILE pulling up on the door. That wasn't necessary other times I've used the manual override. Bill was very nice and showed me how to reset the lift mechanism without having to get out the ladder - who knew? He also installed a lift plate on the outside front of the door so I'd have something to pull on should this happen again. He also realigned and tightened the senor lights, which I'd had problems with in the past. He also recommended installing new neoprene rollers and explained why it is never necessary to put lubricant on the track; something I would have done! It was a very good experience all around.

It was bitterly cold outside when one of the springs on my walker-bound mother's garage door broke. She could not physically manage to close the garage door manually. Panicked, Mom looked for a repair service in the Yellow Pages and was relieved that Precision could perform a repair that same day. Precision charged my 85 year old widowed mother almost $400 for the simple replacement of a ~$30 spring set plus labor. According to several other contractors, that repair should have cost much, much, MUCH less and did not require the purchase of additional rollers. I believe this company took advantage of the uninformed elderly in charging exorbitant fees for a relatively inexpensive repair.
Description of Work: Precision offered same-day service to replace a broken garage door spring. They showed up promptly- but then insisted on replacing the accompanying rollers in order to provide any warranty.

Would not recommend this service provider.
Description of Work: I called Precision off a coupon from one of those mail services. I had a garage door that was making a loud noise when it went up or down. Figured it was the mechanism. Well, the guy showed up and told my husband that the entire pully system for BOTH doors would be replaced and he estimated approx $2000. He stated that the doors were unsafe. We paid the $39 service call and thanked him for the estimate and sent him on his way. He left withour reengaging our doors. I called another provider that fixed the door for $100. No comment about it being unsafe. Works fine now. I feel like this was some sort of intimidation sales tactic. Will NEVER call them again. Will never call a service company without checking the list either!

The service technician could replace the small plastic gear for $189 plus tax plus the service fee but couldn't warranty it. When I suggested I could replace the entire 1/3 HP single door opener for about that amount he told me how my contractor grade product was not good enough and for $1300 he could replace the opener ($600) and install new rollers and do an overhaul and warranty it for as long as I live in the home. What a racket! I would have given him $35 for the part plus the service fee, but his estimates were crazy. I explained the problem on the phone and the person who took my call told me this was a common problem and it could likely be corrected during the initial service call. Classic bait and switch.

I had a spring break on our garage door on Thanksgiving evening. It is a double door and too heavy to lift and our two cars were inside. Precision advertises 24 hour service so I called and was given an appointment the next day. The service man came, on time, opened the door (a hard job) took his tools inside and then closed the door. He checked out our opener to make sure it was not damaged (a good thing) and then looked at the door. He said we needed two springs (only one was broken) and new rollers as they were starting to fail. He told me that it would cost about $600. I told him we were thinking about eventually getting a new door and asked what that would cost. He said about $1600. I told him I wasn't interested in putting $600 into an old door and asked if we bought the new door from him, would he raise the door on the current one so I could get my cars out. He told me he was not allowed to lift the door, even though he had already lifted it once. I then asked if he could replace just the broken spring so I could get my cars out. He told me he wasn't allowed to do that either, he had to do both or none, for a price of $365. But if he did that and not the rollers I would get no warranty on the springs. So basically, in order to get my cars out I had to replace two springs even though I really just need a garage door. I have used other companies in the past who have replaced only one spring and have cheerfully lifted the door. I will not use this company again.

We felt that by telling us that the door and gear/sprocket were unfixable, (which cost us $115 with contractor #2 rather than the $189 that they would have charged us "if they could have" replaced it), and by writing down that the door was unsafe, that Precision was trying to pull a bait and switch, gambling on scaring us to buy a new garage door from them as soon as possible. They wrote up an estimate for a new garage door that same day. The price was almost as high as what we ultimately paid Contractor #3, which included more replacement mechanics and, most importantly, a higher quality door in terms of insulation value and warranty.
Description of Work: Garage door was out of balance, and gear and sprocket were stripped. Instead of replacing the gear and sprocket, they insisted that the door needed replacement ASAP. We needed to call Contractor #2 to replace the gear and sprocket, which worked just fine for 4.5 months until a new garage door was installed by Contractor #3, mainly for much improved insulation value, appearance, and future reliability rather than the imminent danger predicted by Precision.

I had a gotten a coupon for them to check it out and do some maintenance. I called them and it was supposed to be $39, but it actually did not turn out like that. There was additional cost because I had this trouble with the door. They had to do a little more work than they had thought. However, everything is working fine now. I would rate them a little lower than an A because the charge was not really what it was supposed to be. I can t recall the final price.
Description of Work: My garage door was acting up. It did not have a safety thing on it, so when it came down, it really came down. I hired Precision to check it out and do some maintenance on it. They had to install the safety thing that it did not have.

They arrived a couple of hours late, although they did call to say that they would be late. Please don't laugh when I say that the man looked around for a moment and then moved a piece of 2x4 that somehow got moved in front of the "electric eye". So, that problem was solved and that was all the "work" they did. When I asked if there was a way to fix the squealing doors, he started into a sales pitch about how I should have the units and tracks (not the doors) both replaced because they were old, and they could do them right now for the verbal price they quoted. It is true they are older units, but I said that I didn't do things without a written estimate and time to think about it. I had to ask several times for him to write an estimate, while he kept trying to get me to agree to doing the job done then and there. I finally got a written estimate, and a bill payable immediately for $85 for moving a 2x4 and grudgingly giving me a written estimate. They won't get my business.
Description of Work: I called them because my garage door would not go down unless I held the button in until the door was all the way down. The doors also squeak on the track when going up and down and I wanted to know if that could be fixed.

Precision Door is a franchise and phone calls are serviced by a national customer service line. The service call is 65.- with no hourly rate. There is an additional charge 20. (They call it ''Energy Surcharge'' - I got different explanations for this). Rich was very professional (former Electrician and since 4 month working for Precision Door. So I felt reassured that the Opener at least was installed correctly) Tom B., the Franchise owner, does not easily return phone calls. The customer service operators, however, were very friendly and apologized each time for the inconvenience we experienced. The ultimate test is going to be whether the door and the opener will still be working 5 yrs from now. At a total cost of 1,045.-I sincerely hope so.
Description of Work: 2/5/06 Our garage door is disabled. Service Call by Rich on 2/7/06; Garage door opener (5yrs old) beyond repair. New opener costs 450 (nothing cheaper since they deal only with Marantec and some other Co. even more expensive.); cost: 450. After installation, we noticed the top panel of the Clopay aluminum garage door (5yrs old), was buckling and making a loud noise when opening. Precision Door suggested a new panel. On 2/25/06 Rich comes with the new panel. Panel does not fit because they ordered the wrong one. Another 2wks pass. In the meantime (after paying a total of 695) we could not use the garage (in winter!). Finally, on 3/14/06 the panel was installed and the garage door works!!! Total repair time: 5wks

They answered their phone in the evening and we were able to make an appt for 6pm the following evening. They worked until 1:30am! Our garage door has never worked better and it was evident after he was done just how poor of shape the hardware was in before the repair. One oddity - he gave us a $100 discount for paying $100 in cash. The $100 cash he told us was just between us. I wasn't very comfortable with that, but we took the discount. Lifetime warranty on the parts and labor.

How does one know for sure when one is on the receiving end of a ''sales'' job. One does not. Enough said. Our neighbours report that the serviceman pulled out of our driveway at a very high speed and tore down the road; a road on which children were playing. The driving behaviour frightened our neigbours.
Description of Work: A repairman responded to a call to repair our door which stopped working on a Sunday. The bolt holding a pulley had broken. Tom C inspected the problem and said that it would cost $858 to install a new central torsion system. When I balked at the cost he disdainfully offered an ''inferior and not very safe'' repair that would cost $375. I declined any further work until I received competitive quotes. I asked if he would help me manually open the garage door so that we could at least get our car out. He declined, saying that he would not move the door unless it was to repair it. He charged $65 for a ''service call.'' I exclaimed that that was the most expensive quote I hade ever received but that I would pay him in recognition of the fact that he had responded to our call on a Sunday. We then called in a competitor who repaired the door for $130.
