The basement windows went well and look really good. I had one done last year and it looked so good I decided to have the other two in my basement replaced along with a bathroom window. When they first came out to measure they advised there would be no problem replacing the bathroom window. The cost was twice as much as a basement window but, they explained it was a little more complicated to do a bathroom window. I asked and was assured the block window would fit and I would not have to have any additional repair work done after the window was installed. When I read the contract it indicated Pgh Glass was not responsible for any repair work such as plastering, wood trim, and finishes other than mortar. I noted on the contract that I was told there would be no need for plastering etc. because the window would fit so my expectation was there should be no need for that type of additional work. I got a call about my note on the contract and again explained I did not want the window if I was going to have to have another workman come in to plaster or repair anything because the new window did not fit the space. I was told Pgh glass would send out the men who were actually installing the window to measure it again to be sure. They came out and measured again and expressed no concerns. However, once the window was actually installed I found that it sat back about 4 inches further than my old window did leaving old tile that is a different color than the tile on half of my windowsill and walls surrounding the new window. Now it's going to cost over $400.00 to paint the newly exposed tile and, the company who originally did the tile no long has the color I need. Also, there is mortar used to secure the window along the edge of most of the new glass blocks which needs to be scraped off. Lastly the mortar used between the blocks is grey which I was not expecting for a bathroom window, The basements windows do not have grey mortar between each block. When I called about the window not fitting into the space as far in as the old one did leaving the old tile exposed I was told bathroom windows are tricky, you never can tell what will be found, and that the women I talked to about my concerns at the time I signed the contract had tried to warn me not to replace the bathroom window. I was also told to buy a paint scraper to scrape of the excess mortar on the new window myself. This is exactly why I asked when I signed the contract if they would confirm the window would fit in a manner I would not have to have further work done. I was assured after the second measurement that would be the case. Not sure why Pittsburgh Glass block would advertise they do bathroom windows and then explain that they are often tricky to put in and further repairs might be needed after it's installed. Also why the color between each block is grey which does not look great in a bathroom. Lastly, why I would be tasked with buying a paint scraper to scrape off excess mortar. Pittsburgh Glass block did not offer to do anything to correct any of these issues.

This was a very professional operation and quality service throughout. They came out and measured and confirmed cost. There were several weather related delays when it would have been too cold to open and cement in windows which we all agreed was for the best -- we communicated consistently to reschedule and it worked well. Job was neat and cleaned up afterward removing old windows.

From the scheduling of the initial appointment, to the day of installation, everything went well. The sales guy was not overbearing, and answered all of my questions. When the appointment was set up, they worked with me to find a convenient date/time. The installer came on time and worked quickly and efficiently to get things done. All-in-all, a good experience. The quality-of-window is nice too!

Bruce showed up and gave us 20% off right away when we mentioned Angie's List! We picked out the design and gave him a check for $100.00 down payment and selected a date that was good for us. The worker showed up a few weeks later on time and installed the windows in 2 hours. He took the old windows with him and cleaned up when finished. All went well without any issues.

Was very impressed with the two guys that came to measure, then install the window. The glass block turned out to be one piece which was a nice surprise and took all of two hours. Wish I had called them years ago. Was painless and extremely cost effective. Plus the guys were very very nice. Thank you.

The provider was very punctual int the first measuring day. he was very nice and he responded all of my questions. he made the measurements of one of my windowsand I told him that I was thinking of doing my other window too...but my other window was covered with an old cabinet,.Which it was hard fo him to measure it, but he still did .He advised me, that if I get somebody to take out that old cabinet, he can come and do my other window too. the provider was very good, and detailed at his job.. The day of the job, he called before he came, and when he got here, did his job very good and neat.. The glass block window, was very nice installed and looks great! l am certainly using this company for my other window, and I highly recommend this company. From the secretary that called me to schedule the appointment ,to the last day, every thing was done in a very professional way.

He was on time! Arrived at 9:15 day of installation. He was very professional and hard working. Procedure took only 2 1/2 hrs, he cleaned up very neatly after he was through. Would definetly hire him again. Very pleasant! Did Shop around...this was definetly the BEST price anywhere that we got. We got the whole deal which included 3 vented glass block windows for $488.00 which included a $23.00 upcharge for 1 extra large window.

Called on August 5th to get a quote for two glass block windows and was able to schedule an appointment on the same day. The salesman arrived on time and was very professional and personable. A discount was applied for mentioning Angie's List. He was also very responsive in providing additional information regarding the cost to add vent windows and the configuration of the windows. Ordered 2 windows that were 4 blocks wide, 3 blocks tall with top row being 8x6 vs 8x8 for the other rows. Vent windows were positioned in the center of the middle row of both windows. Dryer vent was able to be next to the vent window. I received a call to schedule the install a few days after mailing in my signed quote and deposit. I verified that the vent windows were added to the order. The appointment was originally scheduled for August 26th, but I received a call about an hour prior to my appointment time that the morning job ran over and they needed to reschedule my install. While this was a minor inconvenience, it was easy to get another appointment for September 2nd. The installers arrived on time. After a brief introduction they immediately got to work. I was surprised to learn that the windows were already assembled, so I verified that they were configured as requested since changes were made over the phone. The windows were perfect. The installers finished in just over an hour and did a great job of cleaning up. The new windows look BEAUTIFUL!! Thank you to everyone at Pittsburgh Glass Block for the excellent customer service. What a great team!

Because of rain and weather problems, I could not get the job done till 05/06/2015. The installer Jeff arrived at the time we had requested and went right to work. The original glass block windows had been installed partially below side walk level and Jeff explained as did Tom, that was an improper installation and both windows had to be built up. Jeff started work at approximately 9:30a.m and finally left at about 2:30 p.m. He worked very fast, but with care as my basement is a wood paneled affair and the wood had to be handled carefully. I asked Jeff numerous times if I could provide anything, but he came fully prepared with whatever he would need for his stay! The job went well and my wife and I are so happy not only with the finished product, but the care Jeff took. I will let any one I know the fine work Pittsburgh Glass Block does.
Description of Work: I had some problems with a glass block window in my basement installed many years ago. Found out that it would be nearly impossible to fix a single glass block and went to Angie's list for ideas. Upon reading the reviews for Pittsburgh Glass Block, contacted them and got an appointment for the sales person to call at my home on 04/09/2015. After a thorough inspection of our thirty some year old windows, Tom the inspector showed my wife and I two glass block windows that were in dire trouble and we also decided to add a third glass window for Security reasons.

Installation went as planned. Replaced 9 basement windows in less than 6 hours. This included some necessary woodwork to repair damaged wood surrounding the windows. Tom from sales was very punctual on a Saturday morning visit for an estimate to replace 5 basement windows with glass block. The quote was far lower than the expected number in my head since I had done the research for the cost of doing the work on my own. The company makes their own glass blocks so they can pass on the savings to cover some labor costs. Installer Jeff also came on a Saturday morning and not only finished early but did an amazing job. He was very articulate about the mortar around the windows and didn't leave any mess. I'm so glad I didn't attempt this task and let the professionals handle it.
