aThe freezer stopped working. We had George Clark from Mr.Appliance come, he told us it needed 3 parts which were order and we were told would come in within a week. The parts came in and were installed, however the freezer still would not maintain it's temperature. After another visit and work done, we were told the compressor was not working. We were quoted a figure of $1200 for new parts. George was honest with us, said they had made a mistake and applied the amount we had already paid toward the new parts, which cut the cost in half.

It went well. They had to come back a few times to ensure that everything was working really well. Very professional courteous thorough and responsive. Will definitely use them again if needed for any other appliance issues. I guess these parts are expensive to replace! Other than the cost I had no issues.

We called them and they came out the day after we called. They were great to work with. One technician came out, diagnosed the problem, installed some parts (he did have to run out to get some new parts too) and put it back together. In the end, the dryer worked after he left. It would have been nice to have them here sooner, but we didn’t have to wait that long for them to come out. Once they got here, the visit went fine, and the price was reasonable.

I called Mr. Appliance because my front-loading Bosch washer wasn't spinning. I was able to get an appointment the week following my call. As promised, they sent an email the night before, giving me a time window for service and the name of the technician. The morning of service, they called to let me know that James would be there shortly. He arrived within 10 minutes, introduced himself and asked what the problem with the machine was. I explained the problem and he said he would check it out and let me know if if could be fixed and what a cost estimate would be. He checked the machine thoroughly and told me that the cost to replace the motor and motor control board would be more than half the original cost of the machine. Since it is more than 8 yrs old and I'm not pleased with it anyway, his recommendation was to purchase a new machine. He gave me some suggestions of type of machine to consider and pros and cons of each. James was very professional throughout the visit and I appreciated his honesty. I thought their charge for the service call in their local area of $75.00 (which I understand would have been applied to the repairs) was reasonable. I will definitely call Mr. Appliance again if any of my other large appliances develop problems.

Well...Just one hour before the technician's scheduled time( noon on Saturday) we got the phone call that he can not come because he called off. They could have called us in the morning. We put all other stuff on hold for these guys and instead of sending someone else they wanted to reschedule. So we have now literally two options that either take a day off during weekdays for these guys or wait till next weekend for repair. Well not a good experience, so we will find someone else.

Response from Mr. Appliance of Pittsburgh
I apologize for the inconvenience to you. We only had one technician working on that Saturday and he had advised us that he was going to try to come in by noon. He called before your appointment that he was just too sick to make it in today and the office called you. The unfortunate part of being a small business is that when somebody calls off we don't have anybody to cover for them. Please accept my apologies. Have a great day Edwin Moore

Scheduled appt on line. Got a confirmation call. On day of the appt, office contacted me to say technician was running ahead of schedule and could he come earlier. James arrived promptly, was very professional and thorough. He quickly diagnosed the problem and had the needed part in his service vehicle. Repair completed in less than an hour.

I made the appointment online at a convenient time, 12 to 4 on a Saturday. They tightened the schedule to 1:30 to 3:30 the day before via an e-mail. They called 20 minutes before arrival. The technician Ryan was very friendly and quickly diagnosed the problem of no heat in our 23 yr. Maytag gas dryer as a faulty igniter, confirming my guess. The part was on his truck, and the whole repair took less than 1/2 hour. Even the most fussy customer could not ask for better service.

I contacted Mr. Appliance roughly a week and half before they actually performed the service. I had originally requested that a technician come on Friday, September 27th, as I had already this date as a vacation day. I received a call asking if Mr. Appliance could reschedule my appointment the next day on Saturday, September 28th as they had a scheduling problem. I was not thrilled about this change since I had already scheduled a vacation day, but I agreed. I found out later during my conversation with the technician that another technician had cut open his hand badly enough to require a visit to the Emergency Room and receive stiches to close the wound. I accepted this explanation as to why my appointment was moved back a day, as I could understand how such an emergency as this could cause problems with their schedule. The technician did arrive early Saturday morning and quickly diagnosed the problem. The problem was a plastic gear that had broken. I learned this piece is what the motor uses to spin the basin, so without the gear, no spinning took place. The repairman did need to disable quite a few items in the wash to get to the broken piece of plastic. When he installed the new gear, the technician did install the gear on the wrong side of the motor, which caused a problem when he tried to reassemble the washing machine. In fairness, the left and right side of the motor looked virtually identical and I could understand how this mistake could happen. He did admit that a mistake was made, and then correctly installed the gear and reassembled the washing machine. I have run it twice since it was repaired, and it is again working correctly. The technician was also able to find the serial number and model number on the machine. It is in a place that I considered hidden. It is worth noting that the machine was part of the house I purchased several months ago, which is why I did not know the make and model of the washing machine. The technical was also very open to answering some additional questions that I had about the washing machine, as I did have some concerns about the machines age and durability. I would consider this a positive experience. I will call them again in the future.

Called about water dripping from the ice maker in the fridge. Tech assumed that the water was due to a clogged ice maker and presumably unclogged the ice maker. Ice maker wasn't clogged. The bar was in the up position so the water wouldn't drip. If the tech would have taken the time to see if the ice maker would start making ice after moving the bar into the down position, he would have seen that the ice maker wasn't stuck. When the company was told that the problem was still occurring, they wanted to charge to replace a part. I informed them that there is a known defect with the fridge and that the problem is caused by ice forming in the open tube feeding the ice maker. This issue is easily fixed by defrosting the freezer. When I pointed out that the tech made the wrong assumption about the stuck ice maker, as the problem was still occurring, I was then told that the ice machine was stuck and that the tech was correct in unclogging it. The fact that the ice maker was still dripping water was a separate issue and would require extra money to fix. I was then told that the tech would contact me which never occurred. To sum things up, I ended up paying $150 to Mr. Appliance for fixing an issue that didn't exist. I now have to either contact another company to actually fix the problem, have the tenants defrost the freezer (which I was trying to avoid), or purchase a new fridge.
Description of Work: Supposedly unclogged the ice maker. Ice maker wasn't clogged. The bar was in the up position so the water wouldn't drip. If the tech would have taken the time to see if the ice maker would start making ice after moving the bar into the down position, he would have seen that the ice maker wasn't stuck.

My service tech, James, was very polite and knew his stuff. We even discussed whether I should replace the dryer, but he said that my Maytag Dependable Care dryer was a "great model"-- made when Maytag was Maytag. He was here at the exact beginning of the appointment window, was very personable and only spent about 30 mins here. I paid a more to have him provide/install the part, but I am not a do-it-yourselfer, so I was glad to get it done and get back to laundry!

We had attempted to fix the icemaker on our own. Ordered new parts, etc. Still not working. The technician from Mr. Appliance had it fixed in no time and showed us how to fix it in case we have the same problem. The tech called before arriving, performed the work promptly and with no mess. I would definitely use this company again.

He explained that as it drained when told to (when the "cancel" button was pressed) that the problem could have been a power surge - we have had a lot of thunderstorms lately - and would be corrected by this action. If it was not, if it didn't drain next time, that it would likely need a new computer part. He took the model number and said it would be on file in case the problem wasn't corrected, and if I called him he would order the part and come and replace it. I paid the call-out charge and was happy with the service.

We had already cleaned out the filters but that did not resolve it. George determined that the problem was in the drain pump. He had the part with him and was able to replace it quickly. He told me how much it would be before he replaced the part and verified that I wanted it done. He also gave advice on how to properly maintain the washer to keep it running well. He was prompt and courteous. I would definitely use Mr. Appliance again.

George Clark - Service Technician - arrived within the appointed window of time and was very gracious, friendly, and helpful. He checked things out, shortened the length of exhaust piping, cleaned lint from the hose, and did a general check out of the unit. He advised that the heat we felt on the top of the dryer was normal due to the location of the heat coils and the control mechanism(s). Unfortunately, within a few minues after leaving, we then discovered that the washer was no longer working. After calling the number on the business card he'd left, the dispatcher had him return within half an hour or so. After looking over the washer he determined that it was simply a matter of re-setting the control panel lock (I didn't' even know the unit had this feature) - we'd concluded that either he or I had inadvertently leaned on the washer's control buttons in such a way to engage the lock. either way, he was able to quickly diagnose the problem and did not charge for the return visit. In all, George did an excellent job - he is obviously attuned to the customers needs, answers questions clearly and concisely, and was very professional in his work. My only complaint is that it cost me $113 to find out there was nothing wrong - but it was worth it to have a professional confirm that. Thanks George!

Had a load of clothes in the washer. When the washer was to spin out the wash water nothing would happen. I tried all the cycles and none would spin out the water. This was on a Thursday evening. Friday I called Mr. Appliance and spoke with Randi. She was very nice and accomidating when it came to scheduling a service call around my schedule. The soonest a repairman could come was the next Tuesday (which was earlied than another Angie's List company). Randi said I would receive an email the day before (which I did) with the time frame I could expect the service man. She also told me the name of the service man and there would be an initial charge of $69.95 for the service call plus any parts. On the day of appointment I received a phone call around 2:40 saying the service man was on his way. He was at my door within 10 minutes of the call. I told him what was wrong & showed him the part that had broken off. He knew exactly what to and got the part from the truck. He told me how much the part was before replacing it. Within a few minutes he had fixed it and I heard the sweet sound of water draining from my washer. BTW-the service man's name is James. As soon as he left I had a load of wash in the machine and all went smoothly.

My husband and I have a rental property that needed a new stove. The first one we had delivered did not work. They decided to give us an upgraded one that we did not find out did not work until our tenants used the oven and smelled gas. The gas company said the regulator was broken. Rather than deal with the terrible place we purchased it from, we called Mr. Appliance. They came out when they said they would and were very professional. They agreed it was the regulator and ordered it. James was the man who came out and he came back once the part arrived. They are very quick to call and schedule times and also call before they come. James, knowing it was a new appliance, took down the serial numbers and said since it was under warranty it would be covered and we would not have to owe since it was just purchased. He had knowledge of the product. He took an extra step for us which was so appreciated. He fixed it and knew what he was doing which also seems to be very hard to find today. They are very dependable and dealing with someone so professional who actually knew what he was talking about was refreshing.

The initial visit went very smoothly, and the tech was very professional and careful. The second visit, when he fixed the cause of the noise and scraping, went nearly as well but the poor guy seemed to suffer a rapid onset of flu or similar -- he literally turned gray during the course of the visit. He admitted he was feeling really bad, finished up quickly and departed with profuse apologies. (He was even careful not to shake my hand or touch anything I would touch so as not to infect me.) The dryer has worked beautifully ever since. He didn't do the most meticulous job of putting the area to rights afterward in terms of making sure the machines and doors were back in their places/tracks after shifting them to do the work, but I can hardly blame him -- he must have been burning up -- and I was able to straighten everything out myself. I got a nice thank-you card for the business about a week later.
Description of Work: Initial visit involved giving my dryer a thorough checkup with a general cleaning and special attention to a metallic scraping noise I rightly suspected it shouldn't have been making. Follow-up visit involved installation of part to fix it.

Response from Mr. Appliance of Pittsburgh
In response to the complaint. The customer insisted we have the parts when we came out, so she gave us the model number and we looked up the parts to find out that any one of 8 parts could be the problem and 2 were very expensive. She got frustrated and still insisted we come with parts, which we weren't going to order and charge her for parts she didn't need and since we couldn't return the unused parts we would have to charge her for them. Finally she decided to have us out, but at the time the tech was to come out she changed her mind and wanted us to have the parts. The tech knowing that it could be one of the 8 parts that combined were over $150.00 he tried to get more information from her, but she couldn't give it to him. He asked her if she had access to the internet and she told him yes so he gave her a web site she could see the setup and possibly give us a number or better description. In the process of trying to save a customer time and money by trying to be helpfull we are accused of being rude and treating the customer baddly. Had the customer not insisted we have the parts with us and let us come out and decide what she needed this would never have ended like this. She also would have paid no more for the repair if we had the parts on the truck, than if we came out and had to order parts. She was trying to save herself money by insisting we make one trip, when it would have not cost anymore for us to make 2 trips.
