Metro Heating & Cooling is a family owned and operated company. We have been serving the Pittsburgh and surrounding areas since 1957, when William “W.C.” Wessner Sr founded the company. We are now on our 3rd generation. The company has maintained key staff, and thanks to our installers and service technicians, some of whom have been with us for over 20 years, keeping the quality and reputation of our work and company intact. We have been a top provider on Angie’s List since 2005 and one of the top Carrier dealers in the Pittsburgh area. The Wessner’s are active in Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) and they have all served as president of that group.

Description of Work: I have been using them for about 10 years. They come out and check my furnace on a regular. We thought we broke our thermostat and it was one of the coldest winter day. We call Metro and they answered right away and was here within and hour. The office manger was very responsive to out emergency.

The furnace quit working in 2 days. I called them, and they came at dinner time within a half an hour, and they found a problem with the wiring. In no time, the furnace was working again, and we have had no other problems with it.

Good enough. The guy was nice, responsive to questions, and informative. But once we got a second opinion, we thought he was trying to sell us something we did not need.
Description of Work: They were called in on a solicitation we got. They did cleaning & preparing for winter. They also gave suggestion for further work that a second opinion said we didn't need.

Mr. Wessner came promptly when scheduled and made a thorough assessment of what the job would take. He called back a few days later to say he would need to bring his partner for a second appraisal of the job before making an estimate. They came as scheduled and made another thorough assessment. They explained the system they would install very clearly. They both seemed nervous about the job, which would be complicated due to the layout of the house. I appreciated their thoroughness and promptness even though I would probably not have chosen the company to do the work. I do wish they had called when they said they would to say they didn't want the job.
Description of Work: Called to arrange for an estimate on whole-house A/C. Bill Wessner made two visits, the second with his brother, who is partner. They apparently decided not to bid on the job, and in any case I chose not to install the kind of conventional A/C system they sell.

The serviceman was quick and attentive to the problem. He came in on short notice and was able to fix the problem and get my furnace back up and running within a day of getting the call. The price was fairly reasonable and clean up was thorough. I will surely use Metro again.
Description of Work: After smelling smoke emanating from my vents, I called Metro for an emergency repair. They sent someone the same day who assessed the problem and gave me an estimate. Two days later, he removed the old inducer motor, which had burnt out, and replaced it with new motor.

Metro Heating was very responsive. They arranged to come to the house and diagnose the problem around my schedule. Heath Weigner, the service technician, was very professional and provided options for work to be done. Since a part needed to be ordered, the work was done on another day. I left a key and work was done while I was away. When I returned, the work was complete and there was no mess left behind. The people in the office who I spoke with on the phone were also courteous and helpful.
Description of Work: Drained system. Replaced circulating pump. Refilled system.

PLEASANT AND EFFICIENT OVER THE PHONE TO MAKE THE APPOINTMENT. TECHNICIAN WAS ON TIME AND FRIENDLY. NOT TOO APPRECIATIVE THAT THEY CHARGE A ''FUEL FEE'' AFTER THE FACT. APPARENTLY THIS WAS ADDED AFTER MY MAKING THE APPOINTMENT, AND I THINK I SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT LEAST WARNED. I FOUND OUT WHEN I CALLED TO PAY THE BILL. THIS IS THE ONLY REASON WHY I'M GIVING THEM A B IN PRICE AND IN OVERALL EXPERIENCE.
Description of Work: FURNACE SAFETY-CHECK PRIOR TO TURNING ON THE HEATING IN THE HOUSE NO PROBLEMS WERE FOUND. A HUMIDIFIER WAS RECOMMENDED TO IMPROVE THE FEEL OF HEATING THE HOUSE THIS IS OUR FIRST YEAR IN OUR FIRST HOME, SO I DO NOT FEEL QUALIFIED TO GRADE THE ''QUALITY OF THEIR WORK''. METRO CANCELED THE FIRST SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT THE MORNING IT WAS SCHEDULED. FOR THE SECOND ONE, WHICH WAS 5 DAYS LATER, THE MECHANIC WAS 45 MIN. LATE, WHICH WAS NOT A BIG DEAL BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE IF THE SECRETARY HAD CALLED TO INFORM ME. THE JOB HE DID APPEARED THOROUGH AND PROFESSIONAL, AND THE MECHANIC WAS VERY NICE. HOWEVER, HE DID NOT ACCEPT THE COUPON FROM THIS SITE SINCE THE COUPON SPECIFIES ''SERVICE'', NOT MAINTENANCE, WHICH WAS DISAPPOINTING.

THE REPAIR REQUIRED 2 VISITS BECAUSE THE PROBLEM WITH THE PUMP WAS NOT KNOWN UNTIL LATE IN THE FIRST VISIT. METRO CALLED FOR THE FIRST VISIT TO SAY THEY WERE RUNNING A LITTLE LATE. THE SECOND VISIT THEY SHOWED UP 5 MINUTES EARLY! I ALSO ASKED THE TECHNICIAN TO READ MY HOME INSPECTION REPORT, WHICH IDENTIFIED A POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. HE DIDN'T SEEM VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND INSTEAD HE GAVE MY TWO AIR CONDITIONERS A TUNE-UP, WHICH I DIDN'T ASK FOR. SINCE IT WAS OCTOBER, I TOLD HIM THAT I WOULDN'T BE USING THE AIR CONDITIONING MUCH LONGER, AND ASKED IF I NEEDED TO DO ANYTHING ELSE IN THE SPRING/SUMMER. HE SUGGESTED THAT I HAVE SOMEONE COME BACK TO CHECK THE PRESSURES WHEN IT'S MORE HUMID, SO THAT WILL REQUIRE ANOTHER SERVICE CALL. ALSO, METRO HAS A COUPON IN THE ANGIE'S LIST NEWSLETTER THAT ADVERTISES 10% OFF ON A SERVICE CALL. HIS MEN CAME TO WORK ON TIME AND WERE VERY CHEERFUL, POLITE, AND WILLING TO LET ME WATCH AS THEY WORKED. THEY WERE ALSO KIND TO BE MINDFUL OF NOT LETTING THE INDOOR CATS OUTDOORS!
Description of Work: MY 27 -30 YEAR OLD FURNACE WAS REPLACED WITH A 95% EFFICIENCY CARRIER FURNACE. THE OLD FURNACE WAS REMOVED, AND THE EXHAUST/AIR INTAKE PIPE WAS INSTALLED IN THE SIDE WALL OF THE HOUSE. THE MEN HAD TO DRILL THROUGH APPROX. 7 INCHES OF WOOD BEFORE THEY GOT TO THE OUTER BRICK. THEY CLEANED UP AFTER THEMSELVES IN A MANNER THAT WAS, IF NOT PERFECT, CERTAINLY ACCEPTABLE.

I HAD TO WAIT SEVERAL WEEKS FOR AN APPOINTMENT FOR MY FURNACE CLEANING, THEN THE TECHNICIAN ARRIVED LATE FOR THE APPOINTMENT. AFTER ''INSPECTING'' THE FURNACE FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES, HE TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE FURNACE & IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. HE DID NOT PERFORM THE CLEANING WORK BECAUSE HE SAID IT WOULD NOT BE NEEDED BECAUSE WE NEEDED A NEW FURNACE. HE QUOTED ME SOME VERY EXPENSIVE FURNACES. AFTER HEARING THESE PRICES, I GOT SOMEONE ELSE TO COME OUT THAT DAY AND THAT PERSON CLEANED MY FURNACE & TOLD ME MY FURNACE WAS PERFECTLY SAFE & I WOULD NOT NEED A NEW FURNACE AT THE TIME.

I HAD QUITE A NUMBER OF INSTALLERS COME TO GIVE ESTIMATES AND SUGGEST DUCTWORK ROUTING. BILL KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING, FIGURED OUT A VERY LOW IMPACT WAY TO ROUTE THE DUCTS, AND GAVE A VERY FAIR ESTIMATE. SYSTEM WAS INSTALLED IN THE SPRING AND WORKED FLAWLESSLY (AND INEXPENSIVELY) OVER THE SUMMER. WHEN IT'S TIME FOR THE FURNACE TO BE REPLACED (ANOTHER FEW YEARS, HOPEFULLY) I'LL BE GIVING THEM A CALL.

TOM WESSNER, IS THE SON OF THE ORIGINAL OWNER. HE IS KNOWLEDGEABLE AND HELPFUL. HE PROVIDED A LOT OF INFORMATION TO HELP IN MAKING OUR DECISION. HE SAW TO IT THAT OUR FURNACE WAS INSTALLED QUICKLY AS THE WEATHER WAS GETTING COLDER. HE OVERSAW THE WORK CREW. THE WORKERS ARRIVED ON TIME AND WERE MOST PROFESSIONAL. THEY DID AN EXPERT INSTALLATION JOB AND CLEANED UP OUR BASEMENT BEFORE LEAVING EACH DAY, AND ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY WERE DONE.
