Metro Heating & Cooling is a family owned and operated company. We have been serving the Pittsburgh and surrounding areas since 1957, when William “W.C.” Wessner Sr founded the company. We are now on our 3rd generation.
The company has maintained key staff, and thanks to our installers and service technicians, some of whom have been with us for over 20 years, keeping the quality and reputation of our work and company intact.
We have been a top provider on Angie’s List since 2005 and one of the top Carrier dealers in the Pittsburgh area.
The Wessner’s are active in Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) and they have all served as president of that group.
After several conversations with the tech and my mentioning Angie s List numerous times they finally put in the correct furnace. They did box in the flex duct work in the bedroom, but did not finish it. After 4 days of hell, they told me to call the office to give them my payment. I called to speak to the owner to discuss my dissatisfaction. I have left 3 messages and have yet to get a returned call. The work was not completed, my duct work does not work. They ripped my oriental rug. I decided to I had two seperate companies come out with two different reports to confirm the above. I do have a report and will be providing it to Angie s List. Some additional things in their report that was wrong is: the return is completely out of "s Slip, Flex duct has too many turns including 1-180. No takeoffs used on supply. Exhaust pipe is pitched in the wrong direction. Straps are too tight on the flex pipe. Pipe is also pinched behind water lines. Shrader caps left off service valves.
Description of Work: I had a furnace, ac and duct work done. When Metro came to my house they said it would only take a day. The first day they did not finish and needed to come back. That evening I was looking at the new furnace they installed and thought it looked odd. It was not the unit I was told I would be getting. I decided check the serial # of the furnace on the computer. They put a much cheaper unit in then I was paying for and agreed upon. On the second day they began the duct work. I was suppose to have duct work ran thru a closet on the first floor to the second floor. I did not see how that would happen, so I asked the sales rep to come back to my property to verify the location. He ensured me it would go thru the closet. I told him I did not want the AC if the duct work did not work properly. When the Tech started the duct work he said he could not go thru the closet and it would have to go in the corner of the bedroom. The duct work does not work in the kitchen & barely upstairs.

THE MEMBER ACCEPTED THE PROPOSAL THAT LISTED THE FURNACE TO BE INSTALLED AS A BASE SERIES FURNACE. SHE LATER CALLED AND REQUESTED THE 2 STAGE FURNACE. WHEN ORDERING THE FURNACE, WE ORDERED OFF THE ORIGINAL PROPOSAL. AFTER REMEMBERING THE PHONE DISCUSSION WE REPLACED THE BASE SERIES FURNACE WITH A 2 STAGE FURNACE. THERE IS NOT HEAT RUN TO THE SECOND BEDROOM. THE CLOSET ACCESS WOULD NOT WORK. WE OFFERED TO BUILD A BULK HEAD AT NO COST TO HER. THIS IS A $400 TO $600 VALUE. THE MEMBER GAVE US THE GO AHEAD TO DO THIS. THE INSTALLATION IS NOT COMPLETED AND THE MEMBER WILL NOT LET US BACK INTO THE HOUSE. THE MEMBER'S DOG HAS EATEN THE BEDROOM DOOR, THE 1ST 6", PLUS OTHER DAMAGE TO THE HOUSE. WE DID NOT DAMAGE HER CARPET. WE ARE WILLING TO FINISH THE JOB TO THE MEMBER'S SATISFACTION AND KEEP OUT "A" RATING WITH ANGIE'S LIST. THOMAS A. WESSNER, PRESIDENT.

They did a good job with the installation -- everything about the installation looks professional and neat, and works well. Everyone we had contact with at Metro was very professional, always returning our calls quickly and arriving at our house exactly when promised. Their price was a little higher than some other quotes we had, but from beginning, I was confident that they would do a very high-quality job with better materials (compressor & vents specifically) than other companies we considered. I was particularly impressed with the knowledge & experience of Bill Wessner, the representative that gave us the quite and supervisor.
Description of Work: Fitted our 1920's house with central forced air - a Carrier 13 SEER, 24,000 Btu (2-ton) system with an Aprilaire media air cleaner. They installed 7 ceiling vents total on the 1st and 2nd floors. They were able to run ducts through our existing closets on the 2nd floor to the ceiling on the first floor. The entire job was finished within 2 1/2 days.

I contacted three specialists to provide a quote. I gave each a brief that I wanted a quiet, unobtrusive system and let them tell me what I needed. Metro Heating confirmed my needs, gave an overview of what would be involved in the installation process and explained how A/C's work. Metro also gave options of the type of solutions available, with pros and cons, and gave options of providers (Carrier & Rudd). Bill Wessner sent the detailed proposal on time. The price was competitive, but the reason I chose Metro was that they fully explained who, what, where, when, why and how the system would operate once complete. They gave the complete picture, warts and all. Bill came to the project kick off and introduced me to Simon and Brian. Both men inspired confidence and worked professionally. They were punctual, courteous and left my home they way the found it each day. They confirmed that the project would be completed in three days and they completed as stated.
Description of Work: Metro supplied and installed a central air conditioning system for the 3rd floor of our home. The air handler was installed in the attic with an insulated galvanized steel main duct and flexible insulated branch supply ducts. The registers are square corner & 3 way configuration, were installed in the corner of the rooms and spread air out across the ceiling. The return air and the thermostat are located in the hall, the return grill is hinged for access to the ceiling. They installed a factory condensate drain to the exterior and one electronic safety switch installed in a condensate drain pan under the air handler. The outdoor unit was installed on a pad and connected with 220 volt wiring from existing sources. Metro installed a Carrier 24APA324, 13 SEER, 24,000 Btu. unit with "Puron R410A" refrigeration. Indoor and outdoor units are very quiet.

They began the job at the scheduled date and time and completed it ahead of schedule. The team was courteous, professional and hard working. They are extremely clean and never left the house in a mess. They had a difficult installation but they did an excellent job in minimizing the cosmetic impact on the interior and exterior of the house. We feel we received an excellent system at a lower price than we had been quoted by another company. In closing, I would highly recommend this company for any heating or air conditioning installation. They're the best!

Perfectly. Came right out for estimate (called ahead, I was late-- they readjusted for me), said they could do the work a few days later. Showed up on appointed day (didn't call ahead), and just got to work. Noticed an underrated circuit and quoted an estimate for repair, which I declined (fairly expensive for simple work I can do myself). Finished up quickly, cleaned up after themselves, and sent me a bill so I could pay by CC later.

Metro performed the work efficiently and the quality of the company's products is first rate. We did experience a couple of glitches. They forgot to put a thermostat on the work order and had to return several days later to install it. There was a scheduling problem for that installation which was rectified at our demand. Six days later, they had to return to replace a new defective condensate removal pump. Although they performed the work efficiently, we found the attitude of a couple of employees less than courteous. Overall, however, Metro is a fine company even if a couple of employees need a course in customer relations.
Description of Work: They installed a new electric furnace and a 15 seer heat pump as well as a high efficiency air cleaner and a return air vent in my den.

Initially I was suspicious of anyone telling me that I needed a new furnace. I had the service man show me what he thought was in disrepair, and I asked him questions that I knew the answers to to see if he was telling me the truth, he seemed to be. He was at my house for about one hour, answering questions and examining the furnace. He said I could turn the furnace back on after he left, at my own risk (which I did). After thinking about it overnight, I called to get the new furnace installed, which they were able to do the next business day. Two other workman arrived on-time, were polite, answered more of my questions, and fixed a loose board in a wooden platform near the furnace (which was nice). They replaced the existing 7 foot duct/vent pipe with a rigid steel version (old one was more like crinkled aluminum foil) that they attached to a brick wall and they sealed up the hole around the vent. They cleaned up, were friendly towards my dog and total job took 6 hours.
Description of Work: I initially scheduled a furnace cleaning and check-up, plus I wanted my Space Guard media air filter changed. The serviceman inspected my forced air furnace, said that the heat exchanger was in disrepair and was likely leaking carbon monoxide. Because of this, he turned my furnace off and said I needed to either replace the heat exchanger or buy a new furnace. The heat exchanger was still under warranty from the previous owner, however the price for installation was $875. A new Carrier base model furnace of the same efficiency (80%) would be $2,200 installed, minus the $79 I already paid for the furnace cleaning (so $2,121 plus $55 to replace air filter). Because the existing furnace was nearly 10 years and was a lesser brand (Goodman) than Carrier, I chose to get the new furnace (after thinking about it overnight). I called on a Friday to schedule and they installed the new furnace on Monday. Nobody asked me about extended warranties or service contracts, which I appreciated.

I sought multiple estimates about putting HVAC in my new home. No one really knew what they were doing until Bill Wessner from Metro came out. This guy is a genius and really knew what he was talking about. We spent a lot of time coming up with the perfect plan to cool this house that would suite our needs. We have a large kitchen with many appliances and do a lot of entertaining. The estimate came out to about $32,000 and they will be providing financing. Unfortunately, I just don't have the resources to install it now. But as soon as I recover financially from the rest of the remodel I will definitely go with Bill Wessner.

Job 1: I have used them a couple of times before for various issues. They were quick about making the changes in the duct work. The service men are always professional, knowledgeable, and polite. I recommend their services.

The technician and the manager were polite and explained everything. They came on time and worked efficiently. The furnace is working fine now and no Carbon Monoxide is being release into the house (we got a Carbon Monoxide alarm.) The part had cracks the width of fine hairs, and it would have gotten worse, so it needed to be changed. What we don't understand is the cost of labor, since it took the experienced technician only two hours of work, it came down to being $350 per hour. Unfortunately, the other top company in Angie's List also quoted us $600-$800 for the same job.
Description of Work: They came for the annual check up ($79) of the furnace system, and found cracks in the heat exchanger. Since it releases Carbon Monoxide into the house, we had to turn it off for a week until the part could be replaced. Luckily they were able to order the part and install it a week later. Cost of ordering the part and installing it; $700.

I had an excellent experience with this company. They were polite and punctual. Every time they came into the main house, they took off their shoes. They cleaned up the basement after they left to make it better than it was before they started. It took several times for them to tweak the furnace before it was working at peak performance. Every time I called them with an issue, they responded very quickly.

I called Metro at 6pm on July 31 to schedule the repair. The man who took my call told me that he would call me at 7:30 the next morning with a repair time. I still had not heard from Metro by 8:00. I needed to know a repair time so I knew whether I was going to be able to go to work or have to take the day off. When I called to make sure I wasn't forgotten, the gentleman was rather gruff but told me someone would be at my home by 9:30. Since I had to repeat everything I had told Metro the previous night, I''m not sure that my repair request wasn't lost. The repairman who was dispatched to my home was on time and very polite.

I called Metro about our problem and they assigned a technician to us. He promptly called from the road and asked about our problem. As this was the July 4th holiday week he asked if our problem was severe and we told him ''no''. We then promptly scheduled for three days out. He called the day before and said he would be at the house between 11 and 1. He showed up at 11:15. The A/C unit is ancient and is corroding on the inside, however, we told him we planned on major house reconstruction next year and preferred not to buy a new A/C unit now. He got the unit up and running and never tried to sell us a new one. He was straightforward and honest. He easily accepted our Angie's coupon.
