Description of Work: They replaced a nut to reseal a gas leak. They didn't have the little nut on the truck so the plumber left for 30 minutes to go get the size he needed. I felt that was a waste of time, and wasn't sure I believed he didn't have the variety of things he needed on his truck He knew ahead of time that he would need this item since I described the problem on the phone before he came. The estimate was for a charge of $85 and the gas company plumber told me it was a simple job that should take 15 minutes to fix. So I felt overcharged. Once he had the correct nut, he fixed it in 5 minutes.

Description of Work: We had our sewer relined by Mike McVay and his crew. They did a very good job. It was definitely a more economical way to go than to have the entire length (27 feet) dug up. He was very prompt and an excellent worker. He went above and beyond. I would recommend him and will use him in the future.

Description of Work: Gentleman came and fixed a sewer pipe from my upstairs going down through the wall to the basement. I has been a good while ago so I don't remember the cost or the date but I do remember that he was on time, polite and did a good job. (He only tore out as much of the wall as was necessary.)

Description of Work: Called on three separate occasions to request service for a moderate leak that was producing mold. Was informed of backlog, but assured that someone would call to address my concern. On the third call I was told someone would be available to come out the next day, and would call that evening to schedule the appointment. I never received a returned call.

Description of Work: Mike relined our sewer pipes using perma-liner; as well as replaced some pipes in the basement floor. He was very thorough and detail oriented, while keeping the digging in our driveway and basement to a minimum. His crew also did a great job replacing the concrete in the floor. He provided us with a dvd of the camera'd pipe at the end of the job. We would definitely use him again.

Description of Work: We had McVay out twice. The first time was to replace valves. The second time was to install a second flow meter. The plumber showed up when he said he would to give an estimate. Accommodated my schedule for the start and completion of the job. And returned promptly to address a small problem I found after they left (an outside bib not affixed to the wall was slightly rotated when the valve was replaced). The performance was excellent on the first job so we had them back for a second. It was also completed on time at cost in a professional manner.

McVay Plumbing answered my call on Sunday afternoon and was willing to come out if I considered the job to be an emergency, it wasn't. We made arrangement for them to call me at the office a half hour prior to there arrival. He was waiting for me when I arrived home. Dan went directly to work and determined that I needed a new faucet. Had all the materials on hand and installed a new faucet in less then an hour. He took the time to explain the problem to me and when the work was completed he reviewed what he had done. He also took the time to review the bill with me and asked if I had any questions. This was my first time using McVay Plumbing and I would call them again. Dan does excellent work and is one of the best plumbers I ever had working on my home.

+ -1 moreGreat. When I called to request that they come out, the person on the phone said that I needed to wait for Mike if I wanted them to run the camera in the pipe. Mike called back the same day to schedule an appointment and also said that he was the only one available to run the camera. So I thought I might have to wait a while for his schedule to open up, but then he said he could be here the next day. I've used McVay Plumbing before, and they've always been this prompt. Plus, they again suggested a creative solution to a problem that would otherwise have been difficult and expensive to fix. Mike is like a Ph.D in plumbing.
Description of Work: My sewer line was backed up, and sewage was coming up into my basement. McVay Plumbing snaked out the sewer line to get it flowing again and used a camera to inspect the line all the way out to the street. They found two places where tree roots were blocking the pipe. Because of the topography of my yard they recommended that I not have them dig up the roots and fix the pipe. In the long run, it would be cheaper to have them clean it out once a year. They might not even be able to get equipment to where the damage is. On top of that, though, they recommended a product that can break down the roots in the pipe itself. So I may be able to keep the pipes open myself.

+ -1 moreMike McVay was courteous and professional throughout the whole process. He gave me a detailed written estimate on the spot. He had to drive his excavator across my neighbor's property to get to mine, and made an extra visit beforehand to talk to my neighbor and show him the planned route. He showed up promptly on the scheduled day with one helper and got the job done in good order. He's very experienced with this type of work. It's nice to deal with the business owner from start to finish.
Description of Work: Excavated steep slope behind house to 4 foot depth and replaced about 35 feet of 4" terra cotta sewer line with PVC line. Installed cleanouts at each end. Filled in excavation and spread grass seed & mulch.

+ -1 moreTHIS IS DEFINITELY THE SHARPEST CONTRACTOR I'VE EVER ENCOUNTERED. NOT ONLY DID HE COME UP WITH A CLEVER WAY TO INSTALL THE PIPE, HE EVEN HELPED ME GET WATER SERVICE BACK WHILE I WAS WAITING FOR HIM TO COME DO THE REPAIRS. ALL THE OTHER ESTIMATES I GOT WERE WAY MORE EXPENSIVE, FROM $5000 TO $8000, BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE WAS GOING TO EXCAVATE THE ENTIRE HILL IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE AND THEN HAVE TO PUT IT BACK. MIKE FIGURED OUT THAT YOU COULD JUST DRILL THROUGH THE HILL TO THE WALL IN THE BASEMENT. MUCH EASIER AND LESS DESTRUCTIVE. HE WASN'T GOING TO BE ABLE TO DO THE WORK FOR TWO WEEKS, THOUGH. BUT HE CAME UP WITH A WAY FOR ME TO HAVE RUNNING WATER WHILE I WAS WAITING. IT'S A CLEVER IDEA THAT I WON'T GIVE AWAY HERE. NONE OF THE OTHER CONTRACTORS EVEN CONSIDERED A WAY TO REDUCE MY INCONVENIENCE WHILE I WAS WAITING FOR THE WORK TO BE COMPLETED. YOU SHOULD USE MCVAY PLUMBING!
Description of Work: THEY INSTALLED A NEW WATER SERVICE LINE WHEN MINE BROKE. THIS INCLUDED CORE DRILLING THROUGH A HILL TO THE WALL IN THE BASEMENT, INSTALLING 37' OF PIPE, A NEW METER, AN EXPANSION TANK AND REPLACING THE SIDEWALK BLOCK THAT HAD TO BE REMOVED TO DO THE WORK.
