We had replaced all the pipes underneath and snaked but it was still leaking. He called me back and we briefly discussed the issue. He suggested it was a clog further down and did not think we needed him to clear it. We had to buy a much longer snake to resolve the issue, but it worked.

I was very pleased with their service. I received an immediate appointment for the owner to assess and quote the work. He was very professional and very helpful about my options - truthful. The crew performed the work within a week of my receiving a formal quote. They did a great job and they were also very professional. I feel like I got great service for the price.

Matt was very nice to my husband and I. He was prompt and well priced. I had three other estimates. I called for rusty water. At first they assumed it was the rusted pipe. This was replaced. The water remained brown. They called my home owner insurance and this was nearly covered. Then they decided to replace the hot water tank which was well over due. This fixed the problem. I asked them to call the home owner because they installed an expansion tank and something else small which was apparently neccessary. I called matt as well as emailed him. He did not call my home owners. I called the home owners and they said they needed to speak with him to cover the extra tank which he said was for code. Therefore, I was left with just over 300 dollars out of pocket which likely would hvae been covered with a little effort on his part. He did do great service otherwise because the water is hot and clean. However, I could have used the extra few bucks as a new home owner.

We called and spoke with the home warranty company about the water heater which was cover. We called and left a message at the extension that was provided and never got a returned called. We did everything the home owner asked us too. The responsive issue is with the Home Warranty company. They had both Matt's cell and office number.

Mertz was professional and courteous in the scheduling of the appointment with a more than acceptable 2 hour window and the serviceman arrived right at the beginning of that window. The running toilet issue was resolved quickly; not so much the bowl water level. Serviceman was able to get a little more water into the bowl but not the same amount as in 2 other identical toilets in home. He ultimately called Kohler's help line and it was determined that the water level is within manufacturer's tolerances. The bathroom sink pop-up replacement went smoothly. Dripping kitchen faucet will be replaced by manufacturer (Moen) under warranty. But, again, serviceman took the initiative to call the manufacturer. Of course, when the replacement arrives I'll have to have another service call to install it. Suggestion to first-time-plumber-users: ask whether charges will be hourly or by the task and find out what the hourly rates are in your area.

- Two hours late - When trap was clogged and they could not get camera down into the pipe, they recommended replacing the trap for $2500, sellers were shocked! We had A1 sewer inspect it for $300 they snaked out the drain and the pipes looked great. Note A1 does not install drains and they have no conflict of interest like Matt Mertz.

We were hired to inspect the drain, not clean it. The problem is we are hired by the potential buyers not the sellers. Often times, other companies come in after us to clear the line and re inspect. We are not allowed to snake the line in home unless ask by the owner of the home and not the potential buyer. The customer asked for a quote to replace the line so we provided one. The only conflict of interest is between the buyers and sellers. The only thing wrong in this situation is that we ran behind and the customer was made aware of this in advance. We do apologize for running late. With plumbing its hard to keep the exact schedule and some jobs take longer that expected.

The plumber showed up on time but basically did no work. All he did was check the pipes inside the house and then declare that his camera wouldn't make it out to the street; this took him about 15 minutes. He then offered to perform a $3000 service just to allow him to properly perform the inspection. He then charged us full price for the inspection despite the fact that no inspection had actually been performed. Moreover, we learned from the sellers that the individual in question had broken some objects in their home. When they first confronted him about this, he attempted to blame it on another inspector who was in the house at the same time. Between that and the lack of service, we don't plan on using this company again.
Description of Work: We contacted them to perform an inspection as a part of the home buying process. We expected him to check the pipes between the house and the street to verify that they were clear.

Response from Matt Mertz Plumbing Trenchless Sewer Repair Expert
We were hired to do a camera inspection of the sewer to see the condition so that the buyers may be aware. We do charge for the inspection if we can or can not get though and give a written report. As our plumber did take the lid off, he did put it back on to its original state. Our men know that if the lid does not go on property, as the age of the sewer line may cause it to be brittle, that they are to replace the lid and inform the customer of the issue. The home inspector was in fact there removing the lid also. Unfortunately, we ca not please everyone, and this person also seemed to be unhappy due to the issues that we found and that it will need to be resolved. The inspection was done to the best of its ability and the report was generated with an estimate to repair the sewer system. This estimate was given so they can use it as negotiation in home buying agreement. We do these type of inspection weekly and have never encountered an issue. We were not the only one examining the sewer lines in the home that day. It is a shame we got blamed for doing our job to the best of its ability. If we would ever damage anything, we would repair it. END OF STORY.

Hiring a plumber is like going to a dentist. People fear it. But you can tell by the awards that these guys win that they are the real deal. Getting the appointment was easy and the plumber came and and exchanged an old garbage disposal. He first gave us the option of buying a good one or the best one, and he didn't force the best one on us. We did take the best one, however, and he put it in and it's so much better than the old one. He also unclogged a sink in the master bedroom for no extra charge. He even told us how to do it ourselves next time so that we won't have to spend the money to get them to do it. How many plumbers do you know who would do that? Highly recommended.

This plumber saved me from a con-artist plumber! The first job was actually given a 10% discount because they had to push the appointment back a day. That was very pleasing. They were really nice. The first job took about a week or less. They cleaned up and they were respectful and also kept communication with me. My house is over a hundred years old and the bathroom is original with the original detail in the walls. I was so impressed that Mertz was able to save that and keep it intact. He wasn't the cheapest but it was well worth the price. The bathroom sink that backed up was supposed to be under warranty with the home but the man that came out with that warranty wanted to make it more difficult than it needed to be and way more costly. I called out Mertz to fix the drain since he did such a fabulous job on the first project. They found that it was more extensive than just a clogged drain but for all the work they did, they didn't charge much at all (less than half!), not nearly as much as the original plumber that came out for it.
Description of Work: The first job he did was to turn a small bedroom into a laundry room. He also took fixed some problems with the tub in the main bathroom and he also stabilized the pedestal sink. The second job was to fix the bathroom sink that had backed up.

The serviceman arrived early. I advised him of the problem and he immediately started to work. First cleaning the inside pipes of the house then the outside sewer. He had to snake a long way into the sewer.. The snake cut through the roots. When he pulled out the snake, there were a bunch of roots attached to the head of the snake. He then ran a camera down the pipes in the basement and then through the outside sewer all the time explaining what I was seeing. He said that he wanted to make sure that the pipe was cleaned. I asked him about the pipe liner and he explained the process to me. I believe that I may get that process done so I won't have any problems with roots entering the terra cotta pipes and needing to have the sewer cleaned. The serviceman was very knowledgeable about his job, very professional, very courteous and attentive to what I was asking him. He cleaned up the area and was on his way. All was done within an hour. Very good worker. I now know why Matt Mertz plumbing is an award winner on Angie's list. He and his crew have earned it and I would absolutely call him again for plumbing needs.
Description of Work: I noticed that my sewer was starting to back up so I knew that it was going to flood the basement and I needed a plumber. I realized that I did not need the plumber that day but could wait until the next day for a plumber. They have have 24 hour service, which is great. So I decided to call on Sunday for an appointment on Monday. I got a early appointmen Monday. The woman who took my call was very personable and friendly. A pleasure to talk to.

In June of 2012, the sewer in our basement backed up several inches, resulting in a loss of most items in our basement, as well as a large storage cupboard. We had 4 different plumbers come out to give us an estimate and/or try and snake it out. Most were not willing to give us an honest up front estimate as to what it would take to repair, and they walked through our house with no shoe covers on, tracking raw sewage through the first floor of our house, as we have no basement door access. The 4th person actually recommended Matt Mertz to us because he said in honesty, it would save us money because Matt owned all of his own excavating equipment. We appreciated his honesty and called Matt immediately. Matt came out on a Friday evening and gave us 3 very honest and reasonable estimates. Least case scenario, worst case scenario, and the middle cost, depending on which repair would need done once they started digging. Before he even stepped foot in our house, he put on shoe covers on our front porch as my husband stood there and looked at him. We both sort of looked at each as if this was a foreign concept because the previous 4 plumbers hadn't bothered to do that. Right off the bat that made us feel good about what was about to happen. After going into our basement and assessing, we discussed with him what had transpired throughout the week with the previous 4 plumbers. He went out to the backyard and used monitoring equipment that was able to determine where the issue most likely was. We were impressed with his honesty and asked him for an estimate and how soon he could start the job. He initially stated that he would start the job on Monday because of weekend plans. To our surprise he called us back early Saturday morning and stated he would come out Sunday morning and start the job immediately. We were thrilled because of having the raw sewage in our basement for a week, we didn't want to wait a day longer. And he didn't add any surprise charges for starting the job on the weekend. He promptly showed up Sunday morning with excavating equipment and his team in tow. He and his workers were the most courteous, professional, honest and trustworthy company we have ever dealt with. He completed the job exactly when he said he would. He charged us exactly the middle amount price that he quoted us, which was to dig in the yard and re-line the sewer after repair. He knew before even digging that the problem was most likely roots that had permeated the old sewer line and were clogging it. He has all the up to date technology and equipment and was able to determine exactly where the pipe issue was in the yard before even digging. That saved us a lot of money because he knew exactly where to start digging. He also saved us a lot of money by re-lining the pipe with the perma-liner instead of telling us our entire pipe needed replaced and digging up the whole back yard. We really appreciated his honesty on that as another plumber previously told us he would have to dig up the whole yard out to the street and replace the whole pipe, before he even started digging. Matt was so very very honest as to what this would most likely entail and was able to do that because of his up-to-date technology and equipment. Our yard sits up on a hill with no easy access to bring his equipment in so he had to drive the back-ho up a very steep hill to access our yard. He didn't charge us any extra for the inconvenience of having to take apart our fence and the difficulty of getting the equipment into the yard to do the job he said he would do. After the sewer was re-lined, he installed a clean-out pipe in case there are future issues, which would save us even more money in the future, if necessary. We were relieved to know that our yard would most likely never have to be dug up again in the future. He also provided us with a DVD of video that he took of what our sewer looks like now with the perma-liner, all the way out to the street. It was pretty cool to view that DVD and know that we have reassurance that they did the job properly and honestly. After the job was completed, they backfilled the hole in the yard and put our fence back together and made sure everything was cleaned up before leaving the job. Matt was available at every moment to answer any questions we had and explain exactly what he was doing the whole time they were here. His professionalism and respect for us was amazing. He addressed us as sir and ma'am, which totally wasn't necessary but showed to us that he takes his job seriously and wanted to earn our respect for him, which we did, over and over. I honestly cannot say enough good things about Matt and his team. We were very impressed with all of them. I had no hesitation over handing him the check for the job because I knew he did it well and did it honestly. He did exactly what he said he would do, for the price he quoted us, in the timeframe he said he would and he did it very well. Excellent, upstanding young man who should be proud of his good reputation. We have since recommended him to anyone we could. We have also had them back to our house to do two other separate jobs for us which I will review in separate reviews.

The basement was backing up badly so Matt Mertz Plumbing was called. The plumber arrived early and was personable and professional. After assessing the situation, it was determined to be sludge in the main line. Prior to unclogging the line, no drainage could be heard from the outside trap. The main line was unclogged and the plumber confirmed that clear water flow could be heard from the trap after unclogging it. Everything was cleaned up and no issues have seen since.

Job went well from start to finish. Matt is very polite and patient and answered all my questions. Did a thorough job and left the area clean. For future plumbing issues, I will certainly call Matt again.
Description of Work: We did a total remodel and before we started demo, we discovered we had clay drain pipes under the cement floor in the basement. We wanted to know where they started and where they ended and wanted them replaced. The plumber who works for our GC did not have a camera that he could use to snake the drains to see the condition and location of the pipes. I checked Angies List to find a plumber and saw the numerous excellent ratings that Matt received and decided to call him. He snaked several drains with a video camera for a very reasonable rate and gave me an estimate to replace the clay drains with plastic. I would gladly have used him except my GC asked me to use his plumber so that the entire plumbing job would be completed by one company and I agreed.

We spoke with the tech about this job. He assured us while there were a few conversations it was with the office regarding scheduling. This tech has been employed with us for several years and we trust him completely. While we are concerned that the customer is disappointed, they also have to understand the tech has to go to there truck to take the removed parts out and to get the replacements that we fully stock on our truck. The customer was charged for time only that we did work. It's unfortunate that someone would give such a terrible rating with out ever expressing concerns to our office in which we would be more that happy to have made right with them.

Matt's group did a fantastic job. We had several quotes from other places and Matt was the only one who price matched and offered us extra reasons to go with them. They showed up on time and completed the work quicker than even anticipated. They were very nice and worked hard to make little to no disruption to our lives during the work. They replaced the pipes across the whole length of the house and replaced what they tore out. The cement was replaced and smoothed out. You can barely tell that the work was even done. They did a fantastic job and we will be calling them should we ever need more work done.

I had several plumbing issues going on and hired Matt Mertz Plumbing to make the repairs. Tom showed up and fixed the pipes under the bathroom sink, which was the damage caused by a previous plumber. He installed new pipe and flang and in the basement he put in new pipe under laundry tubs. Outside he had to sauter where the outside hose goes and then in the bathroom I had requested a new stopper be put in and when Tom started this job it ended up being a bigger job than thought to be. Underneath the tub was rotted out and they had to go buy new pipes and everything to completely replace that whole area. Tom even had to call another assistant to come help with a few pipes. I will say it turned into an all day job and part of evening but not one time did Tom seem frustrated or agitated, he was very calm and easy going. He went above and beyond and didnt not leave that job until it was completely finished. He did a beautiful job and took pride in his work and made sure quality was a large part of what he left behind. Just made sure the job was done RIGHT!

Great. Matt's crew is professional and responsive. Work was done on time and at the amount quoted. There were delays due to city inspection cancellations which were not Matt's fault. He and his staff kept me informed throughout. They came back on a Saturday to complete concrete work in my basement because of the delays in city inspection. This was above and beyond what I expected. I see Matt Mertz Plumbing vehicles all over the city. i'm not surprised that his business is growing so fast. The quality and professionalism of this business are all too rare these days.

Matt came to my house and gave me a fair estimate range. He set up the appointment for me. Two workers arrived right on time. They worked for several hours, and when it came time for me to install the surround, they left me the tools I needed to drill the perfect sized holes. They came back later that day, just when they said they would, and finished installing the hardware. They were neat and friendly, and I didn't have to cleanup anything. The best thing is the final bill was just under the lowest quoted amount that Matt had given me. I am very pleased and very relieved that I actually found a trustworthy plumber. I've heard such horror stories!

The plumber arrived early (he called ahead to let me know) and, after looking at our plumbing a few times, suggested pulling our toilet up to replace the seal as a possible solution for the sewer odor that kept permeating our main floor bathroom. He proposed this as a less expensive option than checking for and possibly repairing a cracked vent. He also took time to explain how our plumbing was set up and showed me what was what - very helpful. We decided to go ahead with the toilet seal repair, which he did quickly for a reasonable price and we've been odor-free for two weeks!
Description of Work: Identified source of sewer odor and repaired toilet seal.
