Mike is terrific on all counts. He gave me an estimate the day I called, arrived the day after I gave him the go ahead to measure, and installed the handrails less than a week after that. The handrails themselves are very high quality and extremely attractive. They were installed with care and skill and look great. In addition to grinding down and covering the metal stumps of the old damaged handrail with cement, Mike also ground down and covered several stumps where handrails had been removed years agoby the previous owner. And this at no extra charge. In short, we have a major improvement in curb appeal at a reasonable price with great customer service...and did I mention that Mike (and his assistant Micky) are really nice people, easy to talk to and to work with.

The overall experience with Mike, the owner of Helping Handrails, couldn't have been better. I phoned him to schedule an estimate for a wrought iron stair railing for the front of our house. He came to preview the job within a few days of our initial phone conversation. During that visit, he showed pictures of his work, and quoted me a price. I had one other company come to the house to give an estimate, but decided to go with Mike because he seemed honest, and reliable, and his price was EXTREMELY reasonable. I called Mike on a Tuesday to schedule installation, and the railing was installed by Thursday. Talk about fast service! And, the railing is absolutely perfect: simple design (no spindles), sturdy and handmade by Mike :)
Description of Work: Mike (and helper) installed a beautifully handcrafted, simple wrought iron stair railing in front of our house. Mike couldn't be easier to work with. He is very friendly and accommodating. I would HIGHLY recommend his services!

It was an ideal contractor experience. Responsiveness, lead time, speed and accuracy or work, and kind demeanor were all exemplary. Highly recommended! Forgive one oversight on my part - I can't remember what the actual price was. We got the work done last year. I believe it was between $600 and $1000.
Description of Work: They installed handrails into my new concrete steps and a guard rail on a retaining wall. They painted them black for me, and were kind enough to leave their paint can so I could paint some other rails that we decided to leave in-tact.

The owner gave us an estimate of the cost on the day that I called and installed the handrails in a week or less. We are very happy with the work he did and feel that the cost was reasonable.

The owner (Michael Evonich) responded to a phone inquiry by visiting us. He gave us a price estimate that seemed reasonable (within the range that I had guesstimated), and promised to do the work within a week or two. A few days later he came to measure the space. He then called to tell us when he would come to install the handrail. He gave a date and a two-hour time block. He came when promised, and installed the handrail. The price matched the estimate. I have one minor dissatisfaction: He applied decorative elements (S-shaped spirals) to the three posts. As a product designer (something which I had not told him), I would have appreciated having been shown a sketch of the design so that I might have influenced the placement of the decorative elements.
Description of Work: A wrought-iron handrail was designed and installed for the front steps leading from our driveway to the front walk. Based on measurements the company took a few days earlier, the handrail was fabricated on site. To install it they drilled holes in the concrete steps, and concreted the handrail assembly in place.

This was a good experence dealing with a gentleman.
Description of Work: Mike called me the following day after I called his company. He called to inform me that he didnt come this far north. That in order to keep his prices reasonable he only does close area`s to where he is located. I was happy that he got back to me so fast. Even though he couldnt do the work he was proffesional enough to return my call. Thats a good buisness man.

I had three estimates from companies selected for A ratings on Angie's List. The estimates ranged between $440 and $540 for the job. The company estimating $440 had a backlog of jobs and could not even give me an estimate of when he could do the job -- "before the snow flies" was all he could promise. This was not satisfactory for me, so we went with Helping Handrails who had estimated $500. Mike Evonich knew we were concerned about getting the job done promptly, so he made a special effort and had the rails fashioned and installed within a week. When he completed the work (installation took less than two hours) it was a handsome job. He told me it was a "lifetime guarantee" -- i.e., Mike's lifetime - as long as he is alive and able to do the fixing. What more could I ask? When he handed me a bill to be paid, I was surprised that it was for ten dollars less than he had quoted. He explained that he likes to give customers a break when he is able.
Description of Work: Two wrought-iron handrails fashioned and installed - one for the 5 steps from sidewalk to our front walk, and one for the 4 steps from front walk to our porch.

We left Mike a message and he replied promptly. He told us he would stop by Saturday morning at 9:00 to take a look at the site and give us a quote. He showed up at 8:00, which was a surprise, but to be fair, it was going to be a brutally hot day and it was a holiday weekend and he wanted to get an early start on some work around his house before the temperatures got too high. He talked through (in just the right amount of detail) what he thought he should do, showed us a sample of his iron work, and showed us some photos. We agreed to move forward, and he said he would return to install in 2 weeks or so. To our surprise, he called on Tuesday and said he could install the railing Wednesday morning before we went to work. Again, he arrived earlier than he said, but he made quick work of the installation and we were off to work on time. The railing looks great, the installation (which I thought would be challenging -- he had to drill into two flagstone steps) was clean, neat, and very secure, and he and his helper were very pleasant. We highly recommend Helping Handrails. It's too bad we don't need anymore railings!

It was our best service experience in 40 years of living in our 85 year old house. Mike is an expert metal worker and blacksmith who is genuinely concerned about how he can be helpful for people in need. He responded to us quickly in time of emergency when my wife suffered a broken leg. The work was well done and elegant. It was finished more quickly than we had any right to expect and installed with finesse -- without any mess. We had known we needed such railings in our house, but it was an emergency that necessitated our immediate order. Recommended by our physical therapist, Mike turned out to be a fascinating character and artisan. We like living with his rails.
Description of Work: Installed simple and tasteful hand rails on all stairways, in the bathroom, and on the front porch and steps. Mike designed and built the rails in his shop and installed them in our house after meticulous measurements and plans for secure attachment. They conformed to the general safety requirements for assistance as recommended for "aging in place" families.

Mike does everything right from start to finish. For example, he showed me a sample of his wrought iron railing and showed me pictures of work he had done. He measured the steps where I needed railing and suggested which side they should be on. He showed me where they would be attached into the steps. He explained he does not do fancy custom work, just sturdy but simple railing at a fair price. That is just what I wanted! He came back after two weeks and installed the railing with the help of his friendly assistant. He cleaned up when he was finished. He guarantees his work. He followed up with a phone call one week later to make sure everything was done to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: Three wrought iron handrails were installed on outside steps in the front and rear of my home. Mike and his assistant drilled into the concrete steps for a sturdier foundation and professional finish. Mike had come out two weeks earlier to measure my steps and then the handrails were handmade in his shop.

The project was completed in less than a week from proposal to installation. There was no charge for Mike's initial visit to my house. He suggested several alternative treatments for my consideration, and showed samples of the style of railing that he provides. I called to accept his proposal on a Monday, and he made the installation (and touched up the paint where installation had caused a nick or two) on Friday. He showed up at the agreed time with a helper, completed the job promptly, and cleaned up the dust from drilling holes in the brick. A nice job at a fair price.
Description of Work: Mike fabricated and installed three short handrails beside the 4 steps down from my kitchen door to the trash containers. Separate sections were needed because of a downspout on the wall next to the steps, and because the last step is around the corner from the others.
