Mike, the owner/installer is a great guy. He is punctual and knows his business. His price is very fair and reasonable probably because he offers only one type of railing. Customer has no choice of selection of railing. Mike will paint the railing any color you want but the style is the same. It is a very basic functional railing....which is fine if that is what you want. A complaint I have is that the railing does not feel like it was "finished". There are some rough spots/edges that Mike suggested I sand lightly if it is bothering me. I would have preferred that he sand it smoothly himself at his shop before painting it. It only took Mike and a helper 1 hour to install all four railings (which included a supporting post and drilling through a metal pole....that was very welcomed.

Mike was very professional and cordial from beginning to end. Was available the following day after I initially spoke with him to evaluate the job and provide a quote. Indicated that it would take up to 2 weeks to fabricate and install depending on weather but ended up taking just 7 days to complete. Even went the the extra mile to fill in some existing cracks on the stairs with the extra mortar compound used during the installation. Very pleased with the overall experience and wish there were more service providers who are like Mike.

Worked well--as planned and promised. I am a little surprised that filigree elements in the corners between the posts and the rail are decorative but do not share in holding the railing in position.

My son's house needed a new handrail in order to be eligible for a neighborhood facade grant. Since he lives out of town, I solicited bids for the project. The first bid we received was very high and the material was very unattractive. I found Helping Handrails on Angie's List. Michael met me when he said he would. He gave me a fair price for an attractive handrail. He personally fabricated the handrail and put the handrail in ahead of schedule. I was very pleased with the appearance and the whole process from bid to installation. I would highly recommend this company. I have already given his cards out to several people.

This guy was great. Came out, explained the rail to me, showed me an example of his rail. I didn't love one of the more ornamental pieces of the railing and he said he could just make the railing without it (which he did). He installed the railing while I was at work, then called to make sure I liked it saying he could remove it and start over if I didn't. He then told me the railing has a lifetime warranty - his lifetime. Really can't recommend him enough and I am very picky and was nervous about just calling a handrailing guy on craigslist. He does nice work and is a nice person.

We received several quotes from various vendors, and decided to go with Helping Handrails as their quote was competative and Mike the owner seemed like a very trustworthy contractor. Mike fabricated the railing in 2 weeks, and installed and the railing looks great. I would use Helping Handrails again, and would reccomend to friends and family.

Within days of taking tape measurements, Mike was here, on the job, drilling through concrete. Mike completed everything, in less than a week. He was, without a doubt, the cleanest, tradesman, I've ever had, in my home. He has made me safe, in my home, again; due to a crazy illness, I lost all balance, and needed to learn how to walk again. Mike wanted me to feel comfortable, again. He covered all bases, in that regard!!! Thank you, Mike! Veery well done!!!!! -
Description of Work: Mike made me feel SAFE, in my home again! Mike quickly, installed grip bars, in bathrooms, and by single steps, and a complete iron railing, to my basement. He installed a railing to my porch, three steps, where none had existed before! Mike also installed a railing along the side of my house---making me feel safe, to walk along the side of my home, again!

was a no show and no call rang
Description of Work: We contacted this company for an estimate on installing handrails on some new concrete steps. We made two appointments for Mike to visit. Mike cancelled the first one and rescheduled. Mike cancelled the second one and rescheduled. The third one was a no show and no call. I called them and cancelled saying we would go elsewhere. Mike then called saying he was here at 8:30am and we were not home so he called and got no answer. The appointment was for 9:30am but we were home and the phone never rang. He then says he was at a big yellow house and left a note on the garage door. My wife told him that is our neighbors house and he responded that he didn't have our address and that it was too far to go anyway. If they don't want the job just be up front about it, very dissappointing.

I thought I wrote a review of this a couple of years ago when the work was done, but Angie's list has been emailing me for the past few months to write a review. Michael Evonich came at my request to make an estimate on installing handrails on two short sets of steps from the sidewalk to our front porch. His estimate was good and we arranged for the job to be done and he came at the arranged time and installed the handrails as promised in good time and an excellent job. We were very pleased with every aspect of the job. It is now so long ago that I don't remember the date nor the cost. (It may well have been a lot more than the $200 I posted for this review).I only know that I was very pleased with the job and with the cost. I am wondering if the reason we are now being asked to review this job is because of the classification used in an earlier review. Neither "wrought iron" nor "fences" seems to accurately describe manufacture and installation of handrails at steps, but those are the two categories offored for Mike Evonich's services. Whatever the classification applicable, we were very pleased with Mike Evonich/Helping Handrail's services, would use him again for similar or related work, and would recommend him if someone were seeking those services.

Mike was wonderful. He came out and looked at the job and got back to me very promptly with an estimate, both cost-wise and installation-wise. He was true to his word both in price and the date of installation. Though I never had the pleasure of meeting Mike in person (all my contact was over the phone), my Mom found him to be a very professional and extremely polite man. We are very pleased with the work Mike did and my Mom is thrilled! I would recommend Mike to everyone I know. He is honest, does a great job, and is very pleasant to communicate with. It's so nice to have a pleasant experience when dealing with contractors. Though this was a small job, Mike treated us royally. Helping Handrails is a first-class company, owned by a first-class guy!!

Mike was great! My house is a bit confusing to find, but Mike kept calling and working it out to find it. When he finally did, the HONESTY floored me! He gave me a decent quote on replacing the railing but stated "i don't want to tell you how to spend your money, but you shouold replace the steps first." He basically told me to take my time and find someone to replace the steps in the Spring and not to get a good railing put in until I do. A railing right now on my curved stairs would be $995 - which is the BEST estimate I've gotten so far. However, if I wait until the spring and replace the steps first, without a curve in them, the railing would only cost me about $595. He then went on to suggest how to temporarily fix the problem for the winter and how much it should cost me. I plan to call Mike in the Spring. His honesty was rally a breath of fresh air. Yes, I would recommend him 10 times over just because of that.

Mike showed up on time for both our estimate appointment and on the day of the job. He and his associate drilled new holes in the concrete for posts and installed the railing that he had prefabricated in his shop. The railing was installed perfectly level and painted. Mike filled in the post holes with new concrete, and he even filled in the old post holes and did some patching of areas unrelated to his job. Finally, Mike came back in the Spring to touch up the paint job. The railing looked so good that some of my neighbors soon hired Helping Handrails themselves!

The work was done very quickly after the inspection of the property was done. The railings all match nicely and give a good look to the front of the house. The insertion of the railings into the new concrete porch looks profesional, with no cracking of the concrete. Initially we did not call him about the broken coat tree, but decided to ask about it when he came to the house. He said he could do the job, and far exceeded my expectations. The coat tree looks new, with the foot re-attached, the rusty areas cleaned, and the whole thing painted - and then he apologized for wanting to charge us $20.00! What he did was worth far more than that. I would recommend him in a heart beat.
Description of Work: Custom single wrought iron railings for 2 sets of concrete steps attached to our front porch. Also repaired a wrought iron coat tree that had one foot broken off. The railings match the railing he made for another set of steps up to the street done a couple of years ago.
