Description of Work: Dave installed a patio made of pavers. He had done a similar job for me although larger in size in which the paver area was used for parking a truck. That job was done four years ago and the paver area has held up well to heavy weight and looks very good. He took good care of the lawn area around the patio even using sod taken from the original patio area to complete a very professional job.

Dave and his crew did a fantastic job, and we are very pleased. They were very professional. I thought his price was fair based upon all of the work. He scheduled a time and date and confirmed ahead of time that they would be there. The work took about 4 days. The contract I received from him proposing the work was very detailed and explained exactly what they were going to do. The backyard looks terrific and we are now able to use the space under the deck. I would highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Downspouts on one side of my house were clogged and had been connected to the sanitary sewer, so I needed a drainage solution. Dave came over and discussed putting a drainage pit in the backyard. A ditch was excavated from the existing downspout away from the house, and a 6' x 5' x 5' hole was excavated for the drainage pit. Piping was run from the downspout to the drainage pit, and it was filled with gravel. All of the dirt was hauled away, and the entire backyard, which had been very uneven, was leveled. Topsoil was spread over the yard, along with grass seed and fertilizer. They also installed concrete patio slabs under my 2nd story deck in the back yard, and the slabs were cut as needed to fit around the deck posts.

Weare very satisfied.
Description of Work: Dave and his wonderful crew did a fantastic job removing old bricks from the sidewalk, cleaning them and relaying them. It was very trying for them, but they never gave up. They have many set backs, due to previous incorrect work, and Danve always kept us informed of what was happening. Although we had to change our game plan numerous times, they were all very professional through all of the frustrations they encountered. The new sidewalk looks fantastic. I am going to use them again soon to replace my front lawn. I would definitlly recommend this company to anyone. Thanks guys!

They had done work for my mother. I will be signing the contract with them. They were very professional. I would suggest that everyone talk to him and nobody else. His pricing was competitive and I had 2 prices and the prices were less than a $100 apart. He explained what he was going to do in detail and showed up on time when he said he would come here. In the past, the job site was left like it was his yard and not my mother’s yard and it was cleaned every night and no mess was left behind.

Dave and his crew arrived on Tuesday, July 19, in the morning. Started to work right away with the demolition of the rear wall. The demolition and the building of the new wall and steps took most of the seven days they were here. The front wall took about a day and a half. The work required a backhoe to demolish and deliver the new blocks and caps. The job was dirty and noisy. It requires patience and understanding from the neighbors. Dave was on site with his crew and they did a wonderful job. The work involved backfill, sand, gravel, and a correct drainage system, so the job was done right and not just quickly. Dave's attention to detail showed in the finished project. The rear wall and steps fit with the terrain and the carport. Many compliments were received on the finished walls both the front and rear. D C Contracting and Landscaping was one of five estimates we got for the project. His price was in the range we considered for the amount of work required and the Versa-Lok blocks. We would recommend him and would use him in the future.
Description of Work: We needed to replace 2 retaining walls, one in the rear of the house and the other in the front of the house. The rear wall had two separate parts with steps in the center. Left side was approximately 48" high and 12' 3" long. Right side was approximately 42" high and 10' 3" long. The steps were needed for access to the rear of the property. Also the wall was located under a carport. The front retaining wall was approximately 17" high and 14' long. Work was to include demolition of existing walls and removal of all demolished materials. The replacement walls were to be built with Versa-lok systems.

EXCELLENT!! ABOVE and BEYOND!I received 4 estimates from 4 different contractors to fix my drainage and flooding problem. I selected DC Contracting & Landscaping for these reasons combined: 1) Dave, the owner, was the only contractor that wanted to analyze and understand the root cause of the problem before he submitted a bid. He walked the path of the water flow, he talked with my neighbor and me to get a history on the water problem in our area. Dave even came back to my house a 2nd time to take a another look at the problem area before he came to the final solution and sent me his bid. 2) Dave's bid price was very fair. It was not the lowest or highest bid/estimate. It was right in the middle. Dave even worked with me on options to help me fit this project into my budget. 3) Dave is seasoned and confident in his work. 4) Dave is professional. I told him about an upsetting and poor experience I had with another Contractor for a different job and Dave never once talked badly about that Contractor. Instead, Dave educated me on the do's and don't within the industry. 5) Dave is very likeable. He doesn't "BS" and he's friendly. After I selected DC Contracting and signed the bid, Dave gave me an estimated project start time. Dave's time estimate was accurate and he started the project as expected. From start to finish, Dave answered all of my questions and even gave me advise and guidance on growing my new grass. Dave and his team did an excellent job reassembling my fence in both places. When I took a walk to my backyard and looked at the completed solution (the drainage swale), I was so impressed! I never imagined the quality or size of the drainage swale that Dave and team built, even though Dave did explain to me exactly what he was going to build! As soon as I take pictures, I will post them here. After the job was complete, Dave and his team did a thorough clean up. As a result, I asked Dave to bid on 2 more projects that I would like to get done! If Dave's new bids can fit into my budget, I WILL HIRE DAVE AGAIN WITHOUT EVEN GETTING ADDITIONAL BIDS!! THANK YOU DAVE!! YOU ARE THE CREME de la CREME IN THE WORLD OF CONTRACTING!!!!
Description of Work: DC Contracting & Landscaping built a grade-A solution for me to mitigate a backyard water flooding and drainage problem that was causing damage to my property. The owner, Dave, designed this solution, after careful analysis, and then worked closedly with me, offering several options to help me manage the budget for this project. The solution that Dave and his team built was to create a drainage swale and a berm on the lower side of the drainage swale, which increased the depth of the drainage swale. As a result, the downward water overflow (due to heavy rains and melting ice) coming from the higher land levels will now be funneled into the drainage swale, leading to a drainage pipe, thereby protecting my property from excessive flooding and water damage. Dave and his team had to disassemble 2 sections of my backyard fence to bring in their equipment, cut down brush as needed, excavate the land, build the drainage swale, reassemble my fence, and then restore affected areas with top soil, manure and grass seed. Additionally, Dave and his team were extremely professional, very friendly and considerate. At the very end of the job, they were sweeping my street and picking up tiny pieces of gravel! I was truly amazed and delighted with the level of service and quality provided by Dave and his team. I ADVISE AND SUGGEST that anyone needing a PROFESSIONAL for exterior projects to call DAVE at DC Contracting & Landscaping, request him to bid on your project, and HIRE HIM!! YOU WILL NOT BE BE SORRY AND YOU TOO WILL BE AMAZED AND DELIGHTED! Unfortunately, there are not too many Contractors left that have DAVE'S WORK EITHIC.

This experience has been nothing but great and I would highly recommend this company to anyone. The estimate appointment was scheduled quickly and I received the estimate promptly. I was told at the time of the estimate when to expect work to possibly start depending on weather and even with the terrible weather we had for a while the work started within a week or 2 of when he expected. The crew was always punctual and courteous. All aspects of this work has exceeded my expectations. The entire project took 4 days as I was told. I was out of town for the last day of the project and came home to see they had cleaned up after themselves extremely well as well as mulched some new beds that were created and leveled some existing pavers without it even being part of the bid. The yard is gorgeous now. Thanks Dave.
Description of Work: They leveled the yard, installed a french drail, installed a paver pathway and then sodded the yard.

Description of Work: I called to have some pretty labor intensive and creative work done in my back yard. They extended an existing retaining wall, incorporated some new steps and also built steps out of landscape timbers up the steep back yard. The work took about 5 days and they were punctual and detail oriented, even repairing a fence and removing some weeds on the alley side that I had not even asked them to do. I need to have some additional work done on another retaining wall and I plan to call them.

David was a thorough professional, calling, responding, and coming out to give an estimate, which was below the couple of others I gathered. The paver work looked great. The recent 3 1/2 inch rain no longer puddled at the bottom of our driveway, rather drained off through the swale to the garden. Further, David installed sod instead of grass seed which blended into the rest of the lawn perfectly.

Our contract with D.C. Contracting involved removing and hauling away grub-damaged sod, putting down grub-killer, spreading mushroom manure and top soil, and re-seeding. All this was done exactly to spec. (We subsequently watered like crazy and the grass came in quite well. We then over-seeded, and know we will need to do additional grub-killing in the future to maintain the new yard.) While David Czepiel and his colleague were at our house, I requested additional work, which was to lay pipes under the back yard that next year I hope to connect to two downspouts and channel into the storm sewer. This is purely a shot at helping my down-hill neighbor, who has a water problem, and who had hailed me during that day to ask if we could do anything that might help their situation. David helped me work out the neighbor's request, consider options on the fly, and estimate new costs. Though the additional work messed up David's work schedule -- it turned our job from a half-day to one and a half days -- he completed it with great professionalism and attention to detail. Plus he showed tact with my down-hill neighbor.
Description of Work: I recommend without reservation D.C. Contracting and Landscaping. Our desired work was to have our back yard sod torn out and the yard reseeded. We had bad grub damage that we had been unable to correct on our own. The job expanded to include laying drainage pipes.

Hire this guy. Fair price. Did great work. Started on the day and hour he said he?d start and finished on the day and hour he said he?d finish. Very good natured, courteous and professional (as is his crew), coordinated with other contractors, and took in stride a lot of confusion on our part about the scope of the project. Provided a well written contract (blessed by my brother the lawyer) and billed to the penny as estimated. Work site looked like The Maids had struck when they left every night. Very buttoned down and neat. On time, on budget, and with zero phone calls from my elderly mother, for whom the work was done. That is performance.
Description of Work: One phase of the project entailed removing about 45 feet of mortared stone retaining wall and replacing it with a Versalock wall. Second phase involved restoring a groundwater drainage system that had been compromised by another contractor who did work some years ago, never understanding that he was creating serious drainage issues. Dave fixed them.

Dave was phenomenal from start to finish. He was prompt and detailed with estimates, gave discounts for volume work, and began work exactly when he said he would. He showed up every day, rain or shine (it often rained and was cold), worked long hours to get the job done on time, and minimized the disturbance and cleaned up reliably and well. He took great care to build the wall's foundation properly, protected bushes by all means possible, and gave the job a nice finish. I couldn't imagine a better contractor.

First I would like to mention we got a couple estimates. DC was the highest but his bid was very detailed with each phase of the work he was going to perform. We were comfortable with his professionalism, knowledge, and detailed bid and decided to go with the highest instead of the lowest. We are very glad we did. The workers showed up on the date and time quoted. Workers showed up everyday on time. Fortunately, it was a great week with no rain. The patio, etc., was removed and disposed of. The sidewalk and steps were laid out and I commented I wanted the walkway not to be straight but rather meandering. That's exactly what was laid out. Beautiful walkway. A heavy Bobcat was used which the only access was through our side yard. It did leave ruts which Dave filled with topsoil and seeded. Wonderful experience. In fact, we have another project which we already informed Dave about.
Description of Work: We had a brick and railroad tie back patio, walkway, and steps we wanted removed. The bid included the removal of the aforementioned, replacing it with a sidewalk with a barbeque pad and steps. The remainder was to be filled with topsoil.

The job started on time and took approximately 5 days (the estimated time). The job was done in a very professional manner. An engineering transit was used in addition to a string line to ensure the retaining wall was level and straight and met all other manufacturer's specifications. I had selected this contractor because he was an "Authorized Versa-Lok and Omni-Stone Installer" and the final results of this job reflected this fact.
Description of Work: Excavate back yard at corner of driveway to install a U-shaped versa-lok retaining wall and water drainage system to prevent further soil erosion under the existing asphalt driveway. Installed 4" perforated pipe and 2-b drainage limestone behind wall and filled entire wall to top using limestone. Excavated to install two 4" Schedule 40 PVC pipes under retaining wall in order to extend driveway drainage system pipes past new retaining wall by at least 5 feet.

Asked for an estimate to rebuild a retaining wall that was beginning to look as if it might fall. Came at the time we agreed and a few days later mailed me several estimates for different ways of completing the job (e.g., use the existing bricks for the wall or build a new Versa-Lok wall). The job also involved removing some of the brick pavers from my patio, taking down a section of fence, and replacing it all when the wall was finished. Dave, the owner of the company, gave the estimates and completed the work with one helper. They did it for exact price on the estimate and finished in the time he said they would. When the job was completed, everything was put back in its place, even the patio furniture.

We had a concrete wall that was falling over and had a water problem. It was hard finding someone who would rebuild the wall and who would call you back. Dave called me back right away, came on time to to look the wall over. Then he sent me a detailed description of what he would do, including the price. I got about 3 estimates and he was the lowest. He was busy and he said he could not come for 3 weeks. He called in three weeks told me when he was going to come, came on time as promised, completed the job in 3 days. Excavated, rebuilt the wall installed a drainage pipe, filled with gravel, did not even know he was here. Left everything in perfect shape. Would highly recommend him.

I originally called David months ago to do the job and he couldn't do it, but he was extremely polite and bothered to call me back. That really impressed me. He said he would understand that the job may be gone, but he would be interested in looking at it when he was available. We called multiple other providers that wouldn't give us an estimate because they said the job was too small. His estimate was extremely detailed, so we could choose whatever part of the job we wanted to do. When they showed up, they were working within seconds of arriving. I've never seen anyone work so hard and efficiently. Even though I gave them a B for price, I can't compare his price to anyone else because nobody else would give me an estimate. It was just more than I was expecting to pay. Friends have told me though that the price was very fair.
Description of Work: He came and gave us an estimate for multiple jobs. We hired him to rip out and rebuild a retaining wall. The original wall was rail road ties and he replaced it with treated lumber. He also fixed a hole in a concrete wall.
