Arrived as scheduled. Did landscaping and put in a new sidewalk. Landscaping: recommended plantings. Suggested some of my favorites. I really, really love hydrangea and spirea. Got a couple each. Have a lot of trees but no sugar maples...got one now!. Can hardly wait until Spring to see these plantings develop. Folks, this is one great guy!!! My husband is a VP of a Boston construction co. He says he wished he had a few Daves to do some of his work. His rates might be a little higher than others, but remember, you get what you pay for. Sometimes you get more.

Dave and his crew did an excellent job, even with the challenge of the weather (some rain) and wet soil. Once they started work, they worked hard every day until the project was completed. They were very professional and meticulous in their work and in their clean up after. They were easy to communicate with and explained everything as the work progressed and care of the new lawn upon completion. We are very pleased with their work and the end result. The yard looks great. I would gladly recommend them to anyone. The only B rating was on responsiveness and was due to the fact that it took Dave a while to start our project. This was likely due to the wet weather in our area earlier in the spring/summer that delayed his other jobs.

From our first meeting with Dave, it was evident that he LISTENED to what we wanted. We interviewed and obtained bids from two other highly rated businesses but neither of those returned plans that incorporated the many pieces and parts of the result we envisioned. Dave's plan completely addressed our wishes, and included additional ideas to make the project even better. I was particularly impressed with Dave's conviction in the design and reinforcement of the retaining wall. After hearing his strategy for building the wall and providing proper drainage behind it, it was evident he was an experienced technician. I recall when we were discussing the project and pricing, he told me "even if you don't go with me, please make sure you have whoever puts that wall in..." and went on to explain the key structural elements the terrain dictated. I found that impressive, the guy just cares. Once we hired Dave and he came out to do some additional measurements and review of the job, we got a little "wishy washy" on him and made a few changes. He handled it beautifully, researching the alternate product we had considered to ensure he could figure out a way to make it work for our installation. He was patient and helpful, and treated us with an "all I want is you to be happy" attitude. As for the project itself, Dave, Bob and John showed up every day, on time, and worked hard all day long to keep the project on schedule. They were pleasant and easy to have around, they kept the mess to a minimum and left the job site as organized and tidy as possible given the scope of the 6 week project we asked of them. They were tolerant of our layperson questions, and kept us abreast of their progress throughout the project. As the owner, Dave is at the job EVERY DAY. His experienced hand touches every part of the job, and he is simply meticulous. Bob made me smile at every interaction; all three men acted as if being here to make our yard beautiful made them happy, too. We are beyond thrilled with the result, our new backyard is awesome and looks like something you might see in a magazine. Maybe better! I would not hesitate to call Dave if you are considering hardscaping of any kind; he is professional, skilled, and just a good, good guy. We are extremely satisfied with our decision to bring DC Contracting in to make our outdoor space gorgeous and so much more usable.

Dave was prompt in providing requested quote. Quote process was detailed and very professional. Job was started within the estimated timeframe. Dave and his team arrived when they said they would and worked 8+ days to complete the job. Dave was careful and conscientious leaving the worksite each day as neat, clean and organized as possible. Completed work was of high quality and the new wall looks great and was engineered to last.

He was very prompt and completed the job as soon as he said he would. He was very courteous and gave a thorough description of all of the work that he did. He was very clean and did a tidy job, working consistently and with great attention to detail. He is the best contractor I have ever used and he really knows his business. The intricacy in the design of the wall is very impressive.

Dave of D.C. Contracting &Landscaping promptly responded to our call concerning significant drainage issues in our backyard. While he was at our home examining the property for purposes of providing an estimate, he even took the time to watch a home video exhibiting the drainage issues experienced during a heavy rain. He provided a reasonable estimate and worked with us to make sure he provided a system that would have the best chance of resolving our drainage issues while still looking attractive. The French drain and other piping he installed not only appears to be working, but the walkway covering the French drain is beautiful and matches the existing landscaping and stonework in the backyard. We have received many compliments on the walkway. Dave was courteous, professional, and attentive throughout the entire process. He also told us to contact him with any questions, concerns, or problems, which we greatly appreciated.

Great job. Clear that Dave is a perfectionist. He did this with one assistant and could often hear him instructing the assistant how to do things just a bit better. We were happy with the first job he did, and his ability to envision and create great-looking hardscaping. Great sense of design. So when we couldn't quite understand precisely what he planned for this reconstruction, we said "whatever, we trust your judgment." And it turned out great. Now that both of the retaining walls -- that above the driveway, and that below it -- are done, we will be having him come back to do the driveway with pavers, too. It might seem a bit expensive for a retaining wall and steps,, but we asked for the more-expensive Versa-Lok Weathered Mosaic Allegheny Blend and we are happy we did, as the wall is beautiful, and stronger than if done with native stone. We also had LED lights installed on the steps.

I am beyond pleased with the work performed by Dave and his crew. His estimate was right on the money and when he had to rent a piece of equipment when he ran into rock, he provided an estimate of the additional cost which was fair and accurate. Dave and his crew were here for a week, and worked diligently the entire time The completed work is beautiful, and my once "swampy" back yard is now lush, green, and more importantly.....DRY!! Would hire again in a heartbeat!

Crew worked very hard and very efficiently, very professionally, very neat about everything, cleaned up after themselves. Results nice enough that neighbor asked them for a quote for replacing a wall that had been recently but poorly built. Not only did they do great work, their design for the wall is excellent, looks artistic. Will have them come back and redo the badly-deteriorated asphalt driveway with pavers. Would recommend them to anyone wanting this sort of work done. Stop by and take a look at the wall if you're in the neighborhood (55 Sigrid Drive, Carnegie)

We initially obtained quotes from the closest landscape companies. We then search Angie's List and found Dave because of the high rating he has on this site. Dave lived up to everything we expected after reading his reviews. He scheduled an appointment for the estimate. He sent a detailed written proposal and included a sketch indicating that he felt it would be best to add geo-grid in order to make the wall as strong as possible since it was going to go over 4 feet. Dave started the job when he said he would. Him and his crew were here on time every day and were courteous. Dave was on the job site the entire time. We were impressed by the level of detail they went through to make sure the foundation of the new wall was level and straight. After getting most of the wall up it became evident that another layer of stone would be the right route to take. Dave gave a very reasonable quote to add the extra layer of materials. They finished installing the wall and cleaned the entire work area. We could not have been happier with what they did.

DC Contracting did an excellent job. We have been very pleased with the results. Dave spent time with me to design a solution that would solve our water problems. He worked with me to research the dry well solution I had found and was flexible during the job as we selected plants and added a small retaining wall. He was also careful to work around my trees to avoid hitting roots as much as possible. Dave and his worker, Bob, were there promptly each day and worked steadily. They used schedule 40 pipe, as I requested, to take the water from the gutters to the street. They were careful to make sure that the slope was steep enough to take the water efficiently to the street. They connected all of the sections and allowed me to run some tests before covering the pipes. The drains worked fine and I've seen them working well in the rainstorms since the installation. In the back they dug a 4x6x5 pit for two dry well barrels. They added fabric around the barrels to allow them to drain but prevent dirt from getting in. They connected the gutter drain and added gravel and an overflow valve. Along the side of the house they created a swale to guide water away from the house and into the backyard. After the installation they planted some new bushes where old ones had to be removed and returned the rocks to our rock bed, sloped the dirt away from the house in the front (and added a small retaining wall to keep the higher dirt from going onto our porch). They changed the shape of the rock bed upon request when the first approach (which I had suggested) didn't work the way we wanted. They replaced a section of sidewalk that had to be removed during installation. Lastly, they covered everything with new topsoil, planted grass, and added mushroom manure. They even filled in some rough sections in the yard that weren't part of the original work. The grass has filled in nicely since they left (with steady watering). Overall, Dave did a professional job and I would trust him for work on our yard in the future. We highly recommend DC Contracting.

Dave Czepiel was at my home every day promptly. He and his help were professional, respectful, hard workers. They wasted no time and Dave was very receptive to some extra work I requested. His attention to detail was outstanding. He let me know their progress each step of the way. He uses quality products (which was important to me), and certainly did a quality job in every respect. When the work was completed, everything was cleaned up, leaving no mess of any kind. I can't imagine working with any better contractor. He exceeded all my expectations. I would recommend him to anyone, and use him again any time.

.After receiving 3 written proposals and estimates from different companies for the work to be done there was no question which company would contracted for the job. The proposal was very detailed, describing both the work to be done and the specific materials to be used. The owner of DC Contracting, Dave, spent an hour explaining the process when he came to the house before preparing the estimate. The crew stayed on the premises until the job was completed. Dave was professional, respectful and willing to discuss all aspects of the job. He kept us informed on a daily basis of the progress and what could be expected over the next day or two. When the job was finished the area was cleaned up and the driveway areas were pressure washed. Dave is very detail oriented, cuts no corners and demands perfection from himself and his crew. The job was expensive, but the work involved and the results warranted the cost. Dave went above and beyond what he promised to do and exceeded our expectations. We couldn't be more pleased with the end result and will be calling Dave soon to start the next project this summer.

Dave is a very competent and careful worker. No problems .

I had a Versa-Loc retaining wall that was installed incorrectly by Donofrio Landscaping 4 years ago. The wall was leaning badly and collapsing at the steps. (No pins-no base). D C Contracting & Landscaping LLC. (Dave - the owner) came out promptly and on-time to give me a free estimate. Dave's estimate was reasonable so I signed the contract and gave Dave a target date in October which worked with both of our schedules. Dave and his helper, Bob, came out on-time on the date promised and promptly started to tear down the exiting wall. Dave's team worked very neatly and efficiently. They removed the old wall and neatly stacked the wall stones on pallets that they brought with them. They had to temporarily remove a bush, and they took great care to remove it with a large-enough ball to facilitate re-planting. Dave and Bob used their machine and shovels to get the base dug out properly, (the way it should have been done the first time), and started to install the base. Dave and Bob were pain-staking in their preparation of the base. Dave was meticulous in how he reconstructed the wall, this time with the Versa-Loc pins. When he didn't see me watching, I periodically observed him constantly measuring and checking the level of each block. His attention to detail is commendable and he and his helper were well worth the price. Each day, the work area was left neat and clean. Each morning they arrived and got right to work. Dave was very patient and answered all of my questions before, during and after the job. He made sure that the french drain that was installed behind the wall actually worked this time and installed enough gravel behind the wall to make sure that it did. He even cut up a block to make an outlet for the french drain so that it would seamlessly blend into the wall. The wall looks great. I will definitely use D C Contracting and Landscaping LLC if I ever need wall and/or landscaping work performed again.

His work exceeded out expectations

Dave and his crew were very professional and we are pleased with the results. The work took about 3 weeks. They faced some unexpected chalenges and stayed on the top of it adjusting the work; They did respect the initial contract, and the only thing next is the concrete sealing that I have asked them to do. I would highly recommend this company, and plan to hire them again

Our experience with DC Contracting was positive. Dave was highly responsive and he and his crew did professional work. Though it took a bit longer than expected due to some blocks being out of stock, everything was completed efficiently. The bobcat being used cracked our (very old, very thin) driveway and Dave was kind enough to patch it up for us. I would definitely recommend this company.

I don't think it could possibly have gone better. Dave worked with us before we signed the contract to ensure we knew what we were getting and he was flexible in accommodating our ideas. We obtained two other quotes and his was in the middle but was fair and sensible. As indicated in previous Angie's list reviews, he was here every day, was personally involved in all the work and ensured it was done to a very high standard. This project took a long time, involeved heavy machinery (bobcats, dumptrucks , etc.) and so provided every opportunity for abrasion between homeowner and contractor. Dave was a pleasure to work with throughout because he was on time, and committed to doing a great job. We have had our new patio a month now and really love it, our shrubs are thriving and our lawn looks great. Thank you, Dave.

Dave responded quickly to my request for an estimate and was punctual on the date of the estimate.I had multiple estimates done and he was the only one who said he would have to remove my fence in order to take out the hedges because they do not do this work manually like all of the other landscapers. The fence I have is older and the chances of being able to remove it and replace it again without damage were not good. He also spent a lot of time trying to sell me a fancy retaining wall which was also completely unnecessary according to other landscapers. Overall he was not interested in a job that was just for practical purposes not to beautify anything and he cam across a bit abrasive. Sometimes personalities just don't mesh and they may not have been interested in the job which is why they brought up unnecessary pieces to the job.

They were very responsive, a good value, and did high quality work. I would use them again for future landscape/hardscape work.

DC Contracting and Landscaping is a terrific firm. Dave, the owner, worked on site every day of the project putting his personal stamp on every bit of work that is performed. The results were much better than we imagined. Dave is highly professional - coordinating every step of the project, arriving on time, and establishing high standards for hIs site cleanliness. I can't rate this firm highly enough! We had a problem with water leaking into our basement. We determined that a broken pipe under our patio was the cause of the water. We also determined that we would need an outdoor sump pump to handle water at the base of our outdoor stairwell. We used Angies List to select and contact 8 firms to provide estimates. Five firms came to our home to see the site problems and provide estimates. Three firms provided comprehensive bids that addressed all of our requirements Dave came to our home, performed the estimate, asked several good questions, and called to clarify some of our requirements before he submitted his estimate. We felt very comfortable that he fully understood the scope of the project. His price was in line with our expectations, but it was not the lowest estimate. We selected DC because Dave's bid was comprehensive and he committed to being on site every day. DC removed the existing patio and the outdoor stairs and installed the drain pipe. Although we experienced a great deal of rain during the excavation, Dave ensured the water could not leak into the house. He expertly installed the outdoor sump pump and ensured the electrical connection was sound. He installed a backup battery, connecting it to the sump pump. They designed and installed a stone stairway and a beautiful curved Unilock Stone patio. They also installed a curved sitting wall. This work requires precise stone cuts and a great deal of attention to detail as it is being installed. They were very patient and exacting in the installation of the stonework. Dave installed our new Broilmaster Natural Gas Grill into the patio. He assembled the grill and connected the gas line. Finally, they removed existing landscaping and installed a beautiful curved walkway that connects our front yard to the patio. We could not be more pleased with the quality of the work. DC Contracting & Landscaping was extremely responsive to our changes and provided reasonable estimates for the additional work when appropriate. Dave ensured each stone was installed perfectly. He personally provided oversight for every step of the process. He made sure that the landscaping was perfect before he left. Most importantly, because of his work, we now have a dry basement and a beautiful stone patio. If you have landscaping or "hardscaping" work that needs to be done, make sure you invite DC Contracting & Landscaping to provide you a bid.

They did a great job. I have used them in the past.

Came out and estimated the job and called me back with the estimate. It was the lowest of the ones I had received for the same work. Work scheduled for a couple of weeks out. They showed up as scheduled and worked steadily to complete the wall. They hauled away the old debris and thoroughly cleaned up the work area. It looks great.
