 + 1 moreI had a water leak in the fireplace (around and inside) which several contractors had not been able to fix. Mr. Kemal was polite, very responsive and came to asess the problem on a Saturday. He was accompanied by his son, who was equally polite and very pleasant to interact. They recommended sweeping the chimney, which was done by his team the same day in a very clean fashion. They took precautions not to leave any dirt/soot on the hard wood floors. He then inspected the chimney on the roof and said that the cap and flashing looked good as they were recently done and did not need any work. He suggested he could seal the surrounding with silicone so that the chances of water getting in house by the fireplace would be minimized. Since, then there have been no leaks in or around the fireplace. They did a tremendous job, recommended nothing that was unecessar and were able to fix what three other roof contractors were not able to fix. These guys are very good, reliable and do work at a very reasonable price.

 + 0 moreThe day they came to do the estimate they discovered the chimney was dangerously dirty- something the home inspector when we bought the house had ignored, although I could see the creosote. They offered to clean it that day- covered the area with sheets, cleaned up after themselves, worked around our many kids and dogs politely. Then gave me an estimate on the logs and gas line, which was slightly more than I had hoped, but he was willing to negotiate a little. He noticed that I was disappointed by the date he gave for installing it, so offered to do it sooner- on New Year's Day, at no extra cost! Again, the work was done efficiently, left no mess, and has worked well.
Description of Work: cleaned out chimney and fireplace, routed gas line from basement, installed vented gas logs.

 + 2 moreI was surprised and pleased that Chimney Sweep could do the work immediately on the day that I assumed would be only for an estimate. The owner and his assistant were prompt, courteous and efficient. I thought the price was in line with other estimates, and I appreciated the fact that he didn't tell me that I absolutely needed to have crown cementing done but left it up to me to decide.
Description of Work: Chimney Cricket responded the day after I called. The team arrived on schedule and gave me an estimate for repair and cleaning of a fireplace and chimney capping. I felt the estimate was fair and they were able to begin immediately. I also asked them to look at the chimney crown because a home inspection had revealed that the crown bricks were in need of additional cement. Upon inspection, they told me that the crown bricks were in good shape but that if I planned to stay many years in the home, cement probably should be added. I opted for this service as well, which added $200 to the estimate. The team was fast efficient and courteous and the owner also advised me that the living room rug, which was right up against the stone surrounding the fireplace, needed to be cut back because it was fire hazard. I knew this and plan to remove the carpet completely but appreciated his advice on this and also how best to use the fireplace (not building a fire that is too high, etc.). They work was finished in two hours and although the house is being renovated, they were very conscientious of keeping things clean during cleaning of the fireplace.

 + -1 moreI got them off the list. He was very, very nice and it was going to be $50 to have it fixed, but I did not go with him. I was quite happy with him and he was very pleasant, on time and clean. The only reason I did not use him was that I went with a company that was cheaper.
Description of Work: Chimney Cricket came out in February to see about fixing a cap on our chimney and he got the damper to close that was stuck open in our flue and gave us a recommendation to get the cap replaced.

 + 0 moreWent very well. Came to the house on New Year day to inspect and returned on January 3rd to perform the work. They arrived on time and performed the work quickly. They also caulked the chimney flashing, which was not part of the original work order without prompting from me. The gentleman I interacted with was very pleasant and willing to explain the work being performed. I would use them again.
Description of Work: Hot water heater was vented into chimney liner that had previously also vented the home furnace. Previous owner had replaced furnace with high efficiency model, removing the furnace vent from the chimney. The hot water heater vent provide too little heat to create the needed draft in certain weather conditions. The hot water heater would vent into the basement instead of up the chimney. Chimney cricket installed a new 3 inch liner for the hot water heater and repaired the damaged chimney cap. They also closed a third vent on the chimney that was no longer in use and only provided ingress for water. They also closed out the additional openings to the chimney in the basement.

 + 0 moreWe could not light the gas fireplace in the home we recently purchased. Chimney Cricket came within 2 days. After he inspected the fireplace and chimney, we learned that there was an opening in the chimney to another flue. This situation required repair. Within an hour, helpers cleaned the fireplace and chimney, the hole was efficently bricked over, we located the gas line to the fireplace, the lighting mechanism was adjusted, and we gained valuable information about our fireplace, safety and how the system could be updated later. The men were efficient, professional and pleasant, and careful in bringing cleaner and supplies into the house on a snowy day. We would call Chimney Cricket again, and recommend them.

Description of Work: Gas fireplace was not working. They inspected it, re-lit the pilot light, made some adjustments, re-stacked the gas logs and ta da . . . it's working again! Very nice gentleman. I was 99% certain that I needed an entirely new insert, along with new logs, at an estimated cost of $1,500 to $2,000. For $59 I'm up and running again. Needless to say . . . VERY pleased.

 + 0 moreWe use our wood burning fireplace quite extensively during the winter. During the time we've lived in this home (5 yrs) we had never had the chimney swept. Called Chimney Cricket to get a sweep and inspection done before the burning season started. Got a quote of $169 which was great in comparison to others that exceeded $300. The weekend day I hoped for was already booked for them, but they surprised me by asking "Are you available this Sunday morning?" Um, yes, that would be perfect!!! So happy they were willing to do a Sunday right away! The arrived on time (to the minute) and quickly had their tarps down and had gone to work. They were clean, courteous, and out in no time. I can't speak to the thoroughness of the inspection (the house is only 10 yrs old, however) as I had expected them to perhaps go up on the roof, etc, but they did not. However, they cleaned the chimney and fireplace and all for only $170. Overall is was a good experience and totally painless. A+

 + 2 moreI was having water coming into the house next to the chimney whenever it rained hard and from a certain direction. Called Kemal and he said he would be out on Sunday at 10:30. He and his helper were early and promptly went up on the roof to check out the problem. When he cam down he confirmed that the chimney needed pointing ans some of the flashing around the chimney needed chalked. He said it would be $480.00 to point the chimney, caulk the flashing and put a cap on the chimney. I thought that the price was a little high since the chimney is small, less than 3 feet high, and he only had to spot point the bricks since most of the cement was in place and only missing in a few places. When he went to put the cap on he didn't have on the right size to fit the chimney so he had to go to the local box store to get one that fit. No problem for me, I wasn't going anywhere. He finished up in about two hours including the time spent going to get the cap. Things looked good when he was done. I'd hire him again. Nice guy.

 + 0 moreHad this company out a few months ago to review issue with my chimney -bricks were falling down. After receiving three quotes, decided to go with the Chimney Cricket as they were far less expensive. However, once they got here to do the actual job, they were not able to do it as they found it was not within the scope of the proposal they gave me. Said the problem was far greater and that it would cost thousands more (which I believe) to repair. The man that talked to me each time was a little hard to understand and I think there was either a communication problem or something....but I appreciated his honesty in stopping when he knew that things were off course. I was able to get my chimney swept and the carbon monoxide problem taken care of. I would expect that someone from this company would call to discuss options, but so far this has not happened. Sort of frustrated as now I am back to square 1. All in all though, these folks are super -very responsive, professional and care about the work they do.
