Left a message on this companies answering machine and requested an estimate on replacing our roof. A representative of the company called back with in a day or two of the date I left the message and arranged an appointment. The company representative arrived at the desinated time and spent a fair amount of time looking at the roof and answering our questions regarding replacing it. Within a week of his visit, we recieved his estimate in the mail. Unfortunately though, the estimate was thousands of dollars over the price of 3 other estimates that we recieved. Therefore, we chose to go with another company. We were pleased though that the company showed up when they said they would and sent the estamate in timely manner. Many of the companies that we have contacted in the past for other work, either did not return our calls, didn't show up to provide the estimate at the time they scheduled, or if they did show up, never provided us with an estimate.

Their inspector recommended a complete replacement instead of repair. I was told that tin roofs rust from underneath, but I cannot find anyone to corroborate this information. They would not quote me for a repair job. Our roofs will be repaired and painted by another company for a little over $1000 instead of around $9000 for a complete replacement by Burns and Scalo. Also, it took them three weeks to provide me a quote after the visit by the inspector. By then, I already scheduled the job by someone else.

They patched the leak, but said that they didn't think the patch would hold since the leak had been repaired so many times in the past. It is clear from all the rain we've had recently, that the patch is already not working. I am stuck with the leak. They recommended that I completely replace the gutters with all new 6'' seamless gutters at an estimated expense of $4700.00. Otherwise, they did a good job cleaning the gutters and replacing the guards. There is no evidence that they were even here, in terms of debris and work materials. In general, I am happy with the work that they did perform, but I am sure that they could fix the single leak in my gutter without completely replacing the gutters.

Called in advance. Arrived on time.

The salesman came over to look at my roof and informed me that it was in such disrepair that Burns and Scalo could not repair it. Instead, he gave me an estimate for replacing the roof, which was approximately $17,000. Subsequently, I had two other roofers look at my roof. They both agreed that the roof could be repaired and their estimates ranged from $650-$800. One roofer said that my roof, which is slate, could last another 50 years.

They do a thorough job cleaning the gutters and downspouts. They even pulled tennis balls out of the downspouts. They also inspected the roof while they are here. They are professional and arrive on time. I would use them again.

I spoke with Bonnie Haney. She was very nice and professional over the phone. Unfortunately the company charges $95 for the service call plus $65 per hour, per man. It would have cost more than $200 just to have my gutter's cleaned. Their pricing for gutter cleaning is way out of line.

10'S ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE BOARD. I HAVEN'T USED THEM AT THIS POINT IN TIME DUE TO FINANCIAL ISSUES.

Burns & Scalo gave me clear time and material pricing before they arrived to do the repair. They arrived when they said they would and they only charged 1/2 hour to do the job. Moreover, the repair worked and I now have a dry attic. The crew (Dave and Chris) were professional and competent.

VERY PROFESSIONAL. NOT CHEAP BUT WORTH THE EXTRA COST. THESE GUYS KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING. THEY CAME WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD AND CLEANED UP AFTER THEMSELVES. WE HAD A MINOR PROBLEM, AND THEY CAME AND CORRECTED IT RIGHT AWAY.

PROMPT RESPONSE TO MY INITIAL PHONE CALL. WE RECEIVED A PROPOSAL WITHIN A WEEK, ALONG WITH THE RECOMMENDATION TO HAVE OUR GROUND DRAINS INSPECTED. THE WORKERS ARRIVED ON TIME AND WERE COURTEOUS AND FRIENDLY. THE WORK WAS COMPLETED QUICKLY, LOOKS GREAT, AND THE CLEAN-UP WAS THOROUGH. WE ALSO RECEIVED A FOLLOW-UP LETTER FROM THE COMPANY.

GREAT CALL BACKS, INFORMATIVE, VERY PROFESSIONAL. REPRESENTATIVE WAS ABLE TO GET ON THE ROOF WITH NO PROBLEMS WHEN OTHERS HAD DIFFICULTY. HOWEVER, I WAS ABLE TO FIND ANOTHER CONTRACTOR AT A LOWER RATE (BURNS AND SCALO PROVIDED THE MOST EXPENSIVE ESTIMATE).

I GOT AN ESTIMATE FOR THE GUTTER WORK PRETTY QUICKLY. THE PRICE WAS A LITTLE ON THE HIGHER SIDE, BUT BASED ON OTHER PEOPLE'S RECOMMENDATIONS, WE WENT WITH THEM. AFTER SENDING IN MY DEPOSIT, I DIDN'T HEAR FROM THE COMPANY. AFTER 2-3 WEEKS, I DECIDED TO CALL, AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER THEY SCHEDULED THE JOB (WERE THEY WAITING FOR ME THE WHOLE TIME???). THEY FINISHED THE JOB FAIRLY QUICKLY. JOB WAS DONE WELL AND LEFT THE SITE THE WAY IT WAS WHEN THEY CAME. IT DIDN'T LOOK LIKE THEY HAD BEEN THERE AT ALL.

LEFT MESSAGE WITH EMPLOYEE LISTED AS ANGIE'S LIST CONTACT. GAVE MY INFORMATION INCLUDING ZIP CODE. EMPLOYEE WAS ON VACATION. A WEEK LATER HEARD NOTHING. FINALLY GOT A CALL BACK WITH AN EXPLANATION. HIS GRANDMOTHER PASSED AWAY. GAVE HIM MY ZIP CODE AGAIN. FINALLY HE SAID, ''OH, THAT'S NOT MY AREA. THAT'S ANOTHER GUY. HE'S ON VACATION. HE'LL BE BACK NEXT FRIDAY.'' DECIDED NOT TO USE THE COMPANY. THE RECEPTIONIST, SECRETARIES DO NOT QUALIFY THE CUSTOMER BASED ON THEIR ZIP CODES, THOUGH THEIR SALES STRUCTURE IS BASED ON ZIP CODES.

THEY DID THE WORK WITH THE MOST SKILLED CRAFTMANSHIP AS POSSIBLE. THEY WERE ON TIME, POLITE, REASONABLY PRICED AND DID THE WORK IN LESS TIME THAN I EXPECTED.

THE REPRESENTATIVE WAS VERY FRANK ABOUT THE BACKUP IN ESTIMATING AND DOING THE WORK, DUE EFFECTS OF 2004 STORMS. WHEN THEY FINALLY WERE ABLE TO DO THE WORK, THE WORKMEN CAME WHEN SCHEDULED, WERE COMPETENT, PERSONABLE AND PROFESSIONAL. PROBLEM WAS MORE COMPLICATED THAT ORIGINALLY ANTICIPATED, AND BOTH WORKMEN AND SUPERVISORS WERE VERY COMMITTED TO SOLVING THE PROBLEM AND WENT BEYOND WHAT THE CONTRACT REQUIRED. AN EXCELLENT COMPANY TO DO BUSINESS WITH.

THIS COMPANY CAME HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. YET WAS VERY SLOW TO RESPOND TO PHONE CALLS, TOOK FOREVER TO COME AND LOOK AT THE PROBLEM. THE REPRESENTATIVE NEVER GOT ON THE ROOF AND THEN GAVE AN ESTIMATE TO REPLACE ALL THE GUTTERS TO THE TUNE OF $20,000! THIS REPRESENTATIVE WAS NEVER ABOVE THE 2ND STORY OF THE HOUSE! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL; HE JUST TRIED TO UP-SELL TO A JOB THAT WAS NOT NEEDED.

GREAT EXPERIENCE, FRIENDLY & PROFESSIONAL, GOOD CLEAN UP, MET THEIR COMMITMENTS IN TERMS OF PRICE, TIME, & QUALITY. VERY PLEASED WITH THE RESULTS.

I CALLED BECAUSE WE HAD WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS A ROOF LEAK. THEY RESPONDED QUICKLY, WERE VERY COURTEOUS, ETC. STATED THE PROBLEM (RIGHTLY SO) WAS NOT THE ROOF OR FLASHING AROUND CHIMNEY, BUT THE CHIMNEY ITSELF. THIS IS WORK THEY DID NOT DO. HE RECOMMENDED ANOTHER COMPANY. VERY HELPFUL.

THE B & S GUYS WERE NICE AND DID A FINE JOB INSPECTING MY ROOF BEFORE THE WINTER, FROM WHAT I COULD TELL. I WOULD PROBABLY HIRE THEM AGAIN TO CHECK MY ROOF, BUT MIGHT CONSIDER HIRING ANOTHER COMPANY TO DO MAJOR ROOFING WORK BASED ON THE NUMBER OF NEGATIVE REVIEWS ON ANGIE'S LIST. AGAIN, I FOUND NO PROBLEMS WITH THEIR WORK, BUT AM REALLY NOT QUALIFIED TO JUDGE.

FIRST I MUST EXPLAIN THE COMPANY TOLD ME THEY WERE EFFECTED BY THE HURRICANE IVAN AND I WANTED TO BE UNDERSTANDING, BUT AFTER GIVING THEM A $415 DOWN PAYMENT WAY BACK ON AUG 24TH, THEY NEVER CALLED ME. I HAD TO CALL THEM TWO WEEKS AGO. I ALSO CALLED THE SALESMAN A WEEK AGO AND HE'S NEVER CALLED. I MUST STATE THE FLOOD WAS AFTER I SIGNED MY CONTRACT. THEY TELL ME THEIR TRUCKS WERE RUINED IN THE FLOOD. I CAN WAIT A LITTLE LONGER, BUT HOW AM I TO KNOW THESE PEOPLE ARE BEING HONEST WITH ME AND NOT GIVING THE RUN AROUND? DON'T YOU THINK A BUSINESS SHOULD KEEP THEIR CUSTOMERS INFORMED? WE MIGHT NOT HAVE TOO MANY MORE NICE DAYS TO DO ROOFING WORK. I BELIEVE THIS IS A GOOD COMPANY AND I HAVE NOT YET CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT THEM DOING MY WORK, BUT LET ME KNOW SOMETHING. I THOUGHT THE PRICE WAS HIGH, BUT I TRUSTED THEM TO DO A BETTER JOB.

I GRADED THE QUALITY OF THE WORK ONLY A B BECAUSE THE CREW DID NOT HAVE THE TOOL NEEDED TO PERMANENTLY FIX MY ROOF FLASHING. BUT THEY FIXED THE ROOF LEAK VERY WELL TEMPORARILY (GOOD FOR ONE YEAR). THEY WILL BE BACK IN THE SUMMER AT MY CALL.

I CAN'T GRADE THEIR WORK SINCE THEY REFUSE TO GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE.

THEY REQUIRED A 20% DOWN PAYMENT WITH A SIGNED CONTRACT. AFTER THEY CASHED MY DEPOSIT CHECK THEY REFUSED TO HONOR THE CONTRACT I SIGNED, WHICH INCLUDED TERMS THAT THE SALESMAN AND I HAD AGREED TO. THEY ALSO SENT ME A NEW BLANK CONTRACT, AND REFUSED TO HONOR THE EARLIER SIGNED CONTRACT. IN ADDITION, THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ME EVEN A BALLPARK DATE FOR INSTALLATION BEFORE WINTER. IT TOOK SEVERAL PHONE CALLS TO GET THEM TO AGREE TO RETURN MY CHECK, AND IT TOOK THREE MORE PHONE CALLS TO GET THEM TO SEND IT. I ENDED UP HAVING TO PLACE A CALL TO THE HEAD OF THE LOCAL OFFICE IN ORDER TO GET A RESPONSE. NO OTHER ROOFER I CONTACTED HAD AS DETAILED A CONTRACT, PROTECTING THE COMPANY FROM CONSUMERS. ANGIE'S LIST PROVIDED LIMITED SUPPORT IN THE FORM OF ADVICE AND THE OFFER TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE COMPANY. IN THE END, I NEEDED ADVICE FROM AN ATTORNEY AND COMMUNICATION TO THE COMPANY OF MY INTENT TO SEEK LEGAL ACTION THAT PROMPTED RETURN CALLS AND ACTION FROM BURNS @ SCALO. BURNS @ SCALO WAS UNPR

THIS COMPANY RETURNED MY INITIAL PHONE CALL QUICKLY AND SENT THE APPROPRIATE PAPERWORK. THEY WERE DELAYED IN SCHEDULING THE WORK DATE AND I HAD TO CALL TO ACTUALLY GET A DATE. THEY CHANGED THE DATE BY MOVING IT UP, BUT AFTER THE DATE WAS SET, THE WORK WAS COMPLETED QUICKLY. TO MY KNOWLEDGE, THE WORK WAS COMPLETED COMPETENTLY. THE COMPANY CALLED AFTERWARD TO CHECK ON MY SATISFACTION.
