Completely professional, prompt and courteous. No issues. I was quite preoccupied due to a death in the family. The installers, Jack and Steve, were accommodated my needs for quiet as I made many, many phone calls. I marked the price as N/A in the rating section because I did no comparison pricing. I believe it was fair, but I have no proof.
Description of Work: Detected a bad control board in the (approximately) 13 year old furnace. Recommended furnace be replaced due to its age. Installed new furnace, and registered all Trane equipment.

The job went smoothly and it was done on time. We were impressed with the crew's expertise and are very satisfied with the system they installed. They cleaned up thoroughly after completing the job. The installers provided instructions on how to operate the controls and how to install and clean the filters and they included a followup two week check to make sure everything is working well.
Description of Work: We have a master bath and large closet over a garage that were much colder than the rest of the home. Frank Moran, one of the owners, came to our home to evaluate the problem and to provide recommendations and a quote. He arrived on time and suggested the installation of the Mitusbithi hyperheat mini split ductless heat pump to control the temperature and humidity for these rooms. The master bath and large closet temperature varied as much as 20+ degrees from the main home and the humidity was considerably higher summer and winter. Due to the limited access to this area it was impractical and more costly to modify and add another zone from the main furnace. A-Comfort is a Diamond Distributor for Mitsubishi which means their crews are trained and certified to install this type of system plus we received an additional 2 years warranty. Their quote was reasonable and 15% lower than the high bid. The installation crew was professional, well trained, and neat. They covered the stairs and flooring with tarps and plastic and all of the workers wore protective shoe coverings whenever they were in the house. They also installed a Honeywell air cleaner on our main furnace and added a heating vent for a storage room. All of the work was done in one day with a 3 man crew. I have a technical background and was impressed with how they dressed the line runs, sealed all home penetrations with concrete where appropriate and made sure the installation wiring, conduit, and refrigeration line runs were placed in line hide that matched the trim color of the home. After completing the installation there was a minor problem with one of the units. They made sure everything was working before they left and returned the next business day to change out the defective component. The system works great and for the first time since moving in the master bath and closet are comfortable and the humidity levels dropped to normal. I would recommend them to anyone and will use them for all of my HVAC and plumbing needs.

Large, expensive and complex project was pretty well thought out by the crew, and executed in tough, hot conditions. The lead installers were skillful and generally did good work, but the newbie helpers were in over their heads and should have had constant supervision, which they didn't, and thus resulted in shoddy work in some parts of the system. The workers arrived on-time every day for two weeks, cleaned up after themselves, and were generally trustable and nice guys. No worries to leave them on their own for awhile while running errands. They did return a few weeks later to correct some installation problems that I discovered, at no charge. I have found several more issues since, but decided to just fix them myself. No final system inspection was performed by the owner Todd, although he was integral in the planning stages. If he had been around to inspect during installation, I think it would have made a positive impact on the job. The completed AC system works fine, but feel I overpaid several thousand dollars and should have shopped around for a better deal. A-Comfort Service also installed my boiler 5 or 6 years ago, and the installer did outstanding work on that job!

They were on time and clean every day of the job. They arrived when they said they would and kept us informed of progress and what was next. They were clean during installation as well as cleaned up every day and were careful and considerate of our house and it's belongings. They were also flexible during the project and able to work in requests for specific vent and condenser locations. The final installation runs well and looks professionally installed inside and out. It was a pleasure working with them.
Description of Work: A Comfort Sevice installed a new HVAC system in our attic as well as built a platform for the unit and some storage. The work also included extending a gas line from our second floor laundry room and installing an attic fan. Everyone involved in the project was professional and helpful. From the initial estimate to the final walk through when the system was installed and running, they were professional, helpful, clean and knowledgable. They took the time to answer all my questions thoroughly and make sure I understood the information and more importantly, made sure I had the information needed to pick the system that best met our needs. They went above and beyond with the platform they built.

On 12/8/10, the furnace would heat up, but the blower would not come on. I called for service and they sent Karl out to check my furnace. Karl noted that the resistor in the blower motor module needed to be replaced, but since we had another company clean the furnace that fall, (I did that for the first time that fall, because they were 1/2 the price for a clean and check and did not charge me a gas/travel fee like A-comfort did), he told me that A-Comfort would not honor the Trane warranty and the part would be $816 to properly repair. Even though they are a Trane Dealer and I had another Trane Certified dealer clean and check the furnace. This was December and I had a 9 month old in the house, and they decided they would not honor the warranty. He rigged the part as a workaround, (Karl actually wrote on the invoice"10 year parts and labor void do to another company servicing furnace" and "wired together, if module not replaced motor will fail") and charged me $138 for the repair trip. My husband called a HVAC person he knows from work, who called Trane on our behalf to see if he could get the part under warranty on our behalf or if we could have our warranty transferred to another dealer to get the part under warranty. Apparently, Trane contacted A-comfort to see why they would not honor the warranty, because one of owners (not Todd - I don't remember his name) called back to say when they said "the warranty was void and they would not honor it" they really meant they "would honor it if we would promise to have them clean our furnace in the future" instead of the other Trane dealer. (Even though Karl wrote on the $138 bill it was void.) My husband said OK, thinking maybe the other company broke something and we should use A-comfort for quality. Karl came back on on 12/13 to replace the part, which he did. He then admitted that that particular model of furnace had a rash of problems with a defective resistor that caused the blower motor to fail. (So it was not the other company after all). Then he proceded to present me with a bill for over $235. When I told him the owner said he would honor the repair under the warranty, which was free, Karl agreed that the repair was free but the $235 bill was for a service contract for a clean and check. He actually wrote on the bill that we must have a mainteance contract instead of just paying for the service. I asked him if he cleaned the furnace while he was down there he said no he did not have time and the other company already cleaned it anyway. I asked him why I should pay for work that he was not going to do. He said that it was required for the warranty and that was the agreement my husband had with the owner. I was home alone with my baby and he was trying to strong arm me into writing him a check for more money I did not owe. I said I wanted to check with my husband, and called him at work. He then called the owner, who then called Karl to inform him that we did not have to buy any maintenance contract. Karl then left me with the maintenance contract that he said I could sign and mail in. By rights I should have gotten the $138 back that I paid for the temporary repair, since it was under warranty, but after that experience, I don't want Karl back in my house, and don't want to deal with A-comfort any more.
Description of Work: I have A-comfort service install a new gas line, furnace, and AC unit in 2001 for over $8000. We had them out for several clean/checks over the years. In 2010, the blower motor stopped working and this was supposed to be a repair under warranty 10 year parts and labor that we purchased with the furnace.

The furnace they installed is impressive. It consists of two boilers and a manifold that provides hot water to 5 zones. Also It uses an outdoor temperature sensor to increase efficiency. The furnace was installed 5/2007 and worked fine until early 2011. Then on 2 separate occasions there were malfunctions that required repairs that I was charged for. On the second visit the technician sold me an "Energy Saver Agreement" for $260. It was supposed to reduce maintenance costs among other things. Two months after the "boiler tune-ups" covered by the agreement were performed the furnace malfunctioned again. I lost heat in a section of the house. The technician came out and flushed air out of the system then charged me $252 and recommended I pay for installation of an auto-bleed valve for $450. When I called the company to dispute the charges they told me that the energy saver agreement was not a service contract and did not cover repairs. I told them that the boiler tune-ups didn't do many of the things indicated on the contract like reduce maintenance costs on items including plumbing. Their service manager called me a week later to tell me that they found a mistake in the paperwork of one of the previous repairs and they had mistakenly charged me for a replacement thermostat that was under warranty. He said that this would reduce the disputed charges by $179. I told the service manager that that was a separate issue and that they owed me the $179 refund for the thermostat on top of the disputed $252 for the latest repair. He retorted that he "didn't have to tell me" about the thermostat under warranty. He seemed to be saying that he was doing me a favor by being honest and ethical. The dispute was elevated to the owners and I received a phone call from one of them. He was very reasonable to talk to and he did waive the $252 charge. In the course of the conversation he confessed that the furnace was supposed to have had a follow up inspection after it was installed and never did. I am happy that the last repair charge was waived. I am not happy that they over charged me $179 for the thermostat and I am left to wonder if the other $1000 that I did pay for repairs on my 4 year old system could have been avoided if they would have done the follow up inspection after installation in the first place. Overall I have positive feelings towards my furnace and A-Comfort. They seem to be trying to do the right thing. I think the problems that I have had with them could be solved if they took a more proactive approach to their quality control.
Description of Work: They installed a full furnace system for me. The furnace has 2 boilers and heats 5 zones. I paid a little extra for the outdoor temperature sensor option.

I needed the A/C units serviced for the sale of my house. I also asked that the boiler be serviced as a courtesy to the new buyer. A Comfort Service serviced the A/C units (and I have no knowledge one way or the other if they did so correctly). When they serviced the boiler, they stated that the chimney needed a flue liner, which he conveniently offered to take care of for $600, and also said that it needed a new pilot assembly. My mason, who is excellent, was standing there and shook his head no. I declined the work, because I didn't believe the guy from A Comfort Service. My mason later described the various technical reasons why that particular (non-high efficiency) boiler did not require a flue liner in an internal chimney. I later asked if they would split the invoice into 2, so that I could show just the A/C servicing for the new buyer without the (misguided) recommendations for the boiler. They argued and argued with me about it. Finally, A Comfort Service agreed that they would split the invoices do but only if I paid them an extra $50 charge. They wanted to charge me $50 to re-issue 2 invoices instead of one! I was so livid! I decided to call the most reputable HVAC service provider in the area and had the boiler reviewed a second time. Not only did the second HVAC company confirm that there was no need for a flue liner and that there was nothing wrong with the pilot assembly, the second company advised me that the boiler had a bad gas valve and a dangerous gas leak. I smelled it and saw the results on the gas leak detector. So, not only did A Comfort Service try to sell me a $600 flue liner and a pilot assembly I didn't need, and not only did they want to charge me $50 to split one invoice into two, THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN MISSED A DANGEROUS GAS LEAK. STAY AWAY FROM THEM!! In my opinion, they were incompetent and more interested in money than providing high value services. Bad!! Very bad!!

They said it would take 2 days and it did. Found the work done was very clean and professional. Returned 2 weeks later to do a service check and verify everything was as it should be. Could have gotten same unit cheeper from another company but A Comfort is local and have a good reputation.
Description of Work: Removed old furnace and air conditioner. Installed new Trane XV95 Furnace along with new outside unit for the A/C and added a aircleaner and new thermostat Took extra time to make the intake and exhaust for the furnace fit between the floor joices and aginst the wall. Reinstalled humidifer remove from old furnace with all new plumbing and made sure it was working. Outside A/C unite now sits level and farther from bedroom window, realy didn't matter because it is much quieter than old unit.

The work was not done right and was extremely overpriced. We were in negotiations on the house and the one toilet was loose. We had them go over to the house and they said that the toilet needed the stack chopped. The house is only 16 years old, so this should not be the case, but we did not know any better. They spend about 4 hours over at the house and charged $990. We did not have time to do research, because of a 2 week closing on the house. We trusted them with our money and the decision making on fixing the issue. We just had the toilets replace and the Master plumber that installed the toilets told us the following. There is no way in the world that it should cost that much money to do this little work. They also did not do the work right. They did not need to chop the stack, so A comfort actually lied. They also did not spin the screws right or put in enough screws, so for all the money they did not do what they said, and did not do the work right. There seems to be nothing they did for the money. They have these really clean looking trucks with all these brochures and you pay for it big time. You need to watch yourself with these guys. The guy who came here was so endearing and nice, like your father, but he ripped us off big time. He lied about the work, did not do the work he said, and overcharged us by about $700. We learned our lesson with these guys and they will never enter our house again. I would advise anyone that chooses these guys for their work to not do it. You need to get many bids on any work and see that they are overpriced.

The individual assessed the toilets and said there were worth fixing. The person was here for 1 hour and 45 minutes and replaced the parts insides of 3 toilets. The cost was $600, which I knew nothing about, so I paid. The toilets kept leaking and the person returned. He said that the toilets were never going to run properly, because they were low grade builders model toilets that were 16 years old. The first time he came he said there were solid toilets that should be fixed and if I did replace them it would be well over $1400 for basic models. He replaced the internal parts of the toilets again and they worked for a short period of time. The parts that were used in the toilets were Fluidmaster and they are sold in kits for 29.99 at Home Depot. The Master Plumber that came to the house said he only used parts from some high end plumbing store and would never go to Home Depot. The exact parts he used were there, because I took pictures of everything while he was doing it so I could learn, so that was not true. I would do my research on everything that is said and done if you get any work done. I would also ask for the book rate and the hourly rate, because he told me "No other plumbers work by the hour any more" and that was also not true. The advice that was given was not true and the prices were outrageous. We have had 4 other estimates on the toilets since, because they are not working right and why fix them when we can get new ones for the same price, so please do your home work. We recently priced out American Standard Cadet 3 toilets for $450 for 3 toilets. It is going to be $220 to install them. We could have paid for brand new installed toilets for the amount it cost us to fix 3 extremely old toilets. I have had to file a report with the BBB and am working through a case with them to try and get some money back. I talked to the owner to get some money back and he said his prices are fair and would not refund one dime. We have had 4 estimates from Master Plumbers and they have all quoted us prices on new toilets, close to the price we paid to fix the ones we have, and on new ones only a couple hundred more at the most more than what we paid to fix the present toilets. A Comfort comes on as this nice guy we are going to help you out company, but in the end they are going to take you and take you big. I personally would never let them in my door, even for free. If you do use them make sure you get many bids and know if you have a beef you will not get any satisfaction. The work was done poorly and our overall experience was terrible. Please proceed with caution.

I called A Comfort after normal business hours and received a call back in less than an hour. I talked to Rocco, and he advised I most likely needed a new hot water heater. He was willing to come that day, for an $80 off duty fee, but I decided to wait for the next work day. Rocco said he would have A Comfort contact me in the morning to set up an appointment. The next morning, Rocco called and within two hours was at my house. The existing hot water heater was not repairable and Rocco installed a new hot water heater and an expansion tank. The new hot water heater comes with a ten year parts and labor warranty.

For this they were fine. However, the compressor died two weeks later. We needed a new a/c unit and furnace. We asked them for an estimate. They gave us a price on a Trane which included a rebate. However, they called us back and said we could not get the rebate with the unit we selected. A Comfort said they would reduce the original estimate since we couldn't get the rebate and send us a new estimate. After two weeks and several calls, we never received the new estimate. We had to buy the unit from somebody else. Which turned out to be good. The other company gave us a better A/C unit, new power humidifier and air cleaner at a better price than A Comfort's original quote. Plus, with the other companies unit, we did qualify for the rebate from Trane.

The humidifier runs water through the system and right out the drain pipe. It was tapped into the hot water pipes. Any energy saved from the new furnace seems like it would be ruined by hot water and the water running. Not sure if this is how it works, but I wish I would have known that before dropping $300 for the new humidifier (not to mention I heard it struggle to start once). The pipes leading to the outside are completely open. I was expecting a cap of some sort to be put on so squirrels and the likes can't enter. The men who did the install were nice, and were there a long time. The look of the system seems more clunky then the really old (40 years?) furnace we had. The location for the filter is sharp. The filter that they installed is pointing the wrong way and is wedged in there. For the price, I would expect a more professional appearance. They never did waive the service fee. Still waiting for 2 week follow-up.
Description of Work: A Comfort installed a XR90 furnace and a bypass humidifier. Very courteous employees.

A-Comfort already has good reviews on Angie's List. They did a great job. They also maintain my furnace for me, too. I have never had any problems with anything. I do not have to pay for these checks because they were the ones who originally installed the systems and these checks are still part of the agreement.
Description of Work: My air conditioning unit was checked out by A-Comfort. They just checked to be sure all was ready for the hot weather.

I like that they are organized and consistent. They are also very punctual and on time when they come. I do have a service contract with them that I pay once a year and that includes two maintenance checks.
Description of Work: A-Comfort services my heating and air conditioning system twice a year. My home is 1,800 square feet.

The price was reasonable and the work was very good. I continue to use them to clean my furnace regularly now. They did a great job on all of the different things they did for us. They were very helpful and both of the units work great. They disposed of the old units for me.
Description of Work: They installed a new air conditioning unit and relocated to a different spot from the old one that they removed. They also installed a new furnace and gas line because the old unit was electric and they converted it to all gas. They are high efficiency units and my house is 1700 square feet.

Absolutely perfect. I can't say enough to recommend these guys. They are professional, friendly, respectful, and they go out of their way to make sure you know what's going on and how everything works. They ran into several obstacles along the way, called in additional help when needed, and still finished on time. Their cleanup was thorough, and the office people are very helpful, and their salesperson helped us find the right products for our needs instead of trying to pressure us into buying the most expensive models.
Description of Work: Installed new furnace and air conditioner, with humidifier and air cleaner. Included a concrete pad for the new furnace. Put in new pipes, ductwork, and circuit breaker. Installed and programmed new thermostat. Punched holes in outside wall for air conditioner wiring and vent. Cut hole in interior wall for thermostat wiring. Sealed and repaired all holes, and cleaned up.
