Description of Work: We had an odd situation occur especially given the great reviews of this company. We were having the sole bathroom of a home we were moving into renovated and wanted a certified plumber to do the job, because we wanted it done correctly. I researched plumbers on Angie's list and gave my contractor several names one of which was Sullivan & Sons. He said he knew them and felt they could meet our budget for plumbing and he was comfortable that they would do good work. We made frequent visits to the property and did run into the plumber the day he brought the permit out, so we thought we were good to go. Bottom line of our odd situation is that Sullivan and Sons pulled the plumbing permit for the job, which we paid for, and then did not do the work, the contractor did. After the contractor walked off the job and we moved into the home about a month later we discovered we had a leaky faucet and a few other concerns, so I contacted Sullivan & Sons and someone came out to look at it and also give us an estimate to install a gas dryer. The person who came out knew nothing about the previous work, but would get back to me about it. Later that day he called and told me that they did not do the plumbing work, they just pulled the permit as a favor to the contractor in return for a favor he had done for them. REALLY! He further stated that if we hired them to do the dryer install they would fix our leak. Needless to say we did not contact them again. Not only were we told by the contractor that they did the work, we were told that they ran into an issue that needed additional money. Wow - it seems we were taken advantage of by the contractor and Sullivan & Sons appears to have assisted him in misleading us by pulling the permit and allowing someone else to do the work. I have since sent them an email asking that they at least review the work done under their name - no reply was received. We truly wish we would have gotten the quality of work other reviewers described. In response to your post of my review Mr. Sullivan... I appreciate your response. Thank you Mr. Sullivan for verifying that you pulled the permit after the some initial work had already been completed. Perhaps it is a common practice for your company to green light an independent contractor's work, but I thought the work was done by your company as that is what we were told by our contractor and your company was listed as the plumbing contractor responsible for the work on the posted permit. Honestly, if permits can be pulled after the work is done by someone who did not do the work - what is the point? Why would a company become involved or even pull a permit in these circumstances ? You are correct we did not call you directly to setup the subcontract, and believe me that is a mistake I have not made since or will ever make again. This experience has taught me vet every vendor personally. However; given that I was present at the house the day one of your men was there delivering the permit and that one of your work trucks was parked in front of my home I had no reason to suspect you had not in fact been subcontracted to do the work. Instead it appears the contractor whom you green lighted continued to work under your permit telling us the entire time you were doing the job and charging us extra in your name. It is my understanding that to get a permit in the city one has to affirm... "All provisions of the building code and other city ordinances will be compiled with whether specified herein or not. Plans approved by the department form a part of this application. I hereby certify that the statements contain herein are true and correct to best of my knowledge and belief. I further certify that I am authorized by the owner to make the foregoing application, and that, before I accept my permit for which this application is made, the owner shall be made aware of all conditions of this permit. I understand that if I knowing make any false statement herein I may be subject to such penalties as may be prescribed by law or ordinances." You may not have been hired directly by us Mr. Sullivan, but in pulling the permit you seem to have affirmed being authorized by the owner to do so. So one can see how this would led us to believe your were the one doing the work. Perhaps we were both duped; however pulling a permit for work already done does not appear to be very good or professional business practices, at least not for consumers. Hopefully doing such is not the industry standard, but perhaps so. We were clearly misled by our contractor; however Mr. Sullivan the "Favor" you did by pulling the permit for this contractor may well have assisted him in his deception. In the future, I hope no other consumers are placed in a similar circumstances by such actions. Activities like these violate trust and make it difficult for consumers to navigate the maze of home renovations and get the services for which they have paid. I have become a savvier consumer as a result of this experience and I hope this review and our exchange serves to educate others.

Response from Thomas Sullivan & Sons Plumbing & Heating
This costumer never called us to do any work. The contractor they hired called us and asked if we could pull a permit for the for the drain lines to the sink and tub on the 2nd floor. After inspecting the plumbing they had done and seeing it was done correctly we did indeed pull a permit for the drain lines to the sink and tub on the 2nd floor. A Philadelphia plumbing inspector came out and passed that work as well. I was later called about a tub faucet that the home owner had purchased themselves. (We did not sell or install this faucet for them), we did however respond to there call and informed them it was not our work, and we offered to repair the faucet for a reasonable fee. I was not in contact with “[member name removed]" at any time during this job that I was not hired by them to do. We did however respond to there later calls in a prompt and professional manner. I am sorry if you were miss led by an other contractor, we at Sullivan had no way of knowing what your dealings with them were as you made no call to us to do any of this work. Mike Sullivan.

Description of Work: I got three estimates for a plumbing repair ranging $200.00 to $1,400. The other two companies gave alot of what if's that may or may not increase the orginal estimate. Tom Sullivan was very straight forward and was able to solve the problem for a fraction of the cost quoated by the other two companies. Honest-reliable-cost effective he's your man.The service was for my mother-in-law who depends on us to assist with repairs and up keep of her home. She has high standards and was extreamly please with this company.
