+ -1 moreNightmare, I had reserved the frieght elevator in my building from 2pm to 5pm, called and reserved the movers three weeks in advance and told them to be there at 2pm. On the day of the move the crew leader "Nelson" called me at 12:30pm and said they would be there at 1pm. I explained that I did not have use of the elvator until 2pm. He said ok and would be there at 2pm. I called him at 1:45pm to ask if the crew was close and he said that he was at lunch and would not arrive to my place until 3pm. I called the office and they said they would speak to the driver about arriving on time. Approx 5mins later the driver called back saying how dare I call his boss to interrupt him on his lunch break. Overall they arrived one and a half hours late. The crew smelled like they had been drinking! They acted like they were doing me a huge favor. Completly unprofessional, talked to one of my friends helping out, about how they just wanted to go home, smoke and get High!

+ -1 moreGreat. They really worked hard to get as much stuff as possible up the trinity stairs. The only thing that didn't make it was a sleeper sofa.
Description of Work: Mambo moved me from a studio into a house with trinity stairs. I had several pieces of furniture that had to be moved within the house. It took less than two hours.

+ -1 moreThe move went exceptionally well. These guys are fantastic! I had everything packed and ready when the movers arrived and it took three movers about an hour and 15 minutes to load the truck, two and a half hours to drive to New Jersey and 45 minutes to unload on the other end. They opted to not take lunch and finish the job even after driving for 2 1/2 hours. They were prompt arriving within the half hour window of time that they had approximated and began working immediately and did not stop until the job was completed. I grew up in a military family and have moved often as an adult and this by far was the most economical and uncomplicated move I have ever experienced and they were very reasonably priced, charging 5 hours in travel time and 2 hours and 15 minutes for labor at a rate of $105 an hour. They were careful and absolutely all of my belongings arrived intact, undamaged and unbroken.
Description of Work: I moved from a two bedroom second floor apartment in Philadelphia to a one bedroom first floor apartment in Montclair, New Jersey.

Nelson and his crew showed up on time, and they moved us out of our old place and in to our new place, on time and on budget. No damage, no mess, no fuss. I highly recommend these guys.

+ -1 moreBecause of the commute, the day started a little later than I expected, BUT those guys hustled!! We hired a different moving company from our move from a 2 bedroom apt. to our old house, and it took significantly longer than this move, even though we had SO much more stuff. They were very careful with the few pieces of furniture we really cared about and they were very accommodating. It was a great group of guys, who I would recommend in a heart beat.
Description of Work: Moved our family from a 3 story plus basement house to a 3 story plus basement house in some serious record time.

We have a sofa that was extremely difficult for us to move in when we purchased it, and the movers got it through the door quickly and with total ease. We were impressed with the speed with which they emptied the contents of our house into the moving van. I have hired them for our move back to our house and would hire them for any future move. They are great and the price is a good deal.
Description of Work: Mambo moved the contents of our home into a storage unit one year ago and we have hired them to do the reverse move in one week.

+ -1 moreIt was just fair. I didn't think they were so great. More like, very experienced student movers, who hadn't graduated to the professional leagues. Sorry to be a kill joy here, but I was expecting more.
Description of Work: I read the rave reviews about Mambo Movers, and had them move my three bedroom apartment. They were a bit amateurish, leaving muddy marks all over the carpet with their loading equipment. They did compensate me the $75 dollars it took to clean the carpet, but who needs the aggravation? They weren't as careful as I would have liked them to be. Their furniture pads were dirty and got pollen and dirt all over my fabric sofa. I had to pick it all out and it took an hour to clean. They complained quite a bit about bringing up furniture up two flights of stairs, even though I told the dispatcher about the features of my new home. Overall, they made me feel like they were doing me a big favor.

+ -1 moreMambo are pretty good, although they aren't total full-service movers like I've used in the past (that is, they don't do packing, they only move the stuff). The two crews we had were good, the foremen in charge were always the best of the lot although the crews were generally helpful if a little surly at times. The crews moved two-plus bedrooms worth of stuff fairly quickly. The second time we used them they took a little longer than anticipated; I used to work as a furniture mover so I have some sense of how long jobs should take and both times I thought were a little on the slow side.
Description of Work: Mambo has done two moves for us in two years, in and out of two high-rise apartments. They moved large furniture, boxes, clothes, etc.

+ -1 moreAfter my wife and I were married, we needed to move her things from a small apartment to my house. Most movers we contacted either did not want the work, or had what effectively was a minimum purchase price. Fortunately, we found Mambo Movers through a friend who lived in Philadelphia. They quickly scheduled an appointment to give us a quote, which was very reasonable. The day of the move, the team showed up early and were prepared to get everything moved quickly. They very quickly got the apartment packed up and everything onto the truck. The only hitch in getting from my wife's things to my house was that there was only one road to my house that did did not have an underpass, and it took us a while to figure out where is was. They unpacked everything quickly, and nothing was damaged. I would definitely use Mambo again.

+ -1 moreCalled Mambo to schedule my move about 3 weeks before the date, 9/29/09. Very courteous on the phone and scheduled me in and gave me an estimate after asking me some questions about my move. On the day of the move, Dean called to keep me informed of their arrival time. They arrived right on time. Dean, Kevin and Matt came in, assessed the apartment, started the clock and hauled my stuff out like Sherpas on Mount Everest. My stairs are pretty steep and scary, but it was no problem for them. They were patient, kind, understanding, funny, and EXTREMELY helpful. Nothing was too hard or too disorganized for them. They even found the lost tape. I almost want to move again! They were also great on the other end, and completed my job in two hours which I thought was amazing. The "move" part of my day was absolutely the BEST part. It will take a gag order to get me to stop recommending this company, they were just extraordinary. Just hire them, you won't regret it.

They were careful and polite, and I thought they were honest about the time they took off the clock for lunch. As far as I can tell, nothing was broken during the move, and I was tired but happy at the end of the day.

+ -1 moreThe entire time, the movers were professional, polite and caring. They worked very hard because many of the larger pieces of furniture had to be moved up a narrow staircase. (No nicks or scrapes on the walls or furniture!) Needless to say, I thought the movers did a remarkable job.
Description of Work: The movers had to move some very heavy and bulky pieces of furniture (e.g. bedroom dressers, 4 mirrored closets or armoires, dining room pieces, etc.) from our present home in Philadelphia to our new home in Little Egg Harbor, N.J. They arrived promptly and were especially careful about protecting not only the furniture that had to be moved, but also the furniture that remained in our present home. There were some pieces that had to be disassembled before the move and then reassembled at the new location and the movers were excellent at this task. They worked efficiently and effectively, patiently answered our questions and were very considerate about protecting our new floors. In fact, our move was made in the rain (It rained off and on, all day.) and when the movers were finished, I did not have one mud or water stain on my new white rugs. They were super careful to walk on the contractor paper that we laid on the floor. Also, they laid their own quilts in order to protect further the floors from mud and water.

+ -1 moreThey were more than 2 hrs late arriving and without a phone call to let me know. Because of the delay, we had to travel through a terrible storm on the 2 hr drive to the new place. Luckily, when we arrived, it had mostly stopped raining so the unloading was dry except for the last pieces when the skies opened up again. Other than the tardiness, I was happy with the move.
Description of Work: Three guys moved me from a one-bedroom condo in Central NJ to a 3 bedroom townhouse in South Jersey. They were quick and professional. No damage to any furniture. I was hoping for them to be entertaining as was described by some others on the List, but my crew was pretty quiet.

+ -1 moreWe moved on a rainy day, so after calling, the 3-person Mambo team arrived about 60 minutes later, after the worst of the rain. This was a good decision, because it stopped raining and then the sun came out for the rest of the day. They worked hard from about 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. before finishing. And while there were some nicks to furniture and walls here and there, I thought they did a very good job under difficult circumstances. They even moved a small piano (at an extra hour's charge), because it was only going one level. I've heard horror stories from other people about movers not showing up or not being courteous when they did. That is not true of Mambo at all. They were good guys to deal with and we were happy enough with their work to tip them generously. By the end of moving day, they become like members of your family.
Description of Work: Mambo had to move a great deal of furniture from a 3-bedroom home in Upper Darby to a 4-level home in center city. It was a difficult job, because some of the furniture was big and the turning areas were not. But they were pleasant and helpful throughout. My only problem was they could not figure how to get my computer desk/hutch apart, and I had to have them move it several days later after my brother-in-law disassembled it. (So the price I spent was for two different teams. And the second move was about 3 1/2 hours late).

+ -1 moreThis company was great to deal with. I called national moving companies and got a lot of rules and reasons they could not do a small job. Mambo allowed us to arrange the job as we needed and estimated fairly for time and travel.
Description of Work: We had to move a dining room set from a condo outside of DC to our Philadelphia suburban home. Mambo traveled down, loaded the set, traveled back and moved it into proper place in our home. They were very careful with the furniture and nothing was damaged. They accomplished all in 1 day and charged what they estimated.

+ -1 moreMambo really helped me out. I needed just a few pieces moved out of my mother's apartment in NYC back to my apartment in Philly within a specific period of time. We did some negotiating and they were able to accommodate me. While some people might be upset in Mambo's scheduling, I have used them twice before and just love their honesty upfront. They do 2 jobs a day, and the second one of the day occurs based on how long the first one took. They called, let me know and we finished up late. My landlady made the guys coffee and cookies for which they were very greatful. The guys just have great personalities! They will figure out how to move anything and while working, just move on through until they finish. I would never move myself again as long as they exist. I hope they just go on being Mambo because they probably could get much bigger if they wanted.
Description of Work: Moved a few pieces of furniture from NYC to Philadelphia by using the back of another persons truck load. They moved out of a major NYC apartment building from the 13th floor and up two steep flights of stairs into my walk-up apartment.

The apartment was cleared out before we knew it, they wasted no time getting to the new location (important since they charge by the hour) and they promptly unloaded everything. Everything was handled with care. I had to move my daughter the prior year and used another firm for the move. There was no comparison to how good Mambo Movers operated.

They called about 45 minutes before the arrival time for driving directions and arrived on time. All 3 young men were polite, helpful and courteous. They were patient and careful with our belongings. The weather was not nice-it sleeted and rained off and on all day, but there was never a complaint, they just continued doing their job. They helped to make an extremely stressful and difficult situation much easier for me to deal with. I would highly recommend Mambo Movers to anyone who is thinking of moving. I am a Realtor and I will pass their name on to as many people as I can.

+ -1 moreRoss, Todd and Pierce were the enterprising young men who showed up at our doorstep. They called an hour before they arrived and were extremely polite and after a quick assessment they got to work right away. They took great care to handle all our stuff from 2 bedrooms 1 dining and a living room including very heavy armories and sleeper sofas and queen beds.there were close to 40 boxes as well. They even picked up boxes from nearby storage site. They reassembled everything at our new home and caused no damage. They were always courteous and friendly and they did not waste any time at all. A great experience.
